HealthRe: Sickle Cell: She Died At The Age Of 40 Years by guobe(op): 10:01pm On Jul 22, 2025
Bijust:
As a sickle cell patient, life hasn't been easy. Being born in Nigeria already feels like starting at a disadvantage, a score of 1-0 against you. Being born into poverty adds another goal, making it 2-0. And then, to be born with a disease like sickle cell… it's a constant battle against pain, a daily prayer for life itself. I'm already 33.

I've managed to get through school, thanks to my mother's unwavering support. I studied engineering. However, I've faced constant rejection from organizations due to my health. I was forced to work in private security for four years, concealing my condition. I left this year after the operations manager, to whom I'd confided about my health, revealed it during a training session, likely to make a point. It felt like they just wanted me gone.

Since leaving, I've been struggling to make ends meet. The biggest challenge is the inability to pursue my dreams with the same drive and determination as others. I remember a final interview at GTB. The interviewer looked me in the eye and asked why my eyes were yellowish. I was honest with him, and he abruptly ended the interview, promising to get back to me. I knew then I had lost the opportunity, and I cried on my way home.

I've endured so much to get to where I am. I pray that God grants me at least something to smile about before my time is up.
So sorry about your situation. Quite pathetic. I am broken by this

Most nigerians don't care about genotype, they are only after physical looks and pocket size, if not why will AS and AS marry, the government don't care, the citizens too don't care, just marry and born, then your kids will suffer from sins they didn't commit because you choose not to do the needful before getting married.
There should be high sensitisation about sickle cell disease especially in remote areas like villages for the uneducated ones.

Hmmm this is quite sad. May her soul rests in peace. I just hope the Children are free because the chances is just out of that four. Hope they free though.

I also had a friend and brother at age 43 already oo and still died of the crisis after surviving so many previous crisis and at the period of his life when crisis barely comes he succumbed. It's quite pitiful.

Reminds me of a boy who was my friend. He actually made me his friend because he was just a boy. He liked me so much and always told me he is my friend, which people laughed over it.

He died at 20 from the same predicament.

So so excruciating.

When I went for a hair cut yesterday evening, I saw the burial poster of a young woman on the entrance iron lock door of the shop near the barbing shop.

I went through the burial poster and discovered that she died at the age of 40.I was inquisitive and asked the barber what happened to her and he told me she was the person that had the shop the burial poster is and she had Sickle Cell and died from it's crisis.

She died behind leaving her husband with 4 kids.
I was completely broken with what she might have passed through in life.
So so sad.
I pray light guides her home .
May her gentle soul rest in peace.

My advice to the young Nigerian if you want to achieve your dreams in life faster

PoliticsYou Will Make It On Time In Another Man's Country Than In Nigeria by guobe(op): 8:24am On Jul 19, 2025
Accessing the situation of the country Nigeria,it is more likely you will achieve your dreams in life on time if you reside in a foreign land.
Just check out the achievements of your friends that travelled to the United States of America and the United kingdom and you and you will realise that you can't stand their achievements except you are benefiting heavily from the fantastically corrupt system or you are in a well paying job which is like 5 percent.
Those people working for the Federal Government of Nigeria mostly receive less than 400 dollars in a month representing 600,000 naira which is for the highest earners and 200 to 300 dollars of about 200,000 to 300,000 naira for mid income earners.
Considering the high inflation and high cost of transportation and fuel, this money being earned won't better your life and before you say Jack Robinson ,retirement has come with nothing to show for it.
Your friends that went abroad will be building choice properties even in Banana Island in Lagos where mega stars live while you are still struggling to survive in Naija.
My advice to the younger people is that if you have the means to move abroad, just move as you will achieve your dreams faster if you do as the Hawks have hijacked the Nigerian dream and are building generational wealth for themselves and their children and don't care if other people suffer and die.
I rest my case.

Nairaland bots should take it easy with soccer predictions as any little prediction, they will just ban you.
Is it a crime to predict a match on nairaland and not that you inputted the codes of any bookies.
Sports section should be scrapped then if you can't be allowed to predict outcomes of the matches that are being played because aura for aura the bants about watching soccer is predicting it even if you are not going to b.t on it.
So as Chelsea is playing PSG in the world club championship today and I decide to open a thread and predict it,I will be banned.

EducationSad As Alot of Nigerian Parents Can't Pay School Fees For Their Kids by guobe(op): 10:04pm On Jul 12, 2025
It's time to write exams for most kids in primary and secondary schools and most parents can't afford to pay school fees due to the excruciating economy we are facing.
This school was suppose to commence its exams but had to postpone it because a large number of the kids have not paid their school fees.
Sad.
