Agriculture / How To Clean Eggs - Managing Dirty Eggs by guidefreak(m): 12:48am On Oct 18, 2019
[img][/img]How to clean eggs is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of dirty eggs. Of course, no one wants to cook an egg that is soiled with chicken poop. Whether it is coming from your farm or from an unknown farm, you just want your egg clean at all times. There is a long debate on whether eggs should be washed before storing them or not. This is why you must be sure before you remove your egg bloom. I will keep it simple and straight to the point in this article. We sometimes encounter eggs that are not clean so my aim is to show you how to clean eggs or manage dirty ones.

Some Reasons for Dirty Eggs

1. Delay between laying time and egg collection time (especially in deep litter)
2. Blood stain on eggs as a result of large size or tight vent
3. Poor management from collection site to point of sale
4. Egg yolk from a broken egg may have dried on your eggs

So, is it right to wash your eggs? Yes. But the question is when and how.
In order to decide whether to wash your eggs, you need to understand why it might be dangerous to wash your eggs.

Dangers of Washing Eggs

1. You Break The Egg Bloom: When an egg is laid, it comes coated with a protective outermost layer called the egg bloom or cuticle which seals the pores on the eggshell. This egg bloom is easily removed upon washing, and when it happens, it means that the egg’s natural protection is gone.
2. You Invite Dangerous Microorganisms: Once the bloom of an eggs is out of place, the egg is said to be vulnerable. It becomes easier for microorganisms to penetrate the pores of the eggshell into the egg and grow. Organisms like Coli and Salmonella can be dangerous to humans and are commonly found in chicken faeces/poop that is sometimes found on eggs
3. Washed Eggs May Become Unsafe: If Salmonella finds its way into an egg in the absence of egg bloom, it becomes a public health issue as it can affect consumers if the egg is not well-cooked.

How To Use Bitter Leaf Extract for Coccidiosis
Coccidiosis is a disease commonly found in poultry and rabbit, and it is a major threat to farmers’ profitability. In broiler farming for example, the ability of a farmer to overcome coccidiosis throughout the rearing period will determine his success. Today, I will answer all your questions about how to cure coccidiosis in chickens if you read to the end.
Coccidiosis is caused by the Eimeria species, such as Eimeria necatrix, E. tenella, E. acervulina, E. maxima, etc. These organisms and other species of Eimeria bring about chronic intestinal coccidiosis. Chickens are infected with coccidiosis after picking up oocysts from the ground or from their litter. These oocysts are usually passed out from other infected birds that might have recovered from the condition, and they can survive in litter for several month. Because of the ruggedness of oocysts, it is very difficult to completely exclude or eradicate them from a poultry farm, especially where birds are raised in deep litter.
Sign that your chickens have coccidiosis
If you ask any poultry farmer, the first sign they will probably mention is that of bloody droppings, which happens as a result of damage to the intestinal wall. The bleeding intestine explains why chickens suffering from coccidiosis are often reluctant to eat. This, in turn, hastens their death if the condition is not treated with urgency.

HOW TO USE BITTER LEAF FOR COCCIDIOSIS

Gather some bitter leaves. The quantity depends on the volume of juice you are hoping to get and the number of chickens you want to treat
Remove the leaves from the stem and rinse them in a bowl. Be sure to rinse properly but don’t squeeze too hard

The truth about Organic Poultry Farming is that it works for those who know it well.
And you will get to a point in farming when you cannot survive if you have to run to a group online to ask questions about the problems you are facing on your farm, then wait for hours, days or forever to get a response. Thanks to a community like Nairaland where you can be sure to get a response, but sometimes it might take days or weeks. By then, your birds must have died if you don't have an alternative way out.

So, I have found that one needs to know these things well. To get this knowledge, you might need to go to Agric sites that already have resources on Organic Poultry Farming where you will learn without having to wait for responses.

you can check https://guidefreak.com or https://diyagric.com as reference sites on Organic Poultry Farming and lots more.

Happy farming

YOU THOUGHT A GAS BROODER WAS MORE EXPENSIVE - YOU WERE WRONG!
Gas brooders have been thought to be a more expensive source of poultry heat for brooding, but we were wrong. If you are going into poultry farming and you want to brood your chicks yourself, then a gas brooder might be your best companion. While there are various types of brooders you can use in your brooder house, there are many reasons why the infra-red gas brooder wins the competition. Unless you have 24/7 electricity in your area, a gas brooder will not disappoint you.
For a long time, it took a lot of homes a lot of years to move from using Kerosene to gas. Why? They thought gas was for the rich. They always believed it would be more expensive to manage. However, we all know now that a gas cooker will save you more in the long run. The same is applicable to the infra-red gas brooder. Many would say that it is too expensive to manage without ever considering to ask those who have been using it about the running cost. I took it upon myself to do this for you so that I will not only share my personal experience but also some users’ opinion.

