Politics / Re: Report Links Tinubu, Associates to 20 UK Properties by Hadeylex: 5:41pm On May 06, 2023
That's what we are talking about! Some people so blindfolded that they are not aware of or can see what is ahead with Tinubu becoming the president of Nigeria.
Politics / Report Links Tinubu, Associates to 20 UK Properties by Hadeylex: 5:37pm On May 06, 2023
The President-elect, Bola Tinubu; Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; a former Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola, and an associate, Oladipo Eludoyin, have been allegedly linked to 20 properties bought in the United Kingdom when he (Tinubu) was serving as Lagos State governor.

According to an investigative report published on Friday, May 5, by the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, 17 of the properties were bought by Eludoyin, Tinubu’s long-term associate and a director of Aranda Overseas Corp., between 2004 and 2007.

The OCCRP is a global network of investigative journalists with staff members on six continents, Africa, Europe, Asia, South America, North America, and Australia, whose main agenda is exposing corruption and preventing crime.

A Bloomberg investigation had on Tuesday reported that Seyi, Tinubu’s son, is the main shareholder of Aranda Overseas Corp. – an offshore company he used in purchasing a $10.8 million property under probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Concerning the recent exposé, the OCCRP’s Friday report read, “Tinubu, whose victory in February is being challenged in court, has been keeping part of his wealth in the United Kingdom, where he and his close associates own at least 20 properties that were mostly acquired when Tinubu was the governor of Lagos State.

“OCCRP has uncovered more than a dozen other properties with links to Tinubu. Tinubu’s spokesman did not respond to email and text messages seeking comment,” the investigation reads.

“Tinubu was forced to forfeit $460,000 to the U.S. government in 1993 as proceeds of narcotics trafficking, according to the ruling of a U.S. District Court in Illinois.

“However, about a year later, Abeeb Holdings Limited, an offshore company registered in Gibraltar with Tinubu as the beneficial owner, bought Flat 9 at 96-100 New Cavendish Street in London.

“His connection to Abeeb Holdings Limited has been revealed, thanks to the Register of Overseas Entities, a new measure designed by the UK to reveal the true owners of offshore firms that hold property in the country,” OCCRP reports.

The OCCRP said it later found that Eludoyin is also the beneficial owner of 17 UK properties through three offshore companies registered in the British Virgin Islands.

The organisation added that Fashola, Tinubu’s former aide and successor, and Sanwo-Olu, Tinubu’s former aide and incumbent governor of Lagos State, also had a hand in controlling Aranda Overseas Corp. internal affairs.

“Fashola also signed and presented the allotment of shares of Aranda Resources Limited to Nigeria’s corporate registry in December 2001. Fashola’s spokesperson did not respond to requests for comment.

“Sanwo-Olu was a director in Aranda Resources Limited until 26 days before his first day in office as governor in May 2019. His spokesperson also did not respond to requests for comment,” the report said.

The OCCRP report further noted that Eludoyin’s properties were purchased between 2004 and 2007 when Tinubu was governor of Lagos State, adding that he also did not respond to a request for comment.

The report added, “Another director of Aranda Resources Limited and Aranda Overseas Corporation, Adegboyega Oyetola, was elected governor of the Nigerian southwestern state of Osun in 2018, and Tinubu was widely credited for his electoral success.

“It is not clear when he became the beneficial owner, but when Aranda Overseas Corporation was incorporated in November 1999 in the tax haven British Virgin Islands, the younger Tinubu (Seyi) was 14 and had just been admitted into Milton Abbey School in England for his secondary school education while his father (Bola Tinubu) had just spent nearly six months as the governor of Lagos State.”

