The Igbo Women Traders Association under the leadership of Mrs Promise Ezeigwe, who is also, the State Women Leader of ASMATA, led a huge delegation of the various leadership heads to pay a courtesy visit to Chief Sir Melie Ifeanyi Onyejepu at his country home in Odida Nnewichi Nnewi.
The market women who are very well accomplished both as business and community leaders had taken the decision to select not more than five men of substance to be their patrons.
The ambience for the occasion was very festive and welcoming Chief Sir Melie Onyejepu’s house. The women indeed felt at home from their demeanor.
It was under this atmosphere that Mrs Promise Ezeigwe rose to articulate the purpose of the visit to Ogbuefi Melie.
She said that when they undertook this present project that she kept hearing the name, ‘Melie’ from virtually all recommendations coming to her. She decided that rather than send the letter of appointment to Chief Sir Melie Onyejepu, that they should visit him to present the letter of appointment, and as well, use the opportunity to satisfy her curiosity of meeting the man whose name precedes him.
Mrs Ezeigwe continued by saying that Ogbuefi Melie’s reputation is very intact through the testimomials of every delegate from Nnewi market and other markets in Anambra state who know him.
“It was because of your impeccable reputation that the entire enlarged state EXCO uninamously voted to make you our patron”.
“Nothing gladdens the heart of women more than having an upright man for a brother, son, and or a husband”.
“In this case, we humbly invite you to please become our Patron”.
Mrs Ezeigwe spoke further on why they are very happy with the government of Chief Wilie Obiano and her Excellency, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano(Osodieme). She said that it was Willie Obiano who paved the way for the women to have an independent organization to cater to their needs.
She informed Melie that they worked amicably with Peter Obi, however, the erstwhile governor could not grant their request to address the women issues separately.
“That non-action by Governor Obi meant that the women in the market could not have a voice in matters that concern them since the men usually control the market and the revenue”.
“It is important to note that despite everything, we continued to champion the elections each cycle “.

Chief Melie responded to the market women by thanking them. First, by giving consideration to his person, and secondly, having faith that he would diligently attend to their needs.
Chief Onyejepu gave them a brief bio of his career. He told them that he has been a banker with 24 years of experience.
In fact he was one of the pioneer staff of Diamond bank.
Chief Sir Melie extolled the virtues of women for their commitment in everything they do.
“No one can out-manoeuvre the women when they take a stand”.
“The women have a great deal of discipline which they apply liberally without any compromise when a member runs afoul of their4 regulations”.
He begged them to keep thanking and supporting Governor Obiano for the excellent work he has been doing for the good people of Anambra state.
He told the women group that even with the crisis in the oil market which affected Nigeria and all states’ revenue allocation, that the Anambra state government continues to pay salaries and pensions.
“In fact, while most states that got bailed out with funds to meet salary arrears, have gone in debt, deeper in salary arrears to workers, while, Governor Obiano has perfected plans to begin paying Anambra state workers the new minimum wage.
Chief Melie spoke on various projects the state is handling, particularly, those that are coming on stream.
The street lights phenomenon has greatly reduced crimes in the state. It has helped to increase the revenue base of our people, particularly, the women who could now utilize the street lights to trade safely.
He spoke glowingly of the special love the Governor has for Nnewi. That the Obiano’s government has spent over 11billion naira in visible projects in Nnewi.
He pointed to the land-mark erosion projects being done at Obiofia Okpuno Nnewichi and 100 foot road by very reputable companies.
Besides the government’s investment in projects in Nnewi, no other town after Aguleri has more political appointments than Nnewi.
He urged the market women leaders to always monitor the activities of the government, otherwise, they may fall prey to the antics of the opposition groups that only feed the people malicious negative propaganda against the working governor.
Chief Melie Onyejepu asked the women to keep supporting Her Excellency for her generosity and love towards the needy children.
He said that he has never seen any woman with such large heart, who is always eager to assist women and children in difficulties.
Finally, Chief Onyejepu asked the women to be consistent in their dealings at all times because he does not know how to promise and fail.
In responding to Melie’s acceptance of the patronship, the president, Mrs Ezeigwe praised Chief Melie Onyejepu for accepting to be their patron.
She reiterated that they are committed to what ever program their patron intends to promote at any time. That they would lead such with a lot of fanfare.

