The District Head of Kakuri, Kaduna South Local Government Area, Alhaji Shehu Tijjani, has raised the alarm over the invasion of the community by giant exotic rats and cats. The monarch alleged that the giant rodents and cats were brought into the community through the containers belonging to companies operating in the neighbouring industrial area. The monarch said this while speaking at the graduation ceremony of about 10 beneficiaries of the Total Nigeria Plc Skills Acquisition Programme. He added that the giant rats and cats which now constituted a nuisance to the residents of the area, came into the community through the containers used by the firms to import raw materials. He therefore urged the government to save the residents of the area from the menace of these foreign rats and cats by carrying out an extensive fumigation of the community. According to him, the companies responsible for the unfortunate development has never bothered to assist the people in getting rid of the rodents and the cats. He said, “Total Nigeria Plc is the only company that is assisting our youths through this training; others are importing foreign rats and cats to cause problems for us in the community. “They bring these rats through their containers which they use for their industrial products. They don’t help us to fumigate the area.” Tijjani commended the management of Total Nigeria for sponsoring the training of the youths in the community in various trades and advised the beneficiaries to use the opportunity given to them by the oil firm to assist others in the community. The Corporate Affairs Manager of Total Nigeria Plc, Mrs. Moyo Areola, had earlier in her address, said that over N25m was spent on the training and procurement of work tools and equipment for the 10 beneficiaries. http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art2011033026437 |
President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday said he had signed the National Minimum Wage Bill into law. The President stated this in Abuja while addressing a combined delegation of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, which paid him a courtesy call at the Presidential Villa. The disclosure finally brought to an end the conflicting reports over the fate of the bill. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed, had reportedly claimed the bill had been signed while the Presidency denied the claim, saying that Jonathan was yet to receive the bill from the National Assembly. But following reports that the President had finally received the bill, Vice-President Namadi Sambo had, during the presidential debate on Monday, said Jonathan had signed the bill into law. But Sambo did not say when the bill was signed. Responding to concerns expressed by the leaders of the two labour unions about the fate of the new minimum wage bill during the courtesy call on Tuesday, the President said he had signed the bill into law. “Ordinarily, such a sensitive bill should have attracted a ceremony with members of the labour movement in attendance, but I did not want the tight schedule of the election campaigns to delay the signing,” he added. Speaking on the general elections, which begin from Saturday, the President said the elections would be different on the grounds that a lot of work had been done. He also said that each vote would count. “Before now, our elections have been questionable, but we are determined to conduct free, fair and credible elections that will be accepted in the comity of nations.” http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art20110330264268 |
British officers investigating the case of a boy’s torso found floating in the River Thames are planning to visit Nigeria. Adam, the name given to the young African boy whose torso was discovered in the River Thames, London on September 21, 2001 is believed to have been between the ages of four and seven. The murder is believed to be linked to a ritual killing. Despite the use of forensic science, the Metropolitan Police Service have not caught the killer nearly 10 years after. The torso was first discovered on the afternoon of Friday, September 21, 2001 as it floated past the Tower of London towards Tower Bridge in Central London. A passer-by crossing the bridge had noticed an orange object in the water, and realising it was a body as it passed under the bridge, alerted the police. The Metropolitan Police sent its marine search unit to the scene, who recovered the torso further downstream. The body was found to be the torso