Politics › Death Toll Now 15 In Boko Haram Raid On Nigeria Army by greenermodels(op): 6:34pm On Oct 27, 2017 |
Seven more bodies have been found after a Boko Haram raid on a military camp in northeast Nigeria, a security source told AFP on Friday. Militant fighters stormed the base at Sasawa village, some 45 kilometres from the Yobe state capital, Damaturu, on Tuesday, in the third such attack on the military in two weeks. The Nigerian Army has confirmed the attack and said only there were “casualties on both sides”. But a military source said: “So far, 15 bodies of soldiers killed in the attack at Sasawa have been recovered, including that of an officer. “Seven more bodies were found in the course of search and rescue operations by 27 Brigade and 233 Battalion. More (soldiers) are still missing and their fate is unknown.” The source, who asked not to be identified as he was not authorised to talk to the media, said Boko Haram fighters took away two pick-up trucks equipped with anti-aircraft guns. According to the SITE Intelligence Group, the raid was claimed by the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP). That indicates fighters loyal to Abu Mus’ab al-Barnawi were responsible. IS designated al-Barnawi leader of the group last year instead of long-time figurehead Abubakar Shekau. The al-Barnawi faction is known to have been operating just across the border in Borno state and has been blamed for a number of similar raids. In July, 19 soldiers and 33 militia members were among 69 killed in a Boko Haram attack on a heavily armed convoy of oil exploration workers in the Magumeri area of Borno. Tuesday’s attack in Yobe also saw Boko Haram fighters seize grain from food stores in the village after a six-hour firefight with troops. Security analysts have suggested the increase in attacks on military posts is linked to the end of the rainy season plus the need to restock depleted supplies of food and weapons. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/10/death-toll-now-15-boko-haram-raid-nigeria-army/ |

Politics › Ijaw Youth Council Speaks Against The Security Forces On The Igbo Quit Notice by greenermodels(op): 4:35am On Jun 27, 2017 |
[ @obiorah: ] [justify][justify]- Ijaw Youth council has berated Nigerian security over non-arrest of Arewa youths who gave notice to Igbos resident in the northern states
- The IYC says the action of the security agencies was wrong saying if youths in the south had made such statements, they would have landed in detention
- The group called on security agencies to live up to their billings in the discharge of their security assignments to Nigerians
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has berated the Nigerian security agencies over the preferential treatment given to Arewa youths in the handling of youth restiveness in the country. President of the IYC, Eric Omare, in a statement mailed to NAIJ.com, said the Nigerian soldiers and police are treating with kids glove the threat issued by youths of the Northern extraction, noting that their silence smacks off irresponsibility of their part.
Omare said the Arewa youths quit notice to Igbos living in the north to vacate the zone by October 1, 2017 amounted to grave threat to national security and the indivisibility of the country. Quit notice: IYC takes Nigerian security to the cleaners over non-arrest of Arewa youths He, however, said the relevant security agencies have deliberately kept a deaf ear to the security threat posed by the Arewa youths, describing the notice as treasonable offense.
Omare said: “The IYC is sure that if similar threats had been issued by youths from other parts of the country, especially the Niger Delta region, communities such as Kaiama, Okerenkoko, Warri, Yenagoa and indeed the entire Niger Delta region would have been under security siege. “We totally and in strongest words condemn this double standard by the Nigeria security agencies. It is totally unacceptable for security agencies to apply double standard in response to security threats in different parts of the country. “The standard applied to youth groups and agitators in the south should also be applied to same class of people from the north. “The questionable position of the security agencies indicates that some very powerful persons in the north and the federal government are behind the Arewa youths.
"This fact has already been confirmed by Arewa Youth leader, Yerima Shettima who said that their leaders are behind them.” According to him, the IYC is confident that if Yerima Shettima and his co-travellers were to be Niger Deltans, they would have been behind bars now. He said it is on record that Niger Delta activists such as Daniel Ezekiel, Jones Abiri and others are still in detention without trial for mere allegations of threat to national security.
He faulted the silence of the Nigerian security, calling on them to rise above politics and stop the double standard in the performance of their duties. He said the Arewa youth leaders who issued the treasonable quit notice to Igbos in the north should be made to account for their actions to avoid unnecessary loss of lives and properties as a result of their quit notice.

specco: Do you ever think that a Yoruba man can become the president of Nigeria again through the ballot box after betraying the SE and SS during the last general elections that brought Buhari? No SE or SS person will give their vote to a SW candidate again. In the event of an Northerner and a SW man vying for Aso rock seat, surely the SS & SE will vote for the Northerner. Hausa/Fulanis all the way. in 2019,every northern candidate would be picking an igbo running mate but since tinubu have indicated interest and is a Muslim, who would he pick with the ss & se angry at him, he has been shortchanged by the north and they're going to cage him completely by 2019,awolowo played the same game with them during the war and the igbos punished him by denying him the vote to achieve his lifelong dream of presidency, he was eventually betrayed by the Yoruba and committed suicide. the present day Yoruba led by tinubu is following the same line of self destruction out of their greed and tendency to betray easily. |

salam1: but in a modern society its okay for a Igbo to call a whole country zoo and also to call some certain people parasites ryt? is it a crime? it's only a savage that would stab with a dagger for calling him a parasite, Catalonia and Quebec have called their countries that name and more.blacks routinely call whites"crackers and pale skins"on tv and nobody have been extrajudicially killed by soldiers for that. |

modern societies would organise a referendum and try to win it free and fair to the favour of remaining united as the British did in both Scotland and brexit, using threats of war, mass arrests, refusal of court orders, mass killings etc should have no place in any modern society. |

Dreambeat: Who are these bunch of clowns substituting Biafra call for Igbo president.Igbo president is NOT the solution to the myriad of problems bedeviling the Igbo nation. It should NEVER be used as a baggaining chip.Igbo presidency being advocated by the same political elites who destroyed Nigeria. Those calling for the Igbo president are actually the Hausa/Fulanis and their stooges in the SE who are looking for ways to water down the Biafra agitation and placate the feeling of Igbos. This will not work because Igbos are wiser than this and understand this game plan.Igbos need a country where freedom, equity and justice is guaranteed.A country were excellence and hard work are rewarded.A country with a constitution created and ratified by the citizens. +1000 likes. |

GoroTango: Since its highly unlikely for a president of igbo extraction to be elected in 2019, why wait for 2020 to push the self destruct Biafra button? What these groups are saying amounts to outright blackmail. Their message is: Its either you elect an igbo president at the next polls or we secede. Fellow Nigerians do we give in? Nnamdi Kanu gave an interview a few days ago where he maintained that ipob is not interested in any electioneering and called for boycotting of all future elections. that nairaland biased moderators refused to push it to the front-page shows the lack of objectivity here. |
