Try and comprehend. The state administrators were directed to give them the rewards.... The federal government carried out their part of the promise. Do u expect Buhari to have used his own money to build houses and give financial rewards to the different players?

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has assured 1985 Golden Eaglets, who first won the U-17 World Cup, that his administration will fulfill the promises made 30 years ago during a reception held at Dodan Barracks with the players, in celebration of their outstanding victory.

In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari said he decided to fulfill the pledge, having been informed that a directive, which he gave to the state governments at the time had not been complied with.

“It is a pity that those promises were never fulfilled. It is unfortunate that our players, who did us proud on the world stage went unrewarded for their efforts, despite a presidential directive to the state administrators that they be honored in their home states.”

According to Shehu, of the various promises made to the players at the time, only the Federal Government fulfilled its own commitment by sponsoring the players on a trip to watch the 1986 World Cup, which took place in Mexico. The houses, scholarships and naming of streets after each player were supposed to have been catered for by the states.

The Presidential media aide noted that shortly after the commitment was given, General Muhammadu Buhari was replaced, and despite repeated representations made to succeeding governments by the players and their officials, the promises were left unfulfilled.

“I apologize for whatever embarrassment and disillusionment in your country these raised and then dashed hopes may have caused you. My government will do all within its power to remedy the situation”, he assured.

Presenting Jonathan wasn't the mistake. PDP woulda lost even if they presented a northerner. Truth is, they had it coming for long. Impunity can't reign forever. The people were tired of the patty and they showed it on March 28 and April 11 2015..... Tho Jonathan's cluelessness didn't help matters...... But I can still remember GEj winning Adamawa state(A core northern state and Aisha Buhari's state in 2011). PDP is dead and gone. Only a Change of name can reinvigorate it. Ciao

PoliticsFielding Jonathan, A Mistake – Dr. Raymond Dokpesi by handie(op): 5:46pm On Nov 10, 2015
The Peoples Democratic Party has asked Nigerians to forgive the party for its inability to meet their yearnings in the past 16 years.

The party said it was aware that Nigerians were angry with it because of some actions it took in the past 16 years when it was in power.

It said the party was ready to mend fences and this was why it was organising a national conference where all issues affecting the former ruling party would be discussed.

Chairman, National Planning Committee of the conference, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi, said this at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

Dokpesi, a chieftain of the party from Edo State, was flanked at the briefing by members of the planning committee for the conference.

The defeat of the party in the last general election came to its leaders as a surprise.

Apart from losing the presidency to the All Progressives Congress, the PDP also lost in some states where it was hitherto popular.

Dokpesi attributed the defeat to many errors committed by the party and its leadership, but asked Nigerians to forgive and forget.

He said, “We are aware that there were errors we made. We admit that we made mistakes and we have not met the expectation of Nigerians and we tender unreserved apologies for these mistakes.

“You must have seen the Ike Ekweremadu report on why we are apologising. There was no internal democracy, there was impunity within the party and there was no level-playing ground for members of the party.

“Zoning principles of the party were abandoned and a gamut of all other issues, which will come out during the conference and for all these and the people who have been offended, for people whose toes were stepped upon, we also tender unreserved apology.

“These are the reasons why we are begging and apologising. We want to assure every founding member of the party that we deviated from their visions, and that’s why we are going to have all our founding fathers like Adamu Ciroma, Dr. Alex Ekwueme and other members of the G.34, to come and talk to us at the conference.

“For every and any mistake we have made, I therefore say, we tender our unreserved apologies.”

Asked if the mistake of the party included the fielding of the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, as its presidential candidate in 2011 and 2015, he said it was wrong for the party to have abandoned zoning in preference for the former President.

Dokpesi said the party ought to have allowed the northern part of the country to complete its term when former President Umaru Yar’Adua died in 2010.

He said, “The party in 2010 and 2011, made the first round of mistake of not allowing the north to complete its term.

“That was when the party gave a special favour for the then President who came to compete the term of Yar’Adua to be allowed one term to finish.

“The same small leaders of the party came forward in 2015 to state again and refused to return the party to allow the north to field the party’s presidential candidate, they manipulated the party to do the same.”

He added that, “Make no mistake, the PDP is aware that there were errors made along the way. We admit that at certain times in our past, mistakes have been made, we did not meet the expectations of Nigerians.

“But the past is exactly what it is. While we should not forget the past and its errors, We must look forward and begin to show true leadership within and outside our party.”

He said the forthcoming conference would be used to reinvigorate, re-engineer and restructure the party, which he said would be handed over to the youth.

