You won't understand, read about the war-on-drugs - that's the most racist policy ever...

Someone needs to change it because the law itself allows the disproportionate incarceration of black men...

And Blackman should also leave drugs alone and get real jobs.

BTW dead beat parents are costing tax payers 53million Dollars already. The higher % of these people are blacks and most are in jail. This is where I support Romney, eradicate food stamps from people who don't truly need it.

She is begging me to marry her i feel for her but i have my doubts. who thinks I am crazy?

shadrach77: my two cents - when a lady says "let's just be friends" it's one of three things; (a) she is not interested and doesn't want to hurt you by saying 'no' so she is trying to let you off by being diplomatic (b) she needs you around her to act as a shield to ward off other guys (c)she needs you around her to act as a bait in attracting another suitor which she is eyeing - now in the last two scenarios, she is indirectly using you. Whenever i find myself in such situation, i'll just ignore her "friendship" and seek greener pasture elsewhere cheesy cheesy cheesy wink smiley smiley

africanrapper: Having a similar challenge too.

She's smashing hot. Her office is the next office from mine. Initially, she showed signs of wanting me to ‘toast’ her. Just this week, I did. To my utter shock, she’s now singing a different tune: “Uche, I want to be alone. I don’t want a boyfriend”. We should just be friends…blab la bla.
Now, I’m like WTF? Why did you show all those signs of wanting me to do toast you? Why the mixed signals?
Meanwhile, I’m dying to date this chic, ‘cos I think she has bright prospects.

What do i do?

Bc men hardly understand differences between friendship gestures and that of a relationship. A lady can just be friends with you and yet don't want to date you but that una yeye hormones will always translate female relations as wanting to date you especially if you are helplessly attracted to her.

I have so many male friends and I don't think any of them hasn't asked me out. They aren't bad people but friendship should be what it is. Love ruins things.

My question here is, should we go on with the AS and AS marriages and ignore the fact that there is about 25% risk of giving birth to a sickle cell child because abali1 (no offence please) is living a normal life or we should make use of the advantage we have (advancement in technology) and prevent it

Please in the name of everything and anything you believe in, DON'T go into "marriage" with an AS person if you are AS. Even with the advanced technology, how many fetuses would u end up aborting for your own selfish reasons or even end up bringing a child into this world to suffer? What if u don't ever conceive an AA or AS? So you and ur partner will end up aborting all them(SS) babies without a child to call ur own? Ah, its just too much. Let the person go atleast that will get rid of this painful disease.

The idea of "married"couples going into marriage with the idea of aborting fetuses just to please their own desires is just wrong. The sacrificial lamb is that innocent child. What's love compared to life? A beg no do am.

My heart is already broken reading though peoples experiences here, if only their parents had proper information and awareness. It could have been anyone of us, our parents didn't check these things neither did they know even my own parents don't even know their genotypes. A word is enough although I wrote an epistle ...LOL

crisycent: My sister and her husband are both AS. After the birth of their first child, it took 5 years before they had the second. This is not because she couldn't get pregnant but because whenever she's pregnant, they test the genotype of the baby in her womb and if it is SS, they abort. But thank God that they finally had to healthy AA male twin babies.

I suggest that if you truly love your AS partner, marry her but make sure you check the genotype of the baby in your wife's womb before you create problem for yourself. Sickle cell is not something anyone can cope with and you just can't help but feel sorry for people with this disease. In 2010, I lost a friend to sickle cell disease and I saw him literarily waste to death....Oghenekaro Brown Ifony....R.I.P

Ah! But the thought of continuous abortion of innocent kids sends shivers down my spine. Why even marry that person when u keep disrupting the life of innocent child? (Nwa bira uwa!!) Why should the child sacrifice for the selfishness of the parents? That's barbaric!!

