Hi thanks for the notes. If the RM's in Nigerian banks are called Banking Advisors what are those in banking ng operations (cash services, funds transfer etc) called?

This is a financial service representative position but you will need to write the IFC (one stage) or CSI( 2 stages)... You should get about 42k p/a with this position....tellers in Nigeria are called customer service representative here ($16 per hour and this should only be a survival job)

Pls guys I want everyone to put mouth for this matter and I blv we’re all gonna learn from it. I understand at one point or another people (new immigrants) are more likely to go for a course or another prg to reach that top rank in Canada ....either to changing career or follow same path.
My question, Go for a diploma prg(2yrs) or another degree (4yrs)which one is a better choice n career wise.
I need practical n personal experience pls.

Tell us what professional line this is e.g banking, engineering e.t.c....what qualifications the person already has and what professional/practical experience the person already has....Then we can put good heads together

Thanks for this information. I have oil and gas experience and from questions I’ve asked, I understand Calgary is the place. Please what makes Fort McMurrau different, or why do you suggest there?
.
Fort McMurray is a 7 hours drive from Calgary, and I believe where the oil sands are....then the oil jobs I presume....but do your research please...I might be wrong

Hello all. Pls is it possible to land at a province with no prior relationship with anyone and still do well, I mean in terms of settling in. I have someone in BC but will love to land and start off in Alberta.

This decision should not be about where you know people, it's understanding the job profile of each province against your job type... If you are a person in petroleum industry then Alberta( Fort McMurray) should be your destination, if in financial services... Ontario has the highest chance followed by Quebec then Alberta (not like you won't get in others) and you don't compulsorily need to have someone....use Airbnb and rentfaster for accommodation... Ask Google any question that comes to your brain, do a loooot of research, Join WhatsApp groups from Naija.... Nigerians are sincerely warm to each other when they are not in Nigeria (just know how to decipher and filter good information).. You will be fine in my opinion..

Is that refuse and debris on the waterfront.....looking dirty...is that what they are commissioning...what about the provision for proper access roads to connect to the facility, what about a ramp for disabled people...or they don't deserve to use the facility, are there washrooms for people to use or you will all pee and defecate in the ocean also....all these rushed projects that they do in Nigeria....well

This ICAN/CIMA MRA that currently exists whereby you are exempted from all papers and only get to write 1 paper WILL NOT qualify you for the CPA MRA. They have this part that says you can’t apply for conversion if you obtained the qualification via MRA.
But if you were a CIMA student (No MRAs anywhere) and you wrote some exams and we’re exempted from others or wrote all exams, then you can benefit.
Best option is to send the regulatory body of your intended province a mail

ICAN/CIMA is not a MRA as such , it's just the same thing as ICAN/ACCA, WITH Cima ,you write only one paper, with ACCA you write 4 papers

On this POMO issue: Many Nigerians who Cargo POMO or have POMO in their luggage when coming into Canada are required to DECLARE it.

If you declare it at the point of entry or at their office when seeking Customs clearance for your goods, they will simply add your name to their violators list and you don't get to pay fine.

If you don't DECLARE it at this point, you will be issued a Notice of Violation which will contain a fine of $1,300.

You will be allowed to pay $650 (granted 50% discount) if you pay same day otherwise you pay the full amount.

In both scenarios, your name goes into their violators record and they will continue to add to this record the number of times you violated this laws.

I don't know if this information is later used against you especially when you are seeking Citizenship.

Finally, being a victim of this POMO wahala as at yesterday, the Customs Officer clearing my Cargo told me to tell my fellow Nigerians to stop bringing POMO to Canada.

It seems they now search for POMO physically in all Shipment coming from Nigeria. When they search, they shred your bags and leave your luggage as a heap of mess.

The Terminal Manager also told me that this is a regular occurence for Shipments coming from Nigeria.

They both wondered why we don't share this experiences with each other to avoid the losses.

So, I have shared. Please share with other Nigerians especially those whose cargo will be cleared at Halifax Port!

There is Pomo here, no need to bring go to Halal stores

I read online that CPA Ontario requires two references who are already certified by Ontario CPA and should have known the applicant by atleast year. Can this be waived for immigrants so an ACCA member can process before landing?

not sure about this... Just send CPA a mail, they would respond

hello all. my wife is presently a tax consultant in Nigeria with ICAN and ACCA certifications, and also awaiting PPR. concerning the conversion from ACCA to CGA/CPA, we are kind of confused as to what to do, as regards the timing of her conversion from ACCA - CPA
judging from her limited scope of accounting as a tax consultant in Nigeria ( 7 years), which would most likely be inconsequential in Canada. she is looking at deferring her conversion till she gets to Canada (Alberta to be precise), so as to not get the "you are overqualified for this role" response from recruiters, because her experience might not count (may i also chip in that she doesn't plan to be a tax consultant and the likes). we are thinking of shelving the conversion idea till she gets a foot in the door, then apply for the conversion while she works.
However she is open to any other category of her NOC (financial auditors and accountants). tough she plans to do a soft landing after COPR.
i don't know if the deferment is a good idea or not
czaratwork, blackbuddy, rainazoe, salford1, accountants, and those in the financial sector please help look into this. THANKS

if money is not an issue, I would say you do it before coming, that CPA will open more doors than you can imagine..

Central library.. Calgary

With your library card...

A) You get to print 50 pages or paper (b&w) or 25 pages of colored monthly....nay you know wetin you dey print.
B) Access you all the libraries in the city, you can borrow from A and return to B, for most material.
C)Have access to free WiFi
D) Borrow a chrome book for usage in the library for as long as you want
E) Borrow books and DVD or video materials
F) Borrow musical instruments
G) Have access to a very large repository of online resources https://calgarylibrary.ca
H) Most importantly read for your various certifications....without certification for most of us, your success in Canada is in God's hands(in my opinion)

Thank you so much for your frankness. One must have a balanced expectation before making the sojourn into these lands. To me, the best survival jobs are those with late/night shifts, leaving the day free for you to attend to your job search/interviews. Taking too many excuses to be off work can get you fired.

The issue of 'Who know man' is real. That you are referred/recommended by someone can be the tipping point in deciding whether or not to employ. This can sometimes be understandable when you view the issue from the employer's lenses. For example, my employer will spend over $20,000 to train me over the next 3 months, yet they don't have a guarantee that I will be there by the end of this year. A recommendation from their reliable employee therefore helps them to form an opinion and make the hiring decision. However, that is not to say 'who know man' is the only way... afterall I wasn't recommended by anyone.

From the foregoing, abeg... make we dey help fellow Nigerians. If you work in a structured organization, help other Nigerians to get in (yes, they are qualified)... as other nationalities are helping themselves. While it's easy to help those we know, let's also remember to help those that are not so known. Put in a good word on their behalf, go out of your way to find opportunities for them.

If you have landed and are interested in the financial services industry, PM me.

Interest full here oo....how do I reach you

Hello everyone...it's your favourite "Hornline" banker *flaps flippers* cheesy

See y'all later *peace sign*

Why pay $120 dollars when i can simply call the bank's customer care and have a card that does not have any charges sent to me and my $120 dollars will be immediately reversed.
I saw the charge barely 4 days ago and i immediately called CIBC, ow can JJC like me that is job searching be paying 120 dollars.
That money will buy me 3 pairs of sneakers during sales/clearance season.

All these listed advantages are useless to me
