Politics / Covid19: What Next After The Lock Down? by handie(m): 6:54am On Apr 20, 2020
On March 29 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari in a nationwide broadcast announced a 14 days lock down in two states and the FCT in a bid to curb the spread of the corona virus that's ravaging countries across the globe. This lock down was further extended by 14 days on the 14th of April.
Latest data released by the NCDC reveals that there has been an increase in the number of cases and this can be attributed to the increase in the nation's testing capacity. Despite this, the general consensus is that there's still an inadequate number of testing facilities. Bearing in mind the precarious state of our economy, my question is, what step do we take at the expiration of the lock down order? Should the lock down be extended? If yes, how do people whose businesses have been closed for the last 3 weeks survive? Should the lock down be relaxed? Won't a relaxation lead to a reverse of the modest gains achieved in the fight against Covid19? Is there a middle ground?
Politics / Re: Likely Successors Of Abba Kyari As Buhari's Chief Of Staff - Punch by handie(m): 2:06pm On Apr 19, 2020
The hawks will all want someone who'll be pliable. Don't think Abba Kyari was all that bad. Maybe due to his loyalty to Buhari he made many enemies. As for Kingibe, I think he's too loud and ambitious for the role of COS. AB actually did it well.... Hameed Ali might just be the best choice.

Politics / Re: Abba Kyari: How FG Spent Millions Of Naira In Trying To Save Buhari's COS - SR by handie(m): 10:09am On Apr 18, 2020
Well, individually, I believe he has d funds to take care of himself and even if it happens that the federal government actually expended funds in taking care of him, why begrudge that decision? He contracted the virus on official assignment. As for those gloating at his death, remember we are all humans and we'll all die. Say what you may, but Abba Kyari was loyal to his friend and boss and did everything to protect his boss' interest (including standing in as an object of vilification). I pray to have loyal friends like Abba. And one amazing fact is at least 70% of those celebrating his death won't achieve what he achieved in his life time. Didn't say he was perfect (who is?) But, may his soul rest in peace and may the almighty forgive his transgressions

Even if the lock down is relaxed, it'll take awhile for education for our educational institutions to resume. Not with all the crowds in our classrooms and lecture theatres. It's just unsafe for now. Let's hope schools can resume by July

Health / Re: Coronavirus: Northern Nigeria At High Risk — Gates Foundation by handie(m): 7:40am On Apr 17, 2020
In addition to the lack of adequate medical facilities in the North, there's a high level of illiteracy and religious fundamentalism..... All of which places the region at risk. About two weeks ago, some youths in one of the northern states went on rampage and burnt a police station because the police were implementing a directive against large gathering which prevented them from going for prayers. To stop a rapid spread of the disease in the North (if not already too late) government should explore the possibility of using the indigenous channels of communication and also coopt the religious institutions into spreading messages about ways to prevent the spread

Kogi governor just ordered the opening of churches and mosque...!!
The guy just want to make sure mass infection happen in that state...!!

All state surrounding Kogi already got and Kogi like Burundi is shouting we don't have the virus simply because no single test kit is available in that state.

I believe the virus is already in Kogi but the irresponsible government still went ahead to open mosque, churches and also markets all areas they know would aid in spreading the virus fast...

Atimes I wonder if APC is anti People...the coming days would tell though...RIP in advance to all those that would die as a result of this irresponsible decision...!!

All in all, if this virus get of hand then Nigeria is doom and all the years of looting and misgovernance would come.back to bite us all in the ass...both the weak and strong, the rich and the poor...!!
When I heard the news of Kogi reopening the worship centers, I was honestly perplexed. Like, what are these guys smoking over there? Even if Yahaya Bello no wise, he no get advisers? With it's proximity to Abuja and Edo, there ain't no way Kogi state is Covid 19 free. Instead of trying to get testing kits, that bumbling idiot is reopening mosques and churches to increase the spread
Politics / Re: Buhari, Task Force Meet Today Over Nationwide Lockdown by handie(m): 11:47am On Apr 10, 2020
Seeing what's happening in the US(NYC in particular) and countries in Europe, Nigeria is sitting on a ticking time bomb with our lackadaisical attitude. An explosion of cases is imminent and I believe there are more cases in Nigeria. Our lack of testing equipment is the main reason for the relatively low numbers reported so far. Though it'd bite really hard, there should be an extension of the lock down and Edo state should be included(With the volume of traffic that comes into Edo from Lagos, I really don't understand why Obaseki left the Edo to Lagos border open). While We'd suffer in d long term, na who dey life fit make money

