There is this saying of living big, high, free and die young.

In the first place, each of these drugs is enough to kill anyone, not to talk of combination of all. So I am skeptical.

What is obvious here is a cry for help. Those prescribing prayers have not learned that we have a country prayer has not helped in spite of the status of the most religious country in the world.

Police uncover Badoo shrine, arrest traditional ruler over killings
By Odita Sunday | 31 July 2017 | 4:48 pm

There alleged Badoo shrine

Following the gruesome murder of four family members at Ibeshe, Ikorodu on Sunday, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested the Baale of Ipakodo, a town on the outskirt of Ikorodu and the three others.

The command also uncovered a shrine in the area believed to be the domain of the dreaded Badoo cult group.

The operation which was carried out in the early hours of Monday was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, Imohinmi Edgal.

The police operatives also arrested the operator of the shrine, one Alhaji Alaka Abayomi. Other suspects arrested are Junior Christian and Owoyemi Bamidele.

A source said the Baale, Alhaji Tijani Awoyemi, was arrested for allowing his domain to be used as a den for ritual shrines.

According to the source, “We have arrested the owner of the shrines in the thick forest of Agboowa, Ikorodu. We have also arrested three others, including the operator of the shrines. They are the major suspects in yesterday’s incident.

“The obas in Ikorodu area should know that their exalted office has privileges and responsibilities. They have subjects within their domain. They should compel their subjects to about new people moving into their area. The activities of Badoo is an internal crime. No one would come from outside to wreck havoc in Ikorodu because the area has been cordoned off by the police.

“The traditional rulers would sit down and watch people being killed in their domain and they won’t say anything. They should discourage their subjects from building inside the bush and living there.”

Some police operatives accused the Oba of Imota of opposing police lofty plan of engaging local vigilante in the area.

“The Imota monarch is fond of attacking us and criticising us for using local vigilante and OPC to police that interior area and we are disappointed by this action.” The source said.

It was gathered that 5 graves were uncovered inside the shrine. Also sighted were baskets, broken eggs and other fetish items.

The command boss, Fatai Owoseni reiterated his earlier warning to Lagos residents against living in isolated and unsafe areas where they might be vulnerable to attacks by hoodlums and cultists.

The Police Public Relations Officer, in Lagos, Olarinde Famous-Cole, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) said in a statement that the warning became necessary in view of hoodlums who might take advantage of such isolated areas to attack innocent people.

“A murder incident was reported during the early hours of Sunday, July 30 where police operatives of the Lagos State Command responded to a distress call at Oke Ota, Ibeshe, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

“Mobilising to the scene, police operatives found it extremely difficult to locate the house which was situated in a thick forest where it is remotely impossible for anybody to identify a dwelling house in the area.

“Eventually arriving at the scene on foot, the house is just a room and parlour with one open window and no visible form of security.

“There, a family of five was attacked and three died on the spot while one died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

“The last member is alive and responding to treatment,” the police spokesperson said.

He urged community leaders to identify persons staying in isolated areas which are no longer safe to come and report to the police.

“This should be done in order to stop people from moving into an unsecured area without proper social structures.

“The command also wishes to inform members of the public to come forward with useful information to aid the police and not resort to jungle justice as the investigation is ongoing,” the command said.

Culture › Yoruba Origin Of Oba Bini & Da Lagosians by googi(op): 4:35pm On Jul 29, 2017
YORUBA ORIGIN OF OBA BINI & Da LAGOSIANS

It is too late for all kinds of novel origins of Lagos or Awori, the real owners of Lagos. It is sad and embarrassing that the Oba of Lagos did not know that he is a descendant of a father from Ilesha. Shame! Most historians know that Ashipa was the first Oba of Lagos as taught from old schools days. Ashipa title is still common throughout Yoruba and Bini land. The same is true of Ado as his son indicating special relationship between Yoruba and Bini origin of the OBA title.

