Part 2:

Our life in Canada thus began. In the first one week, we did quite a lot. Opened bank accounts, got phone lines, spoke with employment advisors, visited my registered midwife and other things here and there. We even attended service at the church my midwife invited us to. The pastor and everyone we met were so accommodating. They prayed for us and welcomed us to Canada.
The second week saw us begin our house search. This part of my landing gist will require its own section because it is really a story for another day. Suffice it to say that it is a story worth telling. It ended well though but the story behind it nkor? As I said, story for another day. Anyway, we had the house thing finally sorted out, so we went ahead and registered my son in the Catholic school nearby, registered for our health cards and did some other things that depended on us getting a permanent address. Job search is underway for my hubby. I am putting a hold on that one for now. I will work the work sometime later. We are just past our third week here and while we get lonely sometimes, we are adjusting nicely. The cold is crazy, but you will be fine. Just dress appropriately and don’t stay outside for extended periods of time. I am surprised at the way my son enjoys the cold even when it seems that it would freeze our blood when we are outside.

Congrats @Newmum.. I honestly didnt want the gist to end while reading. All the best

Hi Guys, I still need help with getting driving records insurance from Nigeria. If you have any contact or are able to help, I will really appreciate it as my present driving insurance cost is crazy and I was told to get a letter from an Insurance company from Nigeria about my driving records and that I had no at-fault claims

I know someone you can speak to if you haven't gotten one.

Many thanks for your swift response. Knowing how to submit these documents is where the confusion lies. Do I submit through the Web form? Also how do I pay the RPRF because as explained earlier my profile has not been updated.

So normally,
1. You should get a request letter in your account and in it ,you would see the link for the 150$$ payment and all the requirements to add a new born.same as you listed in your first post aside 4 passport photographs.

2. Under submitted documents, you should now have a new placeholder with subject..KITS APPLICATION FORM..there,is where you merge all the requested PDFs..

3..Then your review of additional documents should be showing that you need to provide additional documents.

Or could it be that Ghana handles it differently cos all am sharing is based on Ottawa's VO experience.
Ottawa didn't request 4 passport photographs.

If you don't have all these, you might need to raise another CSE or another email and also stating your concerns cos I remember we never raised CSE, we just mailed them and promptly within 24hrs they responded with ADR popping up in the account.Even after ADR submission, we mailed again to inform them we have submitted with URGENT as part of mail subject and within few days it moved to..Review of medical results.About 5 days after, medical was passed and additonal documents review changed to N/A also a couple of days after medical was passed.Dont forget you also have to do medicals for the newborn and also merge that print out from hospital with other PDFs.

Good evening everyone. Please I need people to talk to me. While I'm excited at a fresh start in Canada and a chance for a better life for my son, my heart is heavy.
I am wondering if Nigeria will ever be sane enough to return to in my lifetime. I am wondering what will become of my children with respect to our ethics, morals, tradition and culture. How do i ensure my children remain "Nigerians"?
Those of you who have stayed in canada for years do you long for your own country?

You need to teach the child in the way of the Lord wherever you find yourself.2. Pass down those things you mentioned by mentoring to be done by yourself and your spouse..Naija as a country doesn't have those things in good abundance anymore,so why worry??

Hi Fam, I’ve been away for few days now as we welcomed our baby girl. Trying to catchup with the thread now.

Please can anyone who has gone through the process of adding their new born post AOR walk me through the process. I have raised a CSE to notify CIC about the new addition to the family by contacting AVO directly and the response I got has left me with many questions than answer. Please see below

Hello,

In response to your below email, please provide the following documents in order to add your child to your application:

• An updated Generic Application Form for Canada (IMM 0008)
• An updated Additional Family Information form (IMM5406) bearing original signatures from you and your spouse.
• Copy of your child’s birth certificate
• Copy of your child’s valid passport
• Payment of the Application for Permanent Residence Fee for your new dependent if he is accompanying. For current fees, please consult: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/fees/index.asp
• 4 recent photographs of your child

Regards,

Migration Program | Programme de migration (RKB)
High Commission of Canada | Haut commissariat du Canada
MITNET 313-3404
P.O. Box 1639
42 Independence Ave., Accra, Ghana

How do I submit these documents? Raise another CSE for them or submit the hard copies? (Note the request for 4 recent passport photographs).