of a young black child, the orange being a pair of shorts around the stumps of the legs. The discovery of the torso shocked police, and prompted massive media coverage in the United Kingdom and around the world. The police named the body Adam in the absence of any positive identification. The headless and limbless body of the five or six-year-old child, was found near Tower Bridge in September 2001. Tests revealed that he was poisoned 48 hours before his death and was paralysed but conscious when he was killed. A woman was arrested in connection with Adam’s death in July 2002, but she was deported to Nigeria months later. Forensic tests, involving samples taken from the bones, linked the boy to West Africa and subsequently to Nigeria. Officers believe Adam’s death was a ritualistic killing and he had been poisoned with an extract from the carabar bean. Investigators also met with the former South African President, Nelson Mandela over the case. He subsequently made a public appeal for information about the boy in April 2002. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that the investigation team have been preparing to visit Lagos, Nigeria, in connection with the Adam inquiry. “They will be travelling in the near future.” http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201103302173987 |
http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201103302155740 The story of Kikelomo, 32, (surname withheld) is very pathetic and depicts the agonies of orphans and the predicaments faced by couples who are in desperate need of a child. On Friday in Abuja, Kikelomo painted a sad picture of how she was forced to have sex with her aunty’s husband and became pregnant in the process. That was not all: she contracted staphylococcus as a result of continuous sexual harassment from a man she called “daddy.” Although she could not give details of how she lost her parents, Kikelomo became an orphan when she was two-year-old. She was adopted by the couple. Her first sexual experience with her uncle was when she was just 14-year-old. Kikelomo, who is now married, gave the shocking revelation during a moot court trial organised by a group, the Network of the Bar, Bench and Police on Reproductive Health and Rights. The event was sponsored by a Non-Governmental Organisation, Ipas, which has Dr. Ejike Orji as its country director. Others in attendance include Justice Ishaq Bello of an Abuja High Court; a Justice of the Court of Appeal (Ilorin Division), Justice Centhus Nweze; and a Justice of the Customary Court of Appeal, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Justice Enemi Ojoko. Kikelomo, who consistently referred to her aunty’s husband as “daddy,” stated that during one of her sexual encounters with the man, she became pregnant and medical report confirmed that she was carrying conjoined twins. She said, “The doctor said the foetus was a set of conjoined twins. The doctor told my mother (her aunty) that abortion is illegal in Nigeria. But a friend of mine advised me on how to get rid of the pregnancy. We mixed potash; I swallowed it and I started having serious complications. ‘’The doctor diagnosed me and said I had a partial abortion. According to the doctor, part of the babies was already off and damaged. I was arrested by the police and detained for nine days. “My daddy (uncle) had threatened to kill me if I reveal the identity of the person who impregnated me. My uncle and aunty had been married for 10 years without a child. He said the pregnancy should not be aborted because they could be twin boys. But when I couldn’t keep it again, I told my aunty what I did and she wept uncontrollably. I was at the police station in Abuja when Ipas came to my rescue, got me released and took over my case.” In his welcome address at the occasion, the National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Paul Eshiemomoh, decried the low premium placed on women by the society despite the multiple roles they played as wives and home makers. He said, “I make bold to say that we are here because we do not love our women. If we love our women, we would not allow them to die needlessly; if we love our women we would not take advantage of their feminity by despoiling them. “If we love them we would not build hospitals without equipment; if we love our women we would not turn them to mere baby-making machines. If our women’s reproductive rights are respected, protected and guaranteed, there would be no need for this trial.” I don't really understand the bold part |

