macof: I'm sorry but your earlier post seemed rather ridiculous and too quick to condemn african monarchy.. accept my apology
you didn't make all this clear initially.
let's look at it this way... Nigeria is multi ethnic, that means multiple (sometimes conflicting) traditions Nigeria has two very dogmatic religions Nigeria was not the idea of Nigerians but the British, we are still trying to cope with the arrangement. we had our own laws and constitutions before Nigeria was created
so we in the west cannot just ignore our monarchs, the Muslim north cannot just eliminate sharia or their emirs
so however ridiculous you think the system is its because Nigeria itself is ridiculous. .. you wonder why not a single sector is impressive in this country Lol @ last paragraph. At least we both agree on something The thing tire person sha |

asala1: Yea, you made some point that I agree with. There is the need for evolution of our culture with time. Most of what we have today as our culture is the accumulation experiences from the past and this experiences changes with time, and so should our culture evolve. But unfortunately, we have refused to change and upgrade our culture. People will say, this is how our forefathers used to it, whether it is right or wrong. People will argue that pounding yam manually makes it taste better than pounding with a machine. As a result, they will rule out the notion of even inventing one simply because "the old ways are better". This applies to a lot of areas in our lives Just like a saying in my mother tongue "The wisdom of today is the madness of tomorrow", so my recognizes and accommodates change. However, I believe the fundamentals of our culture like the traditional kingship would forever be in place and be cherished. Who wouldn't appreciate the beauty of the African culture or the wisdom in our proverbs. However, you have to understand that in a monarchy "citizens" are "subjects" and this means no freedom of speech and only a particular family rules. You have no vote on who leads you. It also involves a lot of yansh kissing as you can see in the pic of the original post. In a monarchy, the royal purse is sustained a lot by the taxes of it's subjects. No more "Buhari the dullard" on social media because you can never address a king or monarchs in such manner and often one will risk death. Basically, no more freedom of speech. The constitution is the culture of our forefathers and the "dead" elders are always wise. I am yet to hear the review of any culture like constitutions get reviewed. So, we are going to live under one set of laws for a very long time. 1) I haven't seen where anyone was killed due to "oro". You can enlighten me on that. Well, neither have I but whenever oro is announced, everyone knows you shouldn't go out after a certain period or you risk being beaten up or killed. I do not know if you live in Nigeria but if you do I can invite you to an oro in Ikorodu. All you need to do is walk around after a certain time and we will have all the facts. 2) You blame female inequality on our culture? Female inequality is everywhere in the world even in the developed countries. Have you heard of "equal pay day" where it takes a woman with same qualification 16 months (April 12th of the following year) in the U.S to earn the same salary a man earns in 12 months. I personally believe equity should be the right word and not equality, that's a different argument. No na. Not on OUR culture but on culture itself. Inequality of any sort is part of human nature but developed nations have been able to figure out what is right and what is wrong and then changed their "culture/constitution" to new ideals and to conform with modern understanding of how thing ought to be. However, our culture doesn't do much to aid in the equality of the women folk. You have to agree that in most Nigerian cultures the woman is considered as a property that can be sold or bought and paid for in the form of 'bride price". Or how would you justify a woman left with nothing after her husband's death while the husbands family share the "loot"? 3) We are different even from the root. The problem is trying to made different people reason like one, that hasn't work and won't work. The best thing is to understand that we are different and we should respect that. Take the US for instance. All nationalities live there however, the law is the law. If your religion or culture permits you to kill and sacrifice chickens or goats, you will get arrested for doing exactly that in countries where indecent killing of animals is against the law. My stance is simple, we should have a body of laws(call it a constitution or whatever) that govern us as NIGERIANS first. Presently, we are under a democratic monarchic tribalistic and sharia setting. To ME, that is ridiculous |

Here is my point, apparently people seem to be misinterpreting my comment, if we are going to have a democracy let it be a democracy. Not a democracy, with a little bit of monarchy and sharia. If we are going to practice monarchy, let it be strictly a monarchy. And if with a monarchy, let it be one devoid of ritualistic practices and one with the sole aim of uniting Africa

1. democracy is archaic too. it's history goes back to at least 500BC
2. democracy hasn't ensured gender equality in any country. .. if you think otherwise mention one and state how democracy has enforced gender equality
3. now you just talking nonsense. ritual killings got nothing to do with monarchies or culture. as far as I know mad scientists in the west perform crazy rituals as they experiment on humans and animals ...all before modern standards were set
----- with African monarchy you have a rich heritage still preserved, you have greater communication and understanding between the people and the leaders, you sell your culture to the world etc

tonytony208: ....but the queen of england must be retained in England, abi? Your reasoning is upside down, like that of a man, who has studied his brain up his assess. Calm down bro. Most countries in Europe executed their monarchs in the 1800s and it is only England that has chosen to retain it's "Queen". The Brits always want to be different and that is why you see their cars have right hand wheels. The fact that they have a royal family that does nothing and lives off tax payers' money is quite repulsive to me and that nonsense should have been abolished a long time ago. However, Nigeria is the subject of discussion here and not England. The inability of Nigerians to figure out what is good for her and not always imitate is why we will never move forward. |

