Religious Intolerance and Military Brutality: The Harrowing Eid Day Incident in Iseyin. BY; TIJANI AHMAD ADEBAYO On the Eid day of 2024 in Iseyin, Nigeria, a tragic event unfolded, highlighting the alarming issues of religious discrimination and brutality. A Muslim brother was reportedly attacked by a group of soldiers, allegedly called by a pastor living adjacent to the victim's residence. The incident spiraled into a scene of violence, leaving the victim, some of his wives, and even children beaten and injured. This deeply disturbing act shines a light on the deep-rooted issues of religious prejudice and the alarming misuse of power that has plagued Nigeria in recent times. The incident reportedly took place on a day of great religious significance for Muslims, Eid al-Adha, a day offering of sacrifice by killing Ram and its likes is done in worshipping Almighty Allah. The family in question was preparing to celebrate this important day in peace when they were brutally assaulted by soldiers who were allegedly called by a Christian pastor residing nearby. The soldiers, acting on religious bias rather than any legitimate concern, broke into the residence and proceeded to physically assault the family members, sparing no one, not even the children. This act of aggression is a stark reminder of the religious discrimination that persists in many parts of the world today. The Christian pastor's alleged involvement in the incident suggests a deep-seated intolerance and hostility towards Muslims, which unfortunately has become all too common. This sort of bigotry has no place in a civilized society and must be condemned in the strongest terms. Furthermore, the actions of the soldiers involved in the incident highlight a disturbing trend of military personnel abusing their power. Rather than protecting the citizens they are sworn to serve, these soldiers reportedly acted on their prejudices, taking the law into their own hands and brutalizing innocent people. Such behavior not only tarnishes the reputation of the military but also undermines the trust citizens have in their protectors. This tragic incident serves as a wake-up call for all of us. It reminds us that we must remain vigilant in the face of religious discrimination and abuse of power. We must stand together and condemn such acts of violence, advocating for the rights and dignity of every individual, regardless of their religious affiliation. Religious tolerance is a cornerstone of any peaceful and progressive society. We must strive to cultivate understanding and respect for all religions, fostering an environment where people of different faiths can coexist in harmony. Simultaneously, we must hold those in positions of power accountable for their actions, ensuring that they act responsibly and impartially in the discharge of their duties. The tragic incident in Iseyin on Eid day 2024 is a grim reminder of the work that still needs to be done to eradicate religious discrimination and ensure the responsible use of power. We must learn from this tragedy and commit ourselves to building a world where people of all faiths can live together in peace and security. Only then can we truly honor the victims of this senseless act of violence. However respective and concerned authorities are hereby signaled to act and decide on this, providing relevant remedies to the victims and incurring justice to the society as Honorable justice Chucwudifu oputa JSC as he then was duely said that; "justice is not one way traffic neither it's a two way traffic but a three way; Justice to the victim, the accused and the state". Actions are hereby called to be made in deterring such tragic occurrence from the society and discrimination whether by religion or ethnic should be completely demolished as we've all vowed to live in unity and harmony irrespective of ethnics or religion, Nigeria is our dear nation.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is a doubt for the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final against Spanish visitors Granada. Rashford, who scored the opener in the 2-0 first-leg win, missed training on Wednesday with an ankle injury. "I'll have to give him as much time as possible - his foot is still a little bit sore, but fingers crossed," said United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Skipper Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay are all suspended. The trio were booked during last Thursday's first leg in Andalusia, ruling them out of the return at Old Trafford. If United maintain their lead and go through, they will face either Dutch leaders Ajax or Italian side Roma in the last four. United change colour of seat coverings in attempt to improve Old Trafford form 'Pogmentary' - Amazon sign deal for Pogba film "It's never a positive thing to not have every player available but we've got players ready to deputise and come into the team of course," Solskjaer said. "It was a booking amnesty after this quarter-final so we hoped to get them through, but there were some easy yellow cards that the ref handed out. "We're ready to deal with that." Wales winger Daniel James is back in the United squad after missing Sunday's 3-1 win at Tottenham through injury. Centre-back Eric Bailly is still out after testing positive for coronavirus while on international duty with the Ivory Coast, meaning 18-year-old Will Fish has been added to Solskjaer's squad to bolster his defensive options in the absence of centre-back Maguire and left-back Shaw. France striker Anthony Martial and defender Phil Jones are still out injured. Granada are expected to recall former Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado after he sat out their 2-1 win at Real Valladolid in La Liga. Portuguese defender Domingos Duarte is banned, while on-loan Chelsea winger Kenedy is an injury doubt. Granada facing uphill task on English debut - stats Manchester United have won only nine of their 27 home matches against Spanish visitors (D12 L6), and just one of the past 10 (D5 L4). United have been eliminated from European competition by La Liga opposition in each of the past three seasons - by Sevilla in the 2017-18 Champions League last 16 and in last season's Europa League semi-final, and by Barcelona in the 2018-19 Champions League quarter-final. United are unbeaten in their past 16 home games in the Europa League (W12 D4), winning five in a row before the draws against Real Sociedad and AC Milan this year. United have been successful in all 19 European ties in which they won the first leg away from home. Granada, having qualified for European football for the first time this season, have never played a competitive match in England. Marcus Rashford is one game short of his 50th appearance in European competition. United striker Edinson Cavani needs one more goal to reach 50 in European competition. |