ACN biggest stronghold is Lagos. It's going to be between ACN and PDP with CPC having the @least 25% of the votes votes. |
I think there's nothing special about it because if He's the president he wont have time to watch matches. The best He's going to do is visit the eagle's camp. It's election time and everybody is trying to have the majority of the people. Didn't Obasanjo as ugly as He is walk into so many parks when He was president, It didnt stop Nigerians from disliking him. Obama did it. This is no humulity but strategy to win. |

Alj Uche:What law are you talking about? In a secular country like Nigeria, you want to impose a law that doesnt and can never fit into a section of the country. There's a law that must be followed or you simply go form your own islamic country. Kobojunkie:The topic says sharia law is to be supported in the SW. If anything of that sort happened in Aba, that's a violation of their fundamental human right. |

By Daniel Idonor PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, dismissed the antics and campaign strategy of his opponents in the April polls, saying that all their proposed solutions to the nation’s socio-economic transformation are hopeless. Speaking at the grand finale of his nationwide campaign held at the Eagle Square, Abuja, Jonathan said though his opponents were able to highlight Nigeria’s developmental challenges they could not proffer convincingly workable solutions. “Our opponents have done a very good job of reminding the populace of the challenges that are still facing the country but many of the solutions they proffered are hopelessly inadequate. Some of them seem they want to turn back the hands of the clock and take us back to methods that have failed repeatedly because they have not really assimilated investors demand and the new global focus on good governance”, the president said. “I will clear any vested interest that stands in the way of quick policy implementation and rapid economic transformation. This is my message to the private sector, both formal and informal. This is also my message to all investors, both local and foreign. We will work with you and partner with you to make Nigeria to work”. On corruption, he said he was determined to fight the vice at every level regardless of the position in the society adding that existing institutions would be strengthened and empowered to carry out their functions, without fear or favour. On security, he pointed out that even though there were cases of terrorist attack in the country, they are peculiar to Nigeria but it was a situation that would come to pass. “Politics does not mean that you have to carry knives and cut people, politics does not mean that you will have to carry fire and burn houses and property; politics does mean that you are going to beat up people, we totally reject it and the security agencies are going to deal with any situation as it deserves. “There will be no sanctuary for criminals in Nigeria, and if you get involved, be ready to face the law,” he declared. Also speaking, Vice President Namadi Sambo observed that Nigerians had made their position known that they are behind PDP because, according to him, the party stands for progress, development and transformation. “In the last nine months, our abandoned infrastructure for over 30 years, the railway transportation system is already working today. The power which before 1999 was completely abandoned without any investment, today, the president has revitalised power and insha Allah, within the next four years, the issue of power will be a thing of the past,” he said. All PDP state governors and gubernatorial candidates also pledged to deliver their various state to Jonathan and PDP Source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/03/my-opponents-ve-nothing-to-offer-jonathan/ |

It's a very simple case. If you truly and sincerely want to give him back his money, go to the bank and ask for his account number. Make sure his account number, his passport pics and his name corresponds before You send it to him. This is the only option to give him back his money by brute force. You dont need to fear nada. Anyways goodluck. |

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_us_libya WASHINGTON – U.S. and British ships and submarines launched the first phase of a missile assault on Libyan air defenses, firing 112 Tomahawk cruise missiles Saturday at more than 20 coastal targets to clear the way for air patrols to ground Libya's air force. In announcing the mission during a visit to Brazil, President Barack Obama said he was reluctant to resort to force but was convinced it was necessary to save the lives of civilians. He reiterated that he would not send American ground troops to Libya. "We cannot stand idly by when a tyrant tells his people there will be no mercy," he said in Brasilia. It was clear the U.S. intended to limit its role in the Libya intervention, focusing first on disabling or otherwise silencing Libyan air defenses, and then leaving it to European and perhaps Arab countries to enforce a no-fly zone over the North African nation. Navy Vice Adm. William E. Gortney, director of the Pentagon's Joint Staff, told reporters the cruise missile assault was the "leading edge" of a coalition campaign dubbed Operation Odyssey Dawn. Its aim: prevent Moammar Gadhafi's forces from inflicting more violence on civilians -- particularly in and around the rebel stronghold of Benghazi -- and degrading the Libyan military's ability to contest a no-fly zone. "This is not an outcome the U.S. or any of our partners sought," Obama said from Brazil, where he is starting a five-day visit to Latin America. "Our consensus was strong, and our resolve is clear. The people of Libya must be protected, and in the absence of an immediate end to the violence against civilians our coalition is prepared to act, and to act with urgency." A chief target of Saturday's cruise missile attack was Libya's SA-5 surface-to-air missiles, which are considered a moderate threat to some allied aircraft. Libya's overall air defenses are based on older Soviet technology but Gortney called them capable and a potential threat to allied aircraft. Also targeted: early warning radars and unspecified communications facilities, Gortney said. The U.S. military has extensive recent experience in such combat missions; U.S. Air Force and Navy aircraft repeatedly attacked Iraq's air defenses during the 1990s while enforcing a no-fly zone over Iraq's Kurdish north. Cruise missiles are the weapon of first choice in such campaigns; they do not put pilots at risk, and they use navigational technologies that provide good precision. |