The market women later presented Chief Sir Melie Onyejepu with a giant silver-crafted clock.

The members of the Association of APGA Aspirants (AAA), today hosted Hon Sir Melie Onyejepu at Nnewi over his new appointment as the General Manager of the Bureau of Public Procurement by the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr Sir Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano (Akpokuedike Global).
In his opening speech, the leader of the Association, Hon Owelle Mbaso said that the group deemed it fit to host and congratulate him over the new appointment which according to them, was as a result of Hon Melie's hardwork, dedication and what have you.

Hon Mbaso on behalf of the Association made it clear that they are already looking forward to working with him at higher level with a higher responsibilites. And that they are still full part of the APGA family and are ready to work with and for him at any higher responsibilites given to him by the party.
They also stated that his appointment is one of the best things that have ever happened in this present administration, because they believe that he is the right person for the job.
They also used the opportunity to laud Gov Willie Obiano for putting the right peg perfectly into the right hole via this appointment.

Hon Sir Melie Onyejepu in response, thanked the association for hosting him. He aslo used the opportunity to thank them for their steadfastness and believe in APGA despite all that happened in the past.
He urged them to continue to support Gov Willie Obiano administration, because according to him, the Governor is a very nice person, and that he also believe that all their recent demands from the Governor has been met. He begged them to forgive peradventure any of those demands were not met, and continue working and supporting the party.

Recall that the Executive Governor of Anambra State, H E Chief Dr Sir Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano, Akpokuedike Global, on the 29th day of May, 2020 Inaugurated the fourteen Man (14) Bureau of Public Procurement Board with Hon Sir Melie Onyejepu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Budget/Efficiency Unit/AIRS, as its General Manager.

A team of NEWMAP officers from Anambra State visited Nnewichi Community today to sensitise them on the methods and ways of curtailing climate change.
In his opening speech, the Communication Officer of ANS-NEWMAP briefed the community members of the reasons of their visit. He advised on the use of the energy saving bulbs in our various homes, which according to him is one of the major ways of curtailing global warming and gas emission which causes Climate Change. He presented cartons of energy saving bulbs to be shared amongst the households in the community in line Gov Willie Obiano's efforts to give Anambra State a Climate free Environment tagged, "One Community at a time."
In his on remarks, the team's leader, Engr Ananaba Ephraim C. the
Monitoring & Evaluation, Anambra State focal Officer on NGO/NEWMAP, informed the community that they will soon deliver to them, One hundred and ten (110) species of assorted economic trees which according to him will go a long way in helping to checkmate the climate change and flood. He advised that that trees like Cashew should be planted at the Erosion Site because their roots being so strong will help in minimizing the flow of flood around the Erosion. He also educated the community on one of the best ways of curtailing climate change and massive flooding, which according to him, is tree planting, hence the reason they are making the trees available. He informed the community that Nnewichi is lucky to be among the communities listed as beneficiaries of the trees and the energy saving bulbs, because of the good and smooth relationship existing between ANS-NEWMAP and Hon Melie Onyejepu, who is from the community.
The Chairman of Nnewichi Community Erosion and other related matters committee, Hon Eloka Ubajekwe thanked the Anambra State Govt under the leadership of Akpokuedike Global, Gov Willie Obiano for his loving kindness and generosity towards Nnewichi Community. He also thanked Hon Melie Onyejepu who is one of their own for putting the interest of the community first in all his actions in this present day Anambra State, He recalled that it was the same Hon Melie Onyejepu that singles handedly brought the World Bank in conjunction with the NEWMAP and Anambra State Govt to the Nnewichi Erosion Site.
The energy saving bulbs were distributed to over One Hundred and Twenty (120) households across the whole villages in Nnewichi Community.
Questions and answers session were taken as the community in unionism agreed that the 80% of the economic trees should be planted at the Erosion Site.

