I sense that the validity date will be shifted again. Really saddening that there isn't any room to pay the fee in USD.

I lent someone #1.2 million naira in January 2023 and the person is yet to refund a dime as at now.
He keeps saying that things are really tough for him.
I do not see myself lending someone money again as from 2024 .

I will only gift according to my capacity.

Travel9 Nigerian Stowaways Rescued From Drowning In Gambia by Grit2943(op): 7:11am On Dec 06, 2023
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos Command, on Tuesday, received nine Nigerians who attempted to stowaway to Europe through The Gambia.

The stowaways who said they regret their action, claimed they were lured into the voyage by some of their friends who were lucky to make it to Europe through the same path.

It was gathered that the young Nigerian adults with the age range 21 to 30, attempted to travel to Europe through The Gambia sea, but they were spotted by the ship captain who immediately alerted the security agencies of the neighbouring country.

This is as Adekola Adesokan, the Comptroller, NIS, MMIA Command, has advised Nigerians, especially against irregular travels to Europe, describing such as a deathtrap.

It was learnt that in a bid to escape arrest, the stowaways jumped into the high sea with two of them struggling to swim.

They were eventually rescued from drowning and taken to the Nigeria High Commission in The Gambia who immediately processed emergency travel documents for them to be repatriated to Nigeria, despite their reluctance to return into the country.

The stowaways were brought back to Nigeria through the Asky Airlines with the registration number: via Lome, Togo.

Adesokan, in an interview with aviation journalists, lamented the incessant stowaway incidents among Nigerians and admonished them against it.

According to her, such a trip was a deathtrap waiting to happen, regretting that many Nigerians had lost their lives through such means in the past.

She explained that the nine stowaways were handed over to the MMIA Command by the officials of the Gambian immigration service.

She said: “About nine Nigerians were sent back from The Gambian immigration officers for attempted stowaway in the high sea and two of them almost lost their lives in the process because when they were discovered, they attempted to escape and jumped into the high sea. Unfortunately for them, two of them could not swim.

“The captain of the ship had to get in touch with the country that is within the neighbourhood for the rescue mission. The security officers were able to quickly rescue them, put them in the boat and took them to a hotel where they were given food.

“But, they were very resistant and refused to return to Nigeria. In fact, they were still demanding money from the immigration service there before they could return to Nigeria. They were eventually taken to the Nigeria High Commission in The Gambia, which persuaded them and issued them emergency travel documents for them to be able to be brought back to Nigeria through the MMIA.”

She also appealed to such irregular travelers to desist from it and follow the right channel of travels to any country of their choice.

“We need to change our mentality. When they get there illegally, the first thing is they will begin to hide and when they are caught, they will be deported. Even when they are not caught, they go there to do odd jobs that they cannot be proud of doing to their friends and family members.

They should look before they leap. Most of the time, it may be a journey of no return. I am not saying you can’t travel abroad, but, go there legally, read your books, apply it in the right way, apply to travel and go and showcase Nigeria as a very intelligent nation in the comity of nations,” she said.

In his statement, Abdul Yakubu, one of the stowaways, alleged that he was selling noodles and dried eggs on Lagos island before he was cajoled to embark on the trip.

He alleged that he lost N70,000, which he paid to the man who introduced and boarded him on the ship.

Daniel Vincent, another member of the returnees, said he thought he would have been in Europe after three days of the trip.

Vincent said he was shocked to realise that he had not left the shore of Africa when they were detected by the crew members of the ship and handed over to immigration in The Gambia.

“They told us we would be in Europe within five or six days. We didn’t carry any food or water with us when we boarded the ship at Tin Can Port in Lagos. It was a very regrettable experience I would not encourage even my enemies to embark upon,” he said.

A boat driver, who declined to give his name, claimed he had once embarked on an unsuccessful trip as a stowaway.

He claimed he was convinced to embark on the journey by a friend who successfully entered Europe through the illegal method.

Good evening everyone. Please I would be traveling from Idiroko in Ogun state tomorrow to Ring road in Benin city, but I don't know how to go about the route.

Does anyone know where I will enter bus/car and where to transit if not straight movement?
Pls I will appreciate every information given as I must go there tomorrow by road.