In order to understand the controversies surrounding the origin of Oba of Bini, one has to understand that each time an Oba is crowned; he has to renew his palace lease from Ogiamien Ode. Ogiamien, the son of the soil leased his own land to Oba, the stranger. This treatment as an outsider made the children of Eweka crave acceptance in a strange land by a novel theory.

The real problem started because Eweka as Yoruba, became Oba only on a condition that he has to lease the land each time at coronation before ascending Bini throne. Ekaledera was used as novel theory to claim a relationship to an Ogiso father. The mischief-makers try to claim the father of Oranmiyan was the lost son of Ogiso in order to trivialize that rite of passage Ogiamen administered. If Oba were a son of Ekaledera he wouldn’t rent from Ogiamen. He no be we-we!

Yoruba artifacts are much older, Iwo Eleru dated far back to 10,000 B.C! Ile-Ife moved few times from the North of Bini before present location East of Bini: “according to Prof. Fela Sowande, Ile Ife is not the Ife to which Yoruba oral traditions refer. Also in the words of Professor Wande Abimbola, the seven sites of Ife mentioned by Ifa are Ife Oodaye, the first and possibly the original one, Ife Nleere, Ife Ooyelagbomoro, Ife Wara, Otu Ife, Ife Oore and Ife Oojo’.”

See Prof. Thurstan Shaw on radiocarbon dating. Carbon dating indicated Oba-Ogiso relationship at Ife burial ground went as far back as 560AD that is even before arrival of Oranmiyan in Bini. It is undisputed that Ogiso fell from grace after a brutal order killed a pregnant woman. The people revolted against him with votes of no confidence. The people of Ogodimiogo knew and asked Ile-Ife for Oba as a well-known respected prominent seat of wisdom not by chance.

Going by the parallel history of the Bible, Koran and what we know today of Africa as the cradle of man and civilization; Oduduwa was not created, born or wandered into Yoruba birth land in the 12th century. Oduduwa was not the Orunmila, Olodumare or Obatala. Some even claimed he took over from Obatala. If Obatala was sent as the god of creation, it does not make sense that Oduduwa who succeeded him (Obatala) was alive in the 12th century.

Novel theory of Bini fell apart because Oduduwa existed not only in Bini but also by Olukumi in and outside Nigeria including Ijaw that called him Adumu or Adimu. Every community including the Ijaw that knew Oduduwas as Adumu or Adimu knew Oduduwa as their progenitor existed Before Christ. The son of Oduduwa does not mean direct son; it could mean descendant, great-great grandfather or even creator. It was the last born of Oduduwa, Oranmiyan descendants that transformed Benin into an Empire. African progenitors are older than Jesus or Mohamed.

Jacob Egharevba, the highly respected historian and son of Edo wrote A Short History of Benin that is irrefutable in the academic community. Yet those without credentials or anthropological facts have selectively disputed him with their novel theories propagated by Edo e-warriors. His account of the history was the irrefutable theory among respected academics that are not even Yoruba themselves, such as another respected Prof. Peter Ekeh of State University of New York.

Quoting Jacob Egharevba: “When Evian was stricken by old age he nominated his eldest son, Ogiemwen as his successor, but the people refused him. They said he was not the Ogiso and they could not accept his son as his successor, because as he himself knew, it had been arranged to set up a republican form of government. This he was now selfishly trying to alter.

While this was still in dispute the people indignantly sent an ambassador to the Ooni Oduduwa, the great and wisest ruler of Ife, asking him to send one of his sons to be their ruler, for things were getting from bad to worse and the people saw that there was need for a capable ruler.”
Oba title and Bini (Ile Ibinu) never existed in Bini until the arrival of Oranmiyan that overthrew Ogiso. Since then, the head of Oba of Bini had always been buried in Ile-Ife until recently. These are facts that can never be denied within the academic communities. Indeed, the lingua franka in the palace of the Oba was and still in Yoruba names.