COVID-19 Updates: Obiano Addresses Ndi Anambra for the 13th Time.

A Special Broadcast on Covid-19 by the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano on Wednesday June 10, 2020.

Ndi Anambra ekenem unu-o!

I am here to give you an update on the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in our dear state. As we are all aware, there is a surge in the incidence of Covid-19 nationwide at the moment. Ndi Anambra, I have repeatedly warned that as we ramp up our testing campaign, the number of Covid-19 cases would go up. It should not surprise anyone therefore that the number of Covid-19 cases has gone up in our dear state with the increased number of testing. Interestingly, that is the pattern of the nationwide spread of the pandemic at this moment in time.

However, as I have assured you in my previous addresses, we have made adequate arrangements to contain the virus in Anambra State. So, I would advise everyone to remain calm. There is no need to panic. If we continue to carry out all the safety measures outlined in the Covid-19 protocol by both the World Health Organization and the Nigerian Center for Disease Control, we shall survive this pandemic.

Update on Cases:

Ndi Anambra, following our Active Search Campaign across the state, we have collected a total of 302 samples so far. Out of this figure, 230 results have been released to us while 72 results are still pending with the NCDC testing center. Out of the 230 results that have been released to us, 53 results returned positive, 13 patients have been discharged, 9 people have passed away while 31 cases are still active. In the meantime, 7 patients are in our Protective Care Center, receiving medical attention.

Ndi Anambra, it is important to note that the medical status of 7 of the 9 patients who died of Covid-19 in this state was confirmed after a postmortem test on them. In other words, they did not come to our Protective Care Center for professional management. This is why I must warn that delay is often dangerous in the management of Covid-19 cases. People who show symptoms of this deadly virus are advised to report their conditions early as it increases their chances of surviving this pandemic.

Umu nnem, I must also inform you that almost 90% of the people that have died from Covid-19 in our state were aged from 60 years and above. It is therefore important that people who fall into this age category who are said to have what the experts call co-mobility, should maintain a high level of vigilance to minimize chances of their exposure to the virus. Ndi Anambra, I must also emphasize that this pandemic does not select its victims based on age. In fact, one of the victims of the virus in this state was only 24 years old. And this is why we must all maintain a high level of vigilance to survive this scourge.

The Covid-19 Law:

Ndi Anambra, I cannot conclude this address without reminding you that the Anambra State Covid-19 and Other Dangerous Diseases Prevention and Eradication Law has come into effect. The Law makes it an offence for anyone to appear in public without wearing a face mask. It is important that we observe this law diligently because it will enhance our chances of surviving the onslaught of this pandemic. Again, we are determined to ensure that anyone who flouts this law will be brought to judgment. Umu nnem, I advise everyone to ensure the strictest compliance with this law.

Our Healthcare Workers:

As we intensify efforts in the on-going Active Case Search Campaign, the increase in positive cases will definitely test the resolve and capacity of our healthcare workers. These people are our first line of defence against this pandemic and we must always reserve a kind word for them. They are putting in a lot of work to ensure that this virus allows our people the chance to breathe. So far, our healthcare workers have justified our confidence in them with their impressive performance. Jisienu ike. Dalunu!

Conclusion:

In conclusion, Umu nnem, onye ndi ilo gbara gburugburu na eche ndu ya nche mgbe dum. The Covid-19 pandemic is an enemy that seeks to surround humanity with its virulent touch. Ndi Anambra only the grace of God and our own eternal vigilance will save us from the onslaught of this pandemic. I have no doubt that if we continue to maintain a high level of vigilance by complying with the standard Covid-19 protocol from the WHO and NCDC, we shall outlive this pandemic.

Gov. Obiano Presents N2M Cash Reward , Wife Donates Bags Of Rice To Police Operatives For Foiling Robbery Attack In Awka

Governor Willie Obiano has presented a cash reward of two million
naira to police operatives, who foiled armed robbery attack at Regina
Caeli Junction, along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Awka to boost their
morale and encourage others to emulate them.

