Family / Re: Should Parents Fight Their Kid's School Managers For Bullying The Child? by HelloWriter: 9:56am On Dec 06, 2021
Richy4:
I disagree with your perspective sir.. I will always put my kid first.. I will always make my child know fully well that I am behind his wellbeing in school..

I will teach him respect..I will like him to tell me whenever he was being bullied in school by the students and the teachers... There was a story that made front page where a teacher removed the pupil's tooth...
Are u telling me that the parent have no right to confront the school to register their displeasure? If I am fighting in that kind of fight, he must be aware of it... When he grows old and have a family of his own, he too will fight for his family..

In the case of the young boy that was killed, Did u see how the management of the so called school you were desperately trying to defend did all they could to cover up the murder of an innocent boy... The management said he was playing soccer hence the injury... Even shutting down the voice of innocent kids that tried to explain what went down..

I'm glad about one thing though... That due to bad administration going on in Nigeria, Nigerians can now see through cover up stories...

Don't worry about your paycheck sir.. When u say the truth, without caring about your daily bread or which side your bread is buttered, we will know and agree with u...
Due to the harsh situations around the country, I understand why people would seek to quarrel in every situation even when nothing calls for it. But, I am not here to quarrel, and neither will I let anyone pull me into it. Instead, I would like you to point out anywhere in my writeup that made you say that I was desperately defending the school while suggesting that I was paid for my writing.

And, I wonder why Lalasticlala doesn't take this kind of didactic sensitive topic to the fp for more people to contribute and learn.
Family / Should Parents Fight Their Kid's School Managers For Bullying The Child? by HelloWriter: 8:55pm On Dec 05, 2021
I have taught in three high schools. Two out of three were schools attended by the so-called rich kids (whose parents' income levels were above average).

One thing I noticed teaching rich kids is that their arrogance prevents them from learning from the teachers whom they mostly look down on as inferior creatures.

Another thing I noticed is that if you show a kid that you could deal with the school managers on his/her behalf, he/she no longer respects the school managers (teachers and all). I believe that such attitudes affect not only the children's curricula learning but also their life prospects.

Yesterday, I wrote this article here on Nairaland where I held Late Sylvester's family responsible for some of the causes that led to his eventual death. I made it clear that my reason for writing the article was to help other parents/guardians learn from the sour event.

But, I almost regretted posting the article when one Nairalander after another kept commenting about how they would have beaten up the school managers when the lad complained about getting bullied by fellow students. It's clear that I was misunderstood by most of the readers.

I don't support that a child's parents/guardians should quarrel or fight with their child's school unless it becomes ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. And, even when it becomes necessary that you quarrel (never fight) with your child's school over the child, you shouldn't let the child know about the beef. Instead, you should make a child see you to have respect for his/her school managers.

I believe that making the child respect his school managers would help to improve his/her learning and life prospects. For example, it would help them to pay attention to the teachers. Also, it would help them to be more respectful to people (including YOU).

Who disagrees with my perspective on this sensitive matter?
Romance / Re: What Most Guys Who Demand Too Much Of Women Look Like (pic) by HelloWriter: 5:00pm On Dec 05, 2021
LifestyleTonite:
Quickly check the picture below before reading this short piece.

Welcome back.

Laughing out so aloud in red pill language.

It's time for guys to sit down and tell themselves the truth too and not just sit around and slam girls.

Guys have issues too. Many of them look shapeless or out of shape, yet they want a damsel in their life. When a damsel turns them down because they don't look attractive, they start to pour out their frustration on all girls.

Some think everything has to do with money. They think once they get money, they can get any girl for themselves. That's true to some extent, but you cant get love with just money, just sex which is not as good as knowing you are loved to pieces by the opposite sex.

Money is a tool you use to walk up to love. You use money to hit the gym, eat good food and look fit. But some guys think just buying expensive clothes is what matters, disregarding the fact that they need the right physique to accentuate the clothes.

Look at Wizkid and Tems. Wizkid was snubbed on stage by Tems. Why? Man's too short and boyish. Place Trey Songs or Drake on stage with her, which is clearly a match, and watch her fall over them.

Half the time, some rich men are dating or married to women who don't find them sexually attractive, but they don't know. They think all that matters is giving her money. That they do until they realise that one jobless dude is not only sleeping with their woman but also using the money they give their woman to level up.

Guys, lack of money is not the only reason why you can't find a damsel to love you sincerely. The reason why girls don't love you or even notice you passing by is because you don't love yourself. Imagine guys between 20 and 40 already having potbelly with fat body like a woman. I bet you that the expensive clothes you will rock with that kind of body will look normal or abnormal on you, instead of having that dashing effect it had on the model that rocked it on the runway.

So, guys, instead of joining the gang of guys that bash girls on social media, why not join the click of guys that would rather spend that moment working on themselves financially, spiritually, physically and emotionally?

