Guys, I'm thinking, since I'm interested in the RN5Ch because of the camera specs, why not just fash it and pick up a way cheaper and available R5+ 32gb along with a MN3 that has great camera specs (at least as per DXOMk). One for daily hustle the other for shooting... Surely RN5Ch camera upon all can't beat flagship MN3 camera. I no send Face Recognition. Wetin una tink?
Kuku buy one phone and one DSLR wink.

The mid-range doesn't.. Cant speak for the flagship though.
But, I think Redmi note 4x supports it, also other mid range models.

Well, just saw you used China Small Packet Plus for shipping, it's untrackable, just wait for item to come, or if buyer's protection runs out you can open dispute.

Please can someone in the house please help a layman out here? Thanks in anticipation
Chinese version comes with China rom, Global rom can be Chinese version that has been flashed with Global rom. The Chinese version lack a 4G band ( I think band 20) available in the Global version. Both Chinese and Global versions work fine here with our network providers, both don't support Glo 4G (band 28). Chinese version doesn't mean phone's language is set to Chinese, it's English too, but some apps ( useless apps to you) are in Chinese, and Google playstore and other Google services don't come preinstalled, you can install them yourself in a matter of minutes. If you are concerned about the band 20 (this is one of the 4G bands MTN uses; I think SMILE 4G also uses this), then get the Global version.

some produces exceptional picture quality but features can not be compared that of back camera, things like hdr n co may not be that effective as it will on the back camera
Exactly, and environment must be well lit to get the 'exceptional quality', a 5 mp 2010 back camera can even do better in more tricky environments.

Xiaomi should try to make HDR be on automatic settings like Tecno has done.
If it's off by default, majority of users would never think to turn it at the point of taking a picture outdoors coz HDR takes a long time to process a photo and people aren't that patient.
HDR is automatic in some Xiaomi phones like Mi Max and Mi Max 2, even at that, it's best to use such settings manually because' computers are still dummies '. Have never seen a professional photographer use automatic settings for similar reason.

A more objective comparison is the front and back camera of the same CX, both are 16MP but different aperture. More importantly, Back cam is by Sony IMX298(yes, same one the Mi 5 uses) and front cam is probably a proprietary sensor.
Front cameras are gimmicks, no matter the sensor used, they are way limited, you can do a check on that.

In my experience sha, dating back from Redmi 2 to awaiting RN5 and MN3, yes in low light the images suck (but this applies to most phone cameras across board too) but in good light and some tweaks in manual mode, you'll be surprised with the good outputs that even a low grade phone camera can generate.
A lot of times, the complainants don't even familiarize with the workings of the camera but rather remain in auto/default settings and sum up that the camera sucks. I've seen folks bitching that they've been scammed after buying expensive DSLRs and Mirroless saying that output was poor without bothering to know that you can't get the best out of cameras without working with the settings. I mean, that's why they were put there in the first place. Anyway, wetin I sabi ..?
Very correct, I wonder if many persons here have made use of or even know when to use HDR in their cameras. The HDR of the Redmi note 4x is really good in outdoors, some persons still doubt I snapped some pics with a phone.
This was taken on a very hot Saturday, the Sun was all out, normally your camera should either expose the building properly and over expose/blow out the sky or get the right exposure of the sky while leaving the building all dark, but HDR the balance, both sky and building properly exposed.

I wonder how them flagships go sell wen dem put the best cameras on midrange,as person don talk befor, shebi xiaomi na charityorg.com na grin
True, knowing that Xiaomi ensures both lowest and highest ranked phones enjoy exactly the same software, if camera difference is not much, then flashships will be no brainers.

On this camera tory, in politicians voice, I will say the eyes have it.

Detail is good but if the image is not good to the human eyes, people will always complain and you can't blame them.

I believe this camera wars will stop when xiaomi do the needful. Fix the camera mess! They excel in every other area (specs, battery, etc) but the camera......hmmmmm. Good today, poor tomorrow. Excellent under this condition, below standard in other situations.
Yeah Xiaomi is not the best when it comes to camera in the world, but which Xiaomi devices are you referring to?

yesss... what I thought, most people do so too...the phone companies also make us believe so
Its our responsibility to know so manufacturers won't get the best of us, if we knew this earlier, am sure the megapixel war wouldn't have started, we would have been enjoying better camera qualities in general with lesser mega pixels, but since we thought megapixel means better pics, they used cheaper / weaker camera sensors with higher megapixels, and we paid more for less. Also there is currently the 'ram' race, many of us also think that higher ram translates to better faster speed and better multitasking, hence they pay a premium price for weak 4/6 gig ram devices that can't even stand good 3 gig ram devices, smh.

How did I imply that megapixels alone translate to better image quality/results?

Wow... Just wow.

Meaning Xiaomi are not true to their words then with respect to its 16MP front camera.

Okayy
This is really funny oooo, they are very correct jare, check the size of the pictures they are usually over 5mb, that's what Megapixel is mostly for grin. Megapixel hunters, take note.

If you want to get a good camera, check Google, you'll understand. Megapixel should be almost the last thing you should look out for.

of course it's an entry level device, but when compared with the camera of the likes of Tecno CM and Infinix Hot 4 /Note 4, how does it fare?

p. s: my only opinion of the phone is from online reviews, not a first hand experience. However, I feel it shouldn't be below par with the other devices mentioned above, even though they have lesser megapixels

cc ugonna1054
The Camon CM and Infinix hot 4 have better cameras. You can't get everything for such small amount you are paying. If you are really serious about camera, I don't think the above mentioned phones should even be in your list. Why are you still talking of megapixel count? Those are not what guarantees good pics, or you expect the Redmi note 5a a low end device with 16mp to out perform the Redmi note 4x , a mid range phone with 13mp? A low end 2018 octacore processor is still no match for a 2015 upper mid range quad core processor. Let me make it clear to you, my Redmi note 4x 5mp front facing camera is superior to the 20mp of the Redmi note 5a, and even the 8mp on the Infinix note 4.
