uniquetechng: Which military strategies are you talking about ? Using a WW II scenario as example in 2024 shows you're just blabbing. You used population as a ratio to defend attack and I pointed it out to you that Israeli military is more powerful than Portuguese military yet Israel has a population of 10m ( half of the population of Lagos State ) people while Portugal is 48m people.
Clown!
If you go War College, you will study military tactics from when they rode on horse-back and used swords. Current day warfare is still about manoeuvres and tactics.
Besides Soldiers still train bayonets charges till today.
You obviously know NOTHING about military strategy.
Like NOTHING!
You sound like a child arguing if Van Damme will beat Bruce Lee.
For you to disregard WW2 shows how uninformed you are.
Are they not fighting in trenches, like they did in WW1, in Ukraine today? Have you not been seeing what is happening?
How did America do in Vietnam, Korea and Afghanistan with their superior weaponry?
'If Portugal and Israel fight, Israel will win...'
How do you know that? How did the Brits and Russians do in Afghanistan? You think this is Call of Duty? 🤣
Then again, the 'Force Ratio' I tried to explain to you is not of the total population of a Country.
You misunderstanding something this basic says a lot:
1. The total population of a country will not be in the army. 2. The Force Ratio is used for battlefield tactics.
So if I want to invade a defended position-- e.g a beach, town or city... It is expected I will take a way heavier casualty than the defenders. It is commonsensical.
If you cannot understand it, that's not my problem.
America will all their gadgets fought a crippling war in middle east for over 20 years, where they were losing men to IEDs. They had to humiliatingly abandon that campaign also.
Maybe read more, watch podcasts and documentaries; and you will understand.
uniquetechng: Do you know that Israel has population of just 10m people ? Can Portugal with 48m people defeat Israel in a war ? In modern warfare population don't win you wars technology does.
That is a silly analogy! Stop talking like you are in a beer parlour.
Germany had the best weaponry in the second World War. They already had a jet engined plane that was about 150miles/hr faster than those of their enemies-- the Me 262.
They still lost the war!
I have discussed military strategy with you and you obviously know NOTHING about it.
Military force ratios have been in use for hundreds of years and are still not redundant.
Why is Ukraine struggling despite the Javelins and HIMARs?
In the end, the technology has counted for little, as they are fighting in trenches.
What happened in Afghanistan? What happended in Vietnam?
There is no point anymore, so I will leave you to it. It will be a waste of time I don't have.
happney65: That is the truth and you know it. Till the end of time that is how it would be
Except if there is true restructuring. But in a situation where the major seaports, major airports etc are only concentrated in a single city of over 200M people in a country. That is what will happen
Stop the excuses oga.
Lagos was a slave port for 100s of years even before the British.
Its location has always made it favourable.
When the returnee slaves came, they settled in or around Lagos as there was a form of development there.
They then contributed their own quota.
When the Brits came, they made Lagos alone a Colony, whicb must have happened because it was viable.
Lagos alone was a Colony.
Afterwards they made it the Capital because ot was easier for them. Easier and less expensive.
They also contributed their own.
When Nigeria gained her independence, the Goverment naturally continued from there.
Many factors contributed to lagos being what it is today-- and not just it being a formal FCT.
uniquetechng: You're obviously still in 1960, in 2024 population don't win wars technology does that's why annual military budget keep increasing yearly. Russia is just a country of 143m people that's about 120m less than Nigeria's population, France is about 67m people while England is about 65m people, Germany with 83m people and South Korea with about 67m people yet these nation's armies are considered to be more powerful than let's say India with over 1.4bn people. World's most powerful militaries has been investing heavily on drones and unmanned military fighter jets because they have realities that a single drone can do the damage of over 300 personnel.
I guess you didn't read what I wrote?
You need at least 3 things to win a war and numbers is one of them.
It is obvious you know little or nothing military strategy. Stop bandying irrelevant population figures about.
Why do Countries recruit massively when they have a war-- even the 'stronger' armies like the US?
Because numbers matter.
Have you heard of military force ratios?
For instance, the 3:1 ratio to attack a defended position? 2.5:1 to perform a hasty attack?
Why hasn't NATO's weapons won them the war in Ukraine?
uniquetechng: Do you know that the population of India times 10 the population of Russia ? Do you that Nigeria is at least 80 million more than Russia ? Do you know that Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland are not more than 60m people, can Nigeria beat any of those countries in war ? Population don't win wars.