Hit the gym today. A sexy and fit body will cover up your 'ugly face'. Once you start to work out with visible result, bet it that compliments will start to come your way. I'm a living example. I've always had a cute and handsome face, but I thought that was all I needed until I graduated and saw a decline in advances from ladies. That was when I decided to hit the gym and stay fit. Today, female colleagues, both single and married, do compliment me loudly. Male colleagues see me as an inspiration because I stand out from among them. Guess what I've become? I've become the kind of guy both men and women love. Such is whom ladies love, because ladies flock around who others flock around.

So, red pill guys, enough of female bashing, because to be honest, they owe you nothing. A they want in life is a high value man, not necessarily a rich man, but a man others admire without money attached to him.

The day I decided to love myself was the day I went to meet a carpenter and told him to make a local bench for me to use for bench press exercise. I worked out at home for two months before discovering that there was a gym close to my house, which I later registered in. Then I proceeded to get some workout suppliments. The day I stepped out to Ikeja City Mall to get one was the day I met the love of my life, a gorgeous light-skinned lady that looks like she got cropped out of a magazine. Did I mention that she loves me to pieces and calls me thrice a day with each calls lasting over an hour? She exhausts her airtime and immediately converts to Whatsapp call. The day I met her at ICM, I remember I was getting advances from ladies at the mall that day. Did I look rich? No. Did I look attractive? Yes.

Don't get me wrong, I don't look bulked up like Arnold Schwarzenegger, but I look fit and elegant with tones in the right places. I wish I could post pictures but it's not my style. Right now, I'm working on my finances and about to buy a landed property and work towards marriage next year. I'm also thinking about trippling my hustle next year.

Simply put, I spent my little money on myself by hitting the gym and enjoying myself. Same money would have gone into simping for a girl all in a bid to get her attention. These days, I don't hesitate to lavish on myself, buy nice and expensive shoes. So, I don't see it as a big deal to give my chick nice trips.

It's time for boys to learn to be men and stop whining like sissies. Work on yourself and the love you desire will be yours. Don't forget to pray to God too.

Start in this order:

Spiritually - read the Bible
Financially - work and save
Physically - hit the gym
Emotionally - don't let a lady's rejection or anything get on your nerves.

Peace guys

grin
I'm C. Ronaldo. Please, don't tell anyone. I like you for being like me.

I think that the burden of the responsibility would be on anyone acting in loco parentis (in parental position). If they did it while at home, their parents would have been the ones to hold responsible. But, now that they did it while at a boarding school, the school managers are to be held responsible.

A case in point relates to the minor involved in the recent school shooting in Michigan, USA. His parents have been arrested because he came to school from his home with the gun on the day of the shooting.

Even in Late Sylvester's case, his real parents may also share in the responsibility as many Nairalanders agree on this thread https://www.nairaland.com/6880945/opinion-why-blame-oromoni-snr

@HellowWriter

What happened to the boy is tragic. I don't think he looked tough enough to live away from home (even if it was a fancy school).

What character did the parents instil in the child? To turn the other cheek or to fight back?

Fathers/parents need to be realistic with their children especially in the contraption called Nigeria where anything goes!

Self defence is a must for both males and females.

As for the school it's clearly not a safe environment for children so should be closed.
You have another side to it. There's surely a reason why the child Sylvester seemed to be a particular soft target for the bad boys. It seems he was too soft for them from the way he was raised.

And, it's remarkable that NwaNimo1 wrote such a long text today and still added his usual gif giftgrin
Politics / OPINION: Why Igbos Should Support A Tinubu Presidency by HelloWriter: 9:14pm On Dec 04, 2021
Igbos were the most outspoken section of the country against a Buhari Presidency prior to 2015 presidential race. It seems that Igbos now have the bragging right to tell other Nigerians, "but we told you".

Once again, Igbos are the most outspoken against the possibility of a Tinubu Presidency. It can be understood why most Igbos are against a Tinubu Presidency.

I was against the Tinubu Presidential ambition until I looked at it more closely. A Tinubu Presidency will actually favor Igbos. See how...

In 1997 (only 2 years before Bola Tinubu became the Governor of Lagos), he was quoted by a ThisDay report as saying "I don't believe in One Nigeria".

www.nairaland.com/attachments/14637536_images11_jpeg_jpeg2db82c4a8d0f86b2eeb07aac89170992

If you think that Tinubu has changed this view, please, think again because, as it is said, "old beliefs die hard".

It is unthinkable that Tinubu has changed a political view he held only 2 years before becoming the Governor of Lagos in 1999. In addition to this, Tinubu has been an eloquent advocate of restructuring. As a political viewpoint, restructuring is very close to the breakup of the country.

Most Igbos advocate for either outright breakup or restructuring of the country. Unknown to many of them, they have an ally in Tinubu on this.

It's just that Tinubu is a master tactician. He's careful not to expose his plans to those guys in the North. I won't say more than this.

Oga,stop being emotional here ! You and I both know that you can't take everything a child says seriously. Those who do are just sharing brain cells with that lady in Oyo state that stormed a school with thugs.
Why I will not let this your perspective be is that it will stop some people from learning the lesson I want them to learn from this. I have not said that the Oromonis should have taken soldiers to Dowen. So, comparing me with the Oyo woman sounds so strange.