Politics / Buhari: Prices of Goods/Services Then (2015) and Now (2023) by Hadeylex: 5:02am On Apr 24, 2023
Buhari's 8 years administration will be over in a matter of days. Every Nigerian who was at least a grown-up in 2015 can easily tell how life has been in these years the government has been on. Below are some economic indices of Buhari's performance as it has impacted on the life of the common man on the street, in terms of the prices of goods/services:

Bag of rice in 2015 - N6500: now - N36000
10kg Semovita in 2015 - N1800; now - N7000
A litre of petrol in 2015 - N97; now - N250-N300
A bag of cement in 2015 - N1600; now - N4700
A congo of garri (10 cups) in 2015 - N70 - 100; now - N350
A congo of beans (sweet) in 2015 - N300; now - N1200+
Roofing sheet (ordinary) on 2015 - N8000; now - N30000+
WC for toilet (ordinary) in 2015 - N7500; now - N24000+
A litre of kerosene in 2015 - N250; now - N800+
65 units of electricity in 2015 - N1000; now @ N1000 - 18 units
Toyota Corolla LE/CE (imported) in 2015 - N800k; now N3.5 million+
1 US $ in 2015 - N200; now - N700+

Please, let's compare the prices of as many other goods/services as we can remember to determine on the performance of this administration so as to help us know how the in-coming administration also performs in economic indices. Thanks

Politics / Pardon Me If I’ve Hurt You, Buhari Begs Nigerians by Hadeylex: 4:40pm On Apr 21, 2023
President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to people he might have hurt in the course of his duties to pardon him.

He made the appeal at the ninth and final Sallah homage by residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) led by the minister, Mohammed Bello, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President also thanked Nigerians for tolerating him over the last seven and a half years of his administration.

“I think this is a very good coincidence for me to say goodbye to you and to thank you for tolerating me for more than seven and half years now.”

“I assure you, I have deliberately arranged to be as far away from you as possible not because I don’t appreciate the love you’ve shown to me, but because I think I’ve gotten what I have asked and I would rather quietly retire to my hometown.

“Having been a Governor, Minister and the President twice, I think God has given us an incredible opportunity to serve as your president. And I thank God for that. So, please whoever feels I have done wrong to, we are all humans. There is no doubt I hurt some people and I wish you will pardon me. And those that think that I have hurt them so much, please pardon me.”

If at all, the supreme court sustains his criminal selection and the rape of democracy perpetuated by Inec, then Nigerian should get ready for TAX HELL as it is in lagos.

Because that is the only thing he knows and good at -Increment in tax systems motivated by stealing.

People who deosnt know Lagos, people living in Oshogbo, abiokuta and Kwara are shouting Lagos, but they dont know what people are passing through in Lagos, courtesy of him.

If at all, Nigerians should brace up for difficult times in all trials, with sophisticated and unsatiable excusses.

Exactly! Unfortunately, many don't see these coming. More/higher tariffs, import duties and consequently with their attendant effects on the prices of goods and services; suppression of voters and dissenting voices, human rights abuses and abuse of court orders, more lies about why the country is not working are some of the moments to expect!

Dsalvo:

Nigerian politics is not mature enough to be about Political Parties and their overarching ideology.

It is mainly about individual and their political leanings/ideology hijacking how Parties work and make decisions.

With that reality in mind, and with the results he has achieved as a politician, Tinubu is best placed to be the overarching influence over any ruling Party Nigeria can produce today.

They say in boxing that styles makes fights. In politics I think, where democracy is not deep and entrenched as is the case in most of Africa, then the vision and brilliance of the President/head of State supercedes talk of Party democracy that is actually an oxymoron when Party democracy functions in the opposite ay they do worldwide.

No race has greater capacity for self-deception than black folks and especially the African variant. I cringe when Nigerians talk of APC, PDP when the reality is that not a single Political Party in Nigeria, over the past 22 years, can point to central Party leadership ethos it abides and lead by all the time.

Truth is that APC was Buhari and his acolytes thinking from 2015 to 2023.

Same as OBJ and his crew of 'inner controllers' determined how PDP worked from 1999 to 2007.

Tinubu too gave Lagos his political identity from 1999 to 2007 and beyond.

Difference is that results bore out the fact Tinubu is best because his thinking has proven superior as it has had longevity and success beyond what other Governors and Nigerian Presidents have supervised.

Your prediction is therefore base on emotions and your own bias against Tinubu and not what evidence and proven reality shows us conclusively.

I am always puzzled when people keep referencing Lagos as Tinubu's achievement. But, many fail to realise that Tinubu, just because he was a two-term governor of Lagos State, has virtually converted the state into his private property, enriching himself from the proceeds of the state.