ikare: my fiancee is SS n we met about a year ago.she dicovered she was ss at age 5 n for a very long time battled with it.she is 28 now n stronger than ever.she gradually learnt how to deal with, primarily by knowing wat d symptons are,wen they come n wat happens wen they are comin. first thn we cleared was d ss issue. she actually tried to make me realize how bad d situation could be, 4 me. but d more we got on,d more i realized dat she is d one 4 me.she is doin great healthwise,in fact on several occassions,i actually was able to predict dat her crisis was near.she's had just 2 so far n they were mild.she takes her medication regularly n by God's grace,d worst is behind us. but the thn i admire most about her is dat she is a fighter n a survivor. she knows wat she has n knows equally how to deal with it. she's bn doin it alone for long, now she has me.so to answer ur question, YES.

God bless your heart for still loving that lady despite the odds.

LOL, they will find you dear.

It's just painful that people get to suffer from a disease that's of no cause of theirs. The pain is just what I have nothing on earth to quantify it. Unless u have seen someone in sickle cell crisis, you would never appreciate the kind of life they live. I call them warriors. People who go through life despite the daily health obstacles.

I believe I have answered your question. Am revealing a lot of Personal info in this thread and they are verifiable infos.
Have an Open Mind. Beatiful things are sometimes hidden in ugly places.

If na beautiful mind, I get am well. I once dated a guy living with this disease, it was even a blind date (a friend hooked us up) so I didn't even know what he looked like and he never gave any authentic details of himself. My mind was wide open till I got to the meet up place and saw one guy limping with a cane walking towards me. I recognised the face, yes I was shocked but being myself, I gave him a warm hug. He never disclosed this to me.So questions followed and he opened up. I loved him anyways, fought off friends who tried to ridicule him but I found out that he was a bitter person about this disease.( Guy was a very cute, intelligent man) am sure he thought I was gonna leave him like the others did. I stayed. He had 3 crisis in just one winter!!.(I don't pray even my enemies to have this disease) wish I could take his pain away. I cried more than him. His hip bone was just grating away, so much pain,Stayed with him till he got better. By Gods grace he survived that one. When he proposed, I didn't know if I wanted to deal with these crisis repeatedly even though I am AA, the fate of my children having to deal with As issues on who to marry hunted me. And his bitter part, I just didn't know how to deal with it.

It's also important that people with SCD get psychotherapy. Cos this kind of thing fit turn person mind like crazy.

Your question is tricky. I must confess

I know why I asked. I found myself at that point and yes, I didn't really know if I could carry on with the risk of dealing with this issue. So maybe someone who is SS can tell us if the tables were turned, would they marry someone in such situation having being through the hurdles and even continuous hurdles of this disease?

I am against AS/AS couples marrying. I am only telling my story, because a lot of people are mis-informed about the kind of life SS people live. When most SS people get to marriageable age, the stigma against them begins. Forget that so many people are educated and "enlightened" but it is only very few people that are open minded, including people that should know better....THE DOCTORS.

If you were AA, would u date or marry an SS person having experienced the Challenges of of living with SCD? Be honest.

Please, I have had this arguement with someone else on another thread. You can read my story in this thread, and I beg you do not mis-inform the public. Malaria attack if not handled well, will result to the death of a SCD person.

debojyde:

It's a thing of probability. The simplest way to explain it to you is that if ur genotype is AS and ur wife's genotype is AS,each child u have as a 1 in 4 (25%) chance of ending up with a genotype that is SS. ...... U could have 20 children and they would all be SS or U could have 20 children and none of them will be SS. But each child u have as a 25% chane of beeping an SS and 25% chance is quite high.

I know parents who are both AS and none of their 5 kids are SS. ( They are either AA or AS). . I also know a family whose parents are both AS and all 3 kids carry the SS genotype.

Not everyone is that lucky. My class mate had 7 siblings and all 6 of them were SS and died 2 years apart. She is the only AS. The eldest Brother was the last to die, he was 46 when he died the most painful death I have ever seen. You can imagine the mothers pain. Don't gamble with ur life!
