While in Canada, she submitted an Outside of Canada study permit application (IMM 1294), which is acceptable. Note that this is not an in-Canada application (IMM 5709), as the VO would have cancelled the application if she applied for in-Canada study permit (IMM5709). That said, there is a difference between the in-Canada and Outside Canada applications. With an in-Canada study permit application, having a visitor visa does not make you eligible. To be eligible to apply from inside Canada as a visitor (a study permit is processed at a visa office in Canada, and the permit is mailed to your address; PPR is not required), you must meet specific criteria; one such requirement is completing a course or program prerequisite to securing a school admission to a DLI. With the outside-of-Canada study permit (IMM 1294, if using a gckey account), the application is processed at a visa office outside Canada. Once you receive your PPR, you are now allowed to submit your passport at a visa office in Ottawa if you are in Canada at the time of approval. As I mentioned earlier, this process is not an in-Canada application.

I believe the denial has nothing to do with the current location. Review the following;
Sources of the funds, especially if there are lump sums
Proof of relationship to sponsor, if applicable
Is the program relevant to her present and future career path
Program redundancy in relation to previous education

Thanks so much. This is helpful.
On the application form, is it correct to state her current residence as Nigeria or Canada? We were already thinking of stating her address as Canada in the reapplication and explaining that she erroneously stated Nigeria because that is her permanent residence. We are being careful not to give any impression of misrepresentation.

Thanks again.

Hello everyone
Please has anyone here with visitor visa status in Canada successfully applied for a study permit while in Canada? A family relative is in a dilemma because she was denied study permit while here in Canada based on insufficient funds and that the purpose of visit is not consistent with a temporary stay based on what she provided in her application. Please note that she had paid the full tuition fee for the one year program plus approx N10M in her account.

One other thing is that she stated her Nigerian address as her residence but someone said she should have used her current address in Canada. The reason she did that was because of the belief that she is not eligible to apply for study permit from inside Canada. Note that she is still within her 6month validity as a visitor.

Must she go back to Nigeria to reapply? We can address the financial concerns raised, it's just navigating this issue on a visitor status that is our main concern. Her husband and kids are back in Nigeria and are worried as well.

Thanks

Hey everyone,
Please any one with similar experience with VFS or knowledge regarding this situation, kindly help on what to do:

I applied for visit visa via the online route for my spouse and kids to visit me in Canada. Their passports were requested for and hubby went to submit them at Lagos VFS. According to him, they separated his passport from the kids'. They said he should take the kids' passport to another section to pay for the fees to transmit them to the embassy, while his own passport was with the initial person that attended to him I.e the person that receives it when you go to VFS. They said he didn't need to pay for his as his biometrics fees already covered that.
The thing is, the kids' visas have been approved and he has been notified to pick up only theirs but his own status on CIC account is still the same (still open and no acknowledgement that his passport has been received)
He has tried calling VFS, no response. He has emailed since two days and is yet to get feedback.
By the way, this is a visa renewal and he did not experience this the first time. I hope his passport is not lost. Please help sad

I just read through @mesh2003 posts. So the deal is not to apply with daughter. But I also noticed that all those in the same situation including @mesh2003 plan to apply for child after settling down in Canada.

My dilema is that I don't have anyone in Lagos to leave her with. I have no Nanny. She attends a Pre-school in Lagos and I pay for extended care till 6:00pm daily and I pick her after work.

So will it be advisable to apply for her immediately after getting my TRV, but before I leave for Canada, so we can go together?

From my experience, I decided to apply alone first and leave my kids behind. However, your case is different because you do not have a solid arrangement for your baby if you leave her behind. Note that childcare in Canada is CRAZY expensive (around 800cad per child per month) so you will need to factor in that amount for the duration of your stay and convert to our devalued naira along with other expenses when showing evidence of financial capability.

Dear halle2,

Many thanks for your contribution. I appreciate it. The source of funding is still my state government. I got it about two years ago but because I had not secured admission, I placed it in fixed deposit because of security and other reasons. Shortly after I got the offer, I liquidated it and it will be four months old at the end of the month. The account is over three years old.

Do you reckon I can do the medicals before applying or wait till I am instructed to do so by CIC?

Will hard copies of my transcript and certificate be required when I go for biometrics?

Thank you once again!

You might have to show evidence that it is from your sponsor, you can also show that it has been in an investment before it got back to your account (eg investment advice). You can either do medicals upfront or wait to be instructed, it is your choice. It is only the biometrics instruction and your travel passport you require for biometrics. Ensure to go through previous parts of this topic (part 5 or so) to get more helpful information.
Cheers!

Good morning everyone. You are doing a wonderful job here. I have learnt a lot reading through some pages on this thread. Please I need some advice/information before applying for a visa.

I have a Ph.D admission in Canada. I will get a sponsorship letter from my sponsor (state government) next week. The money in my account (equivalent to tuition and living cost for about two years) will be four months at the end of this month.

Can I make my application now or do I wait till end of the month when and get four months' SOA?

Is it advisable I take the medical examination in a designated hospital before applying or wait till I'm asked to do that? I read from CIC website that doing the medicals first makes the application faster.

Does the online application involve uploading supporting documents?

Do I need my Bachelor's and Master's degree and transcript for application?

What is the timeframe between completing an online application and biometrics?

Thank you all!

@justwise thumbs up!

Congrats on your admission!
Wait for the sponsorship letter from the government. What is the source of funds in your account? How old is the account? Why not print from four months back to date if you want to apply right away. When you apply online, you are expected to upload scanned copies of your supporting docs, you will see the different areas for different categories of supporting documents. Like letter of acceptance, you would upload your admission letter and documents you used to get the admission; proof of funds you will upload your statements of account, sponsorship letter, etc and each category has a question mark that when you click it explains what you are supposed to upload. You will get a notification almost immediately after online application submission, with a letter of instruction for biometrics.

tofam3k3: I just got a mail from MUN that I must resume before the registration deadline of September 15th and I'm yet to get a feedback from CIC after medicals.
Is it ok to register for courses on the school portal pending CIC's response so I won't miss the deadline.
have you paid your fees? Mail your dept and let them know your challenges, they would be in a better position to advise. It is well

Hello everyone,

Glad to see this thread move very fast, looking forward to lots of good news for late fall applicants and winter applicants.
please for those familiar with travelling with lufthansa, what is their baggage policy? I am seeing 1piece? Does it mean I am only entitled to 1 piece of 23kg? I heard ppl saying 23kg per piece for two luggage and now I have two luggage packed. If I am paying for the additional one, how much is it? Pls I need to know asap, am leaving tomorrow.

Please who is this doctor ?
He has put the life of a lot of people at risk and has cost the government millions or billions of Naira.
Unfurtunately he is dead but i recommend a long jail term for the diplomat and survivors of acts like his.
you took the words right out of my mouth. Its not ok to just sit and watch some evil people put the health of the populace in jeopardy. From the nurse that escaped to enugu to this wicked diplomat, all culprits found wanting should be restored to health, and made to face criminal charges because any life lost as a result of their wicked acts should be equated to second degree murder and should be treated accordingly.