Agriculture / Deep Litter System Or Battery Cage System by guidefreak(m): 9:29pm On Sep 09, 2019
This article is to educate you before you choose between deep litter system and battery cage system of poultry rearing. I want to quickly but thoroughly answer one of the most commonly asked questions about these two housing systems.

Just so we are on the same page, deep litter system is where chickens are raised on concrete floor covered with bedding material such as wood shavings. The purpose of the litter material is to insulate the floor and prevent birds from having direct contact with the bare floor. Battery cage system on the other hand is where birds are kept in small compartments of galvanized irons built into cages. The cages are usually partitioned into cells. Yeah, it’s more like imprisoning chickens in a friendly way.

Let’s get back to choosing between deep litter and battery cage systems. You will be wrong to think that you will get a direct answer as to which one of the two you should choose. No! There is no such rule anywhere. The professional help I will give you is to open your eyes to the pros and cons of the deep litter and battery cage systems. To do this, I would like to focus on some key areas of poultry management and compare the two systems. If you are patient enough to read through, you will definitely discover which system is best for you and ‘your’ birds. Now let’s compare the two systems of rearing based on the following:

So, Why the Shell-less Eggs?

Chicken laying eggs without shell is doing so for a reason, and until you figure it out, you may not be able to stop it. Seeing a shell-less egg in your poultry farm or backyard chicken house may be beautiful for the first time. But the feeling changes when you start to see a couple of your hen laying eggs without shell. As a farmer, there are a couple of reasons why you don’t want your chicken to lay eggs without shell:

-You can’t sell shell-less eggs, therefore, it’s a loss
-Thin-shell eggs break easily and cause a mess
-When the cause is not known yet, it’s a major concern
-The chickens keeps eating but laying poor quality eggs
-You’re concerned it might be a disease

So, for whatever reason you are getting mad at your chicken for laying eggs without shell, I understand. But, hey! let’s talk about how you can stop it, but we will have to begin with the causes. As a practicing Animal Scientist, I have encountered the issue of shell-less eggs both on papers and in real-life, and I am willing to share with you the causes and what you can do in each situation.

Expected Broiler Weight Per Week

A clients chatted me up today, and showed me how his broilers were already weighing 1.5 kg at 3 weeks and 5 days. So, I decided to share something on that hoping to help as many people that will read this to the end.

Broiler weight per week is a very important parameter to check if you are into broiler farming. After all, it all ends with the amount of meat your broiler chickens are able to generate from the feed you give them. So, you may ask, is there a standard weight for broilers per week? In this article, I have provided a broiler chicken weight chart showing you what you should get if you are doing it right. This chart should help you monitor your results and know if you are on track.

What To Expect
I have seen people who ask me, “how much feed per broiler chicken?” If that is your question, then the following broiler chicken weight chart should answer that up to the 9th week of rearing.

In case your own question is how much to feed chickens per day, then you will get your answer too.

Because Male and Female broilers don’t have the same weight, I will be wrong not to separate the sex parameter in the chart. So I have created two different charts to represent male and female sexes.

4 Natural Growth Promoters for Broilers (Organic GP)

When broiler farmers raise broiler chickens, there are three things on their mind. The first is how they can make sure that the broilers reach the highest possible weight in the shortest time possible. While there are options when it comes to the use of growth promoters for broilers, organic growth promoters are safer. Usually, farmers adopt the use of Antibiotic Growth Promoters in broiler diet to help promote growth. Some of the dietary antibiotics used include Flavomycin, Zinc bacitracin, and Virginiamycin. Some studies claim that Virginiamycin is the most effective option among the three.

So that we don’t shift the focus of this article, let me tell you why these dietary antibiotics may not be the best. It’s simply because dietary antibiotics result in antibiotic resistance. This explains why NAFDAC has banned the inclusion of antibiotics in animal feed. In this article, I will unveil some natural/organic growth promoters that farmers are using to promote broiler growth. These are safer, cheaper, and do more than promote growth but also keep your chickens healthy. Alright, let me introduce to you some growth recipe.

Agriculture / 5 Vaccination Errors That Will Kill Your Chicken by guidefreak(m): 1:56pm On Mar 25, 2019
Vaccination is supposed to prevent chickens from diseases but not when it is done the wrong way. In this article, I will be sharing some of the reasons why vaccines may kill your chickens before diseases come. But first, it is important that I share with you an insight about what a vaccine is. Vaccines are live, killed or attenuated (weakened) form of a disease-causing organism (pathogen) that are administered to animals to sensitize them and prepare them for the naturally-occurring disease pathogen in its active form.

When a chicken’s immune system notices a vaccine (antigen), the antibodies try to fight this weakened organism. Because of the weakened state of the organism, it is easy for the chicken to overcome. And therefore, the chicken is prepared for the stronger organism if encountered later in life. It is the predisposition to the organism that prepares the chickens, and this is the whole essence of vaccination.

Vaccination Errors That Will Kill Your Chickens
Having established what a vaccine is and why it is administered, let’s get talking about the common errors that farmers make in vaccinating their chickens.

