There is always so much focus on women's fashion, but the gender that really needs the style help is men. Some men know how to dress, but there are a number of trends in male "fashion" that are just not cutting it. Here are few of highlighted fashion blunder by men I see around:

1. Clothes that don’t fit – Overly baggy clothes will make you look you’re wearing sloppy hand-me-downs. If your body type makes it hard to find well-fitting clothes off the rack, make your tailor your best friend.

2. Wearing a short sleeve shirt with a tie – Unless you work for a fast-food joint – where sleeves get dirty making sandwiches – avoid wearing a short sleeve shirt with a tie. They are generally perceived as lower class apparel. If you want to stay looking professional and confident, stick to long-sleeve shirts when wearing ties.

3. Dirty shoes – It’s an area that too many guys overlook in terms of cleaning and proper care. A stylish man keeps his shoes clean – free of scratches and dirt.

4. Improper trousers length – Don’t fold up your jeans or your chinos unless it’s an intentional fashion statement that you’re making. Your trousers can come down to the bottom of your shoes but make sure they come just above the floor to avoid any unwanted fraying. Also, you only need a slight break, or crease, in the trousers leg. Don’t be the guy who has his feet swimming in a bunch of extra fabric. All it takes is a simple trip to the tailor to get them hemmed.

5. Wrong socks with a suit – When you’re wearing a suit, match your sock color to your trousers, not your shoes (for professional and formal occasions). This is the same as mismatching your suit trousers to your jacket. If you’re wearing a navy suit with black shoes, reach for navy socks. And when wearing a light suit, make sure the socks are darker than the suit but a shade or so lighter than the shoes. This rule of course can be broken if done deliberately for your style’s sake.

6. MISMATCHED BELT AND SHOES – If you’re wearing corporate shoes, make sure the color of your belt matches the color of your corporate shoes (for professional occasions). Also, the finish of the belt and shoes need to match. In other words, if your shoes are shiny, your belt should be shiny as well. If you’re wearing casual shoes or sneakers, make sure you wear a thicker casual belt to match instead of a thin corporate belt.

7. Improper tie length – A man’s tie should always end at the center of his belt buckle. A simple touch overlooked by many. Having a tie that’s too short or too long, can make a man look incompetent.

8. Being too “buttoned” up – If a jacket has two buttons, only fasten the top button. If it has three buttons, you can close the top button only, the middle button only, or both the middle and top button. The key is to always leave the bottom button undone. This is a tradition that has been used for decades, and will keep your style looking smart.


9. Socks and sandals – Have you seen anyone ever pull this off, and look sexy? Case closed.

There are thousands of Businesses being set up every day in Nigeria by individuals, companies and associations. Setting up a business is the first step towards being an entrepreneur and owning a highly successful venture. Setting up a business requires that you follow these steps.

What type of Business

Deciding what type of business you wish to go into is the first tough decision you have to make. A lot of people often find it difficult to settle into a particular type of business as they often find themselves clogged by multiple ideas. If you however, wish to start a business then it is important that you quickly decide on the type of business you want to do. It is also important to decide early as several businesses operate under a legal and regulatory frameworks that may require further stringent rules before registering.

Do you need partners or wish to start solo?

The next decision you should be making is whether you want to fly solo with your business or if you need a partner. Whilst most entrepreneurs do not require any partners or shareholders to start their businesses, there are some businesses that may require unique expertise that you may not have. Even if you decide to start solo nothing stops you from adding new partners or shareholders in future.

What is the legal form of the business?

A business can take so many legal forms. It can either be a sole proprietorship, a partnership or a limited liability company. It can also be a company Limited by Guarantee (NGO) or a non for profit business. Each form operates under a unique legal framework and tax jurisdictions. For example, if you want to start a business and do not want any shareholder or partner then a Sole Proprietorship may just be the right way to go. With a Sole Proprietorship you do not need a shareholder and your tax jurisdiction will be with the state government where you reside. Sole proprietorship also do not have the acronym “Ltd” after their business names.