Professor Peter Ekeh an Urhobo quoted from another non-Yoruba scholar Okpewho: consider the appearances of the Ogisos in Benin and Urhobo folktales - In Isidore Okpewho's (1998) comprehensive and scholarly study of Benin folklore, there is a Benin folktale concerning the Ogiso, which ends as follows:

Ogiso goes back on his word. Whereupon heaven and earth threaten to convulse the nation, forcing the Ogiso to capitulate. [His rival] became the Oba, and the Ogiso became his sword bearer. (p. 67)

Nevertheless, the glory and power of Bini Empire cannot be contested because it lasted past many African Empires including Oyo that was destroyed by civil wars. Once Oredo, that is Bini the land of Edo came under Oba, they became venturous outside, unlike Ogiso that was oppressive inside. It was the reason the Urhobo and others deserted Ogomigodo. Bini power was felt as far East as Onitsha where Oba of Bini and his Yoruba descendants are still present until today with their Yoruba dialect. Actually, Zik embraced his Bini descendants.

The present Oba of Bini made the relationship clear that Oranmiyan is the First Oba Bini. Ogiso children cannot be easily won over. They know the difference between the invader (actually the invitee Oba from the land of wisdom they knew and respected) they lease the land to; and the son of the soil as the owner of their land! There was one lost son of Oba Bini who founded the Olukumi. He established in Asaba and Onitsha where they still speak, bear Yoruba, Edo and Igbo names. Those looking for Ekalederah would find his kin and descendants there, not in Ile-Ife.

The names and gods served by Benin and other Yoruba cousins revealed a relationship one should be proud of not to cause disenchantments. There is no Ogun River near Bini that they worship like the Yoruba. They interpreted EWEKA as Yoruba’s Owo Mi Ka and are yet to dispute the reason they differed to the wisdom of Ile-Ife on choice of ruler, burying their Oba and Ogiso symbols in the Holy Land of Yoruba. Yet, e-warriors claim Yoruba language is their broken Edo!

It is not in doubt that Yoruba Oba Benin had his emissaries sneaked into Lagos. The battle was fought to a standstill only to compromise on Ashipa as the First King. Ogunfunminire was the father of Omo-Onile: Olumegbon, Aromire, Oloto, Oluwa, Oniru, Onisiwo, Onitoolo, Elegushi, Ojora and Onikoyi. Nobody disputes Omo-Onile as the children of Awori Ogunfuminire that had established in Isheri while his children spread beyond into the Island. Aromire own Lagos Island.

Oba of Bini emissaries were not the first or the last Aromire and his brothers had to fight off their land. There were Ijebu, Egba, British, Portuguese, Arabs etc. that were attracted because of Lagos proximity to the Ocean for all types of trade. Indeed, it was not the first time Yoruba fought within themselves or even disowned one another. You must have read about Awujale of Ijebu Ode denying Oduduwa was his father or even being Yoruba. He claimed Waddai.

However, most Yoruba had similar claim. The difference with Oba of Bini’s emissaries sneaking into Lagos and fighting to a standstill while other Yoruba did not get involve was the fact that Bini itself had Yoruba Oba from 12th century and not Ogiso. They sneaked in temporarily as visitors, camped at Iddo unaware. The story could have been different if they came as warriors.

Do we really have to prove over and over again, the relationship between Nigerians when each of the 250 ethnics want suzerainty and autonomy as separate people dividing themselves into clans and hamlets of prehistoric days? Compare that to the call for separations into Arewa, Igbo and Yoruba nations when they claim One NORTH ONE PEOPLE despite variety of ethnic groups. Better still, they are ready to unite the whole South against North. Maybe Igbo nation and Yoruba nation dividing the south into two!

Oh, they have forgotten that there are more minorities in the North and South than just the three behemoths that want to go their separate ways. We have not been able to separate Awori and Egun in Dahomey from Nigeria yet. Or separate Igbo and Hausa cousins that still cross at will from Cameroon. Well, just leave minorities out of all your nations.

