David’s Mother Supposedly Committed Adultery The traditional Jewish answer to why David’s family rejected him is that they all thought that David’s mother had committed adultery and borne him out of wedlock. They thought he was a bastard (in fact, the word “stranger” in Psalm 69:8 has the same Hebrew root as muzar, meaning “bastard”). The traditional Jewish story is stated briefly below. David’s father, Jesse, was the son of Obed, who was the son of Boaz, who married Ruth, the Moabite woman. The Jewish traditional law explicitly forbade Hebrew women from marrying Moabite men because of how the Moabites treated the Israelites when they were wandering in the desert after fleeing Egypt. But the law was unclear about whether or not a Hebrew man could marry a Moabite woman. Boaz believed that the law allowed such a marriage, which is why he married Ruth. However, according to Jewish tradition, Boaz died on the night that he and Ruth were married (Midrash, Zuta, Ruth 4). Many believed that his death proved that God had condemned Boaz’ marriage to Ruth, and had punished him accordingly. However, even though Boaz and Ruth had only been intimate for that one night, she conceived and gave birth to Obed. Obed was then viewed as illegitimately born, as was his own son, Jesse. Nevertheless, both of these men labored hard in learning the Torah and loving God and so the conduct of their lives helped convince the surrounding communities that though Boaz had sinned, they themselves were accepted by God as part of the covenant community. Jesse married a Jewish girl named Nizbeth (Babylonian Talmud, Baba Batra 91a). After Jesse had been married for many years, had fathered seven sons with Nizbeth, and had gained honor as a righteous man and spiritual leader in the community, doubts began to fill his mind about whether or not his line and seed were permanently polluted by his Moabite blood. It was at this point that he resolved to cease all sexual relations with Nizbeth. He did this out of love for her, because she, as a pure Israelite, would be sinning to be married to someone who was of impure Moabite ancestry. Furthermore, Jesse began to doubt the legitimacy of his seven sons. If he was impure, then his children were illegitimate and impure as well. So Jesse, wanting a legitimate heir, came up with a plan to have a son in the same way that his forefather Abraham had done: through relations with his wife’s Canaanite maidservant. Whether Jesse was viewed by God as a true Israelite or just as a Moabite convert to Judaism, the law allowed him to marry a female convert to Judaism. If he obtained a son from this union, this son would be recognized by all as a legitimate heir, thus securing Jesse’s family line. When the Canaanite woman was told of this plan, she did not want to participate, for she loved Nizbeth, and had seen the pain that she had gone through by being separated from her husband for so many years. So she told Nizbeth about Jesse’s plan, and the two of them decided to do what Laban had done so many years earlier with Leah and Rachel. So on the night that Jesse was to have relations with the Canaanite maidservant, she switched places with her Nizbeth. On that night, Nizbeth conceived, and Jesse remained ignorant of what had taken place. (My wife says that for this to work, Jesse must have been drunk. Same goes for Jacob.) But several months later, Nizbeth began to show that she was with child, and her seven sons, as well as her husband, all believed that she had committed adultery. The sons wanted to kill their adulterous mother by stoning (as the law called for) and her illegitimate baby with her, but out of love for his wife, Jesse intervened. Nizbeth did not reveal to her husband that the child was his, for she did not want to embarrass him by revealing the truth of what had happened. Instead, she chose to bear the shame of their son, much as her ancestress Tamar was prepared to be burned rather than bring public shame upon Judah, her father-in-law and the father of her child (Genesis 38:24-25). Ibraheem009:This is your opening sentence.......Sell to legit buyers, you won't hear. They will be saying we buy at low price. I don't know how else to open my eyes wella than this your opening sentence |
OkwaIfugo:waka pass my mention. if you know you are not matured enough to handle argument, never enter my mention again because if I insult you, you won't like it. if you are grown up, you won't be singing your own praise that you are legit. only a potential scammer does that so you can pass |
OkwaIfugo:so I should just believe your word that you are legit just because you said so. na wa oh. like somebody rightly said, you trade with people with long time presence either on nairaland or this section. it reduces your risk but doesn't eliminate the risk. so always trade with caution. You are not more legit than any other person on a faceless forum....long time presence and several completed trade transaction may make you less of a risk than Jonny just come but you can still scam. scam can mean using people's money to trade for days only to return it to them after the exchange is favouravle. scam comes in different forms so nobody, I mean nobody is legit. some are safer than the others |
