CareerRe: Why Nigerian Youths No Longer Believe In ‘9-to-5’ Jobs by Hamachi(f): 10:01am On Sep 10, 2025
Not everyone can abandon the 9-to-5 dream. Let’s be real — freelancing and tech aren’t the only answers.

Yes, remote work and self-employment look attractive, but they are not as easy as Instagram makes them seem. The truth is:

Freelancing is unstable. Today you might land a $500 gig, tomorrow you’re chasing invoices or going weeks without work.

Not everyone is cut out for entrepreneurship. Running a business or managing clients requires discipline, resilience, and financial management skills many young people are still building.

9-to-5 jobs still provide structure. They offer steady income, health insurance, training, and sometimes even global opportunities through multinational companies. These things are often overlooked.

The economy needs both. If everyone jumps into “soft life freelancing,” who will manage hospitals, banks, logistics, airlines, and government services?

The better perspective isn’t “9-to-5 is dead” — it’s about blending the two worlds. A corporate job can fund your side hustle until it grows. A freelancing gig can give you extra income while your 9-to-5 provides security.

At the end of the day, it’s not about which path is cooler. It’s about which one is sustainable for your lifestyle, your bills, and your long-term goals.
Jobs/VacanciesCan You Do A Remote Job With Your Regular 9-5? by Hamachi(op): 6:57am On Sep 10, 2025
Imagine you already have a 9–5 office job that pays the bills but barely leaves room for savings or the lifestyle you want. Then, you land an opportunity for a remote side job—flexible hours, decent pay, and entirely online.

But here’s the catch:

If you accept, you’ll be working long hours, probably sacrificing rest, social life, and maybe even your health.

If you decline, you’re stuck with financial limitations, watching peers build wealth and skills through remote opportunities while you tread water.

Now the bigger moral controversy:
Some people argue it’s dishonest or even “unprofessional” to juggle two jobs at once—your employer expects full focus from 9–5.

Others say in today’s economy, where one salary is often not enough, it’s smart survival and even a form of empowerment.

So the dilemma becomes:
1. Should you stick to one job to preserve focus, balance, and employer loyalty?
2. Or should you double up, take the remote role, and push yourself harder—risking burnout but potentially securing financial freedom faster?

Good afternoon and Happy Sunday fam,

I just got an offer for a remote accounting role paying $66 (no data allowance), but the catch is—it also requires me to double as the operations person.

Meanwhile, I’m currently working remotely as a Manager, earning over $200 (excluding data allowance), and I also have several years of solid accounting experience under my belt.

With the clear pay gap and extra responsibilities, do you think this new offer is worth considering, or should I just reject it outright? 🤔
SportsRe: Nigeria Vs Rwanda: FIFA World Cup Qualifiers (1 - 0) On 6th September 2025 by Hamachi(f): 7:35pm On Sep 06, 2025
True, but football doesn’t really work like that. Even the best players need a functional system and supporting cast to shine. CR7 with Portugal didn’t “single-handedly” win Euro 2016—he had Pepe, Nani, Moutinho, and a coach who built a structure around him. Same for Alphonso Davies with Canada; he had a disciplined team and a clear style of play.

Osimhen and Lookman are brilliant, but expecting them to drag the Super Eagles alone is unfair. If the midfield can’t link play, the defense keeps panicking, and the coach has no clear plan, even Ballon d’Or winners would struggle. Football is a team sport first.
SQLmastar:
An abysmal performance from a national side with 2 consecutive African POTY within their ranks (Osimhen and Lookman).
Let them prove their quality by carrying the whole team to glory...single handedly.
CR7 did it with Portugal in 2013, Dwight Yorke did it with Trinidad in 2005. And more recently, Antony Davies did it with Canada in 2022.
SportsRe: Nigeria Vs Rwanda: FIFA World Cup Qualifiers (1 - 0) On 6th September 2025 by Hamachi(f): 7:26pm On Sep 06, 2025
I hear you, but I don’t fully agree. Yes, the performance was flat, and the midfield lacked spark, but going back to 3-4-3 isn’t automatically the solution. That system worked in flashes at the World Cup, true, but football isn’t static—teams evolve, players change, and opponents adapt.