How much capital do you have?

Starting a business also requires some form of capital. If your business is one that you want registered then you will have to set aside some cash for the incorporation of your company. Do you have a business name?

The next thing on the plate will be a business name. A business name is important for any form of business that you want to venture into. For your business name to be registered it will have to be unique to you at least within the same industry. As such before you get a business name you will have to run a search in the website of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) or go through your lawyer. Once the name is approved you can pay to reserve it.

What is your registered address?

Part of the requirements to fill during your application to the CAC will be the registered address of the company. The registered address is the official address of your company and will also likely be the basis for deciding your place of residence by the tax authorities.

Get a lawyer & Register your company

With all of the above in place already, you can get ready to meet your lawyer. Hand the documents over the lawyer along with the fees. Your company should be registered within days if it is not for a company limited by guarantee.


Get a logo

Once your company in registered you should start thinking about branding and publicity. Get a catchy logo for your company and make sure it is in every material or thing that represents your business. With a good logo your brand can be immensely boosted.

Get a stamp and a seal

Every business MUST have a legal stamp and seal which is unique to it. Seals in particular will come in handy when the filling application forms or signing important contractual documents for your business

Get a letter head

A letter head is the official piece of paper used by the company to communicate official messages or information to third parties. Your letter head will include logo, company address and name as well as the board of directors.

Open a Bank account

Once your company is registered, you should take the incorporation documents to a commercial bank and have them open a corporate account for you. Corporate accounts can sometimes take time to be open, however banks are more efficient at opening one and should not take more than 48 hours.

Get a TIN Number

A TIN is a Tax Identity Number for individuals and corporate organisations. New businesses can easily obtain a Tin from the local branch of the tax office where the registered business is located. Without a TIN it can be difficult to get contracts or get deals from the private or public sector. It can also mean that the company is not tax compliance resulting in potential tax liabilities.

Get a website & social media account

Now that your business has been registered, the next thing to do is to have a website for it. Your website and social media handles help give your businesses the much needed visibility it requires to flourish. Your web accounts will also help you set up your official email and those of your staff.

The blogging arena is now being populated. More people are becoming bloggers everyday. Most people are into blogging because they want to make quick money and buy their own Banana Island mansion. lol. So they just rush into it and start copy and pasting. Blogging is more than that. Don't believe otherwise.

Not choosing the right niche is the biggest mistake starters make. Have you ever felt like giving up on your blog? That's probably because you chose the wrong niche. You should be passionate about what you've chosen to write/blog about.



Though, it is true that your chosen niche is something you're passionate about, something you have a wide knowledge about, but you should know that some niche monetize better than others. Yes monetization should be part of your consideration in choosing a niche.

How then do you choose a niche?

How do you know which one is best for you? Read on.

Ask yourself these 3 questions before choosing a niche.

Everyone has things they love. It may be pets, gardening, cycling, painting, taking pictures (creative pictures) etc.

Just find that particular thing you're interested in and have a wide knowledge about. If you're interested in personal fitness, you know a lot of exercises to keep people fit or you can train people on how to keep fit. Then you have your niche. Asking yourself this first question, you should have a few niches to choose from unless you're not interested in anything, which i don't think is possible.

You are writing for people to read them, so it is very important to know if people are interested in the topic or not.

let's say for example, you're interested in circling, you love riding bicycle, you know all about the technical aspect, the chains, tires, pedals, and you can write very well about them. Now tell me, you think Nigerians are interested? You think you'll get visitors? I don't think so. maybe one or two.

So knowing people's interests is a vital consideration in choosing a niche.

You can use Google Adwords keyword planner to do a research on how much people are interested in a keyword related to your niche. I'll be writing more on that in my next post. Watch out!!!

This one is very important if you plan to make money from your blog which I think everybody does including me.