My profile is yet to be updated with any ADR requests.

No...hard copies bawo..
All documents submitted should be pdf as you did before.Get the forms filled, receipt of the 150$$,Baby's BC, baby's passport info page, scan and merge all the pdfs, then submit.Your spouse must complete her own IM5406 for her own immediate family differently.IM008 to be filled only by the PA.

The 4 passports for your baby is the only strange one but I want to believe it's same process, scan and convert to Pdf and merge also with others..if it's not so,they will send ADR with explanation on how it should be done.

BTW..Congrats on your new born.

Not necessarily. My former colleague in Nigeria who came to Canada 3 years before i did is a manager at one of BC's government agencies, and he has only being in Canada for 5 years. Though he has about 15 years of experience in Nigeria and guess what, they refused to make him even a supervisor or team lead in Nigeria because of "man know man" syndrome. Well, the guy earns about $109,000 a year now compared to the 435,000 naira he earned in Nigeria.

That's about 9k+ gross earnings monthly...like 2.5mill If you convert to naira although doesn't directly work that way cos his 3 months rent equivalent in Canada$$ to naira would be a year's rent in Naija but at least there is a massive progress in his life.

dont know how to compose this but just my opinion
FOR COUPLES GOING WITH CHILD(REN), please and please try to plan your settling down in canada, e.g the family should do a soft landing, then the wife and the child(ren) could come back to Nigeria to continue working, for like a year plus, maximum a year plus . the husband sh(c)ould go and hustle, familiarize for the family lol. why this? settling down with children can be very daunting, due to high cost of daycare, challenges of renting an apartment, cost of transportation e.t.c. but with one person it is less costly, when the husband is settled fairly, then the family would come join (i have factored in cost of flying). but if the family stays together in CA, proof of funds would be tampered with heavily and might set some folks into panic mode. because one MIGHT not get a dream job immediately. just my two cents. I STAND TO BE CORRECTED

Wrong mentality IMO...You gotta believe and plan properly. You dived too much into the negative sides and totally turned blind eye to the positive side and what good luck can offer.what happened to both getting good/fair enough jobs within a short time frame??
Also,no sensible person would think it's a fashion walkway stroll especially for fams at first but at times you gotta do what you gotta do.

I was at this location and what I was told was very unbelievable, in short to cargo a load of 50kg it will cost about NGN200,000. I mean thats ridiculous, this is even more than what you'd pay if you were transferring the load as an extra luggage with the airline right ?

That's ridiculous....

I will go for option 2 if I were you...442 isn't a bad score, atleast for this year.. He may even score higher than 6666, thus giving you higher points....He can register for Dec 1 IELTS.

If option two fails, that's the only time I will consider option 1.. Spouse sponsorship isn't that straightforward, it's not just about landing and sponsoring him.. you have to meet certain criteria.. This was discussed in the last few pages of part 5..

Yeah, you can't add him post AOR because you were married before ITA..

I wish you the best.

Yeah this...100 @Divamum

you have to meet certain criteria -- If you are certain of getting a well paying job sharpish + file good enough tax returns and co...then you can look at option 1(but its not advice-able)

IT'S PPR Guys.

Below is our timeline.

Family of 5
CSR - 456
ITA - June 25
AOR - Sept 12
MEP/BIL - Oct 9
Biometrics Done - Oct 16
PPR - Nove 9

I don't know where to start but I will thank God first for today. All praise belong to him.
I will thank all the guys here especially those who make out time to share information on the platform. I learnt a lot here. I was encouraged by other people's struggles and stories. I also got the link that helped with our major breakthrough in the journey here. I will not say am a silent reader but when I applied to be an elder Newmum0615, Macstan, Tojued and co did not consider me. How can Newmum0615 who is my junior in Engineering faculty in UNIZIK be an elder and I will not be an elder....lol. Thanks a lot guys. The company I enjoyed here throughout the journey has been superb.

Around April last year when we thought of this journey, I was not sure we will get enough points to get ITA so we wanted to go through the study route. It was at that point that I joined Nairaland study group. I convinced my wife to take IELTS which she did and did well and we applied to a school in Nova Scotia and got admission but later my brother who lives in Canada got his PR and the prospect of getting extra 15 points shifted our attention to EE again. We took IELTS (General) together and my wife cleared the thing. She has B.A in English sha. Along the line I also confirmed from the contact I got in NTI Kaduna that people have successfully validated their PGDE with WES and that finally changed the story.