Infinitikoncept:it takes only one trade to be a scammer. which consistency? several consistent people here over time later scammed people. so your next trade may be the deal that will make you a scammer. this is a faceless forum. I don't know you yet you are claiming to be legitimate. who made you legitimate? trade with caution....caution may mean escrow. |
OkwaIfugo:oga let me take you up on this. How do you know legitimate buyers? is it because you have traded with some people before that makes you legitimate? who accredited you to be legitimate. s how do you know I am not legitimate? you only need a single trade to be a scammer so your next trade may make illegitimate |
OkwaIfugo:so if there are legitimate buyers the only way to identify them is that they always buy more cheaply abi? you talk about instituting legal cases like that. you don't even understand nigeria. I used my house document at time to borrow a token 12million from a mortgage bank for 5yrs. I paid back in one year and they couldn't find my documents again. The case was reported at SFU the commissioner of police there told me they don't have time for cases less than 50million maybe I was not well connected. It took me two years to regularise. After paying lawyers the bank is going down....Resort savings and loans. we settled out of court because they were going bankrupt anyway. they only gave me 500k compensation which happened to be a dud cheque till date. I just called my lawyer we should sue for criminal issuance of dud. you can imagine the trouble I passed through in the last three yrars9. thank God I even paid back early. in medicine we treat everybody to be HIV positive until proven otherwise. in other words we take caution with everybody no matter the look. so also trading, trade with caution and if there are legitimate buyers the way to know them is not through cheaper prices |
@OkwaIfugo you probably don't know inspired autos. Google inspired outside nairaland. He made his money from nairaland. He is a wealthy young man now with several exotic cars. He has offices and well established with offline presence. He was even made a moderator on nairaland so at least seun knew him well. But go and read several threads about inspired. offline presence don't guarantee anything. you will at least have to settle police and do a lot of wahala. I once had a fraud case of 10million. A staff of my mortgage bank used my document to borrow loan 10 million loan elsewhere. when the case was reported at SFU they said they don't have time for cases less than 50million that time. I got my documents back after 2yrs and they gave me a token 500k compensation after several wahala you don't want to pass through. trade with caution. nothing more |
OkwaIfugo:not true. several previous legitimate buyers here later turned to be fraud. I've been on nairaland for 10yrs. inspired in auto section was the king of pre order. when fraudsters liked German 007 were being called out it was inspired that was like the tabbaz of auto section then till he defrauded many others. trade with caution with everybody. no legitimate buyer |
@ uniquepita is obviously a potential fraud if not one already. so you knew you were not the one that would send the money yet you were giving excuses your generator is down, your mobile banking is down, you are going to ATM for transfer bla bla bla when there was no money in the account. However, anytime there is fraud people start blackmailing the victim that he should have sold for less to legitimate buyers. nobody knows how much the transaction went for anyway but there is nothing like legitimate buyer. you trade with caution with everybody. @Ibraheem09 kept saying the guy would have refused to sell for less for somebody more legitimate. it is not moral. You guys are subtly empowering some people to dictate price for sellers cos they claim to be legitimate such that if such person got his fingers burnt you guys start blaming him for not selling for less to you. that is blackmail. You can blame him for not trading with caution not for not selling to you at a lower price. thank you |

though I am not an architect but this is too much of an insult for architects in nigeria. You are posting architectural challenge for our architects and na lock up shop. chai. I thought they finally wanted to build a bomb/ plane crash resistant tallest building in nigeria right in the middle of Atlantic ocean on bar beach only to realise you are mocking them with a lock up shop and even boasting the winner will win a design contract for a lock up shop from you. Every architect that post design on this thread must be avoided for serious project design. They must be jobless, classless and probably, quacks. |

