Christianity Etc › Re: Man Who Donated His Hotel Building To Catholic Church, Turns Keke Napep Driver by harry509: 9:01pm On Sep 28, 2015 |
Paloma555: Mr Ray Morphy first caught our attention a few weeks ago when he went above and beyond to donate his hotel building in Lafia, Nasarawa State, to a catholic church to have it converted into a hospital for the Internally Displaced Persons.
His extraordinary gesture, was an inspirational act of kindness that didn't go unnoticed.
Morphy recently did something that most Nigerians wouldn't dare attempt. Living the simple life!
In a bid to see what it felt like living the life of an average Nigerian hustler, Morphy took a day out, got hold of a tricycle and pretended to be a real Keke Napep rider.
The shocking reactions he got from passengers pretty much summed up his experience.
Below is how he tells his story:
MY DAY AS A KEKE OPERATOR
"I am back and I had a lot of fun today cruising the city as a keke Operator!
Lots of fun carrying passengers to their destinations and then refusing their money.
Come and see surprise, consternation, wonderment and even fear!
Moreover, I had a blast speaking to passengers with an Oxford accent. Some pitied me when I told them I just returned from UK and since I had no job, I took to keke riding.
Come and see sympathy. Ordinary Nigerians are truly kind and loving people! God bless you all for your kind hearts!
It was fun and I had the pleasure of sharing and interacting with people I would never had met otherwise! Glad I had the brainwave to do this.
A couple of females even shed tears of sympathy for me. They were sad that I came back home from abroad only to become a keke Operator! Women can be so kind!"

Okobaba1: Security operatives attached to the Edo state government arrested one of the drivers in the convoy of Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
Leadership reports that the driver was apprehended on Friday, September 25, over his alleged attempts to break into the account section of Edo state government house.
It was learnt that on Wedenesday evening there was large lodgement of cash, which was probably meant to offset some expenses towards the Sallah festival.
The security operatives were on routine check when they noticed the suspect cutting off protectors in the accounts office. On sighting the operatives, the suspected thief attempted to escape. However, he had already been identified by the security men who followed him up and arrested.
The suspect was transported to the Aideyan police station in Benin.
Meanwhile, a top security source in the government house who disclosed how the incident happened, said that a thorough investigation would be carried out to find out whether the driver acted alone or in concert with others.
Confirming the incident, Stephen Onwuchei, the spokesman of the Edo state police command, said:
“There was a report of such nature. It is still at investigation level. The commissioner of police has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the investigation.
“As I speak with you, the DC State CID should be in Government House to visit the scene of crime.”

Christianity Etc › Re: Nigerians, Road Accidents And The Blood Of Jesus. by harry509: 8:20am On Sep 26, 2015 |
CARLOSZ: https://i0.wp.com/dailytimes.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/fghhhhj.jpg?zoom=2&fit=300%2C300
I sincerely think that as Nigerians, we need to embrace science and technology, study it and understand it as much as we studied and understand religion and faith. It will do us a great deal!
I am devoted Christian, but the way we allow religion and faith kill us is amazing! You board a vehicle from a motor park, with driver, and instead of trying to check and ask questions if the driver is qualified, licensed, fit, not under alcoholic influence we’ll rather prefer to donate monies to fake preachers who board to tell you how people die on road accidents because they did not donate monies to pastors.
They preach and tell you how to cover the driver, vehicle, tyres and steering with the blood of Jesus, and we all shout a loud ‘Amen’.
Why do we derive joy in looking for witches and wizards, when we fail to do the primary things to guaranty our safety? For how long can the blood of Jesus allow decrepit vehicles convey us from Abuja toLagos?
I will prefer we have technical experts visit motor parks, instead of fake pastors, and sensitise passengers on how to spot inexperienced, unlicensed or drunk drivers, and what to check out for before boarding any commercial vehicle. They should advice technically on the conditions of vehicles before going on the roads. The bad side is that Nigerians are not good in voluntary assignments that do not pay and road users will not be willing to give tips to such volunteers. They prefer to give to men of God who threaten them with hell fire and dangers. This is why I prefer to fly when on long trips, because the road transport industry and system in Nigeria is suicide mission, and has little or no functional regulatory body and so anyone can bring any vehicle and anyone as driver. Admittedly, our airways are not as safe, however, the industry is run by highly specialised professionals who have so much at stake in the event of any accident.
Created in February 1988, the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, which functions generally relates to making the highway safe for motorists and other road users, has failed and its purpose almost defeated.
A similar body, the Vehicle Inspection Office Driver and Vehicle Licensing Administration (VIO-DVLA) which primary aim is to standardise drivers’ license certification process and maintain a database of certified drivers and vehicles for the enforcement of road traffic laws in Nigeria, has also not lived up to expectations.
As the rate of road accidents increase in Nigeria on daily basis, it becomes urgent that the government looks into existing regulatory bodies or create new ones and mandate them to work closely with road transport companies.
I appeal we separate religion/faith from reality (science and technology) because if we have good vehicles, good and fit drivers and new tyres, the rate of our road accidents on our roads will reduce, while a large amount of the blood of Jesus would be saved for better things.
We all know speed is a major factor in many accidents. However, speeding causes not all accidents and not all accidents are preventable. Yet there are steps you can take to help prevent accidents. These include driving slowly when the weather is bad. Replace worn tyres and brakes as needed. Keep windshield washer fluid full and change out windshield wipers on a regular basis. Not only do seatbelts keep you safe in an accident, it will help avoid accidents as well. Seatbelts will hold you in place during an aggressive manouvre. Back off and do not tailgate or allow others to tailgate you.
Do not assume the other vehicles will stop just because the light is red.Do not drive behind an 18-wheeler on the highway. A blown tyre can cause an accident. Do not rely on your mirrors when making a lane change. All vehicles have “blind spots” in which your mirrors cannot see. Do not ride in the blind spots of other vehicles. Always keep your windshield wipers going in the rain. Defrost your windshield to keep it from fogging up. Turn on your headlights to help others to see you–this is also the law in some states.
It is always best to have a “designated driver”. Never drive after you have had alcoholic beverages. Even one beer can alter your ability to drive safely. Always use your signal, even if you think no one is there. When changing lanes on the freeway, do not signal as an afterthought or during the lane change. Signal at least a couple of seconds in advance so others know what you are going to do before you do it.

