Why would you be afraid of hell? The bible talks about hell not to put fear into anybody but to let people know that there is a reward for every good and bad deed.

How do you think people feel in a system like our country where killers are celebrated and walk free. Where people know they can do wrong and get away with it.

There is a reason why all religion, beliefs whether mythological, historical or philosophical agree with the concept of hell.

If you put all of these religions together, there is always a similarity.. they all talk about good and bad.

It is no coincidence. The truth is we didn't just happen to live on earth. It is no coincidence that humans are the only species that can sew dresses, make aeroplanes, speak in thousands of languages, and even make robots.

What most atheists want to believe is that everyone will turn to manure on the earth surface and seize to exist.

Even before Christianity or Islam came to Africa or Nigeria. We knew people could contact the dead. There have been so many experiences of the world outside our own existence. If this is true, then there is a possibility that we will be accountable for our deeds.

I don't think you should be afraid of hell, I think you should be afraid of doing bad things. As for sin I believe everyone sins and nobody is perfect. But there are some things that your inner conscience warns you not to do, those are the things you should be afraid of.

I think before anyone can comfortably call himself or herself an atheist, they should explore all beliefs and I don't mean reading books. Go and explore the supernatural and you will certainly see the truth yourself.

I actually stumbled on the popular post of that guy from 2016. "From pastor to atheist". It shook me. But I noticed he has been off for more than a year. Is he alive? Hope he's not dead and in hell.

I want to tell you something I noticed. You see those old thread that talks about atheism. I found out those people supporting the motion, their "last seen" is always like 3 years + and the ones trying to convert them are still active or is it me just imagining things?

I like the concept of atheism but I'm still afraid of hell because all my life I have heard things like "heaven and hell is real" "sinners shall burn in hell forever and ever"

Why did those atheist suddenly disappear? Did they die because God got angry with them?
Though I still see some from years back still active like HopefulLandlord (maybe God likes him and wants him to change)

and is it true the CEO of Nairaland is an atheist too. Because I'm sick and tired of religion, prayers, Bible reading and fasting and my life hasn't moved forward. I like the Idea of being responsible for yourself and getting things done without praying and fasting to an invisible being. I don't just want to die and wake up in hell and please I'm not looking for a way to sin. Morally without pride I'm much better than some pastors... I just don't want to die like a chicken and wake up as a roasting barbecue in hell. Help me get rid of this fear o have been brainwashed with right from birth...

i understand your fear and honestly it is really difficult to break free from religion. fear remains the strongest force that keeps people in religion. you would stop fearing when you realize that religion makes NO SENSE. for example i used to believe in ghosts and spirits and stuff like that, but no matter what i do, no spirit would ever appear. i once had a muslim family friend around and he laughed at my "stupidity" of not believing in demons so he challenged me to summon some evil spirit using some Arabic incantations.
now i have to lock myself in the toilet and recite this Arabic Incantations and he claims it is 100% guaranteed that the spirits would appear to me. Lol.
i took the challenge and guess what no spirit appeared. the guy was genuinely shocked and was staring at me with fear and awe in his eyes when i came out of the toilet. well guess spirits dont exist.
everything you think are proofs that support your beliefs have been debunked but the problem is religious people actually dont want to let go because religion defines them, it is scary starting afresh without religion.

so tell me why are you still a christian?

i just logged in today to find this thread.
Well here is what happened to me.
hahn has an idea.

I started a crypto company (name withheld)
i was able to assemble guys from around the world, Germany, Slovenia, China, Indonesia and of cos my country Nigeria. we had other guys on board from Russia and France.

The whole idea kicked off with funding from a friend here in Nairaland (also very active in the religion section) i have lost contact with him now and his account is deactivated. i betrayed this man and i have not recovered from the guilt ever since.
everything was going really well with the crypto company, but i messed up big time.

now we could have become a big crypto exchange by now, got an offer of $10 million to sell the company to an Australian Oil Mogul but all the legal paper works were not in place, i was supposed to have registered the company in Singapore but i was busy wasting the funds i had at hand because i was looking for about $200,000 to list on some major exchanges at that time, but i was not lucky in all the risks i took. i lost money, lost friends, lost the opportunity lost everything and most expecially lost my dear nairaland friend.

i think Hahn is the only person here on Nairaland that knows about the whole thing.

well, that is what happened to me. been almost 3 years now.

the nairalander i am referring to if he wishes that i come out with the whole story should please get in touch with me. i still owe him and he should know i do not take his support for granted.

I type this out of great and sincere concern for this nation- Nigeria.
As Africans we place a lot of respect on elders and authorities and this is very evident in the regard Nigerians have for their religious leaders and even more obvious when the church is in question.
There is a popular Yoruba adage that says, "ki ni a fi agba se. a fin yan omode je". meaning what is the good of seniority but to use it as an advantage over the younger ones. this is exactly what Nigerian pastors are doing, including you pastor Adeboye. behaving like charlatans (perhaps you are one) using every situation regardless of how dare it is to exalt yourselves rather than use your influence positively.
Your 22nd of march, 2020 broadcast on your Dove TV platform, aimed at reassuring your followers that there was no need for panic. This was indeed very needed as Nigerians need reassurance at this time and a voice of hope to keep moving, but unfortunately your message was severely laced with ARROGANCE, DISHONESTY AND IGNORANCE.