Similarly, the Governor’s wife, Ebelechukwu, equally donated four bags
of fifty Kilograms of Rice to the police operatives.
A release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna
Mohammed, listed the Police operatives to include three Inspectors,
four Sergeants and one Constable attached to Department of Operations
and MOPOL 29 PMF Awka.

According to the release, the Commissioner of Police, CP John Abang,
after disbursing the cash to the officers, who received two hundred
and fifty thousand naira and twenty-five kilogram bag of rice each,
thanked Governor Obiano and his wife for motivating the officers.
CP Abang, who said the gesture will go a long way in boosting the
morale of the officers and encourage them to redouble their efforts,
assured the Governor and Ndi Anambra” that the Command under his watch
will continue to enhance safety and security in the state and deny
criminal elements the opportunities to perpetrate their dastardly
acts.

Anambra Increases Security, Resumes Aerial Surveillance.

Despite its reputation as Nigeria’s safest place in the last five years, Anambra State is intensifying its security level.
 
A memo which Governor Willie Obiano sent to members of the state Security Council this morning said areas which “are for now of great interest are banks in border towns like Ihiala and Umunze to ensure that armed robbers from other states do not strike here as they were doing before this administration; the forests to establish that undesirable elements are not hiding there; Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi to rout out all the cult members; and a number of villages and towns to end the cultivation and sale of illicit drugs like marijuana”.
 
The memo explained that the heightened security has become necessary in view of the economic hardship brought about by the coronavirus pandemic and the fight against it which has entailed such measures as the lockdown on some key activities.
 
It also explained that the security measures were necessitated by reports, though without evidence, that some people may have defied the presidential order prohibiting interstate movements and consequently entered any of the bushes in the state.
 
“We don’t want to take chances”, the memo said.
 
“The state police command is deploying Armoured Personnel Carriers to protect banks in border towns, and the banks will from this day have greater surveillance from not just the police and the Department of State Security but also the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) and the Nigeria Civil Defence and Security Corps.
 
“If there are banks which do not yet have CCTVs, they have to install them immediately.
 
“The Secretary to the State Government will issue the same directive to filling stations in our state because they could be targets of criminals”.
 
Governor Obiano directed the AVG, headed by former Police Commissioner Ikechukwu Aduba, to lead the police, DSS, NCDSC, army and navy to comb all forests in the state while the police start aerial surveillance of these places immediately.
 
The memo identified Inland Town in Onitsha, Okpoko in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Obosi in Idemili North LGA and Ihiala Town as areas where cult-related crime has spiked in recent times and, therefore, directed the security agencies to get cracking.
 
“The NDLEA should join in regular raids of these places because of the high consumption of illegal drugs by criminals here, apart from the fact that the NDLEA will conduct with greater intensity raids in places where all kinds of substances are produced”.
 
He ordered the Cattle Menace Committee led by the Commissioner of Police, John Bassey Abang, to dispose of all cases brought before it within two weeks.
 
He stated the reason for the directive: “Apart from the fact that justice delayed is justice denied, we must bear in mind that we are now in the rainy season when crops grow well, and this may attract cattle to  farms.
 
“In the same vein, we don’t want farmers to take the law into their hands by killing offending cattle”.
 
Chief Obiano enjoined the security and intelligence chiefs to hold regular dialogues with their counterparts in neigbouring states for improved security.
 
“Anambra’s security is, to a large extent”, noted the governor, “dependent on the security of our neighbours, as we saw how armed robbers from certain states used to terrorise our state up to 2011.
 
“Anambra State doesn’t want to be an island of peace and tranquility; we would rather work for the good of all”.
 
On assumption of office in March, 2014, Governor Obiano led a security summit in Awka, Anambra State capital, which was attended by all five Southeast governors plus the Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
 
It is widely believed that the summit resulted in Anambra’s quick emergence as Nigeria’s safest state.

Motion calling on Governor of Anambra to construct dilapidated roads in Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi.

Nnewi is one of the industrial hubs in Nigeria and the second most viable commercial town in Anambra State. Nnewi, as the supposed Japan of Africa, has continued to face a serious challenge in road infrastructure.