Another thing: he runs his political dynasty using militants and thugs to win elections. He has thriven on this for many years now. In fact, this is how he has sustained his political spread.

I live in Osun State. I can tell the evils, backwardness and setbacks the state has suffered from the hold of Tinubu and the stooges he sent to govern the state. I am referring to Aregbesola and Oyetola. This is why when people realised, they voted APC out of the state!

I don’t agree with you OP. Tinubu is 100% different from Buhari and the crooks around him. You will be shocked. Tinubu is going to transform Nigeria tremendously. He is far more intelligent and experienced than Buhari. His antecedents are far better than Buhari. I can’t wait for his regime to start.

Well, until then. We shall see!

Politics / Tougher Times Ahead With Tinubu's Presidency by Hadeylex: 7:51am On Apr 20, 2023
Fellow Nigerians and Nairalanders, let's brace up for tougher times if Tinubu is eventually sworn in as president. I know this may not go down well with some people, it is the gospel truth. This is not a prophecy of doom!

Don't expect magic from a set of people who have run the country incompetently for 8 years. Always remember that it is the same APC administration, just change of baton. My candid advice: begin to plan for the coming time now. If, by chance, things are favourable, then it is a plus to efforts already made. The foreknowledge of war does not overtake the cripple (Ogun awitele kí í pá aro).

I hope I am not the only one observing this - nowadays, Nairaland - a vibrant and interesting online platform for various people to contribute meaningfully to issues that affect the populace has only been recently taken over by Tinubu/APC-sponsored commentators and loyalists.

It is quite easy to tell going by the antecedents of the party and its leaders and the strategy they usually employ - propaganda.

Unfortunately, this has reduced the website to a mere commentary platform for unserious and political loyalists. I remember there used to be a time when popular newspapers such as The Punch extracted news from the comments of Nairalanders on topical issues and published in its news. This tradition has become a thing of the past! Wonder why desperate politics is beclouding people of their moral sense and preventing them from seeing situations from the objective perspective.

Of course. I lost respect for the old fool the moment I discerned that he was just another rodent in Tinubu's cookie room. The idiot whose voice of condemnation was very loud against the Jonathan administration somehow retreated into his shell and became deaf and dumb throughout Buhari's disastrous 8 years of sorrow.

Now after a sham election has supposedly produced a bloody thief and drug baron as president, the useless Soyinka has found his voice again, not in condemnation of the election or of the disreputable criminal that was dubiously pronounced winner, but against the people yearning for a change. Obedients are repugnant fascists and he is ready to do a debate with Datti, but he conveniently has nothing to say about INEC, Tinubu, and the APC. This is the final straw.

Politics / IPMAN Faults Minister Over Port Harcourt Refinery Completion Date by Hadeylex: 1:25am On Mar 24, 2023
The Independent Petrol Marketers Association of Nigeria has faulted the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, over his assurance on the completion date of the Port Harcourt refinery.

Sylva had at a seminar by defence correspondents recently in Abuja said the refinery would be ready before the end of the second quarter of the year.

But the IPMAN Chairman in Rivers State, Dr. Joseph Obel, said the assurances of the minister were one too many without result.

Obele said this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday and sent to newsmen.

While noting that it was not the first time the minister was making such a promise, he said it was unfortunate that on each occasion, he had failed to deliver and that he would fail again.

He stated that the Federal Government was not committed to fixing the refineries and seeing them function, adding that Nigeria is the only ‘critical’ member of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries without a functional refinery.

The statement read, “The Minister of State for Petroleum did promise Nigerians that the Port Harcourt refinery would commence operations by December 2022, he failed.

“They are not committed to seeing the refinery functional. They are comfortable importing from the international market because they have shares in those foreign refineries.

“It will take a corrupt-free government to make our refineries functional, then and only the persistent fuel scarcity will be a thing of the past and Nigerians will buy fuel less than #100 per litre.”

Continuing, the state IPMAN Chairman said, “We don’t trust them anymore, so they should stop making promises and continue importing from those foreign refineries owned by their business partners.

“Nigeria is the only critical member of OPEC without a functional refinery, we should be ashamed as a nation.”