For me, the bigger issue isn’t the formation, it’s the coaching and execution. Even if we switch to wing-backs, who’s guaranteeing that the crosses will suddenly improve? Ola Aina and Oyemechi can bomb forward, but if the delivery is still poor, Osimhen will keep starving for service.

And let’s be real—dropping to a 3-man defence might make us look solid on paper, but we don’t have the most reliable centre-backs right now. Playing three at the back exposes us if one defender switches off. In fact, sticking to 4-3-3 could work if the midfield is balanced properly. Instead of forcing Iwobi into a No. 10 role, why not pair him with a proper ball-winner and a box-to-box runner? That way, he has freedom to link play without the burden of carrying creativity alone.

Also, let’s not throw Moses Simon completely under the bus. Yeah, his final ball frustrates sometimes, but he’s still the only one consistently stretching defences. If he sharpens that decision-making, Osimhen benefits massively.

The truth is, no system works if the players don’t understand each other’s movement. That’s not a formation issue, that’s chemistry and coaching. Whether it’s 4-3-3 or 3-4-3, until the midfielders start connecting with the forwards and we train to move as a unit, Osimhen will always look isolated.

So I’d say instead of tearing down the 4-3-3, fix the midfield roles, drill combinations, and build chemistry. Once that’s in place, even the so-called “rubbish crosses” start turning into assists.
Seunfretty:
Its crazy u know....we were winning 1-0...and the guyz were hailing the keeper for wasting time ...is that how bad we have turn...how many clean link ups did we have today...I can't count anytime we played the ball smoothly from the back and got into the opposition box or even creating a good one on one from the flanks

The truth is we need to stop this Osimhen clamour ....who is going to give him that through ball....who is going to give those good cross from the wing ...I mean "good crosses" ...not the rubbish Moses Simon is doing

Our midfielder is flat ...we don't have that creative spark...hence in my opinion and if anyone should ask me ..we need to revert back to the 3-4-3 we were playing at the last world cup...at least with that we can have numerical advantage on the flanks and keep crossing the ball since that's all we can do to get chances ...

This team is not is not equiped to play a 4-3-3...iwobi is never a no10 ..he Is only good in a free role picking the ball and progressing it will fast passes ...he can also play a wide midfielder too...

The team should simply go back to the wing back strategy ...ola aina can play as the right wing back ...and oyemechi on the left ..we can crowd the box ...with that we can even play 2 strikers if things are not working

Look man can also play well in the system ..he isn't a winger passey but an inward forward ...

This team isn't sync ...they don't know each other's movements ...they are not a unit...but the last nations cup they looked a unit with the 3-4-3

CrimeRe: Man Caught Groping A Woman In Public Bus (Video) by Hamachi(f): 3:11pm On Sep 06, 2025
When someone is caught in the act, society should balance accountability with reform.

Accountability: There has to be a real consequence, otherwise people lose trust in the system. Punishment deters others and reinforces social norms.

Rehabilitation: But if all we do is punish without trying to change the behavior, the person often comes out worse and society gains nothing long-term.

Context matters: For serious crimes (violence, fraud, abuse of public trust), the law should be firm. For smaller offenses or first-time offenders, rehabilitation or restorative justice can be more effective.

In short: be strict enough to protect society, but wise enough to fix the root problem.
PoliticsRe: Tambuwal Accuses Tinubu Of Destabilising Opposition Parties by Hamachi(f): 8:04am On Sep 06, 2025
For years, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been portrayed publicly as a political strategist — “The Jagaban.” But beneath the surface, some argue that his power doesn’t come merely from building alliances, but from orchestrating systematic destabilisation of any opposition that could challenge his dominance.

My theory goes like this:

1. Divide and Weaken – Whenever an opposition party starts gaining traction, strange cracks suddenly appear: factions emerge, leaders defect, and infighting paralyzes the party. Insiders whisper that Tinubu has perfected the art of quietly funding rival factions within the same opposition group, ensuring that unity never lasts long enough to challenge him.

2. The Trojan Horse Tactic – Over the years, key opposition leaders who seemed to stand firmly against him suddenly cross over, endorse him, or mysteriously lose relevance. This suggests Tinubu plants allies inside opposition ranks, who work slowly from within until the party is torn apart.