There was a great deal of noise about how Lagos was going to lose its glory after the capital moved to Abuja. It is the exact opposite; people cannot get enough of Lagos. Every day, people troop into Lagos without relief. After establishing themselves with the generosity of Lagosians, each ethnic group starts claiming ownership of Lagos. Where else? Lagosians must be proud because it shows nothing can change the attractive culture of the indigenous people of Lagos.

Nothing can change the Yoruba origin of Lagos and Bini, even when Nigeria breaks into pieces!

E-warriors kotikwu jor. Just park make I see road.

I am surprised that the son of the king that escape being killed was not Ekadelerha, the one that escape to become fake invented Oduduwa.

I just wonder how many Oduduwa escaped from Benin. Ile ibinu conquered by Oranmiyan when some disgruntled elements went against his invitation.

The lies of Benin novel history are coming apart everyday.

Sir,

I think you are not up to date on China like Mr. Trump. China has now strengthened their currency by limiting flow or dwindling their reserve. They introduced measures Nigeria Central Bank has been castigated for. They introduced reporting, school fees curb, medical trips scrutinized, foreign loans examined for payments etc. http://www.scmp.com/news/china/economy/article/2076727/china-forex-reserve-unexpectedly-rises-us3-trillion-end-february

The point here is that they can weaken their currency and strengthened it as they wish.

MagicBishop:
Stop comparing apples to oranges.

China is the world's leading manufacturer and in order to prevent inflation on their exports due to a strong Yuan, the Chinese artificially devalued their currency to maintain an edge in the international export market.

In your case you produce nothing and depend on imports for everything.

Devaluation helps to prevent a scenario where your limited forex gets exhausted funding imports.

With all respect, those theories about 1. raw materials and finished products while reasonable are no longer valid. It is all politics.

All countries sell raw materials except Japan with none or little. All you have to remember is the status of famine in China.

First and foremost, they have to accept you as member of the trading clubs. China got in to spite Russia. China still dump inferior and fake raw materials at reasonable exchange rate to them. They are waking up. Too late China made it already.

The second point is finished products. Even if we have finished products, we have no market locally and in foreign countries. Obama tried but most of our product were rejected in rich country clubs. Even Africans would rather trade with overseas countries than with one another. Even cassava bread we cannot sell locally.

As for finished products, take gold for example. We've had finished gold designers for centuries but which market accept our finished gold apart from ancient times?

Note that gold standard used to determine how strong your currencies are. When they could not pay back for all the gold in the Bank of England of those days, they started issuing promissory notes WHILE THE COUNTRY THEY NAMED GOLD COAST were issued printed papers for their gold.

So they ditch the gold standard and now depend on printed papers at any exchange rate they desire.

If I may respectfully ask, which finished products were Nigeria exporting in the 60s to 80s when naira commanded one and a half US dollar?

Which finished product was Zimbabwe exporting before their money became useless.

It is all political, no rationale, gold standard or printed papers can explain it.

But if you want to hear the truth, ask a mad man. As I wrote somewhere else, when Trump was asked what happens to USA as the biggest debtor in the world if creditors cashed in.

He told them the truth. Print more US papers! There are more printed $100.00 US bills outside USA than inside.

So Madams and Sirs, stop trying to give rationale from what you learn in London School of Economics.

BTW, Innoson is looking for market. Can anyone open Rich countries Club to Innosson?

Actually the op is right.

We can blame our politicians all we want. It is like the slaves blaming house nagas and massa that are themselves Africans for their sorry state getting more whipped from them than from the slave owners.

You have been asked many times over. What is the economic basis for the fall of the naira? Better still, what is the gold standard basis for the fall of Zimbabwe dollars.

You will find African economists falling over themselves explaining why according to the theories of their slave masters.

When the gold standard could not work for those that named a country Gold Coast, they ditched it and start printing papers. Today there are more $100.00 bills outside USA than inside.

