EducationRe: Is Davidan Scholarship A Scam Or Not* by Grandest(m): 8:23pm On Jul 04, 2016
chicobaddest:
I applied for the Davidan foundation scholarship and I was shortlisted to write the exam. I also received an email directing me to pay one thousand naira for my "examination pin".
Please is there anyone who is a beneficiary of the scholarship. I would like to know how legit this scholarship is. Thanks
I can't afford to waste 1k in this #BuhariRegime
The message on my e-mail reads: *Dear scholar,* *You are among the list of students whose
details has been verified. You
are required to fill your account details for
possible payment if you make
the test.* *Note that the test is broken into three (3)
different sections Abstract
reasoning, Numerical reasoning and General
Knowledge .* *
Does this mean that I was shortlisted? Please what's the message you got?

Sorry to say but your Sister still lives in the colonial days.

This is 2015! I can't believe there are still people who believe you can only earn a living from what you studied in School. shocked

Your University first degree is jst a stepping stone for you to achieve several other things in life.

Fine there are courses that u know when you study them you will most likely get a job in industries or sectors related to their course of study.
Eg Medicine, Pharmacy(partially), Nursing and related medical line.

For crying out loud Accounting/auditing firms are not dominated by accounting graduates but Engineers and people from technical disciplines.
You see people who studied Agric Economics, English, Mathematics and all working in Banks, Telecom, Manufactuting, Oil and Gas and what have you.

Even in the Zoo they may nt have more than one zoologist.

Your sister is where she is today bc she has refused to wake up to the realities of today.

U do B.Sc for Zoology u no get job u come go do masters for that field again.
Pharmacy( partially)? Could you please shed more light on that?

EducationRe: Nairaland Rankings Of Nigerian Universities by Grandest(m):
MadCow1:
Is this inferiority complex I sense? It was not me boasting.

The Thread is about Nigerian Universities, I didn't attend a Nigerian University. Now you are calling it 'Boasting'. grin

Just so you know, there is currently no Nigerian University ranked higher than my Alma Mata in Africa. grin So your 'harzarded' guess is a miss.

I am sure of that as well. That may however be also partly due to superiority complex of sorts.

However, in this case, I just don't want to tell you. Not because I am ashamed of my Alma mata (hells, there is nothing to be ashamed of especially when they are ranked in the top 20 category in Africa), I just don't want to tell you.

However, if you are that curious to know, feel free to research my post history. I am certain I have name dropped my Alma Mata on Nairaland before. cool

COVENANT UNIVERSITY IS CURRENTLY RANKED HIGHER THAN UNIBEN.. Take a Minute to meditate on that my friend. grin grin grin grin

On a side Note:: I must say your literary skills are very impressive. You write well, don't use all those annoying short texts & your vocabulary is very good.

I am just surprised you are an Alumni of UNIBEN. undecided You must be a little genius.

Take it easy my friend, Its been nice riling you up. cool
Lol. You pulled a fast one on me there. Hmm! I'm blushing, save me bro. I'm still an undergraduate student and not an alumnus yet. Genius? I can't breathe. I'm just your humble home-boy.
It's also impressive to know you stopped being severely critical of Uniben. I never knew you could be so soft-spoken and amiable. In fact, in guiness mode, let's meet at the table of men this christmas. Sorry to burst your bubble: don't allow your imagination run away with you, I'm a complete teetotaller--- I don't drink alcohol.
On a more serious note, the bottom line is one can decide to chart a better course for his destiny irrespective of where he finds himself, Harvard, OAU, Sao Tome, Uniben, Covenant or in your words "poop university" and what have you. Success is personal. I'm a product of my own personal study though I won't discountenance the positive effects of stuudying in Uniben. Obviously Uniben's impact on me is not to be sniffed at. Uniben is a federal government asset and not my father's. I can huff and puff, take up the cudgel in support of my school, all in a bid to put my school in good light. Be that as it may, it doesn't add any worthwhile thing to my CV. Attending the Unibens, UIs, Unilags, MITs, Yales, covenants of this world doesn't necessarily guarantee success though it gives you an edge over others. It would definitely boil down to your personal accomplishments in the long run. That's just my two cents worth.
Boss, It's nice chatting with you. I wish you a merry christmas and a prosperous new year.
Your moniker sounds ridiculous though. No pun intended. Just kidding. With benefit of hindsight, the 2015 current ranking by 4icu placed Covenant ahead of UI, UNIBEN, UNILORIN, ABU, UNN. Are you kidding me? You can by no stretch of the imagination rank Covenant ahead of these schools. No hard feelings boss. Penny for your thoughts?
Cheers!

Lol..

I was not trying to cut any Ice with you metaphorically speaking. The thread is about Nigerian Universities and since my Alma Mata isn't Nigerian, I see no need to share that information with you.

Thanks.

Hope this post was civil enough for you and did not offend your sensibility.

UNIBEN however is still a shit school.
Hmm! Keep deluding yourself. I can hazard a guess that you attended one "mushroom" school in Benin or Ghana, and you're boasting you didn't study in Nigeria. Well, with the little knowledge I have about emotional intelligence, I can deduce that you have no sense of belonging, pride or dignity towards your school. Ask anybody who studied in Harvard, Cambridge or even Legon, on where they graduated from. I'm very sure that without any iota of equivocation, they would make no bones about it to let you know where they studied. That's the sense of pride we are talking about. Mr madcow, your school is not considered in the scheme of things. If at all your school is anything to write home about, I bet you wouldn' hesitate to mention it. If you can't tell me then good riddance to you. Just so you know, believe it or not, UniBen still remains one of the best universities in Nigeria.