The deplorable state of roads in Nnewi has become a nightmare to her ever-increasing population. Whenever it rains, it is always a bitter experience for commuters and residents. Worse is that some of the existing good roads in the town are fast dilapidating.

On Tuesday, 2nd June, 2020, on the floor of the hallowed chamber of Anambra State House of Assembly, I sponsored a motion calling on the Executive Governor of Anambra, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano, to intervene by constructing dilapidated roads in Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi.

Moving the motion, I explained that Nnewi is hard hit by road infrastructure gap, which is currently making it difficult for the town to fulfil its growth aspirations and potentials as a manufacturing and business centre.

Constructing accessible roads is very important for businesses to thrive, some of the roads constructed in the town by past administrations were poorly built. Most of the paved roads networks have lost their asphalt surface and are covered by water during the raining season because of lack of proper drainage, uneven surfaces, potholes, and eroded areas.

To enable more development in Nnewi, the state government should make construction and rehabilitation of roads a top priority in Nnewi, the multiplicity of accessible road network will trigger more social and economic activities.

If possible, there is the need for more ring roads to enable easy connectivity, the increasing economic activities also calls for dualization of key Nnewi roads to ease the congestion experienced in Ibeto Junction, St. Mary's Road, Amuko Junction, Owerri road, Nwafor Uruagu road and Nwafor-Orizu.

Our dear Governor, His Excellency, Governor Chief Dr. Willie Obiano, has really done a lot in Nnewi especially in terms of roads and erosion control, but as a town that has a long history of poor road infrastructure, we are still asking for more government attention.

Two beneficiaries of free Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery facilitated by the Wife of Governor of Anambra State, Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) met her on 29th May, 2020 at Government House, Awka to express their appreciation for the new lease of life they received.

The beneficiaries of free surgery facilitated through the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE), NGO of the Wife of the Governor, shortly before the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic are ten year old Chikamso Okechukwu from Ichida, Anaocha Local Government Area, and four year old Chinemeze Obiefuna from Umuelum in Ayamelum Local Government Areas.

The children are among the 102 beneficiaries of correctional surgery for congenital mouth deformity of cleft lip/palate sponsored in partnership with Smile Train International at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi.

Speaking shortly after appraising the work done on the children, Mrs. Obiano urged parents who have children with such deformity to bring them out as the surgeries are done free of charge.

Mrs. Obiano who received the children alongside their families explained that the surgery would help the children to gain their self-esteem and associate freely with their peers without any form of social discrimination.

She restated her commitment to reaching out and providing succour to the less privileged through her NGO, CAFE. She stressed that compassionate works of charity drive her life passions and inform her principles.

Whilst thanking the wife of the Governor for saving the future of their children through the free surgery, the parents of the two children, Mrs. Eunice Okechukwu and Mrs. Angela Obiefuna, said that they had taken the children to different places to no avail until Mrs. Obiano came to their families rescue. They prayed that God should continue to empower and encourage Mrs. Obiano in her unassailable acts of charity.

Governor Willie Obiano has inaugurated the public procurement bureau. The inauguration took place at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia.

It has some of its terms of reference as formulation of general policies and guidelines relating to public sector procurement for the approval of the council, monitoring of prices of tendered items, among others.

Other members of the board include Prof. Kate Omenugha, Mr Greg Obi, Mr Nnamdi Onukwuba, Dr Christian Madubuko, Barr. Pat Igwebuike and Mr Ernest Adinweruka.
Others are Mr Afam Mbanefo, Mr Willie Nwokoye, Barr. Chukwka Ezewuzie, Arch. Okey Ezeobi, Mr Chris Iteke, Mr. Simon Attah and Mr Leo Ogbuefi.

Performing the inauguration ceremony, Governor Obiano said that notwithstanding the existence of a due process board chaired by Mr Afam Mbanefo, it will continue its operations within the framework of the newly inaugurated Bureau.