Must I reach Lagos first or is there any transport company terminal in Idiroko/Sango ota in ogun state that I can enter direct to Benin city?
You have two options namely

1. From Idiroko, take a bus to Sango Ota. Alright at the last bustop which is Sango Ota garage. From there, take a bus to Akure. From Akure, take a bus to Benin.

2. From Idiroko, take a bus to Iyana Ipaja,Lagos. From Iyana Ipaja, take a bus to Benin.

Emekaphilip360:
I don’t really understand this electronic money transfer levy bank charged if you received 5k and above.
Government that’s not doing anything for you is still charging 50 or 100 from your account they have no knowledge what you did to get the money.

Now the question is what are they using the money to do? Imagine #50 or 100 multiply by 50million account or more.
It isn't the banks that get to utilize the money rather it is the CBN.
In addition, what was previously called stamp duty has now been renamed Electronic money transfer levy.

The name change was done as a result of CBN's tussle with NIPOST regarding who should be the custodian of the funds.

Lastly, inflow of #9,999 and below doesn't incur EMT levy charge.

PoliticsOgun Trader Cries Out As Iyaloja Seizes Goods, Dismantles Stall by Grit2943(op):
A trader at Lafenwa Market in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has cried out over the seizure of her wares by the female head of the market, known as the Iyaloja, Alhaja Sidi Owe.

The trader,Adetoun Oyenekan, told newsmen that the Iyaloja had in collaboration with the Babaloja pulled down her stall, leaving her with nothing.

According to Oyenekan, who sells baby toys and stationery, the goods carted away by the market leaders is worth over N1 million.

Speaking in an interview, Oyenekan recounted that the Iyaloja had on Thursday engaged her in a fracas by pushing her.

She explained that the brawl ensued after the market leader slapped her several times and she retaliated.

This incident, she alleged, led to the seizure of her goods and the demolition of her stand in Lafenwa Market.

I was passing by in the market yesterday (Thursday) when the Iyaloja pushed me, I didn’t say anything. She did it the second time and I asked why? I told her to stop acting that way. She started saying all sorts of things.

“The next thing she did was to get a red and white tape to seal off my stall. I protested, I asked her to tell me what I did wrong.

“They carted away my wares worth over one million naira. She slapped me several times and I retaliated. She pulled down my counter. She was supported by the Babaloja,” she narrated.

Oyenekan said she had appealed to the Babaloja and also reported the case to the Gbagura community, but nothing had been done yet.

“I am hungry. I cannot sell anything since yesterday. I am hungry and so are my children. I can’t even send them to school. Please come to my aid,” she cried out.

Contacted, the Iyaloja denied slapping Oyenekan, saying “she was the one who slapped me.”

Our correspondent reports that the Iyaloja did not deny carting away the trader’s wares, saying it was the punishment for assaulting a market head.

Mrs Owe expressed surprise that a market trader could have the effrontery to slap the Iyaloja.

Her words: “I don’t know where a market member would slap the Iyaloja. Everything happened yesterday. The woman doesn’t greet me before now. I was supervising a culvert project at the market when she suddenly pushed me. She pushed me again when I went to meet a friend in the market. Everybody was surprised.

Instead of dragging issues with her, I, as the Iyaloja, went to call the task force to seal off her stall with tape. When they were about to run the tape round her stall, she started cursing the task force, so they stood away. When the task force could not do it, I took the tape, thinking she would fear me a bit. But she pushed me again.

As I was struggling with her, she slapped me. I said should I turn the second ear to you. She said she would slap me again if I turn the second ear to her. I turned the second side to her and everybody rose up, blaming her for what she did. So, we ran the tape to seal off her stand.

I have informed the Iyaloja of Egba and she called the Babaloja. The right punishment for whoever slaps the Iyaloja was applied. Moreover, it has never happened before, and we have rules and regulations in our market.”

Asked about Oyenekan’s goods, the Iyaloja retorted, “If she wants to sue us, she should go to court. The market’s lawyer would respond.”

Mrs Owe was also asked to state what should be done to release the seized goods, she said the woman ought to have organised people to apologise on her behalf.

The Iyaloja emphasised that it was Oyenekan who slapped her and she did not retaliate, saying “let the tears that came out of my eyes when she slapped me judge her if she lied. If she asked you to publicise it, please do; we are ready.

If she kills a cow for the entire market traders, they would eat; but if the entire market traders kill just one cow for her, she would not be able to eat it. Nothing would happen to her and me too.”