If anything can be bought related to your niche, then you can make money from your blog. i.e If you're a tech blogger, tech products are related to your niche and can be bought online. If you're a health blogger, health products are related to your niche and can be bought online. If you're a fashion blogger, cloths, shoes, bags and many fashion products are related to your niche and can be bought online.

You'll be able to find an affiliate program where these things can be bought from. You can join Konga Affiliate Program or Jumia Affiliate Program. There are also few affiliate programs that accepts Nigerians. Amazon is one of them.

Contrary to what people think, these foods are readily available to the common man in Nigeria and most times cheap as hell. Naming of brands was avoided, so as not to be accused of picking on a particular company

1. “Soft Drinks” - Coke, Fanta, Sprite, Pepsi, Malt drinks.

2. Processed meats - Gala and the different variants of it cost about N100, not to talk of sausage rolls, meat pies, scotch eggs, etc.

Also fruit juice of any kind is included in this category. Some might contain natural juices but most are packed with sugar, artificial flavourings and preservatives. When next you think you are going for the healthy option by buying a pack of fuit juice, read the label first to see what you are actually consuming.

I write to you great thinkers, I write to you students whose mindset is different from just coming to school to acquire certificates and become an employee but rather to become employers and great entrepreneurs.

Some great men never had this opportunities we are having today, yet they still come out successful in life. During the early days of Bill Gates struggling as a poor young boy, there was never anything like whatsapp, facebook, google etc yet he still comes out to rule the world as the richest man on earth as I write.

How did he do it? What did he do differently? Nothing my brothers and sisters, he only thinks differently. According to Brian Tracy, he said;"the difference betweeen the rich and the poor is their "thinking". There is a great POWER in that thing called "THINKING".

Bill Gates was a great thinker, despite the fact that he did not have access to what we all have access to today, yet he made use of what was available around him then, and see where he is today.

When people like Warren Buffet. Carlos Slim Helu, Dangote, Bill Gates are talking, a PHd Holder will fold back his arm and bow. Not because they are rich but because they think differently right from the early ours of their lives.

Are you a great thinker? The answer lies within your instinct and belief about life. If all you want to do is to go to school, acquire certificates and start working as an employee for a company or you want to be on top of the game, employ people, create businesses instead of depending on the government to provide jobs for you. It all depends on your thinking Sir/Ma.

Do you know we have more opportunities and better potentials to succeed financially even more than the people mentioned above? Today, we have google, whatsapp, twitter etc all on our palm. None of them ever had access to this platforms.

Mind you, this so called opportunity can either turn out to be a fortune or adversity for anyone depending on how we make use of it. How are you taking advantage of the opprtunties created by google, whatsapp, twitter, are you using them to add value to yourself or devalue yourself.

Success in life is far away from merely having a certificate, it depends on the kind of SKILLS you have, your ability to solve problems, your zeal to identify opportunities around you and use them to your advantage.

Be a great thinker. What you become tomorrow, is the product of your imagination.

As an international Recruiter,
I have noticed some things that hinder my recruitment in Nigeria, it is heart breaking when someone comes to me and says I'm relocating to the USA or Canada or wherever, what placement can you get for me and just by chatting with the person, I know that it will have to be a menial job despite the diplomas and degrees.
There is a reason why I have Recruited over 50 expatriates from some unimaginable countries into Nigeria where they got perks like:
3 bedroom furnished apartment in the Lekki area a few bus stops away from the company
2 domestic staffs to do the cleaning, cooking and driving.
Comprehensive health insurance
Approx. 10M annual salary
28 working days paid vacation
3 working days paid leave
Approx 3M in other allowances
Return annual paid tickets to their home country annually
In some cases a lesser paying job for the spouse is guaranteed.

I have facilitated the purchase of some Multi Million houses which Companies bought for their expatriate staffs. The minimum being 700M for 20 units of 3 bedroom flats, and some up to 2 Billion just for these expatriates.

