CareerRe: Seun And His Draconia Measure On The Adamant Garri Price Crusaders by gunpoint(m):
angry
My fellow nairalanders. Like the late afrobeat legend Fela said and I paraphrase, "garri no get enemy". I find nothing wrong with enquiring as to the current market value of G4oxide. Seun isn't even a real humanbeing, he is just a creation of the matrix to subjugate you into not recognising what is real and what is the matrix. This matrix's Seunbot is part of the great conspiracy lead by people like Mitt Romney trying to subjugate the middle class of America, trying to take garri off their tables.
Like the oracle said, know thy self(or some bullshite like that), if the current price of garri is the truth that will set you free, then by all means enquire.
By the way, given the current ramblings by the emir of CBN, and been the financial military guru that I am, you really should mark to market the current price of garri as against the one you are hiding in that sack in your abode in okokomiako.
Then again there is the issue of the impending bombshell of N5,000.00!!! Sincerely, isn't anyone else as worried as me that it really will affect the price of garri as a tradable commodity vis a vis crude, gold, copper and other such stores of wealth?
If anyone else isn't concerned about the price of garri, then daftness is more widespread on nairaland than I thought.

Seen the pishures you sent me and must say men, you do a good job. Seen a lot of shitty tales on pre-order so far on nairaland but my dealings with you so far have been professional. Keep it up boss.

Boss chill with the 'if you are going to ask, you better be buying' bit. The way business is done is to generate as much interest as possible and hope some of that interest translates into business.

Now to my business. I'm looking to get a toyota matrix 2004-2005 or maybe a toyota rav4 2004-2005. Anything under 80k mileage is fine with me but definately non-accidented. Please don't quote something astronomical as I kinda have a budget in mind. So over to you sar! :-)

Topic completely forgotten, igbo dis, yoruba dat at play, meanwhile the deeds of a truly commendable Nigerian are forgotten. Should it matter were he's from? Will it make you less igbo or more yoruba if you admit dis man's integrity? I shudder to contemplate the future of this country if reporting this good cop among 300,000 bad cops can still prove divisive.

All of you asking for links to state legal codes abi constitution are all silly, scratch that, stupid!
You think becos you are a muslim safe in the south you can defend the killings happening daily up north? I lived in Bauchi for six years and saw Yoruba muslims get killed everyday, don't run your mouth on nlnd, rather get on that bus as a southern and go up north to proclaim your love for sharia during the next crisis in Kaduna nd let's see if you will come back with your head!

@finecat; wish life was as easy as been resolute about what you want to do to get bills paid but it isn't and if banking pays the bills that's what you do. I graduated in 2004 but took 3years till 2007 to decide to go into banking so as Ajelekoko said, life in the real world is hard for us engineers. Your tone might be made out to be frank but its also harsh and doesn't address the realities of everyday life in a mad country like Nigeria, if I was your brother or son and had been sitting at home for 3years post graduation and got an offer from a bank with a salary of 200k plus(at least on paper) you would seriously ask me to turn it down after doing just that to other such offers for 3years? Come on man, get real!

@boss-man; omo I 4 don marry to oh but know I would only be transferring my fear of what I might have done otherwise to a wife and kids. .

@house; lots of your advice hit at the quality of LSBU so I have been in contact with Robert Gordon University(RGU) for the same course and the response so far from the admissions person seems favorable, is that a better bet then?
CareerRe: Giving Up Banking For London South Bank University by gunpoint(op): 6:02pm On Jul 13, 2011
Naaa. .
Most banks don't give study leaves, if they did all bankers will jump @ it and leave 2mrw morning and they know it.

I've read so much advice my brain is now leaking from overload. . . grin

But seriously that's some very sound stuff I've read so far, and I'm digesting it all.

P.S: Did I mention the fact that I got my present banking job off Nlnd? Yeah, way back in 2007, so if you guys got me into this, ya'll better get me the hell out! tongue
CareerRe: Giving Up Banking For London South Bank University by gunpoint(op): 8:58pm On Jul 11, 2011
Happy for all the information people, clearly wahala dey wit LSBU, but then that's why we have a forum like this to expose us.