While I empathize with everyone affected by this lock down and I understand the huge sacrifices this entails, there's no substitute to it. While I don't mean to sound like an alarmist, the truth is this disease hasn't really started wrecking havoc in Nigeria. D low reportage of cases is as a result of inadequate testing kits(there was a spike in number of cases after Jack Ma's donation). Again, I feel Germany, The US and Israel's evacuation of their citizens out of the country even when it has less cases than the home countries is tied to this reason. As such, while d lock down is unpalatable and will likely take a huge toll on us, it is best we obey it. Na ear we go take hear insha Allah. In d meantime, stay at home

Say what you may about Major General Muhammadu Buhari but he genuinely mean well for the country and his name will forever be remembered in Nigeria.
Before you go on a criticism spree, take a minute and ask urself if Nigeria would have been better if Jonathan was the president between 2015 and 2019 and also, ask yourself if Atiku would have been the right option (Taking into cognisance what we know of the ex VP)

Three seasons ago when Hazard's form dipped terribly, Eden scored less than 8 goals the whole season, did that diminish his status as an exceptional player. It's life, all players must experience a drop in form/consistency every now and then. The fact still remains that Alonso, like Marcelo has never been an spectacular defender but offensively they offer way more than some attacking players. Your Alonso argument is analogous to Marcelo having zero technical because he isn't the best at defending one on one situations. That's pure fallacy. lol I'm not even a Chelsea fan, and I'm defending Alonso like this.. wetin concern me sef..mtcheww.

OMG... Do you even watch football.. Given, he isn't very good at defending, but how can you say Alonso has got zero technical ability. A fullback who scores 10 goals a season possesses no technical abilities. The best setpiece taker at Chelsea... C'mon man.
Can you trust Alonso to go past a player on a one on one encounter? Can u trust Alonso to defend against a player on a one on one encounter? Can u trust Alonso to make a successful tackle in or around the box? Set pieces? When last did he score one? We're talking 2019 Alonso and not the 2016/17 version? How many set pieces did he score the whole of last season? Do u know the number of set pieces leading to goals that Alonso has conceded this season?

Not true ...Alonso weakness is that he is sluggish. . He has technique and A very good crosses too. He scores and gives assist . But he is too slow for current Chelsea style of play ....
Oga, Alonso has nothing.... U say good crosses? D same Alonso wey cross ball enter throw in against Ajax? Dude has zero defensive awareness and his attacking play is shit. He's currently Chelsea's worst player...... Closely followed by his colleague in arms Ross Barkley
Sports / Re: Orangutan Shakes, Hugs And Pecks Marcos Alonso by handie(m): 7:41am On Nov 15, 2019
Mtcheew. He should just enter the zoo and stay with the Orangutan Abeg.... Maybe he'll be a bit more useful there than he is on a football pitch. Zero pace, Zero technical ability, he can't even pass the ball or make a tackle. How Alonso became a footballer should be one of the world's mysteries.

Politics / Re: Governorship Elections: Jonathan And Buhari Cautions Against Intimidation by handie(m): 7:04am On Nov 15, 2019
Honestly, I'm terribly scared of this forthcoming Kogi elections. Yahaya Bello is one politician who takes delight in violence and he won't stop at nothing to achieve his aims. The PDP and it's candidate also are too desperate for power. Not being a pessimist but the drums of war are playing in Kogi. Which brings to the fore, the question of why someone will be soo desperate to 'serve'. Why should someone be ready to kill the people he supposedly wants to serve? Unless there be moves to make elective offices less attractive, violence will always be the hallmark of political contests. Still on still, I blame Obasanjo for the do or die politics Nigeria is currently practicing. Yeah, violence in elections had been a recurring issue in Nigeria since the 60's but this guy had a chance to build on the 1993 and 1999 template. But nah, he'd rather use the 2003 elections to drag Nigeria back to 1983

No Northern politician as of today is more popular than Buhari but Kwakwaso is quite popular.

The last governorship election in Kano is a story for another day.
Yes, Kwakwanso is quite Popular but, as a presidential candidate, does he have an appeal beyond the North? Can he compete financially and charismatically against say ElRufai or Tinubu? I believe Atiku still has more of a nationwide spread(Tho age won't be in his favor come 2023). This recent election shows that and had it not been for the fact that he was contesting against Buhari who can be aptly termed king of the north, he may just have won

Is he? Need I tell u that as an incumbent governor, Kwakwanso lost reelection in 2003? In 2011, he won due to d internal wranglings in Kano CPC and his senatorial election in 2015 can be attributed to the Buhari factor. D only time Kwakwanso has stood independently against a formidable Buhari party, he lost woefully. Does this point to a popular candidate?
