Politics › Re: What Benue Student Eyes Saw In The Hands Of Benue Politician In Abuja *PATHETIC* by herrdeustch: 1:16am On Nov 11, 2015 |
lilwheezy1: National Union of Benue State Student (NUBESS) Exco Stranded In Abuja:
The entire Exco members of the National Union of Benue State Students (NUBESS) are stranded in the Abuja home of the Senator representing Benue East senatorial district in the National Assembly.
The students chartered a Benue Link mass transit Bus in Makurdi and travelled all the way to Abuja on Sunday, 8th November to see Senator George Akume, their grand patron.
On arriving at the Abuja home of Distinguished Senator George Akume in Abuja, he refused to see them even though he is the grand patron of the union. The sad part of it was that the students sent him a letter about their planned visit, though I cannot categorically say if he acknowledged receipt of their letter.
While they were waiting at the gate of Senator George Akume's house, VIPs from Benue state kept on going in and coming out of the house but the students were not allowed to enter inside the compound.
At a point, Mrs Regina Akume, the wife of Senator Akume came out and blasted them saying her husband is not father Christmas. She said because her husband is a quiet person that is why they are taking advantage of him. She then asked them if they can go to Senator Barnabas Gemade's house or any other prominent Benue son or daughter's house with such a crowd in the name of NUBESS at this time of the night? She told them to go and look for where to sleep and go back to Makurdi first thing tomorrow morning. Thereafter she walked out on them and banged the gate in their faces.
Shortly after she left, the former General Manager (GM) of Benue Links Transport Coy, who is now a Commissioner in Benue state, Engr. Manger came outside and assured them that he will get accomodation for them to sleep this night.
The NUBESS Team left then left for the home of Dr. Paul Ohii the DG of NAFDAC to solicit for fund for the upcoming NUBESS week but met another disappointment when they learnt he traveled to London for an official engagement.
They then went to Apo to see Senator David Mark who they had previously sent an invitation letter for the forthcoming NUBESS WEEK, but were told he was not in town.
At this juncture, they retired to a cheap hotel where Engr. Manger had booked a room for them to spend the night. The THIRTEEN (13) of them slept in ONE room! Chaiiii!!!!
On Monday morning when they woke up, they took turn to have their bath and thereafter checked out of the hotel.
Their next port of call was the National Assembly complex where they were prevented from gaining access. At a point, the security personnel at the gate allowed the ONLY the President to go in and see Honorable (?) Herman Hembe representing Vandekiya/Konshisha Federal Constituency. However, when the House Committee Chairmen on F.C.T who nurses an ambition to become the next Governor of Benue state in 2023 got news that the President of NUBESS was on his way to deliver an invitation letter to him, he used an emergeny exit in the building and bolted out of the National Assembly complex like a RAT with his tail nicely tucked in between his legs. That's his usual nature, so no surprises here. NUBESS if you like vote for him in 2023, na una go here gwueeen, not me!
After their disappointing outing at the National Assembly, they visited Honorable (?) Oker Jev the DISHONORABLE member representing Buruku/Gboko federal constituency. Instead of providing them succor, he chastised them with scorpions and told them that he didn't send for them to come to Abuja, so he cannot assure or guarantee them help in anyway.
Their next port of call was the home of Hon.Dickson Tarkigh the DISHONORABLE member representing Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency. He asked them to drop their phone numbers with his Legislative aide for further action, (Whatever that means).
After roaming aimlessly around Abuja from one Benue politician to another, on Day 2 of their sojourn to Abuja in the quest for their own share of the National cake, they finally retired to the accommodation provided for them previously by Engr Manger where 13 of them plan to pass the night for another night and continue their travail tomorrow. An incredible story to say the least but its real! These are the travails of 13 Benue youth who abandoned their studies back home in Makurdi to beg for handouts from Benue politicians in Abuja.
These politicians are mean! As I type this from where I am seated at the Capital Bar sipping my shekpe and listening to Karaoke, I just sighted one of the DISHONORABLE Benue politician hobnobbing with a daughter of Jezebel, young enough to be his daughter. These are the wicked people Benue state is plagued with as elders. They speak well on the pages of Newspaper and local TV station in Benue, but when you encounter them in real life they are a totally different breed of Orangutan. I was fortunate to deal ruthlessly with one of them recently. Someone introduced me to a DISHONORABLE member of the Benue State House of Assembly at a lounge in Abuja and he offered to buy me a drink. I simply asked the waiter to bring me a bottle of Remy Martins XO. When they brought the bill, he called the waiter to cross check the price of the RM XO. He thought it was N5,000. The Barman told him, NO SIR, it is N50,000!
ALUTA CONTINUA.....
VICTORIA ASCERTA!
Watch out for Part 2.