MadCow1:
I didn't school in Nigeria..

That's all you need to know.

And UNIBEN is not a school but a centre for housing mentally deranged students who couldn't gain admission into proper Universities.
It cuts no ice with me wherever you studied. I only asked you a simple question, and I'll ask again: "Where did you study?" I'm not asking you if you studied in Nigeria or not. Wherever you studied, I believe the school has a name. Would you stop prevaricating and simply tell me the name of the University you studied, and be honest about it?
Next time, be civil with your choice of words.

Boss Ray360, it's been confirmed by the moderator extraordinaire--- Fynestboi. I think school will be on christmas recess by then. Come on Ray! Let's do this. I'll tell you what, we stand a lot to gain from this. It's not just about representing Uniben or for the sake of competition. This will absolutely go a long way in enhancing our intellectual capacity. We can integrate this with school work. I believe we can look at The Last Nazgul's--- Uniben's erstwhile exceptional representative--- accomplishments and take solace from that, just saying. That's my two cent's worth. As soon as I saw an epistle, I knew it must be a post regarding UNIBEN.

Better school no need all this Grammar. Call Uni's like ABU Zaria and OAU, but please UNIBEN is not a school but an Animal Farm and Witchcraft Coven.

Thanks.

#Continu.
Gracious me! I can't believe this. Must you say say something so vile? Go ahead and give reasons why you think your school is a force to reckon with, and don't attack my views. As a matter of interest, where are you studying? The last time I asked you this question, you were evasive about it. Let guys from OAU, UI, Unilag, et al, speak for themselves. Sing the praises of your own school to the highest heavens, if you're a proud student of that school. I hope Uniben didn't squelch your dream of admission? If that's the case, then get the bitterness off your chest and move on bro. You can give it another shot. Feeling embittered that you were denied admission in Uniben would not solve your problem. Believe it or not, the University of Benin is among Nigerian universities with enviable records.

I respect that sir! All is well, bro. Just so you know, I don't think the debate will commence anytime soon. It would interest you to know that I'm also a freshman. I know how arduous our schedule has been, right from the get-go to this point where exam is fast approaching. I suppose your clearance was stress-free? Today if there is any institution which exerts the greatest influence on us after the family, it is the school. The years that we spend in school are not merely time spent in learning and filling our minds with knowledge, but also time spent in moulding our character, acquiring various attitudes and imbibing basic principles of life.
Can you imagine a school where happiness is due to a beneficial study regime? Then look no further. I strongly urge you to visit the University of no mean repute--- The University Of Benin(UniBen).
First off, my undivided allegiance goes to the first among equals--- University of Benin(UniBen). The welcoming ambience will speak fo itself. First off, the quality of pulsating aestethics and architectural brilliance is absolutely breathtaking. The school building presents a magnificent view. Any outsider may form the idea that it is a memorial building. Besides the fascinating building, there are othe r things whicht would pique your interest. The reputation of Great UniBen is built on research and academic excellence. We have avalanche of internationally renowned erudite professors and lecturers who are at the top-of-the-range and well versed in their professions. The students view studying as an elixir. In UniBen, the students believe success in reading, in local parlance "jacking" can only be earned the hard way, therefore you read until you "run mad." Little wonder why we come out on top in most competitions-- home and abroad.
We have state-of-the-art laboratories, libraries, lecture theatres, sport complex, etc. at our disposal.
Co-curricular activities, such as scouting, Eco-club, inter faculty sport championship, school band, debates, have immensely contributed in making the University an exceptional educational institution. Little wonder why the school is the second most sought after as regards JAMB's statistics. The school operate a merit-based yet competitive admission that funnels in the best students. Suffice me to call UniBen "CANDIDATES' FAVOURITE."
In UniBen, a lot of emphasis is given to character formation and acquiring good values in life.
UniBen is incomparable. It's in a class of its own.
THE UNIVERSITY OF BENIN--- KNOWLEDGE FOR SERVICE.

#please, when is that gst tutorial holding tomorrow? Lemme get myself busy with it,afterall,na skool I kome....

Bluto, all this your grammar fit easily make you make mistake. Many years ago when we dey secondry skool, no levels then, we go jast dey blow grammar anyhow jast to get to a girl's panties. Na then grammar help well well...bekause na only book be our swag then.. Tis reallyreally funnie....

Now, there's hardly an english word I don't understand bekause I patronise them in my writing. You know, using obese words can add flavour to writing; but not when you are yanning with your pals, (it can make one look helpless, hapless and stupid)... If you see me address a formal meeting, you will know I love grammar too.

I had written a short story, a very nice one that people loved. But all a critic kould kome up with was that the piece was ungrammatical. My ego was injured. So, fat grammar is good when necessary.
You mince and mix up words at time; a context may require necessary and another, mandatory... In waec then, dunno if you remember that comprehension... When dash will litter the komprehension, and a table of "similar" options will pose bellow. Normally in everyday english, all options kan easily go, buh it doesn't work that way... If you wanna do this, leave no loophole....
Absolutely spot on!
