Health › Re: Governor Ganduje Inspects Kwanar Dawaki Hospital by GreenArrow1(m): 5:27pm On Feb 11, 2020 |
Gnaeusmagnus: It's all very nice...but there is a problem
The issue is, how would the funding for the continued maintenance of the hospital be sourced??
The money we earn from oil, even when prices are high, is not enough to keep this hopsital well funded...and don't talk about agriculture...because most farming in Nigeria is subsitence, and less than 10% of our farming is mechanised...so there is no way we can compete with the agricultural powerhouses in Europe and elsewhere....
So, either Kano state people pay higher taxes down the road, or pay higher hospital bills, or watch as the hospital equipment breaks down because there is not enough money to fix things.
The UK spends 130 billion pounds on health annually. Nigeria spends less than 3 billion on health. And the UK has that money because they don't rely only on oil. They rely on industry and innovation. Here in Nigeria, we rely on sharing money. Instead of industry and innovation. Even the cry for restructuring is not a cry for developmet...it is a cry for more money to chop. If you know the IGR of Kano city alone (not to talk of the entire state), you wouldn't be typing this long grammar. |

In 2023 if anybody comes to tell you to vote ElRufai make sure you stone them immediately , in just 4 years the man has allowed Kaduna state degenerate into Fallujah like status . Just see below how many people where kidnapped in that state in just January making Kaduna state the kidnap capital of the whole world The statistic for Benue is false please! At least that one I know. That further casts doubts on all the other small figures I'm seeing there. Kidnapping is too rampant now to have states experiencing only 1 case in a whole month. Agreed, Kaduna still tops the list by a considerable margin. |

myobjective: Makurdi is not that far from the east my friend, in fact, makurdi and Benue is geographically eastern Nigeria.
People are mixing things up, using northern artisans and labourer is different from giving northern own companies all the work You are missing the point. You are arguing based on a federal university contract awarded to a "Northen company" (whatever that means) in the East. I'm also pointing to a project in the North being executed by a Southern company. I worked for an Igbo sub-contractor handling one of the two arms of construction work. He wasn't a qualified construction professional and hence needed my professional certs and technical know-how as regards execution. These things happen all over the country and giving it an ethnic coloration for the purposes of winning arguments just serves only one purpose - to win online arguments. Nothing more. That's a disservice to those who would want to see the current status-quo changed. During the GEJ era, we worked in the Niger - Delta on many government projects. Awarded to who? Unqualified individuals who were being settled for political reasons and who did they sublet those contracts to after collecting their profit? Firms who offered the cheapest prices be they from the North or Taiwan! Open your eyes, it's all about the money. That's the cost of Nigeria's democracy. Don't make it about tribe! |

oyatz: Nairaland is a faceless forum. Some guys that haven't even bought a plot of land will be giving expert opinions on massive construction contracts.
I just completed a personal housing project in my hometown in Osun State.
I deeply regretted the parts that I gave to local artisans to do.
One guy collected my money for digging soakaway pit, dug like 1.5 meters and disappeared.
Even in my hometown, I had to go to Sabo and recruited Ayuba Takai and Danladi (both from Kano State) to complete the digging of soak away and waste pits. Many manual jobs were reassigned to these Hausa labourers.
They don't resume for work until around 10:00 am and they like to close by 5:00pm and will be expecting daily payment.
Some days, they may not even come giving silly excuses that they went for chieftaincy meetings or there were ceremonies in town for them to attend.
They will force you to work at their own pace (slow and more expensive) because they are in their own town, they are never in a hurry to meet any target. They don't live in rented apartments, their foods are mostly sourced locally and their costs of living is very low.
Above all, they are also part-time farmers. They will use your time to go to farms and only come for your work at THEIR convinient time. You get the point. |

edoairways: That is one problem using host community to execute a project Exactly! Mostly, when people call me for projects in other states, they, the clients usually end the call with an emphasis that I come with my entire team of workers to ensure a hitch-free execution. They usually say, these our boys are not serious and might cause you problems. I laugh because I hear that same statement regardless of any region I'm being summoned to. |

They don't know why they post us outside our comfort zones to go and work. Is it not Igbo men and firms who are executing the massive green energy project at University of Agriculture Makurdi? Worked there briefly before leaving so I know what I'm talking about. Did anyone die or cry blue murder? |

RZArecta: I triple dare you to prove me wrong, no easterner can get ANY construction contract in a Fed Northern university talk less of shipping entire labor force from east to the north. The ethnic bigot here is most likely you sir So, apart from ranting on Nairaland where No One in a position to properly address your current misgivings is reading what you are saying, what are you gonna do about it? Just remaining a little part of the wheel in the e-machine promoting online hate in the country? You think contracts like these are awarded at traditional council meetings? I'm currently executing a federal government contract in the middle belt, which (in your own words have been awarded to a Yoruba firm). I have never come online to come and cry that my parent contracting firm are not from the middle belt. Federal government contracts are bid for and awarded accordingly at Abuja and not based on tribe but on competency and the Nigerian factor of kick-backs. I have a few colleagues of Eastern and Southern extraction who work for bosses of same extraction that have or are currently executing projects in different parts of the country. Lastly, yes, everyone uses abokis for construction work. No vex, they are ready and willing to work for reasonable pay with less qualms. It's always better to use imported Labour for big projects in this country where people like you are ever ready to play the "na my place be this" card. Better for the contractor, better for project delivery, better for the client. Drink some water. |