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Shell Discrimination Of HND Holders, Equating Them With Bsc Third Class. by herrdeustch: 1:05am On Nov 11, 2015 |
baminasri: Right now, I find it very hard to call myself a Nigerian. What is the point of pledging loyalty to a country that cares not for the HND graduates?
As an HND holder, I graduated with distinction (Top of my class)from the top polytechnic in Nigeria. With high hopes, I applied for the ongoing shell graduate recruitment. The recruitment process involves an online registration and series of online aptitude tests prior to oral interview. What broke my heart during the registration was when I saw the column fo where to indicate your class of degree. First option was first class. Second was second class upper. Third was second class lower and the fourth was third class/HND. This means that irrespective of your grade in the polytechnic, shell sees you as a third class graduate. Well, I have moved on. Better things ahead. My advice to HND holders is to embrace entrepreneurship. That way, we can gain respect in the society. And for the country called Nigeria that have refused to stop this BSc/HND dichtonomy, what out for HND holders who will shape the economy soon!!! I don't know why HND graduates don't understand something so simple. The HND programme is a different skill set than the BSc programme-no body is discriminating against you guys! There are a lot of HND employees earning very good pay in the oil industry.Every qualification has its place and we all need to appreciate that. The major problem in Nigeria is not discrimination at all but lack of jobs due to the moribund state of Technological sectors and other heavy industries like mining, manufacturing and production generally. HND holders are technical people trained for technical work(we need to accept that) but unfortunately our Nation does not have the capacity to employ them. OP, shell is not equating you with failure as a HND holder, so do not misunderstand them as they have a fair employment record in Nigeria. So please and please, if you desire a job that requires a BSc,then by all means don't sit there moping and feeling discriminated against-do the needful and obtain your BSc,PGd and MSc and live your dream.Do not be deceived that HND is equivalent to BSc because that deception will cost you time, money and frustration just keep moving on. Myself I respect myself and I try to be honest with myself.I graduated with a 2:2 in Engineering.I don't go blaming any company that hires a HND holder with distinction over me or blaming shell for not hiring 2:2 just because I think I'am as smart as the guys with 2:1 - I just do what I'm supposed to do by adding value to my qualification! whether its a masters degree, a certification, an internship, a training, a volunteer programe etc, I keep forging ahead because the truth is that it is not easy even for the 1st class and 2:1 graduates to talk less of other grades or Qualifications.Wishing you all the best. |

YourMain: Oh my. I'm so embarrassed. Cringe is a slang here for an embarrassing or awkward situation. 1. Thanks for your reply (Although I'm not sure why you are embarrassed ? ) 2. Cringe is an English word - you explain here that it is a slang. Are you using cringe here as a slang or a proper English word? I am asking because: a.If you use it as slang then I bow for your slang skills-and concede my ignorance. b. In formal English, cringe also could mean a human response to embarrassment( or fear etc), which means that your usage of the word as a slang means the same thing as if you had used it formally . 3. No wahala, at the end of the day, I finally understand what you mean. Its a pleasure meeting ya, fine lady. |

eblazer: The truth be told our universities don't provide the ample opportunity to be full blown graduate ,but the fact still remains you cant attribute you failures to any person accept you... I would like to strongly disagree with you on this point. The Nigerian universities give you the fundamentals you need to be an accomplished graduate of your field. The only area where I fault them is in the area of practicals, research and contemporary knowledge. So in my own humble opinion, look at studying in Nigerian universities as a golden opportunity to study very hard- at the end you will be amazed that you can compete anywhere in the world with the fundamentals you have learnt; but you may have to seek to learn the extras yourself from the internet or from other professionals and networking. As proof of this, let me ask you a question-why do Nigerian graduates do so well abroad when they go to work or study to the extent that they become the best in their field or valedictorians? The simple answer is that they have been armed with the basic relevant knowledge while in Naija Universities. So its all about the attitude of our country generally.Nowadays secondary school students who have no responsibilities of any kind still cannot pass WAEC but buy their results. Why?is it that the curriculum has changed? No , the curriculum has not changed, but the people have changed and they try to blame that decline on many things except their lack of study discipline. |