For POF we used a joint account. We also had my PFA account statement but to avoid stories that touch the heart, the money we had in the joint account covered the basic POF needed. The PFA account was just added as extra.

The major challenge we had was hussle for 2 or more certificates. That is where I will always be grateful to Nairaland. I came here and asked if anybody had evaluated the PGDE from NTI. The first time nobody responded but when I asked again, a good friend here gave me a contact tin NTI, Kaduna. Prior to that, we went to their office in the city we live and applied for the transcript but the man there did not look like somebody that knows what he is doing. We applied in December, 2017 and till about February, 2018 the request had not been sent and there was no guarantee it will be pushed. This necessitated my question here for clue which finally paid off.

For those that are still in the journey, my advise is that you should persevere. We had our moments of doubt. We spent money to get things done but at the end success makes you forget what you went through.

ALWAYS FOCUS ON THE GOAL. FORGET ALL DISTRACTIONS AND DON'T BE DISCOURAGED.

Congrats...Wishing you greatness.

Below is my timeline
Decision to travel August 2017.
Family of 5
Visa office: initially London, moved to kyiv in August.
IELTS: September 2017.
My IELTS was written once and was perfect 9,8,8,8.
Spouse IELTS 7.5,7.5,7,7
ECA: Masters Nov 2017
Entered the pool Dec.
ITA January
AOR January 17th 2018
Medical Passed Feb 11th 2018
IP1 Feb 12th 2018
IP2 Feb 27th 2018
Then silence. Not even a single ADR.
Ordered 1st GCMS notes April 2018 everything looked perfect.
Then complete silence.
Ordered 2nd GCMS notes July 2018, this never arrived
Wrote Raplh who confirmed Eligibility and Security not yet started.
More silence, not even a ghost update
October 3rd 2018 ordered 3rd set of GCMS notes. Arrived Nov. 1st. Still same as April notes. My file had not been touched since March 2018. Eligibility and Security not yet started.
Wrote a 3rd mail to Ralph on Nov 4th who was gracious enough to respond (Ralph responds only once). He confirmed that my eligibility and security was not yet started and my application cannot be expedited.
Nov 8th, like a dream ! my PPR!

Checked email and profile this morning and saw nothing.

By 2pm during my lunch break, I saw a mail notification, I wanted to ignore but decided to check.

I saw a mail from donotreply@cic.gc.ca that I have an update on my profile. I was excited, that finally I am getting a ghost update / adr.

I logged into my cic acct and saw my profile was updated. I was so excited, thinking it was just a ghost update and that finally my file was receiving attention. I wanted to log out but I felt the nudge to proceed and click on view complete application which I did.

Nothing seemed to have changed, my background check was still in process, I was about to log out again, when I felt that urge to scroll further down to the mail section.

I saw I had a new mail, titled request letter. I already concluded that it was an ADR for fresh bank statement. Love and behold, it was the almighty PPR.

I wasn't expecting it to come without an ADR for updated POF since my application had been pending for almost 10months. I lost appetite immediately, and was was just screaming. I couldn't share the news with my colleagues, so I just lied to them that my husband got a new job!.

I am immensely grateful to God Almighty who did not put me to shame. Delay is not denial. Though it tarries, it must surely come.

Thank you all for all the love and support.

Off to take my pictures and submit tomorrow.

This year has been so challenging. hubby and I lost our jobs, all our money tied at POF, we were feeding from Hand to mouth and struggled to pay school fees. Infact this September, we had to change their schools to a very cheap school.

God bless you all.

Hallelujah

Congratulations to wizean and everyone who clinched the most coveted PPR and ITA. Our testimonies will keep flowing. Please my nairaland seniors I have a question, for the Application fee and RPRF. Which one is recommended paying the both together or paying the application fee and waiting for RPRF request?

Before now(pre-biometrics),getting a request to pay RPRF was a good indication of progress. However, current trend shows it has no bearing anymore,so if I were you, I would pay all to avoid ADR stress.(That ADR might even slow you down). If your documents are fine, when the time is right, you will get PPR.

My take....