Recall that General Manger, Hon Melie Onyejepu, is also the Special Adviser on Budget/Efficiency Unit/ AIRS. An astute banker and financial expert with over 18 years’ experience which saw him excel in Retail Banking and Product Development, Commercial Banking, Corporate Banking, Banking Management, Loan Recovery, Loan Portfolio Packaging and Management at various capacities in Diamond Bank Plc, First Atlantic Bank Plc and Fidelity Bank Plc where he was Assistant General Manager before joining the Obiano administration as Senior Special Assistant on Budget and Financial Strategy.

Hon. Nonso Okafor, First Lawmaker To Complete A Constituency Project – Anambra Speaker

The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor, has described the Member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor, as a proactive Lawmaker who prioritizes the welfare of his people and has continued to deliver dividends of democracy.

Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor who was in Nnewi during the weekend, to commission a 3-Bedroom Bungalow built for three (3) childless widows by Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor, praised the young lawmaker for finding it necessary to put smiles on the faces of the women.

The Speaker revealed that Hon. Nonso Okafor remains the first and only lawmaker in the current 7th Assembly of Anambra State House of Assembly, to have built, completed and commissioned a constituency project.

Speaking he said, “Nonso chose to build this property as part of his constituency project, for these our dear mothers, while we appreciate him, I want to say this and say it loudly, Nonso is the first House Member in this 7th Assembly, that have completed a constituency project”

While commending Hon. Nonso Okafor, he also appreciated the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano for providing the needed support for Anambra Lawmakers to build projects across their various constituencies.

He however, appreciated Ndi Nnewi for voting Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor into the House Assembly and also for standing by him all through.

The erosion site at Obeleagu Ozalla road, Onitsha has started to recieve the attention of Anambra state government.

Governor Willie Obiano visited the site to give on -the -spot assessment of the impact to the entire area.

The erosion which has affected about forty buildings, with many more under threat, is about thirty five meters deep. During the visit, tractors and workers were seen working on the site.

Governor Obiano who said that the contractor had given assurances to control the erosion in twenty days, pointed out that the they gave assurances that they will work day and night to deliver on the project.

The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Marcel Ifejiofor, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Primus Odili, among others, accompanied the Governor for the inspection, while some Onitsha cabinet members and residents were on ground to recieve them.

Recall that when that of 100ft road Nnewi became so terrifying and dangerous, Ndi Nnewi through their humble and dedicated son, Hon Sir Melie Onyejepu, "Ogbuefi" called on Akpokuedike, and he answered by coming to their rescue, low and behold, the all threatening and intimidating 100ft road Erosion menace took to its heels and ran away. That is one of the reasons why Ndi Nnewi nicknamed him "AKPOO AZA NNEWI".

Time For Mothers to Show more Interest in Education of their Children - Mrs. Obiano

The wife of Governor of Anambra State and founder of Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE), an NGO, Her Excellency Dr. (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano(Osodieme) has called on mothers to show more interest in the education of their children.

Mrs. Obiano made the plea against the backdrop of the Coronavirus pandemic in a special message in commemoration of the 2020 Children's Day signed on her behalf by Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Emeka Ozumba.

In her words, "It is no longer news that the Coronavirus has drastically altered the way we live and more so the education of our children. From physical presence in class rooms to remote learning at home with new challenges requiring careful guidance of the children in how they learn and what they do."

According to Mrs. Obiano, mothers are uniquely positioned to help the children to achieve their full potentials despite the the challenges of distant learning. They have an obligation to bridge the gap between the children's conventional physical presence in schools and the nuances of e-learning at home.

"Mothers are now required to ensure that the children achieve good academic standards by adapting to the new teaching mode, keeping to timetables, doing assignments and achieving good grades as well as being ready when school resumes," she emphasized

Mrs. Obiano observed that the chosen theme for 2020 Children's Day celebrations: Promoting Girl Child Education for Sustainable Development is very apt and timely especially with the challenges posed by Covid-19 which she noted requires sustained effort by all to overcome.

Whilst wishing the children happy 2020 Children's Day celebrations, Mrs. Obiano urged them to be disciplined by obeying all Covid-19 protocols like keeping required social distance, washing of hands, using hand sanitizers and wearing of facemasks in public.

She emphasised the need for the children not to despair but to be upbeat about life beyond the momentary revulsion of the pandemic.

