ALTERNATEID: Redenomination will not change the value of the naira since the new N1 will have the same value and purchasing power as the old N1000. Go to Ghana and ask them how well they are doing since they removed four zeros from their money.
The OP talked about capital flight and that’s absolutely ridiculous and extremely ignorant. The current transparent, open, honest and stable exchange rate has attracted lots of capital inflow into the country. How did you guys think we were able to increase our net foreign reserve from $3.9 billion in 2023 to $23 billion as at last month? You think the money came from Tinubu’s pocket?
In fact, JP Morgan is now considering re-listing Nigeria on its government bond index because of our very transparent exchange rate. So, you guys really need to get a good understanding of the issues before jumping around to post nonsense opinions. Tell your payee

F117nighthawk: Abacha for 5 yrs pegged the náírà to a dollar at between 82-85 naira to a dollar, that was abacha,s major achievement under his regime, the dollar to naira exchange rate never go beyond this for 5yrs of his government
quote author=guobe post=135182086]I still can't fathom why our currency is being allowed to exchange at this rate it currently is. A dollar exchanging for 1,500 naira to 1,600 naira is absolutely madness . Even as bad as Abacha regime naira to dollar exchange rate was less than 80 naira to a dollar if I am not mistaking. All sectors in Nigeria are currently on life support as we now have capital flight as the country is presently unhabitable with the best brains leaving the country including alot of companies too. We are a laughing stock by other countries like South Africa as they see our currency as worthless. Imagine our soccer league champions Remo stars winning the Nigerian league and the prize award was 200 million naira equivalent to 120,000 dollars which is the salary earned by an average South African player. Something needs to be done urgently to make the naira have value as the present state is just not tenable. Even with foreign sanctions the currency were still stable under a military dictator. Our so called Democrats are allowing the currency to become worthless. |

1000 naira to be 1 naira

I saw a guy complaining on nairaland in that Remo stars thread of winning the Nigerian league that he was banned for two hours because he criticised that Liverpool winning English league made front page whereas Remo stars winning it couldn't make it before it was pushed later on. Just saw front page now of Arsenal vs PSG a match of all European teams. I don't think African champions league semifinal match between Mamelodi sundowns of South Africa vs Alhy of Egypt graced front page of nairaland. Let's agree nairaland is made in Europe. |

Tirshatha: I went to Twitter and I was stunned to see that a Punter was able to hit 100+ odds 5 times in April 2025. I mean this is someone that understands sports investment as a business and I will say better than me if not the best in the country at the moment. In the light of this: I have counselled my self to emulate on a personal note and break the odds record and where possible the money win record even though he(BIG FUSE) tagged his own community win. Guobe and Thelivingpunter take note that we need to improve. Yes saw it too. He is doing great though into Basketball mostly with very high stake too. |
