Ans 1. yes you can. how? through android.mob.org or any other sites that have the files BUT you may not enjoy it oh... if its still requesting for data files that means you have not placed your data in the right folder.
Ans 2. Rooting helps improve your phone's performance. many apps that help to finetune your phone or make some apps work on ur phone require root access which you can gain when you root ur phone.
Superuser is the app that grant root access to other apps and you can only have it working when you root your phone...

lol... pinging things... get an android and enjoy varieties of apps and games. i can bet you that no one will buy bb if bbm is removed from that java phone called bb.

As long as other apps in ur phone are still browsing and you have entered ur gmail and you have space on ur mcard. switch off and on the data then try again. or put ur phone in airplane mode for a while and change it back to receive network. try your playstore again
