Oga dat yaf lived in developed climes i hear u https://www.theguardian.com/music/2011/sep/14/chinua-achebe-50-cent make i epp u post d story sef Chinua Achebe forces 50 Cent to rename movie Things fall apart for rapper as Nigerian writer makes him change forthcoming film title to avoid conflict with 1958 novel Sean Michaels Wed 14 Sep 2011 11.15 BST First published on Wed 14 Sep 2011 11.15 BST This article is over 6 years old Shares 23 Comments 71 50 Cent Cheer up Fiddy … 50 Cent forced to change film title 50 Cent has been undone by one of Africa's greatest novelists, Chinua Achebe. The rapper's latest movie has been renamed ahead of its release, due to a conflict with Achebe's most famous work. Things Fall Apart, published by Achebe in 1958, is Nigeria's most famous English-language novel. It has sold more than 8m copies worldwide. Unfortunately, 50 Cent was not aware of this. He spent much of 2010 shooting a film of the same name, the story of an American football player diagnosed with cancer. "It's a project that I wrote, produced and financed myself," he explained last year. Directed by Mario Van Peebles, it premiered at the Miami film festival in March and is expected to be released soon. Unfortunately for Fiddy, his film will not keep its original title. After being contacted by Achebe's legal team, 50 Cent allegedly offered $1m to hold on to the title. Achebe, 80, took this as an insult. "The novel with the said title was initially produced in 1958 (that is 17 years before [50] was born)," replied his lawyers, according to Naijan. "[It is] listed as the most-read book in modern African literature, and won't be sold for even £1bn." The film has now been renamed to All Things Fall Apart. [/quote Oga movie is a different terrain, moreover, I talked about a name that has been trademarked, if it has been trademarked no one else is able to use it no more. And you have every right to sue such person or persons. We are talking about musical works though. I can give you list of musicals that has the same titles, and yet nothing happens. In movies, for example they have board that you have to go to before you release the movie. They will have to check on the titles of the already released movies before they can approve yours new work so as not to bring confusion. But in music, they don't go through this steps. 10 persons can have the same title of songs so long they don't sound alike or have element of copy work in it that is where issues might come in. But in movies, whether or not the works look alike is an issue when they have same title. |
dammiecool:Oga title does not matter. I have lived in many developed climes ok. I have told you where it matters, except it has trademark on it. Or it has element of original work in the new work. You don't just sue, you might get knocked in the end, if your work does not seem alike when probed. |
romeorailss:All join. Lol. |
deltaisgreat:Speak for yourself. Don't use the word "we". Go get your pc and vote him out, I have the right to vote whoever I like, including Buhari. |
Damn... this is craziness |
Xda59:Agreed. This sound sure sound like that of Danfo drivers. And Tekno sure bleeped up on this one. He should take permission first. But some people just want to sue if you use same title as theirs, which will never stand. That's why i used sir Victor Uwaifo's work as an example. He claims Simi copied his work just because of the title. Then I listened to the songs they never sound alike at all. But he said he will not sue her though but she should have come to him first before using that title... I just weak for the man that time. |
QuietHammer:Wasn't talking about tekno's work. Agreed Tekno sounds much alike like that of Danfo Drivers truly and Tekno bleeped up though, he should sort for their permission first. But I was actually talking about Simi's Joromi vs Sir Victor Uwaifo's Joromi. They didn't sound alike in anyway. That's not intellectual property of Sir Victor Uwaifo. He doesn't have some right to the title Joromi anyone can title their work as Joromi unless he puts trademark on that name. |
safarigirl:Oga that's not intellectual property. Did you listen to Simi' s Jerome? And Sir Victor's own? Do they sound alike to start with? In any clime sir Victor don't have a good case, he can't certainly win, he will only end up ridicule himself. He should have sue and embarrass himself. Anyone can use the same title of your song. Except it has a trademark. Even in USA people use the same title that is a sane clime. So talk another thing. |
ungrateful bastard. Na so Dem dey start. |
this one serious ooo. The hustle for relevance is real. Danfo Drivers pls move on. The other day, sir Victor Uwaifo called out Simi for singing Jerome and Jaywon for singing Jerome, meanwhile, those Jerome by both Simi and Jaywon don't even sound like that of Sir Victor Uwaifo's own. |
sexdoll:Lol. You don't expect me to like who you like na. We are two different persons and we are bound to like different specs |
sexdoll:Lol, I no get oooo. By the way, i no talk i no like BBW. But she must look well, have curves in the right place. I like all type of girl so long they have a bit of curves and fletch I can hold and play with but must not be shapeless and wowo like that gh girl right there. |
sexdoll: you funny die. I salute you. Well done sir... ![]() |
sexdoll:Brother na wa for you oooo. God forbid I Bleep with such. I'm surprised she looks beautiful to you. Yes one man's meet is another's poison though. There are girl that are robust and BBW and look more presentable and sexy. This one is just shapeless hahahahahaha. |
y3mi:Oga I never said there's only one God. But the one I know that is genuine is the Almighty God. The rest are powerless and i careless about them all. Yes the rest are inferior and fake, believe what you want to believe as you can never sell your belief to me cos I won't buy it. Thank you. |
alfredfrddy:Leave it let it be for re-election. it still a win win situation for the country. We the citizen have nothing to loose but plenty to gain. Cos when they leave office the project will be utilize by us, if those that stole our money develop too e for make brain at least. |
kolaaderin:Buhari got my vote and support too comes 2019. Those that says they did this due to elections, even if so, we the citizen has nothing to loose, its still our gain. All govt owe it citizens basic infrastructures and none of them is using their personal money to build, whether APC or PDP. But how many projects does GEJ initiated and completed when election was approaching? |
GavelSlam:leave that dude, its obvious he does not know what he is talking about. He seems he is not aware of what has been going on in Nigeria of late. When does Buhari rejects loan, if you hate someone don't mean you will lie against his person. Senate rejected that loan, and Buhari wrote National Assembly regarding that loan. |
alfredfrddy:na lie jor. They've been at most rail project before now. They even completed the one in Abuja since, not now... it was initiated by GEJ and yet they put party sentiments aside and proceeded to complete it. And its been functional ever since for commercial purpose. Go do your research to know when it was actually completed before you say its cos of election, its been completed since...we should not be politicizing everything. even if they do it for election is their loss and we the citizens gain. |
Chinapepe:Revive my foot. na who complete project do the real work no be who initiated it and moreso him no complete am during his era. ![]() |
seunmsg:No mind those fools. That one wey dey initiate project e no dey ever complete am. he spent 6 years and still a lot of incomplete projects. And now Buhari just 3 years... shame on PDP.... Buhari is not perfect though, have shortcomings too we know, but PDP deserves to be stoned. |