Retired Teacher, Ezeokeke Donates May Pension to Anambra State Government To Help Fight The Spread Of Coronavirus In The State

A retired teacher, Sir Benjamin Ezeokeke from Umuezekwem ward, Ifite village of Oko in Orumba North Council Area has donated his May 2020 pension to the Anambra State Covid-19 Fund.

Sir Benjamin with Identity card number AN-1929 said this is to commend and encourage Governor Willie Obiano in his efforts in cushioning the hardships posed by the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

He said it will also show the Governor that Ndi Anambra appreciate his giant strides in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a release he signed and obtained by the ABS, Sir Benjamin noted that though his contribution might appear little but it comes with grateful heart and prayers for the state government that will see the end of the COVID-19.

The Retired Teacher disclosed that he decided to make his donation through the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) with the fact that the station is an authority full of effectiveness and eager to execute the vision of the state government.

COVID-19 Response: Anambra/Delta States Government Officials Meet Over Bridgehead Barricade

Officials of Governments of Anambra and Delta States met today, Tuesday, 26th May, 2020 to streamline and strategize on the barricading of Onitsha bridgehead, as part of COVID-19 response.

Recall that the government of Anambra state erected iron bars to inhibit passage of non-essential service providers.

Secretary to the government of Anambra state, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu and his Delta State counterpart, Mr Chiedu Ebie including Commissioners of police of both states, as well as task force teams from both states participated in the meeting.

At the end of the Physical meeting, the two states agreed on a number of measures including; processing points within both states, should be shifted backwards, the two states should stick to the definition of essential services provided by the presidency.

Other decisions reached are that the two states should swap personnels, among others.

Fredrick Whizer of Julius Berger Plc who was also part of the meeting said that the Federal Controller of Works had already written a letter expressing concern over the integrity of the bridge as a result of accumulation of heavy traffic on the bridge.

The two teams afterwards, jointly checked a few vehicles to ensure compliance.

COVID~19: Obiano Speaks to NdiAnambra for the 11th Time.

A Special Broadcast on Covid-19 by the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano on Monday May 25, 2020.

It is my pleasure once again to update you on the efforts our dear state is making to protect our people from the fast-spreading Covid-19 pandemic that is ravaging the world today.

As you are well aware, long before we recorded our Covid-19 Index Case on April 9, 2020, we had made some commendable arrangements that would give us a fighting chance against this pandemic. We have put together a 428-bed Protective Care Center to absorb Covid-19 cases and nurse them back to good health. We have made elaborate arrangements to fight this pandemic…we have fumigated all the 63 markets in Anambra State and distributed palliative materials to segments of our society. We have also continued to emphasize the strict adherence to all the Covid-19 protocol which includes heavy use of nose masks, frequent washing of hands, regular use of hand-sanitizer and maintenance of social distancing.

Covid-19 Cases in our Protective Care Centers:

Ndi Anambra, out of the many tests we have conducted so far, we have recorded 9 positive Covid-19 cases. Four of these cases are currently in our Protective Care Center. One of the cases was accompanying a corpse from Lagos to Imo State when his sample was captured in Anambra for testing. He has since returned to Lagos and we have communicated the appropriate authorities about his whereabouts. Three of the cases have been discharged and only one case has passed on. Ndi Anambra it is important to explain here that the only Covid-19 death we have recorded so far was a 66-year old man who did not report his ill-health on time. His case was reported late to the hospital and by the time his result came back positive, 24 hours later, he had passed away. Ndi Anambra, there is a possibility that his case would have been managed well if our Team had been alerted on time. I urge you to cooperate with our efforts to protect lives. People who hide their medical conditions run a high risk of dying from Covid-19. Please, let us bear this in mind!