VICTORIA91: Dear NL,
I'm 25 years old, I met this guy online via chatting and before i knew, we met and we fell deeply in love. This guy is irresistible when we met and i never prayed for something more, because he was so caring, lovely and loving, not only that he is so tall and handsome as i have always prayed for. After a month we knew each other better and every minute i rang him up, he later told me and revealed to me everything about him, because he is not the flamboyant type of guy, i hardly notice that he is loaded.
At age 33 he has a lot of properties and work with a Ministry in Lagos, seconded employment with one int'l institution, he got me int'l passport and took me out of Nigeria shore for the first time in my life. I am from an average family and I'm not easily moved with material things, I'm a working class lady earning moderate salary and living well, i had a relationship before him but not a stable one.
He later revealed to me that he has something to tell me that might tear us apart, i made up my mind since it would not lead to my death, i bet i have reached my bus stop, because he is also in love with me. What a perfect match!. Until the day he bursted it out that he is married with kids and he was sweating and breathing so restlessly, waiting for me to breakup with him, i reassured him i will still love him at that, he explained he impregnated the girl and his family forced him to marry the girl...in short, three kids, two boys and a girl from the woman,(first boy and a twins).
I almost fainted, but pretended as if all is well, at least he still managed to tell me to let me decide to continue or not. We both continued and this month make our 6th month and he is already talking about our marriage, he tried divorcing the first wife, but get warned to let her be to make peace reign, i noticed he loves me so much and also loves his children too well too. He is traveling out soon to study for his PH.D. He wants me to get pregnant for him and do the needful with my family and declare his intentions of taking me as his second wife to his first wife and family...But at this stage i have doubting mind maybe i'm ready to go on or not..i don't feel like ruining the woman's home, and i don't feel like losing this my sweet love, he is not forcing me and he wants me to decide for myself....
Please help me dearies, abuse are allowed at least maybe it will straighten my brain..but i sincerely love him, he promised to settle me down in another state and assured me that all will be well. The issue is i'm so CONFUSED. am nt suprise @ all. Dis is wat nigeria girls know's hw 2 do best. Home breaka's Jst put urslf on dat woman shoe, wil u b happy if such happen 2 u? And he told u family member force him 2 marry d woman and dsame woman has 3kids 4 him and u Rr also happy he wana take u as a 2nd wife. HmmmM! I tink ur brain box need hydrolic fluid. |

Politics › Re: Goodluck Jonathan Congratulates Okonjo Iweala On Appointments by harry509: 9:10pm On Sep 22, 2015 |
SenseiX: Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, yesterday, congratulated Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala over her recent appointment to two key international positions, stating that her performance as Finance Minister during his tenure as president was a major determinant in her clinching the new appointments.
Jonathan, in a statement in Abuja, also congratulated Mrs. Omobola Johnson, the immediate past Minister of Communication Technology who was recently appointed the Honorary Chairperson of the Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI), a United States based global coalition, committed to driving down the cost of internet access in less developed countries.
According to Jonathan, the appointment underscores his belief that women have key roles to play in national and global development. The statement noted that Okonjo-Iweala’s emergence as the chair of the Board of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation, GAVI, as well as, appointment as senior advisor to Lazard, the 167-year-old global investment firm, makes her the third woman from Jonathan’s Government to be honoured with key international jobs and the fourth so far.
The others, according to the statement are Mrs. Johnson, Ms Arunma Oteh, former Director General of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) who became the Treasurer and Vice President of the World Bank as well as Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, who was elected President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
In his congratulatory letter to Okonjo-Iweala, Jonathan described her appointment as a great honour to the nation, especially coming soon after she served Nigeria as Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance in his administration.”
He further described her as an achiever whose leadership as the head of his economic management team, brought about the successful implementation of far-reaching reforms in many sectors including power, telecoms, agriculture, financial services and infrastructural development. On his preference and quota for women participation in Government during his time, Jonathan said: “It further underscores my belief that women of high integrity and proven abilities should be given the opportunity to directly contribute to national and international development. This is consistent with the global thinking that women who excel in their various professions should be encouraged to participate in governance.”
Giving more details of Okonjo-Iweala’s achievements, the former President wrote:
“Through your vision, the nation was able to implement some rewarding reforms in public financial management including the launch of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to boost dwindling revenue, as well as the introduction of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), which eliminated thousands of ghost workers from the public service system. “I believe that this record of high performance in my Government weighed heavily in your favour and helped put you on top of the list, during the man-hunt and competitive international search process to fill these positions.”
“I am encouraged by the fact that your responsibilities in the new positions fall within your familiar career purview of strengthening institutions, building systems and advising countries on structuring their finances and dealing with debt issues.
“I have no doubt in my mind that you would excel in the two assignments, given your past record of excellent service both in Nigeria and internationally.”
