The Army expects to be commended for arresting him when he was picked up while seated in the car between a Catholic Priest and the Local Govt Chairman accompanying him to the Govt house in a convoy comprising of repentant militants and traditional rulers.
The ransom should go to the Tiv traditional rulers and the Catholic Bishop of Katsina-Ala who persuaded him to accept amnesty and embrace peace and whom the Army betrayed. Imagine the trauma the Catholic Bishop will be facing now and how in future criminals, agitators, militants, bandits, unions etc will view amnesty offer from government.

2. Why didn't the governor invite the military to the event at Katina-Àla where he first surrendered and also get them to escorts him to Makurdi or coordinate the entire process?

I think the government is playing real politics here

Internal security is the work of the police and they were fully involved, they duly informed the Army which is interagency collaboration but the Army betrayed the rule of engagement by taking him away from the Police and killing him in cold blood

The Army yesterday changed its earlier lie and statement to the public that he was killed after a 'firefight' that lasted for hours to a simple 'he was killed after an encounter with soldiers' leaving out other details because of widespread condemnation of the the cold blooded murder of this guy.

Evidence from several eyewitnesses indicated that Gana was seated in the same car with the Local Govt Chairman and a Catholic Priest who represented the Bishop of Katsina-Ala in a long convoy with other repentant militia members heading to Makurdi to meet with the state governor waiting for them after publicly renouncing criminality and pledging their allegiance to Tiv traditional rulers and the Catholic Bishop never to go back to criminality, all security agencies were informed and the police was present, the Army GOC (who is a Fulani) was duly informed but he used that information to waylay, single out and murder the guy and placing a rifle beside his corpse.

Been granted and accepting amnesty from the state governor whom the constitution bestowed that prerogative means he was innocent at the time he was killed in the eyes of the law (not before God) and his family deserve compensation.

The reality is that despite his criminal past, the action by our Army has turned Gana into a sudden hero who successfully dealt with Fulani herdsmen militia who terrorised Benue, many people also see the action as a great insult on the Tiv traditional institution, the Catholic Bishop and leaders who persuaded this guy to come out from the trenches and embrace peace and as a revenge mission by Fulanis, the consequences we may see later like the killing of Mohammed Yusuf which gave us Boko Haram which we spend a huge chunk of our national budget fighting annually in the last 10 years.

Some are also wondering why the Army is biased as they will sew Asoebi for repentant Fulani bandits and Boko Haram with plenty money to go back home but will murder a repentant militia leader in Benue granted amnesty by the Governor.
