Good morning people.
I need clarification on landed property documents. Do notarized deed of conveyance and irrevocable power of attorney documents suffice?

Thanks in advance.

Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by GucciOluwa: 7:25pm On May 15, 2020
Frankrobbn1:

@GucciOluwa, Please see the comments below as per your enquiry.

1. You can submit the normal account which has adequate funds in it. There is no need submitting your salary account since there is little or no funds saved in there. Pay stubs plays a pivotal role for applicant's who are gainfully employed, it gives the visa officer an overview of your salary structure and tax deductions. So include it as well

2. Speaking from my vast experiences in handling study permit, PNP's and PR applications. I have colleagues that applied for permanent residency, and reading from the GCMS notes they shared with me, I find out that most often the visa officers are not satisfied with mutual funds statement for POF. The mutual funds statement were tagged as RR (Review Required) in their notes. This is simply because the Visa officer thought that the funds in the investment statement is encumbered by debt or other obligations and thus might not be readily accessible by the applicants.

So, I had to advise them (PR applicants) to liquidate the funds in their investment account and deposit it into their account, then raise a CSE to the processing visa centre. Having done what I told them their application moved from Review Required to ELIGIBILITY passed as evidenced in the subsequent GCMS notes they ordered. In view of this and from the wisdom of my experiences, I would suggest you liquidate this investment and provide a brief explanation as to the LIQUIDATION of the investment before the time of application.

3. I don't think it's very necessary to provide explanation to the 10M that will be coming in 3M trenches into your husband's account considering that there have been history of 3M in the account in the last 4-6 months. You only provide explanation if there haven't been any traces of such amount in his account statement.

4. This is a critical situation for you. How do you intend to cope without your husband when you've successfully put to bed in Canada. At this point, it's best you co-apply with your husband but your reasons for applying together shouldn't reflect or talk about your pregnancy. The visa officer might have a wrong impression that you're using study permit as a means to facilitate entry into Canada in order to give birth rather than educational advancement. Ideally, I would prefer you travel to Canada for the winter term. My reasons being that it will be very difficult and so demanding for you as a pregnant woman to adapt with the stringent educational system of Canada considering that you're heavily pregnant and due for delivery in October. More so, given that you're pregnant as at the time of application, you will not be able to undergo an X-ray test during your medical examination, as it can be very dangerous to the unborn baby.

5. You're a resident and a citizen of Nigeria. So, CUAC Ghana office is not applicable to you. I would suggest you use your home country as the country of citizenship and where you're applying from for your study permit.

6. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns as regards your application. Do not hesitate to reach here for professional assistance and/or advise.

Thank you very much @Frankrobbn1. I really appreciate your detailed response.

I will go ahead and liquidate the funds into my account.
~About the CUAC, the Ghana office caters for West African applications. I haven’t began my application yet but honestly, I’m seriously considering it.

~ Is it wise for my husband to apply for a visitor’s visa first or just go ahead and apply for an “F2” visa? (my apologies, I don’t know what it’s called.)

Thanks again. I believe it will end in praise.

Feel free to ask me questions here, and I'll respond as soon as possible. Nonetheless, in my absence, other knowledgeable gurus can render better assistance to your enquiry.

@Frankrobbn1, thank you for your useful insights. I have a few concerns that I would like you and other gurus to please clarify.

1. I work at a reputable and internationally recognized institution but our salaries are paid into a virtual account and I basically transfer to everyone and zerorize the account on payday until the next pay day. Is this the SOA I will be required to submit or can I submit my normal account which is almost in the same state. Lol Abi my payslips will suffice?

2. I have a mutual funds savings that has more than enough to cover my tuition and living expenses, should I liquidate it into my account or just use the mutual funds statement? (Funds are available between 1-3 working days and it is usually stated on the statement.)