Africans say if you want to hear true word, ask a mad man. When Trump was told US is the biggest world debtor and what would he do is the world cash their credits.

The mad man gave the real truth out. Just print more dollars.

It does not mean that our politicians are not bastards. How many times have you shown them the calabash or Occupy both Houses?

Oh, they just have to throw you the bones and ethnic fight would start while the bastards would laugh to the treasury.

This is an aberration of a culture that teaches hard work and survival. No true Igbo culture teaches survival by any means necessary.

What you claim there is the corruption of African culture. Our fathers fought not to get rich but to be free - Independence.

The following generation after been spoon-fed with golden toe in their mouth, embark on corruption.

What you stated there is where many found themselves born out of corruption. Igbo would call you efulefu.

If Nigerians could devote the same energy they devote to what you stated there, we would be as good as those that fought for independence, if not better.

When the atmosphere stinks to high heavens, it gives birth to what you stated.

As for bride price, it's an African thing. We all
do it but not as pronounced and abused as in some Igbo culture. As someone stated, some families return most of the money claiming their daughter is not for sale.

Let us face it, corruption has created so much poverty and greed many Nigerians are ready to exploit anything.

I must confess that even me was put off by exorbitant bride price called dowry. But folks, ladies will make you pay now or later.

It is true that Pa Sir Ojukwu was one of the first millionaire but not the only one in Lagos.

There were Otunba Payne, Docemu a trader and importer on Docemu Streeet, Ajao was very popular as rags to riches from the West and the biggest landlord.

Pa Ojukwu was celebrated as Ajao that came to Lagos with nothing but certainly not the first Millionaire at the level of Da Rocha that was well before him.

There was also Binney that donated a whole zoo to Lagos for public viewing. He came from Ghana or Togo. Those old enough may remember Binney Center in Yaba then.

Pa Ojukwu was first among Igbo in Lagos but some millionaires existed in Lagos before him.

Don't forget Dantata in the North. He had so much money, people said he had money machine.

BIAFRAN SECESSION--NIGERIAN REPLIES
The Mail
NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED August 9, 1968
134

To the Editors of the Summer News

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. U Thant, is reported to have said, in connection with Vietnam, that in war, the first casuality is truth. The Nigerian civil war is today another painful reminder of this phenomenon. Claims of a special Ibo Jewishness and Catholic Christianity vis a vis other Nigerian groups, and counter-claims of an Ibo plot to dominate others, have cluttered the scene.

However, it is the former view that dominates the press. Instant international theoreticians of ethnic profiles see in the Ibo a harmonious fusion of the judaic and christian traditions. If indeed this were a relevent category for the discussion of the Nigerian civil war, it would truly represent a tremendous cultural achievement for an African society, in view of the bloody antagonisms which have characterized these two traditions for much of Western history. Unfortunately, the category is irrelevent. Concocted as it was out of political expediency, this image now makes it difficult for the foreign observer to retrieve the objective sequence of events which led to the civil war.

In spite of this difficulty some current distortions have to be exposed because of their immediate implications for the lives of many innocent people. The Harvard Summer News has in its coverage of the crisis, not been free of these distortions.

In one of his contributions, your reporter wrote, inter alia, that Biafrans are being "starved out by the Nigerians". Having embraced the theme of Ibo jewishness, Biafra sympathizers complete the plot by assigning to Nigerians the role of the monster Hitler. Such baseless attribution of sadism to Nigerians can come only from a dangerously naive mind or a totally malicious one.

No African can be happy at the press reports of mounting starvation in secessionist Biafra. The fact of secession and the consequent human casualities represent a permanent tragedy for Africa. Newspaper advertisements carrying hungry African babies whose survival depends largely on the outcome of a march-of-dimes-type crusade are a humiliating reminder of Fanon's sad conclusion that black people of our generation are indeed the wretched of the earth. Our fellow Africans who, for various reasons now identify with secessionist Biafra, feel this deep sense of shame also.

