Thats the hypocrisy I’m against on this thread. They talk about goals and assist when talking of Hazard even when they know his game play is dribbling and driving the ball(not that his stat is poor) like iniesta. Hazard mostly played under defensive coach while at Chelsea while Neymar played for a dominated Barca and psg but they won’t be objective. Mention iniesta and Lampard dribbling will now matter.

As I already mentioned Barca played mostly a flat 4-3-3 formation with a switch to 4-4-2 diamond when Villa and Pedro came in to play as the two supporting strikers as Messi dropped in to play behind them as AM. This made Iniesta drop in to play as a LM/LW. That’s why you’ll see so many clips of Iniesta dribbling on the touch line.

When playing as a flat 4-3-3 formation, Iniesta played slightly higher because again he can break up defensive lines with dribbling and final 3rd passing but even at that Messi was still playing that false 9 role eliminating the need of an AM since Messi can also do all that better. So Iniesta didn’t need to push further in those instances.

Iniesta was mostly played as a CM that’s why Barca were so good at tiki taka in terms of forming those triangles and ball recoveries

Iniesta was CAM on paper but on the field he can roam to any position upfront and centrally. With this freedom he got Ibime and co expected more goal involvement from him. Personally, I admired and loved how iniesta played so I don’t have anything against him, I only talked against him when Lampard is not regarded just because he played CAM differently in different formation, tactics and league.

Salah and Foden are mostly system players so Defensive or disjointed tactics and formation doesn’t suit their game play. Saka is more direct and can excel in any tactics and formation.