Stop!
You need numbers, weapons and tactics to win a war.
If you are deficient in one of these, you will suffer.
Why is Russia whalloping Ukraine now-- Numbers is a huge factor.
The Ukranians had the bestvof weapons to start with, but the Russians were just pouring lots of cannon fodder to the front lines.
They have killed so much, their ammunition is now exhausted. ...and the Russians are still mobilizing hundreds of thousands.
Why has the UK been jittery recently? Their standing army is about 70,000 and they know they cannot stand the Russians if war broke out between them.
The UK has some of the best fighters in the World, but they don't have the numbers. So with their supposed rag-tag military, the Russians will overwhelm them.
unbiased2021: Had it been he did it in Lagos, you guys would’ve still said S. East is a barren land and no one can invest in it. If Igbos should cite all their investments in the S. East region, I’m not sure any other region can compete
SoNature: Sunday Igboho is a wise and courageous man. Remove Soludo from that list; that man has made fruitless efforts to see to it that Nnamdi Kanu was released.
Nnamdi Kanu committed serious crimes against the Nigerian state. However, I believe he must have learnt his lessons by now.
He should be released and kept under house arrest like it was done before the military displayed their stupidity in his father's palace.
NNamdi Kanu has done treasonous things against the Country.
Only politics will not make them punish him accordingly.
I am sure you know the penalty for treason?
...but I am sure nobody wants to make him a Matyr.
Telltruth123: This your comment lacks wisdom and anybody that is not igbo reading your comment will be very careful of dealing with your tribe. Be wise, is not all igbos that are rich some are working under other tribes men to make a living.
Peter Obi got the highest vote in south is because Igbos knows the better candidate. In every election Igbos always vote the better choice. I don't believe that statement that no one can fix Nigerian problem overnight. It's mainly the excuse our leaders use to deceive the masses. It's just like putting MC Olu@mo to head finance ministry and one will be expecting a miracle. You can't give what you don't have. Peter Obi is not a Saint or even the smartest Nigerian, the good quality about him is that he's ready to work and to be held accountable. The person that won the election hardly related with the masses and very egoistic. And you expect such person to care about you? Until we start telling ourselves the truth and leave religion and tribalism aside, the country will keep moving in circles.
How come you cannot vote the 'best candidates' in your States?
Here is a story of how a ghost terrorised boarding a school in Nigeria, relax and enjoy the story.
It was the fall of 2013 at Ogbomoso Secondary School, an all-girls boarding school located in the outskirts of Ogbomoso town in southwestern Nigeria. As the new school year started, the students were buzzing with excitement to be back with their friends. Little did they know the terror that awaited them.
It started slowly at first - missing belongings, strange noises at night, flickering lights. The girls complained to the matronly headmistress, Mrs. Adebayo, but she dismissed their concerns as "overactive teenage imaginations." But the weird occurrences kept escalating...
youngrichnigga: Hope the fare will be low enough for the common masses to enjoy and will not in anyway be competing with bus fares for supremacy. IMHO, Lagos deserves to be the capital of Nigeria and not Abuja
Trains are more expensive than Buses, the world over.
Zooposki: These people are really taking suggestions from Nairaland or Peter Obi. Wow!!!! Someone here made a suggestion a couple of days back to peg the rate.
I guess they read all the comments on Nairaland before making decisions
successmatters: Pegging everything in a capitalist economy is just plain old rubbish. But who is surprised? When people who learnt how to cut and mix quantities of 'coke' are trying their lucks on an economy, it will be like when a quack roadside mechanic is doing an open heart surgery on a live human patient.
adebwalex: Despite the policies the dollars keep Rising. Why if you want to but from them they give you high price. All this new policies by the CBN federal government still not working. It disavantage is higher than the advantages
In what Country in the world do you see people selling Forex like Gala?
Shikena: Based on the situation at that point in time, the decree was promulgated as a way of discouraging “tribal loyalties and activities which promote tribal consciousness and sectional interests and which must give way to the urgent task of national reconstruction.”
Sounds like concocted bullshit to me.
Ironsi made that decision to consolidate power for himself.
Shikena: Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi had good intentions back then but in retrospect, a huge mistake. His infamous Decree No. 34 of 1966, the “unification decree", effectively did away with the federal system of government practiced by Nigeria since its independence from British colonial rule in 1960.