asala1: Our culture is number one, that's who we are. We know the history and we know why the colonialist took power away from our traditional rulers. Democracy is imported and foreign. How has democracy helped us in any way? The democracy we don't even understand, 80% of our constitution was written by the Brits. We are just coping people blindly and that why we are where we are. I believe if the traditional rulers are given constituted power to to govern people in their locality and execute projects, we will have better system than what we have now.
There is need for Africans to understand themselves and to know where they are coming from, without this poverty and underdevelopment shall forever abide in their mist. There is a say in my mother tongue which says "A slave of the king who believe he is a member of the king's family is deluded" Lol. Seems like your brain was booting a while back. You've hit the nail on the head. Democracy, christianity and islam are the three worst things to hit Nigeria. I cannot argue with that. These things have eroded our self worth and our ability to properly understand and govern ourselves. I feel if we should practise only ONE form of government. Either we focus on democracy or completely scrap it. There is no need tolerating monarchs OR we go back to full monarchy and dismiss democracy in it's entirety. However, you must realise that cultures can be developed on. There are several reasons like: 1) Oro: Any law that put citizens in any form of harm should be scrapped. In many places, women and "non indigenes" are not allowed to go out at specific times and risk getting killed. For what exactly? Note: "Oro" is prevalent in other cultures aside from Yoruba. I just do not know what such festival is referred to in those parts. 2) Female inequality: Most of our tradition subjects women and in some parts of the country, women lose everything in the case of the husband's death. She and her kids are left to start from nothing while the family members inherit the properties of the man. Absolute nonsense to me 3) Our culture divides us: Everyone identifies with a particular group according to their tribes. And these tribes are further broken down into smaller tribes. The Yoruba man, after dividing himself from the Ibos and Hausas still has to be either Egba, Ijebu, Ondo etc. Same with other tribes Etc What we need is a system that regards and respects us all as humans and NIGERIANS first. Trad or democratic or an entirely new concept |

asala1: What do you mean by archaic belief? If you believe your culture is an archaic belief then you are completely irredeemable. How do kingship promotes gender inequality, ritualistic killings and ignorance? How has democracy which has cost this nation billions of dollars through embezzlement by politicians benefited Nigeria? I will rather have a king who communicates with his people everyday than have a politician who is only interested stealing. Lol. What exactly do kings communicate? How do they raise funds? What infrastructural development have any of them ever done? We either stick to traditional ruling or focus on democracy. At this point we are practicing a dual form of government. The constitution and culture. |

mazazatonda: Brothers and Sisters,it used to baffle me and i keep on thinking over this often and often why most high level secret cult members(not university cult),i mean powerful cult members that do rituals, sacrifice, etc all in the name of being rich and wealthy and commanding the society and some of the real born again christians in the church with their occult power will most often be a dedicated church member who many can swear that they are born again and you can hardly believe that he or she is an occult member. In most cases, they are the ones they says what happens in the church and the society. And this set of people will keep on shouting most of all these christian terminologies like,....blood of Jesus,it is well,God bless you my brother or my sister,God is good etc.I am not talking from guess work,i am talking with facts.Even most of the activities in the church, many of them sponsor it and majority will be well known in the church and also closer to the men of God.Does it mean those men of God don't know and cannot know that those people are in occult? My people,i am always shocked and surprised and i begin to ask myself many questions-does it mean that God welcome Occult people?,how would they be serving God and serving Devil, even using human being to perform sacrifice and yet things will still be working perfectly for them??,does it mean that God doesn't care about what they are doing even though they are still shouting his name and worshiping him??.How can this combination be going on?, does it mean that one of the characteristics of being a secret cult member and making it work for you is that you must not only be active in church but should also ensure that you are shouting all these christian terminologies for it to work?.deceiving people by combining power of darkness with power of light, yet it is still working even at occupying highest position in the church and being recognised?.I believe such will also be happening in muslim, but i am not a muslim so i dont know much about them. Please my question is why is it that many secret cult people attend churches most and at the same time are the one that calls Lord's name most, yet things are working for them,is it a tradition or condition to be an occult member?.I dont understand the whole thing and it baffles me and need an explanation. What is your proof that these people belong in a secret cult, are occultic or that they are ritualistic? |

Yes, I am an atheist but I need the money. Church is all about the money.
Now, you might be thinking....wait, isn't this Jackbizzle guy an atheist? Well, yes. But Many of your pastors and priests are atheists- they lost faith in religion and they only see it as a money making scheme.
I'm already used to pretending to be a christian! I go to church to please friends and family. I even make prayers at large occasions. I am also good at giving convincing speeches.