3. The Invisible Hand of State Institutions – Even before becoming president, Tinubu allegedly maintained deep influence over law enforcement, judiciary actors, and electoral officials. Whenever an opposition figure became “too loud,” they faced police invitations, legal cases, or financial audits — tools used not for justice, but for intimidation.

4. Media Narratives – Since his days as Lagos governor, Tinubu is believed to have heavily invested in media ownership and loyalty. This ensures that while opposition crises are amplified, his own camp is portrayed as the stable choice. Subtle manipulation of headlines and selective silence helps set the national mood in his favor.

5. The Long Game – Perhaps the most chilling part of this theory is that Tinubu doesn’t fight battles only in the present. He allegedly sets traps years in advance: cultivating politicians, grooming defectors, and destabilising leaders long before elections are even on the horizon. By the time the public notices, the moves have already been made.

In this lens, what we see today — opposition parties in chaos, defections, and endless court cases — isn’t coincidence or “Nigerian politics as usual.” It’s the continuation of a decades-old strategy, one that has allowed Tinubu to get what he wants again and again.

It is worth noting that real estate has often been used as a front for money laundering. A recent example under study is the case of the First Lady, who requested donations for her birthday with the claim that the funds would be used to build a library in Abuja—a project that had already been budgeted for. This is a classical case of money laundering, where legitimate projects are used to mask the illicit flow of funds.

TravelRe: Brand-New $1 Million Luxury Yacht Sinks Minutes After First Launch In Turkey by Hamachi(f): 12:47pm On Sep 05, 2025
Some observers believe the shocking sinking of the Dolce Vento was no accident. How could a brand-new, nearly $1 million luxury yacht, delivered straight from Istanbul, sink just 15 minutes into its maiden voyage?

This point to three possible angles:

1. Insurance Scam Gone Wrong
The yacht was barely off the dock before it went under. Was it intentionally sabotaged so the owner could cash in on a multi-million-dollar insurance claim? The fact that everyone escaped unharmed raises eyebrows—almost as if the sinking was carefully timed.

2. Sabotage by Rivals
Northern Turkey’s yacht industry is fiercely competitive. Some suggest rival shipbuilders or jealous buyers could have tampered with the vessel during delivery, ensuring it would capsize on its first outing to discredit the manufacturer.

3. A Smuggling Cover-Up
Others whisper that the yacht may have been used to transport more than just champagne and luxury goods. Was the sudden “accident” a way to conceal contraband or destroy sensitive cargo before authorities could discover it? The speed with which officials moved to “secure the area” only fuels suspicion.

At the heart of the mystery is a nagging question: How does a brand-new, professionally built yacht sink faster than a fishing canoe in calm waters? Until the investigation reveals more, whispers of fraud, sabotage, and secret cargo will continue swirling around the Dolce Vento.
PoliticsRe: FG Makes Tax Identification Mandatory For Banking, Allied Services by Hamachi(f): 12:41pm On Sep 05, 2025
While the government’s intention to strengthen tax compliance is understandable, making a Tax Identification Number (Tax ID) compulsory for basic financial services such as banking, insurance, and stock investments could end up punishing ordinary Nigerians more than it benefits the economy.

Millions of Nigerians are still outside the tax net, and many operate in the informal sector where income is unstable and poorly documented. Forcing them to obtain a Tax ID before they can open a bank account or access financial services could push people further away from the formal economy, defeating the very goal of broadening the tax base.

Instead of compulsion, government should first build trust and simplicity in the tax system. Nigerians already feel burdened by multiple taxes and levies, often without seeing the benefits in infrastructure, healthcare, or security. Until accountability and service delivery improve, making Tax IDs mandatory for financial inclusion may look less like reform and more like another barrier.

True progress will come from policies that encourage voluntary compliance, supported by technology, awareness, and incentives — not by shutting the door of the banking hall against those who are already struggling to survive.
PoliticsRe: Cooking Gas Price Drops 17.4% To ₦11,875 – Investigation by Hamachi(f): 12:37pm On Sep 05, 2025
They want us to believe that the average price of cooking gas in July was over N20,000 for a 12.5kg cylinder, yet by August it supposedly dropped to N11,875. That’s a whopping difference of almost 9,000 naira in just one month. But does this reflect the reality in our markets? Absolutely not.