Rapmoney: You are worse than a half-baked graduate! Orue!!! Lolz. Rapmoney I no blame you. But seriously try to do some research on what it means to be an engineering graduate ok. In the engineering profession there are different expectations for your training and education which are not immediately obvious to the uninformed. University engineering graduates are in essence trained in fundamental engineering theories to understand the principles of how things work most importantly and first of all.So to put it in perspective, Your mechanical engineering graduate is taught about the fundamental principles of how mechanical systems work generally and not the specifics(He learns the specifics by going for advanced courses or during training or on the job,At this point he is known as an engineer in training and in countries like Nigeria is not yet qualified to be designated as an Engineer till after 4 years of such learning period. So simply put, a Mechanical Engineering graduate in Nigeria is just someone who has been imparted fundamental and generic knowledge and needs to further learn through relevant experience and training). A university engineering graduate is actually not expected to be practical oriented in the sense in which you are applying it (repairing motor vehicles in this case). The primary expectation on him is his ability to use numbers, formulas ,codes standards and best practices to resolve problems or propose improvements to systems .Take careful note of this. You should also know that in Engineering there are different levels of responsibility and hierarchy 1.The university engineering graduate is at the top of this hierarchy and makes designs and decisions based on engineering principles calculations, laws, codes and standards. He is the de-facto head and supervisor of all the others 2.The Technician is usually a polytechnic grad who is trained to practically apply the engineering knowledge generated by the Engineer to build maintain and operate engineering systems.(He can perform repairs on your vehicle if that is his field) 3.The craftsman is a skilled worker that does specialized manual tasks such as a plumber , fitter, Mechanic etc(He should be the one to change your bulb if an electrical craftsman or service your vehicle if an automobile mechanic). It is also important for you to know that being a Mechanical Engineer means a billion and one things. There are over 20 different branches of mechanical engineering ranging from fluid mechanics to thermodynamics to tribology to Mechanics to nanotechnology to mechatronics to robotics to automobile technology etc etc. So a lot of times , the guy that introduces himself to you as a mechanical engineer is actually specialized in something seemingly abstract to you and knows only a little about automobiles through his professional training (and even the stuff he knows relates to how to design its systems and how they work rather than how to change oil filter or any other maintenance service procedure). Also important for you to note is that there is a difference between a mechanical engineer ,an automobile engineer , a mechanic an automobile mechanic. They are not all the same. An automobile engineer is basically a mechanical engineer trained in the theory and design of automobiles.Their job is to design bigger better, faster and more efficient vehicles along with developing better ways of operating and maintaining such vehicles. A mechanic refers to any trained craftsman or worker who carries out maintenance repairs on Machinery in general,so he could be a generator mechanic, train mechanic etc.An automobile mechanic or automotive mechanic is a skilled craftsman that maintains automobiles. So my learned colleague,I agree with you that it is a good thing to be able to change your light bulb and service your car,but it isn't the right criteria to judge an engineering degree .Lets do everything within the illumination of relevant facts. And we must also be willing to accept positive criticism and learn as this is also the mark of a "fully baked Graduate" |

