I'm not knowledgeable about the battle of Waterloo, I'm talking about the battle of st Crispens, the British were outnumbered at least 3 to 1.

You can also take a look at Cesare's take over of Gaul. Cesare was greatly outnumbered.
Hannibal as well, he kept defeating the Romans who greatly outnumbered his forces.
Strategy and discipline win wars.

I'm sorry though, I don't fully understand your thesis. Could you state it ?
And if you could give a definition to "soldier" I would appreciate. The farmers who defeated the USA in Afghanistan, do they fit the definition?

I feel like we are not saying contradicting things. You only seem to believe that the size of an army is a big factor in winning or losing a war, I think it is not. Strategy is the actual bigger factor. Strategy is how 80000 russian soldiers bugged down more than 500000 Ukrainian soldiers.
Numbers are not the MOST important factor.
But it is an important factor.

I was merely talking at first to the other guy who said only technology wins modern wars.

I had told him at least 3 things win wars.

1. Tactics
2. Ammunition.
3. Numbers.

Of course one can win wars with a smaller army, but you then need a force multiplier-- usually excelling in the other 2 to succeed.

About being a soldier-- the Afghans have been Warriors for centuries and by virtue of their culture, young men can fight-- or can be easily trained to.

This is different from the culture in many other countries-- where there has to be several weeks/months of training for them to be made soldiers.

I don't think we are contradicting each other.

England has always had a smaller population than France, but I recall England defeated France in their wars.

Rwanda has a smaller population than Congo, but Rwanda routinely military humiliate Congo.

Uk had a much smaller population than the Indian kingdoms which it defeated and turned into a single country.

Japan has a smaller population than China each time Japan defeated china.

Small Sweden used to bully the Russian empire.

Israel had a much smaller population than any of the countries of the middle east which it defeated in a 6 day war.

Eritrea had a smaller population than Ethiopia when Eritrea defeated Ethiopia in its independence war.

Greece most likely had a smaller population than Egypt Alexander the great defeated Egypt.

Germany did not attack the ussr alone, it did so with Romania, Italy, Finland and some other states. In that period of time Germany occupied all of western Europe minus the UK, if you add all their populations, you would have a bigger population than the USSR.
Population of a country is not the population of its standing army.
They are 2 different things

I have said at least 3 things matter in war, 1 being the population of the armies.
Whilst tactics and weapons matter too.

What was the size of the English army and the French army that lost to them at Waterloo?
That's what matters.

To say the size of an army does not matter is not correct

There is a big deifference between an adult male and a soldier.
Big difference!

For instance England and South Korea have about the same population.
However, S.Korea's standing army is about 5 times the English.

If they were to fight, the Koreans will have an obvious advantage in that area-- except the English improve their numbers or have a considerable advantage in other areas.

The Brits colonised India, because it had several warring kingdoms and they sided with one over another until they gradually controlled the Country.

They had the right tactics and superior weaponry.
But despite that, they were still routed in some battles.

Germany lost because they were spread too thing on several fronts.
They had brilliant officers and way superior weaponry but lost.
They ended recruiting children to shore up their numbers in the end.

So yes, the size of armies (population of armies) matters.

I can see how bright you are, you were bragging about knowing about military formations for entire day and ended up saying trash.
I was 2 years old in 1976 when my father joined the army, before him his father (my grandfather) was a sergeant in the Army when my father joined as a recruit in 1976.
Today my young brother is a colonel in the Army while the 5th of my siblings is also a too DSS officer and was part Buhari's presidential guard.
Many of guys I grew up with in Niger Barracks are also top offices in the Army today, my wife's father shared office with Chief Of Army Staff in FHQ Abuja for many years before his retirement.

So when you keep bragging about knowing military formations remember that I am from a military family and I am surrounded by top serving military personnels as well as retired veterans.

Like I said in 2024 population doesn't really matter in a war, what matters is technology. If you don't know this by now then you are dumber than I first thought.
...and so?

Does that make you bright?

If you like, let all the members lf your family be Generals...

From Population does not matter, you have changed to population does not really matter.
🤣

Mr technology-wins-wars... maybe you should ask your family members what numerical strength does in combat.

Germany had the best weapons in WW2, they lost.