Your reporter's assertion also does not accord with the facts concerning the obstacles to the current "food for Biafra" projects. The Vatican, the International Red Cross, the London Times, the New York Times (to mention only a few) have consistently stated that if the relief efforts are to have any impact on Biafran starvation, food must be transported by land from the rest of Nigeria, because of the inadequacy of airport facilities in what remains of Biafra. The Nigerian Government would surely be responsible for Biafran starvation if she refused to permit the transportation of the badly needed food. Fortunately this is not the case. The same international agencies have affirmed the readiness of the Nigerian Government to open up land corridors to allow the food to reach Biafra. These same international agencies further state that the major obstacle at the moment is the refusal of Biafran authorities to accept this offer on the morally dubious ground that Biafra's political illegitimacy would be thus compounded.

In short, what is happening, according to a recent editorial in the London Times, is that the Biafran regime is playing politics with the lives of innocent children. They seem to be more interested in the potential political capital which our natural sympathies for suffering children may produce, rather than in the lives of the children themselves.

Thus the primary responsibility for the present mass starvation in Biafra rests with the secessionist leaders. They cannot be meaningfully excused from any ethical exercise we may engage in on the Nigerian war. At the very least Biafran leaders are guilty of gross deceit. Only a few months ago they were proudly announcing to the world that the Biafran economy was running efficiently in spite of the war. At the time, these leaders considered it politically expedient to "prove" the viability of secessionist Biafra outside of a Nigerian federation. Nigerian reports of mass hunger were rejected out of hand, by pro-Biafrans, as propaganda attempts to lower the morale of those trapped in the secessionist kingdom. Now, however, the sordid truth of colossal human suffering is out. Biafra is not a viable dream without the oil rich territories of five million minorities coerced into the new citizenship.

Of course, serious students of African politics do not find this callous concealment of the truth surprising. They know that the majority of the Biafran leaders currently parading the world as tribal heroes with synthetic slogans of autochthonous virtues are the same politicians who, in concert with other members of the old Nigerian political class, ruthlessly exploited the Nigerian masses without regard to ethnicity only a few years ago. These tribal patriarchs of today were the nationally convicted rogues of yesterday. When the Nigerian masses were revolting against their exploitation in pre-coup Nigeria, the foreign minister, an Ibo, was busy singing the glories of Nigeria at the U.N. The Head of State who supervised the political corruption of pre-coup Nigeria is now a Biafran ambassador at large. It is significant that it is only in Biafra that these corrupt politicians have not been permanently thrown out of office.

These men cheated the Nigerian masses before in the name of free enterprise and unregulated accumulation of private wealth. Today, as they play the cocktail circuit at the seats of political reaction in Portugal, Spain and South Africa, they are once again concealing their particularistic class interests behind the tribal mask. It is not they who are dying; it is not they who are starving; it is their captive Biafran subjects.

Therefore, if our concern for the starving children is to go beyond mere liberal reflexes, we must have the courage to denounce the the political brigandage of the secessionist elite. If our liberalism is to have a sure ethical footing in the Nigerian crisis, we must not allow our enthusiasm to spill over into a justification of secession.

Only pseudo liberals and enemies of Africa can seriously advocate organized trips into Biafra with the avowed purpose of forcing American intervention in favour of secession. For quite apart from the risk of creating another Vietnam, such action can only condemn Africa to permanent underdevelopment. An Africa based on tribal units has no chance. Only our enemies can knowingly encourage African fragmentation while they themselves enjoy the fruits of unity in their own countries.

You guys are not fair to this guy.

It takes a kidnapper to realize that children of sailors and prostitutes are doing fine in Nigerian entertainment industry, beauty contests, politics and business. One almost became the Governor of Lagos State because she married one of us.

Many ladies even bleach to look like them. The guy must be treated accordingly as a kidnapper not because he is a bastard.
