sabaeh: UMUAHIA — FOR the family of Mr. Emmanuel Uwagbaokwu of Ohobo Afara in Umuahia North Council Area of Abia State, happiness and peace of mind have eluded them for now following the gruesome murder of their 21 year old son, Ikechukwu Uwagbaokwu, allegedly by the operatives of the Abia State Police Command. Until his tragic death, Ikechukwu Vincent Uwagbaokwu was a student of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, in Ohaji- Egbema Local Government Area.
The Uwagbaokwu family is strongly linking the tragic killing of their son to a land dispute it has with the Ndukwe and Uwaga families. Specifically, the family is alleging that the said families framed their son and connived with the police to kill Ikechukwu because of the land dispute.
The land dispute was said to have lingered and was getting messier when the community’s traditional peace makers, Ibeku Okonko Arbitration Panel waded into it and had indeed fixed a date to hear from the families involved before one the parties lost one of the witnesses, prompting the rescheduling of the matter by the traditional panel.
However, five days to the rescheduled date, Ikechukwu was gruesomely murdered and the Uwagbaokwu family is pointing accusing fingers at the rival families in the land dispute. According to their petition to the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Uwagbaokwu family hinged their suspicion on an allegation from one of the rival families which had earlier accused them of being responsible for the death of their family member.
The Uwagbaokwu family, in the petition, written by their lawyer, Godwin Oriaku of Overcome’s Chambers, claimed that days before the burial of the deceased from the rival family, they [rival family] sent a warning message to them not to attend the burial ceremony, accusing them of having a hand in the death of their brother. The petition also alleged that prior to the killing of Ikechukwu, “there have been threats issued at various occasions” by the rival family that lost a member that they were “going to avenge the death from the family of Uwagbaokwu”.
In the petition addressed to Abia Police Commissioner, Joshak Habila, the family of the slain undergraduate accused the police of killing their son. “On the 10th of September, 2015, Mr. Ikechukwu Vincent Uwagbaokwu, a Marketing Student of Imo Polytechnic went to bed at about 9.00pm but at about 10.50pm there was persistent banging on the door of the family house of the Uwagbaokwu.
“When Mr. Anthony Uwagbaokwe (elder brother of deceased) came out to see who was banging on their door, lo and behold, there were about ten fierce men in Police uniform who had taken strategic positions in the surroundings of the house. “One of the men in uniform, who came with Hilux pick up van and black Camry Saloon Car, hit the door of one of the occupants of the house and forced it open. When the occupant came out, the men in police uniform, who refused to identify themselves, said that he was not the person that they were looking for.
“The Police went to the direction pointed to by those who allegedly brought them. The armed policemen forced the next wooden door open and on sighting Ikechukwu Vincent Uwagbaokwu, one of the policemen allegedly shot him and he died immediately. “Our clients raised alarm but nobody came to their rescue. The matter was reported to Ehimiri Police Station in whose jurisdiction this area falls, where the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) gave them order to deposit the deceased at Madonna Mortuary in Umuahia,” the family stated
The 54 year old father of slain Ikechukwu, Mr. Emmanuel Uwagbaokwu, has therefore appealed to the Inspector General of police, Solomon Arase to order a comprehensive investigation to properly unravel who are the killers of his son. In a telephone chat, the Commissioner of Police, Joshak Habila could neither confirm nor deny the incident or the receipt of the petition but urged the lawyer and members of the family to see him in the office if they have such allegation, saying that they would not cover or protect any police man involved in extra-judicial killing or any illegal act.
But the family lawyer, Godwin Oriaku, insisted that the Police Commissioner has the petitions which he forwarded to the CID department to investigate. In fact, Oriaku claimed that four suspects have been arrested but alleged that the Ehimiri DPO was still shielding the alleged killer cop even as he said that his clients would demand for a thorough autopsy to determine the type of bullet that killed their son.
chucksbadt: I saw a job post online for the position of an ICT Engineer in a firm called EXCEL LIFESTYLE. Since i haven't heard about the firm before, i decided to Google it, to my surprise i found nothing about them. Irrespective of that fact, i decided to go ahead and apply for the post. About 10 minutes after i applied, i got an invite telling me to come today(14/10/2015) by 8am for an oral assessment(i come be like God don answer my prayer today).
Fast forward to today, i woke up by 5am, did my devotion, had my bath and started rushing down to the venue(it was like an hour from my end). Got there by exactly 7:45am.
On getting there, the surrounding looked suspicious (all this old secretariat building that have been abandoned for years, very unkempt). I felt more relaxed when i met others coming for the interview. We were about 50 in number.