You must be thinking why, below are some of the reasons in my opinion.
1. Education
Our universities don't help matters, they split one course into 3 units for students to study and graduate and use 20 years old techniques / syllabus to teach. As a result, fresh Nigerian graduates and even West African graduates can not stand fresh graduates from other parts of the world until they have experience or go for more classes. I begin to ask, what is the craze to get admission and graduate for?

2. Lack of seriousness on the part of the students
As if that isnt enough, many of their results were bought in the sense that in a new setting, they can't defend this result. A Bsc Econs holder couldn't pass an exam to place her in a 200level equivalent in the USA. While in school, a lot of them joined cults and turned to private prostitutes just to get the good grades. News Flash!!! Recruiters are fully aware and can't be deceived.

3. Inability to speak good English
What breaks my heart now is that many of them can't speak good English. They are well educated in the best schools but nothing to show for it. If that cert. goes missing today, and they have the opportunity to write another exam to receive a new result, 80% won't pass. Yes, English isn't our mother tongue but when you want a job in a company where English language is spoken, you have to speak English too. Your command of English is highly important. It can speak a lot about you even before you present your certs.

4. Greed
Now, once in a while, I see a graduate who has ticked all the wrong boxes still forming "I know my worth and wont settle for less". I'll simply tell you to call me next week as that's when I'll be recruiting for the big fishes and that will be the end. The bad part of these incompetence is that you never know you have them. Hence, there's nothing to lower those over inflated egos.

5. Nonchalant attitude
Some feel once they have gotten their certs esp. the 1st class and 2nd class upper, they have tried abeg. Cut them some slack, give them a break. But they don't understand that its just the beginning. You must seek more exposure by all means. Keep reading, keep find ways to polish your trophy, keep learning from those who are there.
For example; I can say, 90% of graduates, cant write a standard cover letter, 85% cant write a standard Resume / CV. My mum looked at an applicants cv one day, laughed and said, My CV was as naive as this when I applied for my first job. Meaning, that CV was in vogue in the 1970's!!! I'll talk more on the CV later.

6. Unrealistic desires
Okay, we all know you didn't spend years in the Uni for nothing. You didn't go to Boko Haram infested areas during your service for nothing etc. But baby, its time to wake up! Life isn't rosy anymore. There is tight competition out there. There are over 2000 people better than you graduating every year. The best tool you have when job hunting is experience. I daresay experience is more valuable than degrees in some cases. Start where you are as long as i can recharge your phone, transport you to and from work and pay your basic bills, it will be worth it.
Learn from Dami:
Dami (not real name) ticked 3 wrong boxes and due to the strict requirement, could never see the light of the job. What did Dami do?
He wrote a new application letter volunteering to work for free only asking to be allowed to benefit from the Company's transport as he lives far. 2 years later, Dami got a job in that company as an Assistant Mgr.

7. Lack of Packaging
You are a brand, you wish to be the face of a company, how can you sell the company in a good image if you can't sell yourself? Start with your CV and cover letter.
I don't care where you are from unless the job specifically asked for candidates from a particular region. telling me you have an experience as a waiter in a 7* hotel when applying for the post of a teacher will make me shove your resume in the bin.

Rather than pay the company, I know most decent companies may see that as exploiting, I suggest you offer to work without pay. At least with that you only need to finance your transportation and feeding for the period

I have a first hand experience of these. Years ago while studying to be a medical laboratory scientists, during breaks I approach big hospitals and laboratory to work without pay.

The first lab I worked did not give me any pay but the experience I gather so assisted me in my education I got an academic award plus good grades.

After my education while waiting for NYSC, I approached a bigger hospital and quoted my experience from the other lab, I was given a temp job with no salary, but little allowance, free lunch tickets and I got free ride from work by joining other staffs or company bus.

Try this and you will get the skill, experience and ultimately the Job.

How will it be if you have a degree in Education and you approach a school to teach without pay?
A degree in business or accounting and you approach an audit firm or organization?
Etc