I do not intend to stay back and work in the UK by the way, but that's my present plan, I might get there and find need to pick up experience in the UK, but its not on my agenda.

Finally, staying in banking isn't an option in the long term as if you do not leave on your terms, you will be kicked out eventually.

@rhea, as a matter of fact I am an EshOotite, are you one too? cheesy

@carnal, thanks for your advice man, that is something I was considering doing on the side along my msc in the UK.

@pablo 1000, always good to hear from someone who has been through it.
CareerRe: Giving Up Banking For London South Bank University by gunpoint(op): 1:55pm On Jul 11, 2011
Important facts
1)I'm really not happy here in banking
2)Banking pays way less than bankers admit(I got in cos I was handed jumbo annual pay on paper but don't earn that much in reality)
3)I do have a 2.2 in my 1st degree hampering my chances in imperial and co. . .
4)The next cycle really will come as witnessed by bankers that got pushed out the last time and dreaded by those of us still in the system.

I will travel to the UK(later in the year) to assess the school myself though before I take the offer and hopefully talk to students in the Msc class I should join 6months later and people generally in the locality about the school and the course.

Staying in banking really isn't an option, like some respondents have noted, there isn't anything you can do or any certificate you can obtain to guarantee you security when the next tidal wave hits, and we all know the unwritten rule in banking(or maybe life as a whole)"the higher you go, the better bulls eye target you become".

@ajanlekoko, the big dogs won't leave that's why we are small fries, you think SLS was madt when he forced out those oldies? Or do you think they would ever had left otherwise? You don see ED wey don do 10yrs b4? Which time e wan reach us?

@jimmyboy, essentially I'm still an engineer so I relate with events analytically, I have considered the time span separating distresses and the definiteness of it happening plus I work in the economy research team of one and know for certain that it will be inevitable @ about that time. Sorry fellow bankers, no good news today so dust your exit plans and start working on it. Plus like you rightly mentioned, the Nigerian banking model is warped, marketing is all there is to it.

I ain't 30 till next year so maybe that's a plus right people? And by the way, I'm paying myself so I can't afford the harriot watts. . .
CareerRe: Giving Up Banking For London South Bank University by gunpoint(op): 8:42am On Jul 11, 2011
@Ajanlekoko, in the past engineers did forge stellar careers in banking but now the mass of small fries in banking are just too many, and I find myself just one of them.

All your advices have been great, but consider this, banking undergoes cyclic stresses, not just in Nigeria but internationally too. In Nigeria this cycle is about four years, give or take a few months.
The last cycle was in 2009, consider what happens if you are a banker with 6yrs experience but engineering educational background, banking has gone bust for you and you have zero engineering experience?
I actually saw this happen to lots of my colleagues so I'm looking to get out on my own terms before the next cycle comes in 2013 give or take months, it might come earlier cos there is no telling how this islamic banking thingy will stress the system.

Cool men, tankz a lot 4 ur advice, I am considering Canada to actually but as you know, a well travelled part is easier to follow, hence my UK admission. But I will try to get something in Canada too.
CareerGiving Up Banking For London South Bank University by gunpoint(op): 6:37pm On Jul 09, 2011
I read mechanical/production engineering in Nigeria, ended up in banking like lots of other engineers that couldn't get into engineering companies for reasons too numerous to mention.
Thing is I am now seriously fed up with banking, really not enjoying it or making the money as I now know bankers lives are fake inside and out.
Just got admitted to London South Bank University for an M sc petroleum engrn,

1)The ranking of the school in the UK is quite low, but the course content is terrific, do things like school ranking matter?
2)Is UK education all its made out to be? Cos I see loads of Nigerians go to get an education there in the hopes of been internationally employable but always end up coming back to the Nigerian job market.
3)Does anyone know anything about London South Bank University sef?
undecided