1. You claimed that God told you he would make the world go on a compulsory holiday.
You buttressed this claim by saying that you thought God meant a situation like that of 9/11 2001 when the World Trade Center was Attacked by Al-Quada. This is obviously a blatant bold faced lie. You Pastor Daddy G.O can talk to God the way a man talks with a friend. You even have tea with God occasionally when he is less busy, yet you could not ask God about this so called holiday and you just went ahead and assumed that God meant a situation like 9/11.

2. You arrogantly claim that the world would be forced on holiday as if your own church and members of your own church would not also have to go on this same holiday.

3. You say this situation is only temporary but the virus would not totally vanish. when will it subside?...you dont know. of course you dont know this is because you are being DISHONEST. This prediction is apparent to anyone that has been following international news media such as CNN, Al jazeera, BBC etc.

4. you went ahead to mock your fellow clergy men (Apostle Suleiman and T.B Joshua) for predicting very ridiculously that the virus would disappear. i dont need God to tell me they both goofed on their prediction. your prediction is only better because you use the News to make your own predictions.

5. You are obviously ignorant and also banking on the ignorance of your church members when you claim that God was doing this so that the whole world would know that he is the Almighty. this is totally ignorant because you do not know history. you presume that this is something that has never happened before in history. You and many men of God are capitalizing on the COVID-19 pandemic to spread panic while pretending you are giving hope. you are using fear tactics to scale up this pandemic and make it seem like this is something that has never happened in history. below are a few historic pandemics many Christians are obviously unaware happened.

The 541AD Justinian plague. 25million people died
The 14th century Black Death (Bubonic Plague) 200 million people died (more than half of Europe died)
The 1918 Spanish Flu. Over 50 million people died and 500million people were infected. that was a 3rd of the world population at that time. over 600 thousand people in the united states died.

Your religion has never solved any of the pandemics humanity has suffered and Christians have never been spared in such crisis, so please wipe the smeak of arrogance off your face and humble yourself. if you have nothing better to say, it is better to just keep quiet rather than come out with pride when you are contributing nothing towards the solution.

Apostle Sulaiman asked his church members to stop watching the news. This is a terrible retrogressive instruction.

A certain Prophet Dr. David Kingleo Elijah is claiming that once you bath with salt and water your will be cured of Covid-19. then to prevent it just bath with ordinary water that you have dipped your hand into 7 times while shouting the name of Jesus. This man's message is even worse and i think the DSS should pick him up as his instruction would only make people reckless and spread this even further while disregarding tested methods of preventing the spread.

A certain White Garment church are busy singing and dancing to "Corona be careful na express you dey go."

STOP THE DELUSION THAT GOD NOT SCIENCE WOULD SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.
Science has been our dependable friend through history. science has cured more malaria, polio, eradicated small pox, gave us treatment to cholera, typhoid, diabetes is treated with insulin thanks to science. Science has given sight to those blinded by cataracts and glaucoma.
Scientifically proven methods such quarantine, disinfectant, pest control etc has helped controlled many epidemics and pandemics.
WHAT HAS RELIGION DONE?
HOW HAS RELIGION CONTRIBUTED TO THE CONTROL AND TREATMENT OF ANY DISEASE OR COVID-19 in particular?

You are misleading your members by telling them they cannot be infected.
everything we know about the Corona Virus is through science and everything we are using to fight it are scientific. We would get viable treatment through science and not from the church.

I am appealing to men of god in Nigeria, if they still have any conscience left in them, this is not the time to start competing with each other. this is the time to shut up and let the experts lead the way.

we should be more worried about our healthcare capacity in Nigeria.
We should be more concerned about our economy and the suffering that is ahead for the common man has this country would be unable to provide palliatives the way developed countries are able to.

this is the time for the churches to rather channel their effort in releasing the funds they have locked away to alleviating the suffering of the masses and their members in particular and not competing on irrelevant prophesies that are totally based on what they watch on the news.

I can't speak about the whole world, but having traveled to many countries I can confidently say that for the greater part men and women now have similar rights and opportunities. Of course there are always differences, but these are mainly natural and enrich us as a specie.

Feminism was a glorious and well deserved movement. It is now turning into something else that looks like the fight for women's superiority over everything else.

I live in a country where any wise man should think 10 times before getting married. The laws are so much in favor of women that your life long efforts can be brought to naught 2 seconds after marriage.

I was once an ardent feminist but the story of my own brother opened my eyes for good.

Feminists should ask themselves the question, what is it they are fighting for, and if the fight is still relevant, where and how. In victory, We should learn to stop, else the victory can turn to a defeat.