Rapmoney: The Ivory Tower is supposed to be a place where one is expected to be well-grounded with the ability to present oneself to the outside world in the best possible way. This is the same reason why people in the eastern parts of Nigeria refer to it as 'Mahadum' which literarily means 'Know it all'.
It is so pathetic to come to terms with the fact that the reverse is the case as can be seen in most graduates today in our society! Below are some signs to show that someone who passed through the Ivory Tower could still be a half-baked graduate! :
1) You can't apply the uses of the 8 Parts of Speech in speaking and writing. Some Engineering and Science graduates would tell you that this isn't important because these are not part of their course of study! What an unforgiveable fallacy!!! So what have you been doing during your primary and secondary school days? I know very well that 'Parts of Speech' is the foundation of English as far as the subject is concerned. So, it means you have not been serious all those years to learn the foundation of communication!!! Whether you like it or not, English is the lingua-franca in Nigeria and if you can't communicate fluently in it, you are a half-baked graduate!!!
2) You can't read beyond two pages of a book. Reading is basically one of the various ways of learning so if you can't read beyond two pages of a book, I seriously wonder how you managed to pass your courses in the university! There are graduates who complain frequently about a 20-line write-up being too lengthy to read...they are many on this forum! The truth is that you would definitely miss out on vital information if you have this character and you are no better than a half-baked graduate!!! Quote me if you like!
3) You studied Mechanical Engineering yet you still take your car to the mechanic workshop to change common engine oil and other little things!
4) You studied Elect/Elect, yet you can't even change as simple as a lamp holder in your house! You are a half-baked graduate!!!
5) You can't teach others! If you can't transfer the knowledge and skills you claimed to have acquired in school to others, it surely makes you a half-bakie!!! . If the 'illiterate' carpenter or welder can transfer his knowledge and skills to others, what stops you from doing same as an 'educated' person? Every graduate should have the ability to teach. You would be shocked when you see how some graduates of Political Science teach Government in the schools where they are undertaking their NYSC primary assignment! . Some don't even know the meaning of a constitution!
6) You are a half-baked graduate if you still lack confidence in conversing intelligently and creating relationships with fellow ambitious and enlightened graduates like you!!! Stop chasing small street girls that hawk one thing or the other and go for your class if you know you are 'good-to-go'
7) You are a half-baked graduate if you still cannot read and write efficiently! As funny as it sounds, some 'graduates' can't read and write as learned folks! Maybe, you need to be enrolled in Reception Class in a nursery school where you can learn the basics of reading and writing
8. You are a half-baked graduate if you cannot use Microsoft Word! We will forgive you if you don't know any other basics in ICT but not Microsoft Word!!! In this modern time? Who go type CV and edit for you?
9) You are a half-baked graduate if you still sit joblessly in beer parlours, enthusiastically discussing secret cult escapades you had in school while your mates are busy building their careers in Agip and Exxon Mobil!!!
10) You are a half-baked graduate if all you could do with your BlackBerry and Iphone6 is to download numerous porn movies and chat with random girls!!!
Peace! One love!!! For you to include item 3. and 4. in your list, you are a half-baked graduate! |

I bow for una oo Immediately I saw this vehicle , I became inspired. This new material concept could be a very viable research topic for the automotive industry-the development of a new material that retains certain properties inherent with woven structures. Some of these possible gains could be 1. A reduction in material mass needed to make vehicle bodies (and maybe even the chasis) 2. Advancement in the concept of the Mechanics ,shock resistance and failure modes of vehicular structures (leading to safer vehicles and less loss of lives in accidents) 3. Advancement in the aerodynamic and fluid mechanics properties of vehicular surfaces 4. Advancement in the aesthetics of vehicles 5.Cost savings in automotive production due to improved materials and methods and reduction in material weight. 6. Etcetera I think the guy is a genius in the making .I pray that the right research looks his way and Destiny smiles on him.Best of luck. P.S The greatest ideas that change the world the most always look insignificant to the uninspired and undiscerning. |

GET READY TO REDUST YOUR CV Please give our guy here a soft landing.Dont misinterpret people because people are different and God gave us all different capabilities. Some people are game changers and innovators who constantly make powerful contributions to their organization, society etc.Unfortunately many nigerians see them as oversabi or a threat which is unfortunate and one of the reasons why nigeria is not moving forward. If the boss was a wise person, instead of feeling intimidated, she will groom the young man, menthor him, repackage him, utilize him, and make him her loyalist as well as develop him .By doing so, value has been added to everyone involved especially herself and the company. So far I see passion in the young man and not pride, but this experience will give him much needed experience in working with people which is like a school of its own. |

1.Start thinking about being a consultant on your own.For you to make an improvement of 15% at no cost to your company, then I belive you have what it takes. 2.Start thinking of starting up your own company.Im not sure what you do , or what your company does, but start thinking of how you can start your own from a convenient point of the business. 3.RELAX.Yes, relax for sometime and study what your present organization is doing wrong.Remove your mind from trying to introduce new solutions and just observe, observe, observe. 4.Win the confidence of your boss.Be loyal to your boss.Remember you work for your boss and your bosses programme and not yours. 5.Pray for God's direction 6.Continue to develop yourself while planning your exit 7.Sell yourself. You have proven that you can add value to your organization. Its time to start hunting for another place that is in dire need of talent like yours. 8.I'm proud of you.Goodluck |
