The last time I checked, UK have better road, good hospitals and council houses for low income earners.

Is the call to join the Nigerian Armed Forces meant to be a call for citizens to suffer hunger and endure unnecessary hardship, rather than to serve and also enjoy the benefits of the nation they are risking their lives to protect?

Military service demands discipline, sacrifice and courage. But sacrifice should not mean denying our soldiers basic welfare, especially adequate and nutritious food.

I recently came across the kind of meals provided to newly enlisted personnel in the United States military. I am not suggesting that Nigerian soldiers must eat the same dishes, because our culture, food and circumstances are different. My concern is the quality, quantity and nutritional standard of what our own recruits and soldiers are expected to eat, sometimes three times a day.

The Nigerian Army itself states that its catering system has a responsibility to provide trainees and soldiers with food of the right quality and quantity, at appropriate times.

Furthermore, the Nigerian Army's current recruitment information lists good welfare, medical care, regular pay and allowances among the benefits of service.

These men and women are not ordinary workers. They are citizens who have chosen to put their lives on the line for Nigeria. The nation therefore has a responsibility to ensure that their basic welfare reflects the importance of the service they provide. When a serviceman dies, there family are paid over $300,000 (#405,000,000).

As a Nigerian, I am honestly ashamed that we can ask young people to make the ultimate sacrifice for the country while there are serious concerns about something as fundamental as feeding them properly.

We should demand accountability, but we should also demand dignity for those who defend the nation.

A soldier can be disciplined without being neglected.
A soldier can endure hardship without being denied basic nutrition.
Patriotism should be honoured with responsibility from both sides—the soldier serves the nation, and the nation must care for its soldiers.

The government need to stop all these harassment people go through in Lagos and other states.

1. It takes enormous time, money, and personal risk to uncover hidden facts. VDM investigates and exposes alleged oppression and corruption, but he is not a judge with the power to prosecute anyone.

2. What we truly need are police officers, investigators, prosecutors, and judges with integrity who are willing to continue from where VDM's investigations end and ensure that justice is served.

4. Imagine if we had five Senior Advocates of Nigeria, ten Commissioners of Police, and ten judges who were committed to truth, justice, and accountability. If they carried investigations through to their legal conclusion, I believe Nigeria would experience meaningful change.

The fight against corruption and oppression should not depend on one individual. It requires strong institutions and principled people who are willing to do their jobs without fear or favour.