itiswellandwell:What the small boy did is bad. Most of you guys will say there is no job in nigeria but you are killing the bold ones creating jobs. microfinance bank usually requires one on one relationship. there may be customers that this guy will be the only one that knows . Now he left abruptly without notice, without introducing clients to new staff and abandoned work after collecting salary. that is sheer wickedness. And the next thing you will say is that the employer is greedy. When it happens to you as an employer then you will understand how the oga feels |
silifx:tnks bro. nice deal |
Birniwa:100 dollars bought. tnks |
ultimateballer:not true but with panic selling expect it to touch down to 300 soon. I may be wrong . I know nothing about economics but this is the likely scenario |
ultimateballer:even the rise was artificial too, induced by people hoarding dollars so either way it is artificial. better sell the one you have now cos this market is so unpredictable. in order to get more goodwill Buhari may sustain this for so long hoping the hoarders will be frustrated to sell out their stock further pushing down the dollar. expect the dollar the reach 300naira soon . |
kingxy:I am here |
gocare:380? |
seunmsg:I support you as long as Buhari, who like Melaye is accused of forgery of cerificate steps aside pending investigation too. |
typical Nigerians.. ..we like to make noise on social media without facts. When the court now rules against our opinion we say the judge is bribed. Why did NBC banned Davido video, konga video etc for obscene scenes. isn't it by choice too? why did they ban showing of miracles by churches on TV? isn't it by choice too. The doctor is just calling the attention of the court to the fact that NBC has failed In fulfilling its regulatory role. Should NBC say it is by choice in court, others will start suing NBC if they ban their videos too. this is very very dicey |

Eruditor:for the last time let me teach you. crooks that don't pay custom don't necessarily sell cars cheap to end users. they are simply greedy so the cars are not necessarily cheaper. Happy sunday. The same way you are using a phone without full duty paid. ok you bought it as London used though. Run run run....Ali will soon confiscate your phone |
Eruditor:but if the country is not filled with idiotic people like you, the custom officer that collected lesser duty should go scot free while the end user that knows nothing about custom duty should suffer. confirmed.... you are a dunce!! Very soon, custom will confiscate the phone you are using to type this rubbish cos I know the crook that sold it to you didn't pay the full duty. if that is the only thing Ali will achieve to take you off the internet, I am fully in support of it. I hope you have the custom papers for your phone. fool |
Eruditor:i won't be tired of educating you. if police is guarding a car and the car is stolen, the first person that will be arrested is the police officer guarding it. your logic is defective that is even if you did one in school. the custom officer in this case is an accomplice by accepting to collect lesser duty. in the case of a missing vehicle police is not there. So these are two separate issues. moreso, the custom officers deliberately allowed the duty to be stolen because it is impossible to clear the vehicle from the port without an accomplice in custom. so unlike police and car theft, duty theft can be 100 percent eradicated simply by flushing out corrupt custom officers. you got it dunce? |
Eruditor:you are a fool now I know. After confiscating the vehicle, in your well cooked sahara report , how many officers were arrested as accomplice after confiscating the vehicle? If I have 5 million and I buy a vehicle from a car vendor and I don't have any other money and they now confiscate my vehicle for an offence committed by a custom officer is that justice? what kind of society are we running self with fools like you having access to internet. nigeria is doomed. once again Mr, you dont confiscate vehicles from end users after you failed in your work as a custom officer. purge the bad eggs in your system and things work out smoothly. ode |
Eruditor:you are the one making stupid assertion here. govt and it's agencies is a continum . Where is the paper used to clear saraki vehicle? custom should have records . who cleared it? why clear it without collecting proper duty? I am not a custom officer so it is not my duty to ensure I pay proper duty cos I don't even know proper duty. it is the duty of fraudulent custom officers so Ali should rather deal with corrupt custom officers and all these will stop. If I buy a vehicle from a dealer it is expected the dealer paid duty. I can't be punished for an offence committed by customs themselves. that is what we are saying mr |