On being the first person to arrive, i was interviewed first by the supposed HR manager, she had this strict attitude. She asked me about my career objective on my cv, i paraphrased it and she was like i should give it to her word to word. Kindly said i couldn't. She asked some other questions and i gladly answered and that was it. She then said i should switch off my phone and not talk to anyone and wait for stage 2.
NOW THE MAIN GIST =>After everyone was interviewed by the woman, one guy (who claims to be a staff) came to lecture us for about 4 hours (at this point i was feeling very suspicious, because i have never seen this kind of lecture at an interview before). They even played videos for us on a projector.
In summary, after all the lecture (but i must confess, the dude is a smooth/sweet talker), the guy was like any one who is interested in being a public speaker like him should pay N6000. If your not interested go home. That was the end of the screening exercise.

dainformant: Nigerian troops on cordon and search operations at the general area of Enike Mosque, Okene town, Kogi State were attacked by some suspected terrorists at about 5.30am Tuesday. yhemsy62: Snakes washed by flood into Kanke, Kanam and other communities in Plateau State have bitten more than 50 people in the last two weeks.
The representative of the area at the House of Representatives, Timothy Golu, confirmed the development in Jos, the state capital, after visiting the victims.
Golu said that some had died while others in critical conditions were on admission in various hospitals and traditional snake treating homes.
He said that 13 victims were at Zamko clinic in Langtang, 20 in traditional healers’ treatment homes, seven in herbalists’ centres, while some visit the centres for daily treatment owing to lack of bed space.
“Some have even been treated and discharged, but a woman at my place, who has been treated and discharged, still has pus gushing from the bitten spot and we have advised her to return to the hospital for fresh checks.
“We fear that something worse may result from the wound if not properly treated because she is already limping,” he said.
Describing the situation as “very scary and pathetic”, Golu said that the snakes, who move openly and always in pairs, were washed into the communities by flood.
“As the flood pushed them from the over flown tributaries of Rivers Benue and Niger, some snakes climbed trees, others entered holes while some just held unto any available straw.
“All of them later descended into residences and farms where they have been wreaking havoc.”
He said that the commonest species were the black mamba, carpet viper and cobra, and declared that most victims usually depend on luck to survive.
Golu urged the Federal and Plateau Governments to treat the snake invasion as “a national medical emergency concern”, and give it the same response given to HIV/AIDS and the Ebola virus.
“Government must come in with full force and ensure that the anti-snake venom is provided to the people free of charge because it is too expensive for the rural poor.
“Other world health bodies like WHO and UNICEF should also step in because it is a serious situation that requires all hands on deck.”
The law maker also called on the federal and state governments to fumigate the homes, farmlands and the general environment of the communities to reduce the number of snakes, especially since they appeared to be reproducing.
He said that the fumigation would also reduce the number of crocodiles washed into the communities, pointing out that the weather of the area was naturally attractive to such reptiles.
Golu said that he had advised the people to use hand gloves and rain boots while on their farms to minimise the effect of the snake attacks.
“But even such precautions can only minimise the damage because some of the snakes just fly into their victims and knock them off before biting them.
“Others just splash their poisonous saliva into the faces of their victims and that is equally dangerous,” he said.
He said that the situation had led to other environmental concerns with waterborne diseases like typhoid and gastro enteritis becoming common, urging extra caution among the people.
Golu also suggested that traditional snake charmers should be supported to help the people.
“Some charmers have devices through which they attract the snakes and get them killed; such initiatives will reduce their number and need to be encouraged,” he said.
He said that the urban centres were not spared as a huge black mamba was killed in the Jos residence of a former member of the House of Representatives last week.
exlink10: A mother and her 14 months old daughter were killed after being hit by stray bullets when robbers laid siege close to their house at Block 8, 23 Road House in Festac Town, Lagos, shooting sporadically from a machine gun during a bank robbery in Festac.
Uju, one of the residents of Block 8, where the stray bullet hit Mrs. Jane Beluchukwu-Ndirika, a nurse and her 14-month-old daughter Nmesoma said:
“While the shooting was going on, every one laid on the floor in their respective apartments. I was with Jane in her parlour while her child was inside the room. Suddenly, the child started crying and the mother stood up to carry her. As she was coming to the sitting room with the baby, a stray bullet perforated the window, hit the baby in the chest and also got the mother on the left side of her shoulder. Immediately, she took the child back to the room and started shouting for help. Nobody came to her rescue because people were running helter skelter for dear life.”
However, when the dust settled, a neighbour, identified as Irabor Sunday, reportedly rushed them to Mother and Child Hospital at the First Gate in Festac where they were confirmed dead. The baby was, thereafter, taken back to the house while her mother was rushed to Lord’s Chosen Church where a prayer session was organised for her revival. -