Go to any gas plant today and ask the attendants — a kilogram of gas still sells between N950 and N1,020, depending on location. Multiply that by 12.5kg and you’re paying anywhere from N11,875 to N12,750. That’s the real market rate people are experiencing, not the inflated figures NBS is publishing.

So how does the same NBS report claim Nigerians were paying N20,609.48 in July? The math doesn’t add up. If 1kg was around N1,000, then a 12.5kg refill couldn’t have realistically cost more than N12,500 to N13,000. Where did the extra N7,000–8,000 come from?

This is why many Nigerians don’t trust official statistics — they often reflect paperwork and bureaucracy, not the daily struggle of ordinary families. The truth is simple: while prices have eased slightly compared to last year, they are still biting hard for the average household. A family that refills once or twice a month still spends nearly N25,000 on gas alone.

Instead of releasing contradictory reports, what people want to see are policies that genuinely bring down energy costs, not just statistics that don’t match what’s happening in the market.

CareerRe: I Need Career Advice by Hamachi(f): 12:22pm On Sep 05, 2025
Key Questions to Ask Yourself:

1. Risk Appetite: Do you thrive under pressure, or do you prefer stability?
2. Career Goals: Do you want a long-term banking career, or is this just a stepping stone?
3. Side Hustles/Future Plans: Would more money but less time suit your goals, or is balance more valuable right now?
4. Savings & Security: Could you survive 6–12 months if you lost the commercial bank job due to not meeting targets?

My twokobo:

If your long-term goal is career growth in banking/finance → take the commercial bank role. It positions you better, and even if it’s tough, one year of RM experience at a big bank looks powerful on a CV.

If your goal is financial stability, peace of mind, and flexibility to build other streams of income → stay at the MFB. That stress-free 210k could be your base while you build something else.

A smart strategy could be: accept the new role, but aggressively save/invest the pay difference for the first year. That way, even if you exit later, you’ll have a financial buffer.
portable106:
I need some advice. I’m currently working with a tier 1 mfb in Nigeria, earning 210k monthly with no targets. Jobs/VacanciesOne Of The Challenges I’ve Observed With Some Chartered Accountants In Nigeria by Hamachi(op): 6:08pm On Aug 28, 2025
One of the challenges I’ve observed with some chartered accountants is that once they complete their ICAN journey, they tend to relax, assuming there is nothing more to learn. I call this premature satisfaction.

From my experience working in a federal hospital, I once witnessed a recruitment exercise where 12 doctors were needed, yet over 60 doctors showed up for the interview. This shows that your earlier comparison with lawyers and doctors is not entirely correct, because, just like in accounting, there are unemployed doctors, lawyers, and even pharmacists.

Now, let’s bring it home: how many ACAs are truly skilled in the use of modern accounting software? Without proficiency in tools like SAP, one cannot thrive in sectors like oil and gas. That is why smart accounting graduates, after earning their ACA, don’t pursue another master’s in accounting. Instead, they pivot to fields like Data Analytics or Data Science, because that is the new frontier.

Truth be told, some of my HR colleagues in big firms have shared how disappointed they often get during interviews with chartered accountants. Many struggle to explain something as basic as the disposal of assets, payroll management, or even fundamental IFRS standards, yet they carry the ACA title. This is why I always emphasize the need to scale up.

Opportunities abound for ACAs who are smart and versatile. For example:

Teaching IGCSE: Some ACAs charge as much as ₦70,000 per student, with 6–7 students, teaching less than 4 hours weekly. I know this firsthand because I’m involved in it myself.

Registering Businesses: Immediately after induction, you can register as an agent with CAC. Business registrations fetch between ₦60,000 and above per client. I speak from experience.

School Accounting Systems: Many private schools are in need of proper accounting structures. Setting up or upgrading their systems can earn you as much as ₦300,000 per school, opportunities your ICAN ID card can easily unlock. I’ve personally benefitted from this.

Some chartered accountants earn in foreign currency by assisting international students with accounting and finance-related assignments and projects.

These are just a few avenues beyond the conventional monthly salary. My brother, the accounting profession remains one of the best in the world, if only you are ready to SCALE UP!

For me, I am proud to be an accountant and a distinguished Chartered Accountant. But I must emphasize this: your ICAN certificate is not an end in itself, but a means to an end.

Yours in the profession,
Oluwamuyiwa, ACA