PoliticsInauguration: Buhari Limits Ministers’ Guests To Two-punch by handie(op): 6:36am On Nov 09, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari has confirmed that his cabinet would be inaugurated on Wednesday and he has ruled that each minister-designate can only be accompanied by two guests to the inauguration. This was contained in a statement on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina. Adesina, in the statement confirmed SUNDAY PUNCH’s exclusive story that Buhari would on Wednesday inaugurate his ministers and administer oaths of office on the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as well as INEC’s five national commissioners on Monday (today). His statement read in part, “President Muhammadu Buhari will officially inaugurate a new Federal Executive Council on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. “Before the commencement of the inaugural session of the council, the ministers-designate will take their oaths of office in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa. “The swearing-in ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 Hours and the ministers-designate are expected to be seated in the Council Chambers by 09:30 Hours at the latest. “Each minister-designate can only be accompanied to the swearing-in ceremony by a maximum of two guests.” Restricting guests of new ministers to two during inauguration is a departure from the jamboree that usually attend such events in the past when the lucky appointees were often accompanied to their inauguration by a crowd of family members, colleagues, friends and associates. During the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, ministers were allowed to attend their inauguration with their spouses, children, colleagues and their immediate family members. In some cases, traditional rulers and state governors also accompany the ministers to their inauguration. In fact there were instances during the administrations of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umar Yar’Adua that traditional drummers and dancers accompanied ministers to their inauguration though most of the guests were always restricted to the Pilot Gate in the outer ring of the Presidential Villa. The inauguration usually takes place inside the Council Chambers. When asked what informed Buhari’s decision to restrict the number of guests per minister- designate to two, Adesina said he would not be able to answer the question because he was not privy to what the situation was before the present administration came on board. “Yes, ministers-designate are entitled to a maximum of two guests each. I don’t know the reason behind this and you also know that I do not know what the situation used to be before this administration,” he said. Meanwhile, despite the decision of the election petition tribunal that declared her the duly elected as Governor of Taraba State on Saturday, Aisha Alhassan, will still be inaugurated as minister alongside 35 others on Wednesday, The PUNCH has learnt. The tribunal led by Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar had nullified the election of Governor Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to immediately withdraw his certificate of return and issue a new one to Alhassan, who is currently the minister-designate representing Taraba State. Alhassan was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the April 11election. When asked if the President would still administer oath of office on Alhassan despite the tribunal’s judgement, the presidential spokesman replied in the affirmative. Adesina said the Saturday judgement was just the first level and disputes arising from governorship elections and that the case could still get to the Supreme Court. “The judgement was only delivered on Saturday. That was just the first level. The issue can still get up to the Supreme Court,” he said. Adesina’s statement on Sunday added, “Also, following the confirmation of their nominations by the Senate, President Buhari will tomorrow (Monday) at the Presidential Villa, preside over the swearing-in of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, and five others as National Commissioners of INEC. “The swearing-in of Prof. Yakubu, Mrs. Amina Zakari, Mr. Solomon Adedeji Soyebi, Prof. Antonia Taiye Okoosi-Simbine, Dr. Muhammed Mustafa Lecky and Alhaji Baba Shettima Arfo is scheduled for 11:00 Hours in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa.” The 36 ministers to be inaugurated on Wednesday are Alhassan (Taraba); Udoma Udo Udoma (Akwa Ibom); Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti); Audu Ogbeh (Benue); Ogbonnaya Onu (Ebonyi); Osagie Ehanire (Edo); Abdulrahman Dambazau (Kano); Lai Mohammed (Kwara); Amina Mohammed (Gombe); Suleiman Adamu (Jigawa); and Ibrahim Jibril (Nasarawa) The list also include Babatunde Fashola (Lagos); Ibe Kachikwu (Delta); Abubakar Malami (Kebbi); Chris Ngige (Anambra); Solomon Dalong (Plateau); Kemi Adeosun (Ogun); Hadi Sirika (Katsina); Adebayo Shittu (Oyo); Khadija Bukar Ibrahim (Yobe); Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); James Ocholi (Kogi); Baba Mustapha (Borno); Claudius Daramola (Ondo); Heineken Lokpobiri (Bayelsa) ; and Usani Uguru (Cross River). The remaining ministers are Munsur Dan Ali (Zamfara); Zainab Shamshuna Ahmed (Kaduna); Geoffrey Onyeama (Enugu); Abubakar Buari (Niger); Isaac Adewole (Osun); Aisha Abubakar (Sokoto); Mohammed Bello (Adamawa); Adamu Adamu (Bauchi); Anthony Anwuka (Imo); and Okechukwu Enelamah (Abia).

PoliticsPDP Is In Coma With No Doctor, Only ‘nurse Metuh’ Is Treating It – Ndume by handie(op): 10:15pm On Nov 08, 2015
The Senate Leader, Senator Mohammed Ali
Ndume has predicted that many Senators
elected under the platform of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, will soon be cross-
carpeting to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Disclosing this in an interview with
Leadership, Ndume based this claim on his
belief that the, “PDP is in a coma and only God
knows when it will recover. As you can see now,
they do not have any doctor or pharmacist and
the only nurse is Olisa Metuh.”
While dismissing speculations that some
APC members in the Senate are planning to
join the PDP as a way of securing the party’s
ticket, he said, “I am part of some of the APC
members trying to convince some of them
over to move over to our side and they will
soon move in their numbers in the Senate.
“So, when you tell me that APC members are
going over to the PDP, it is strange to me
because like I said earlier, I am trying to
convince some of my colleagues over to the
APC. And you know that electoral shock is
worse than electric shock. That was what PDP
suffered and they had a relapse again by the
decisions at the tribunals so, we do not know
when they will get out of it,” the APC chief
stated.