You are of the view that a child shouldn't be listened to. You think that his/her complaints should not be taken seriously even when you see signs and symptoms of trauma on him/her. I think your kids are unfortunate to have you.

You are still insisting on your view even after seeing what it has caused. In case you don't know, Sylvester is only a sample of what is taking place to many kids today.

Many kids are being initiated into cults, gay clubs, etc. While the signs are there early enough, unthinking parents like you fail to notice and take ACTION until the children are beyond their control.

Well, I don't blame you much. You are a Nigerian. You guys elected Buhari only to start complaining. Yet, you're on the way to elect Buhari's bossom friend and co-corrupt old man so that you can complain more and attract sympathy.

OP, this sort of thing happens in almost everyone country across the world and there is no amount of precautionary steps you can take to prevent this . Yes, there were signs of bullying and neglect by the school , but you need to understand that as a parent, you can't control all traumatic situations your children go through in life and pretending you can will just simply be hypocrisy
Some cases are more serious than others. When a child gets to a point that he won't tell you something "lest they kill me", if you still think it's hypocrisy to take it extra-seriously, then, YOU ARE THE HYPOCRITE HERE.

OPINION: Why I Blame Oromoni Snr For His Son's Death, And What We Can Learn From It

We have all been reading news about the death of a 12-year-young lad at the high-brow Dowen College, Lekki. After watching some family photos of the Oromonis, and seeing how much the family loved the younger Sylvester, I've been weeping uncontrollably. Somehow, I even feel that Sylvester Jnr is my own blood.

But, it pains me even more to learn that the boy's family had all it would have taken to save him but didn't...unfortunately. It's so painful.

I know that shallow sentiments are flying around right now concerning the boy's death. Therefore, many people here are going to take their fangs out against me and say how I am cruel, insensitive, and satanic for daring to blame the aching family (especially the father) for young Sylvester's death.

You see, one of the reasons why Nigeria remains so backward is that we largely seem to lack the maturity of truly learning lessons from our experiences - even on the political space. We seem to enjoy getting into trouble in order to complain about our ugly situations. Looks like we even enjoy to get the sympathy which has absolutely nothing good to add to our lives.

If I fail to share the light I have about his family's responsibility for Sylvester's death now that the event is fresh, I see more families failing to learn the lesson hidden in the boy's premature death (which is the only good thing that can come out of the evil). So, in spite of the expected criticisms, why am I going ahead to blame Sylvester's older ones - and especially his father - for the boy's death? See why:

I read a report by The Punch on the incident where Late Sylvester's father is quoted as saying...

"My son suffered. His birthday is next tomorrow (Dec 4). I’ll celebrate it. I’ll have a cake baked. I’ll cut it on his behalf. The boys they mentioned were also reported to the school last term when they bullied Junior and collected all his foodstuffs; clothes. I have two daughters, one of whom earlier graduated. I had to remove the second after this incident. They asked this boy to describe the sister’s privates and this got to us.”

Imagine that! The bullying on their son got to the point that he was being asked to talk about her sister's privates. It got to a point where they had to withdraw Sylvester's only elder sister left at Bowen. Yet, they saw no reason enough to also withdraw their darling son to save him from such profound abuse.

Even more indicting is the fact that Oromoni Snr was aware, as early as the last term, that his young son was getting death threats from the bullies to the extent that he was getting traumatic! Hah!!! As the Punch report quotes him as saying about his dead son,

"They put fear in him so much so that, when you ask him, he might keep to himself and say, ‘they will kill me’. This way, we didn’t know what to do. I considered removing him, reconsidered since his sisters were still in the school"

As you can see, he got this gory report as far back as when younger Sylvester's two elder sisters were still at Bowen. He considered withdrawing him, but changed his mind because the lad still enjoyed some protection from his elder sisters. But, why did you (Oromoni Snr) still leave the little boy at Bowen with such a history of getting bullied, even after his two elder sisters left the school? Why?

This is happening in the first school term. As early as last term, you (Oromoni Snr) knew that your little son was being bullied to the point of getting traumatic. So, why didn't you withdraw him? You can't tell us that you took him back there to complete the school year's curriculum since that was the last term of the year. I can't find any reason enough to take back the child to a place where he was getting so abused that he was getting traumatic without any significant intervention from the school managers.

From my personal appreciation of Oromoni Snr, it seems to me that he was blinded and deafened by the arrogance of having a child at high-brow Dowen. I'm aware of how cruel this my perception might sound. I could be wrong also. But, I see many Nigerian parents making that same mistake of letting such shallow considerations becloud their reasoning. If only we can learn, from this painful death, to be less vain than this.

What has happened has happened. As painful as it is, the only good thing that can come out of it are the lessons that we can learn from it. These lessons would be useless to the extent that they don't help us to prevent a repeat of such an incident individually and otherwise.