1. Vaccinating Sick or Stressed Chickens:
Vaccinating sick birds is like adding to the sickness. When a chicken is sick, the immune system is compromised. At such times, vaccines will only do more harm – instead of preventing the disease. What happens when you vaccinate a sick bird is that, the weakened organism that is introduced into the chicken’s body is now able to cause the disease. Also, stressed chickens have decreased number of lymphocyte. In case you don’t know, lymphocyte is considered as the factory of antibodies. And antibodies play an important role in your chickens’ immune response.

Agriculture / 5 Golden Rules Of Successful Broiler Farming by guidefreak(m): 11:22pm On Mar 23, 2019
Successful broiler farming is only achievable when you follow some rules. There are rules for every business, and broiler farming is not an exception. In this article, I will not waste your time before sharing some rules that successful broiler farmers always obey. Let's begin with the one you probably know already.

Don’t Starve Your Broilers

Those who have been practicing Broiler Farming for some time will agree with me when I say that broilers are “meat-making machines”. That’s what they are. These genetically endowed chickens are hardwired with the trait to grow very fast and reach market weight as early as 6 weeks. In fact, if you have been doing broiler farming for a while, you can almost notice their size and weight difference in the space of 12 hours. That is, when you leave them in the morning and come back in the evening, you will see that they have grown. Again, that’s what they are - meat-making machines.
To get the best from your broiler chickens and help them to maximize their growth potential, they must not be starved. A study claims that broilers begin to ‘eat up themselves’ (break down body fat) when starved for up to 6 hours. Give your birds as much feed as they can consume. After all, it’s what they convert into meat. But there is a clause on their feeding, and that’s discussed in the next point.

Broilers Say Heat is a Bastard

You and I may have ways of escaping from the effect of excessive heat, but there is almost nothing broilers can do if you expose them to excess heat. This is why it is important to consider the heat factor when considering the type of housing to use. You must do everything possible to keep them cool at all times. This includes high roof, sufficient shade, cool water and lesser feed during hot days. For the feed, it is better not to feed your broilers if you see them panting during hot days. Giving them feed will only add to the heat stress that is already killing them.

EVER HEARD OF ORGANIC POULTRY FARMING AND ORGANIC REMEDIES TO POULTRY DISEASES?

It's finally in your hands.

As an Animal Scientist, embracing this organic poultry farming knowledge might be easier because I have always known some of the wonderful spices that we used to add to poultry feed in the name of project and testing. But let me tell you, it's even more interesting than I ever thought.

So, I set out to do this comprehensive research about the COMMON SPICES AND HERBS TO COMBAT POULTRY DISEASES and have found their work to be absolutely remarkable over the years.

All of the concoctions needed to combat poultry diseases can be made right in your home, and the beautiful thing is that it is a lot more cheaper than using synthetic drugs. For example, I have a coupled of broilers for Easter and I have never treated coccidiosis with synthetic drugs. I only use bitter-leaf extract as you can see in my article on https://guidefreak.com/how-to-use-bitter-leaf-extract-for-coccidiosis.

My discovery has given me so much confidence that I can say goodbye to Embasin Forte, Amprollium, OTC, and all the antibiotics that have been found to be detrimental to human health

Switching to Organic Poultry Farming might be a BIG or ROBUST decision for you to make, and I agree with you, but you can start from somewhere.

Most importantly, you don't want to start something you don't know about.

Or you don't want to go organic when all you know is just using bitter-leaf to treat coccidiosis and using Basil/scent leaft (Efirin) to handle diarrhea in poultry. This is why it is important to get COMPREHENSIVE KNOWLEDGE from the start.

** YOUR COMPLETE GUIDE TO ORGANIC POULTRY FARMING** ***48 PAGES***

Some 15 years back, I started poultry farming on a small scale and was forced to stop because of lack of control over diseases. I didn’t even know what COCCIDIOSIS or Newcastle disease is. I was so unprepared and helpless. Poor me!

I pursued an M.Sc. in Animal Science and the experience met my needs. (FUNNY RIGHT? I KNOW EVERYONE DOES NOT HAVE TO FOLLOW THIS ROUTE. IN MY CASE, I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO STUDY SOMETHING THAT CAN MAKE ME INDEPENDENT)

Upon practicing, I noticed that I COULD HAVE PREVENTED THE THINGS THAT ONCE KILLED MY BIRDS.

What’s even more interesting is finding out the ORGANIC REMEDIES

YES! You can get some knowledge about ORGANIC POULTRY FARMING in bits here and there, but not to be compared to the FULL DOSE that you will get here.

IF YOU EVER WANT TO BE CONFIDENT BEFORE YOU START, KNOWING THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS TURN TO A GUIDE TO SEE WHAT AND WHAT YOU NEED TO PUT TOGETHER TO TACKLE DISEASES. THIS IS IT!

I HAVE PREPARED THIS COMPLETE GUIDE TO HELP YOU THROUGH YOUR STRUGGLES WITH DISEASES.