America had far superior weapons im Vietnam.
It still ended catastrophically.

Ukraine has the support of NATO, with choice weapons, but are also losing.

You are obviously too daft to connect the dots in all these obviously.

Nigeria thing is always in the opposite direction, train trips are supposed to be cheaper than all other means of transportation.

It was supposed ease load from the shoulders of commuters, especially workers, but it's the opposite. This Lagos that people don't care waiting for over 30mins or to get a cheaper bus with just N100 difference, na dem wan spend more train? How much be salary?

Like calm down, I don't even know you. It's a faceless online forum, it doesn't define you.

I clearly stated 3 points and those 3 points weren't wrong or anything.

1) No tank is indestructible.
2) RPGs can't take out MBT because its Armour is too thick except the target specific places which I included the tracks of the tank.

I'm happy the receipt is still on this forum and generations to come will see it.

Below you'll see a photo of a Wiki page collaborate my point.

On Abrams tank, you asked which stand can withstand a javelin and I clearly stated The Abrams, The British and Germany Leopards because of the Trophy AMD produced by Israel.
Did you research what I said to see if I was wrong? No. what did you do instead, spin it around to how no tank is indestructible which I quickly agreed with you.
Again below is a page on the manufacturer site, you can read about the defense system. It's meant to protect tanks from ATGM which includes the javelin.
I even ask you if America and its European allies were stupid enough to install a system that added weight to their tanks that don't work.

All these are here. That you didn't know and I knew somehow makes you feel insecure and you're talking about confidence and arrogance.

Everything I've said on this forum are facts and I am confident in my stand to defend it anywhere. If that is arrogance to you, I don't know what to tell you

As I suggested some weeks ago, some ministers have no business in the cabinet:

To add to that list, Dr Doris Uzooka Anite needs to be shown the door for lacking experience in signing that MOU with Kemi Badenoch for UK lawyers to practice in Nigeria and celebrating it before she was heavily resisted.

Also to go is the Minister of Transportation. No one knows his name.

We don't hear much from the Minister of Water Resources and whoever is the Minister of Environment.

The ministry of youth needs to be shut down. The relevance of that ministry is not clear.

Tunji Alausa needs to leave the Ministry of Health and take charge of Humanitarian Affairs.

The president also needs to carefully examine the young ministers. Many of them need to go as they lack experience to head ministries.

El Rufai needs to be brought in to fully head the petroleum ministry. We need a well known mad person in that ministry. Merge it with power and call it ministry of energy resources.
I am a Christian Southerner, but El-Rufai has my vote anytime.

Call him a bigot all you want, e no consign me.

The Yorubas were administering a Kingdom that extended into Benin Republic and Togo long before the British came.

Dahomey was paying tax of about 1 million pounds yearly to the Oyo empire about 200 years ago.

So stop capping.

There is a reason the Colonialists chose Lagos.
Besides it was not the only coastal town or city at the time?
Neither was it closest to the centre of the Country.

Lagos had a structure when they came, coupled with its proximity to the coast.

It was a commercial centre.
Cannons used to fight the Yoruba was were bought from there.
Slaves were sold from there.
The returnee Yoruba slaves settled there with the knowledge they had of the first world.

It's a pity most Nigerians don't know or maybe embraced a false history, or haven't bothered to do a proper analysis.

The Igbo controlled Nigeria in all but name. A study of the demography of federal employees and university graduates makes it very clear. The Igbo were so utterly dominant that the Fulani & Yoruba were begging for secession and the Igbo rejected their pleas. In fact Zik ceded the position of Prime Minister to the North as a gesture of good faith, to tamp down Northern secessionist sentiment.

Not just those tribes. Do you know there were TWO Cameroonian provinces that were part of Nigeria? They were given a referendum in 1964. The Northern Cameroonian province elected to remain part of Northern Nigeria, but the Southern Cameroons decided to leave the Eastern Region and join Cameroon. Their reason? Igbo domination. Go and read the history, it's fascinating.

The Jan 1966 coup was an attempt to keep Nigeria together, it was an effort to salvage a nation wracked by serious political instability that has set in soon after independence. The biggest error resulting from the coup was Unitary Decree No 34. The rest is history and we're all living it.

Good Luck to Nigeria.
