Destruction of the company’s assets wounded staff from gunshots, and violation of the fundamental human rights of staff and commuters are some of the fallouts from the invasion of the Dangote Cement Plc by ‘Kogi Govt Vigilantes or Government Hunters’, according to a statement by Dangote Group.’

“Over 500 Government Vigilantes invaded the Dangote Cement Plant located at Obajana on Wednesday and forcefully shut down its operations”, the statement said.

“Cement trucks were also burnt, and many others were vandalized, as they forcefully hijacked Dangote buses and vans.

“Market and business activities have been brought to a standstill since the attack was launched.

“No fewer than 27 Dangote staff are currently in bad condition after they were shot at by the invaders.

“The control rooms were forcefully shut down and equipment whose monetary value has not been computed was vandalized. Communication cords were also severed to bring production to an abrupt halt.

“The marauding invaders also blocked the roads, distorted vehicular movement, and restrict the movement of people all around Obajana.


“Since the criminal attack, our vehicles carrying diesel have been attacked along Anyigba road.

“The victims of the government-sanctioned invasion are currently admitted to the emergency section of the Kogi State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja”.

Twenty-four persons lost their lives as flood and windstorm affected no fewer than 18,245 people in Katsina state, according to the State Emergency Management Agency
(SEMA).

The spokesperson of the agency, Mr Umar
Muhammad, disclosed this to the News
Agency of Nigeria in Katsina on Friday.
Muhammad said that the disasters were
recorded in all 34 Local Government Areas
(LGAs) of the state during the 2022 rainy
season.

He said that several other persons sustained
various degrees of injury as a result of the
natural disasters.

The agency’s spokesperson also said that 16,
625 houses were damaged d by the disasters.

According to him, 1, 620 farmlands were
also submerged in Kafur, Danja and Ingawa
LGAs.

He said that properties and farm produce
estimated to cost millions of naira were
destroyed as a result of the disasters.

Mohammed said that the agency had already
assessed the affected houses and farmlands
in order to assist the victims.

He added that the state government would
soon start distribution of relief assistance to
the victims.

The spokesperson said that the National
Emergency Management Agency (NEMA),
would also soon distribute relief materials to
the affected persons.

An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court, weekend, ordered the remand of 18-year-old Tope Momoh, for allegedly strangling his 52-year-old mother, Stella Momoh to death.

Police Prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin, said
that the defendant was arraigned for
murder.

According to Akintimehin, the defendant
committed the offence at midnight on
September 6, 2022, at Ikakumi Akoko, in
Ondo state.

He informed the court that Tope strangled
his mother to death in the middle of the
night for calling him a bastard. He said the defendant confessed he was responsible for his mother’s death two weeks after she had been buried.

The Prosecutor said that the cause of the
death of the victim was not immediately
known when she died until her son
confessed to being the perpetrator.

“Tope, in his confession, said he was forced to tell his relatives that he strangled his mother to death when she woke him up at midnight, raining curses on him and calling him a bastard repeatedly.”

The prosecutor said the offence contravenes
Section 319(1)of the Criminal Code, Cap 37,
Vol. II Law of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant pleaded with the court that: “I did not have rest of mind since my mother has been buried. So, I was forced to confess that I strangled her to death. So, I want the court to show me mercy.”

However, the prosecutor, urged the court to
remand the defendant in a custodial centre,
pending the outcome of advice from the
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The defendant’s plea was not taken as Chief
Magistrate Musa Al-Yunnus ordered his
remand at the Olokuta Correctional Centre.
Al-Yunnus, therefore, adjourned the case till
October 20, 2022, for a ruling.

LAGOS—Tragedy struck, yesterday, afternoon, when a ^{commercial bus suddenly burst into the fire at Iyana-Oworo, Gbagada area of Lagos State, killing no fewer than seven passengers, including a child.}

According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred at about 5 pm, as passersby rushed to put out the raging fire.

Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, confirmed the incident and casualties.

Oke-Osanyitolu said: “Upon arrival at the scene, a commercial bus of 14 passengers, Mazda, with number plate, KJA 699 GY, was discovered to have been gutted by fire.

“Further investigation gathered at the scene revealed that the incident occurred due to recklessness and over-speeding by the driver, which resulted in the fire with 12 passengers trapped.

“Fortunately, the driver escaped with some burns, three female adults were rescued and rushed to Gbagada General Hospital, while a male adult was attended to by LASAMBUS at the scene.

"Unfortunately, seven victims were burnt to death, including four female, two male adults and one male child in the bus.”

It was gathered that the burnt bodies of the victims were later bagged by the agency’s LRT Paramedics, Lagos State Ambulance Service, and LASAMBUS officials and handed over to State Environmental Health Management Unit, SEHMU.

Men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, official who cordoned off the scene of the incident subsequently, removed the burnt vehicle from the road.

Police officials also provided rescue and security operations.