3. I am self sponsored and I intend that my husband transfers my tuition and living expenses to my account ASAP and probably pay half of my tuition. Do I need to explain huge inflows into my husband’s account? Say like 10m coming in 3m trenches? Account already has a balance of about that amount. (If I use him as co-sponsor)

4. I am expecting and will be due late oct/Nov. Is it wise to co-apply with my husband or apply alone? I want him to be present for the birth of our child. It’s our first child in 6years.
During my application, do I need to state this?

5. My school (St. Mary’s University) is giving me the option of applying for my visa through CUAC Ghana office. What do you think about this?

6. I know that this is a lot.
I apologize for the epistle.
Thanks everyone.

Good evening everyone.

I need help from the gurus in the house.
My school is giving me the option of processing my visa through CUAC. I don’t have to pay anything as their fee was part of my application fee.

Has anyone heard about them or used them?
Please I need your advice as I have to either accept or decline.

Thanks a lot.

Hello GucciOluwa,

Congrats on your admission. And for the 2.2 thingy, it won't be appropriate to give such advise even in a worst case scenario. Its more like a heads up. Be it as it may, its still not advisable to apply for a Master with a 2.2 especially if;

1. The Interest Letter isn't strong
2. Weak recommendations
3. No professional and categorized written exams
4. The last two years GPA is poor or below average.
5. Work experience

Another important factor to put in mind is the discretion of the graduate committee adopted to consider an application whether it exceeds, meets or not the admission requirements.

It is well-advised for 2.2 applicants to opt for PGD/C or as a backup option to its counterpart. Once again, congratulations.

This is not an attack, I only seized the opportunity to share my standpoints on the subject matter.

One love!

No offense taken.
I just shared my experience and gave hope to people who may need it. Imagine if I assumed it wasn’t possible and didn’t apply....

All I’m saying is if someone can spare the application fee and package a good application, there might just be a chance.

Have a good one.

I just got admitted into St. Mary’s University with a 2.2. 3.0 CGPA to be precise. The requirement was at least 70% in the last 60hrs.

I read the comments of some gurus here but I kept saying to myself “my case is different” and I trusted God.

I’d say if you can spare the application fee, package your SOP and give it a shot. You never know.

I’m really excited and I look forward to guidance from everyone on my visa application.

Stay safe people, it will end in praise.

I cannot help you with the review, I'm sure someone else will do that. I just wanted to say that if the information on the SOP is important, don't whittle it down. Leave it that way. You need all the help you can get to convince the visa officer who would be going through your application. It 4 pages of SOP will get you that application, leave it at 4 pages.

Always remember to go straight to the point and be as concise as possible, no rigmarole.

Good luck.

Good afternoon house.
I have spent the last few days reading through the thread and I have a few questions...
1) I got admitted into two schools but settled for the university of Saskatchewan. Because of my previous two denials for the US F1 visa, I decided to use a representative but now, I feel like it may be a mistake.
2). I’m on a scholarship from an international company that gives scholarships to indigenes of the NDDC. I however printed my statement of account and my wife’s as supporting funds. Does my wife need to write a letter of support?
3) Can someone pleaseeeeee help me review my SOP.
Thanks everyone.
Enjoy the rest of your day!

Good morning house.
It is a sad morning for me, I applied to five schools:
University of Wisconsin- PhD Phil
University of Cincinnati - PhD Phil
University of Connecticut - PhD Phil
Wayne state university -PhD Phil
University at Buffalo - MA/PhD Phil.
I was given admission for MA, university at Buffalo (zero funding ) with an assurance of PhD after one year if my grades are good.
I just received my first rejection from university of Cincinnati and I'm heartbroken.
The fact that I've seen two PhD admissions from university of Wisconsin on gradcafe further complicates my situation.
I'm beginning to regret not applying to more schools.
Does anyone know of schools that are still taking applications?
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: 2018 MWF - YALI by GucciOluwa: 6:11pm On Jan 02, 2018
AkunnaTochi:

Congratulations now that you are
through to this stage.
It says a lot about you to have made
it this far. Now make it count.
This stage is as competitive as the
application stage and you need to
give it you best.
Follow these tips to improve your
chance of making it through:-

1. Master your essays
Your interview will be based on
your application. You need to prove
that you wrote it yourself and that
you are passionate about the
leadership mission you outlined.
Ensure you articulate how you
expect the YALI Mandela
Washington Fellowship to help you
on your path to achieving your
mission. Go through the objectives
of the YALI initiative and ensure
your link your personal motives
with the overall goal of the program.