Community Covid-19 Task Force:

Ndi Anambra, it is important to note that the rise in the reported cases of Covid-19 in Anambra State is as a result of the Aggressive Case Search mounted by the Special Task Force on Covid-19, headed by my humble self. Following the success of the Task Force at the state level, we have since extended our activities to the 326 wards in Anambra State for a more aggressive campaign against the pandemic. The membership of this Task Force at the community level includes: The Officer-in-Charge of Primary Healthcare Center, the Community Woman Leader, the Community Youth Leader, the Representative of the Ministry of Health and the Representative of the Civil Society. The Team shall be headed by the Councilor of the Ward but the Local Government Chairman and his Medical Team shall supervise the activities of the entire Team. Ndi Anambra, I have no doubt that this structure will help us to ramp up more tests in the various communities and weed out the virus from the populace. We shall continue to innovate and seek new creative responses to Covid-19 as time goes on.

Covid-19 Case Medication Team:

Ndi Anambra, we have decided to set up a Case Medication Team. This Team is made up of seasoned medical practitioners and public health officers who will deliberate and decide the best medical approaches to adopt on a case-by-case basis.

Attitude to Covid-19 Patients:

It has come to our knowledge that some health workers turn automatically hostile to patients who they suspect of having Covid-19 symptoms. This is not acceptable in Anambra State. We cannot encourage any attitude that will discourage possible Covid-19 patients from walking willingly into hospitals to reveal their condition. I fully recognize the overriding importance of our healthcare workers who are on the frontline of the battle against this pandemic. It is on record that I generously acknowledged the efforts of the health workers who handled our Index Case and our two newly discharged cases here and assured them of some rewards. So, we deeply appreciate our healthcare workers but we must also discourage any negative attitude from them where it exists. It is on this note that I wish to appeal for a better understanding and empathy from our healthcare workers and urge them to keep to their professional oath.

Advise to Hospitals in Anambra State:

I wish to advise the management of all hospitals in Anambra State to create an Isolation Room where any patient whose sample has been taken for Covid-19 testing can be kept while the result of the test is awaited. If a patient who is suspected of Covid-19 is placed in an isolation ward, it reduces the pressure we have to contend with in the volume of contact tracing that arises from allowing a suspected patient to roam freely. We expect all hospitals in Anambra State to comply with this directive with immediate effect.

Conclusion:

Ndi Anambra, we have done well so far in the battle against this pandemic. But we can still improve on our performance and place our dear state in an enviable position in the ranking of Covid-19 Status in Nigeria by doing all the things that we are expected to do to flatten the curve on this pandemic in Anambra state.

Ndi Anambra, we are giving this challenge our best efforts. The setting up of Covid-19 Task Force at the Ward Level will play a major role in increased detection and reportage of more cases of Covid-19 in Anambra State. So, while there may be a sharp rise in the number of cases in the coming weeks, rest assured that we have enough capacity to handle what will come out of the increased testing. There is no need for panic. We are on top of this situation. And by the grace of God, Anambra State shall come out safe from this pandemic!

Solomon Onwusika the movement National Secretary and Hon. Muoneme onyedika coordinator Anambra south took turn to express their satisfactory remarks as they were both elated at the organization and comportment of Ndi Aguata

Major highlights of the visit was sensitization and inauguration of the movement Ward Woman Leaders as the National Secretary familiarized with Ward Secretaries and their Assistants. Gifts were shared to every woman present. Golibe extols the leadership successes of His Excellency Chief Dr. Willie Obiano and " "Osodieme" Her Excellency Chief Dr. Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano maintaining that Good Governance is what defines Anambra State present admnistration.

The National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ozonkpu Dr. Victor Ike Oye, has congratulated all muslims for successfully completing the month-long Ramadan Fast and now ready to celebrate the Eid-el-Fitri.

In his message to all muslims released in Abuja on Friday, Dr. Oye expressed joy that this year's Ramadan Fast went through without any major incidents, considering the ravaging impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He urged muslims to live by the lessons learned during Ramadan by ensuring that they remained law abiding, charitable and hard working.

He advised all Nigerians to always be conscious of the dangers COVID-19 posed to our nation, and endeavour to maintain religiously the advisories by health and security authorities in order not to fall victims in the end.

Dr. Oye urged muslims to celebrate responsibly and shun acts capable of exposing them to unnecessary dangers.

He prayed God to heal our nation of every infirmity and keep us at peace with one another.