2.Show that the fellowship will make
a difference for your work
The panelists will like to know why
you want to go on the fellowship
after all there are many similar
opportunities online and within
your country to advance your
mission.
You must therefore state clearly how
going on the fellowship will make a
difference in helping you achieve
your mission. Ensure you articulate
the value you bring on the program-
to your country, your host
institution, your host community
and the cohort you join.

3. Espouse the principles of servant
leadership
Your responses should show that you
are a true servant leader-not one
who is out for himself alone.
How do you intend to ensure that
others benefit from you going on the
fellowship? How are you currently
organizing your work to benefit
others in your community? If you
are not consumed with passion
about serving the weak in your
community, you cannot be a
Mandela Washington Fellow.

4. Show interview etiquette
Dress like a leader. Ensure you
maintain eye contact and hand
shake firmly. Take your seat only
when offered and be polite. Master
the names of the panelists-better
you write them down when they
introduce themselves and refer to
them by their first names through
your conversations.
Show confidence through your
voice-project and sit up on your
seat. When leaving say thank you
with a smile and a slight bow and
gently close the door behind you.
Stay smiling all through.

5. Engage and be engaging
Maintain the conversation. Be a
pleasure to talk with and ensure you
ask at least an intelligent question
especially as the interview draws to
an end.

Note that your panelists will be
experts in your track and your
questions can serve to show the
value you will bring on the study
part of the fellowship .

The greatest leaders are those who
ask the most thought provoking
questions and who are humble
enough to seek answers from others.

I look forward to welcoming you
as a Mandela Washington Fellow.

Godspeed!

Guys, I got that from a blog and I hope it helps. Kindly wish me luck too. I'm yet to receive an invite.

Thanks dear. God's favour

I have read on this forum were people that bought tickets from wakanow were able to change their dates and add baby without much hassle ,i have also read were some found it very expensive to change dates,so what i would advice you to do is either call them or go to their office and tell them your concerns and make your decision after speaking with them.

Good morning house. Please has anyone booked their flight through travelstart before? Did you encounter any challenge (esp as regards date change)? I called airfrance and also checked their site, tickets to Minneapolis are 800k plus but on travelstart and wakanow it's a little above 500k.
I booked my flight months ago to fly with Turkish airlines but I intend to leave earlier and the present fare difference is over 300k so I want to cancel and book airfrance.
Kindly respond.

It's good you are rewriting the test. Now ,you have approximately two months to study. I would advise you watch the Magoosh premium video to understand maths operations that are necessary to ace the quant section. Then you try solving questions in the ets official guide for quant-- do not forget to read explanation to solutions at the end of each practise set.

For verbal, Magoosh video on verbal reasoning is also okay for this section. Download Magoosh GRE flashcard to learn common GRE words and Magoosh vocabulary builder to understand how the words are used in context. Quizlet will let you create custom vocab list for words you get from articles in Nytimes,Economists or RC passages. Then solve question on the ets official guide for verbal reasoning.

Other useful materials are, Cracking the GRE (Princeton review), Manhattan 5lb book, Kaplan 2017 is okay for beginners; their AWA section is very good,if you want to jump start writing Analytic essays. Experiment with the concepts and questions in these materials, you will surely get the material that suit your kind of person. As a reminder, do not overlook ets official guide for quant and verbal. Goodluck

Thank you very much. I really appreciate.

It's good that you are considering re-writing. A lot of tips have been given on this forum and they all have something in common- practice and more practice (with the right materials- ETS and Manhattan are the best IMO).
