Was wondering why she would refer to them as 'Fela's wives' and still drag the issue of people calling them sluts. I believe that she knows what it entails to be called someone's wife- that takes away the slut thing. |
Taylor184:Cerebral remark sir! Why did God made man and woman and not man and man? They should be left to ponder on that. The unity in diversity that should ensure the continuity of humanity through collective involvement, gender balance etc would be threatened if a gender feels it needs only a similar gender to move ahead on life. It points to a divisive stage where a world will be for the women and maybe one for the men. Proper orientation for kids. It is odd for parents to tell kids going to school not to play with someone of the opposite sex. No, define the extent of the play for them and let teachers take it up from there. Of a child grows with such orientation of play with Jane, she is a girl too, not John, it can register the wrong message in her mind and yield a wrong result that the parents won't even be proud of. The idea of girls only or guys only school does not seems to achieve more good than evil- scrap it. If that won't work, develop measures to serve as checks on potential excesses. Right from their teens, African parents should avoid the oversensitivity on sex education. Teach your children and let them know certain things. Most discover things on their own to the wrong side. My brothers they are many, instead of that line of argument we all promote. But the world is sick, people just read to bother their fingers and not to ponder. |
2prexios:Well, you have a point. Nonetheless, this shame of a thing won't end if we don't apply logic to the points we use in convening it. Peace |
2prexios:Òré, jòwó bí ènìyàn ko èdè Yorùbá tí ò fi àmì tó ye pón o lé, bí eni tó n pègèdè ni. I couldn't read you right and to continue with me, write as you should. |
JUSTbuchi:I don't know your definition of big grammars and vagueness. However, I'll let that slide. |
2prexios:Like can you for once make a remark without a touch of insult? I write for people who are intelligent enough to understand. Did I ever support homosexuality in that piece? The problem with most people on this forum is that they read not to understand but to reply! Àgbà tíò keùn sòró, á ketan sáré. E ní sùúrù fún àkàyé! |
Immanueladebol:It is evil, but we should not try to condemn it with the argument that it does not pave way for proper sexual intercourse between a man and a woman. It will make us sound immoral. There are better arguments. |
There is a celebrated fable in one of the Yoruba textbooks some of us read in the late 90s- it was about the tortoise and the snail. The tortoise had gone to his in law's (snail) farm to steal tubers of yam- obviously, a disgraceful act in most society, he was caught by snail and embarrassed. His kind of embarrassment was somewhat epic- he was tied to a tree at the market square for passersby to see and mock. In the earlier stage of the punishment, it was a pleasant sight for everybody to see the incredibly indolent tortoise in such a disgraceful state. However, the pleasure soon faded as the mockery of tortoise soon turned to pity. He has been left in that state for too long and then justifications started emerging for his act- was he not his in-law? After all, he won't eat the yam alone- the villagers chorused. In a moment, the burden of blame had shifted from tortoise to snail. At the end, the snail had the embarrassment. This piece is to call us to order- the crusaders of 'sound' morals, the homophobic, keepers of faith and religion, the 'sane' men and the bandwagon on the side of culture and tradition from ending our strive against homosexuality disgracefully. Homosexuality has been met with strict criticisms in different parts of the world. Even in the countries where it has been honoured with a stay, voices still abound lamenting the evil in making legal what God has made illegal. Their argument has been that God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Paul or Eve and Rose. To indicate God's profound dissent to homosexuality, we have been reminded of His furious visit on Sodom and Gomorrah. We need not do a review of this, it suffices to make religiously inclined individuals to steer clear of this aberration. That in itself is an headache for the atheist- a peep into their heart revealed their begging question 'can an inexistent being set a precedent?' They strongly hold that 'God is not the creator of man, but God is the creation of man's own imagination.' An argument whose rebuttal would be left to lie awaiting occasion here. From another perspective- the school of morality and culture which are almost inseparable Siamese twins hold that homosexuality is evil, alien and defeats the whole essence of a union- to consummate, procreate and increase the human race. For this school, it is a shame because homosexuality does not pave way for the above. In morally condemning this emerging culture of homosexuality, we have allowed ourselves to be ridiculed as the very people who wallows in moral decadence. We have tied homosexuality to the stake at the market square, but one of our key reasons is set to make a fool of us as dawn becomes dusk- the moral argument and our orientation. First, it is a reflection of a dwindle in moral strength for anyone to have thought that the essence of a union is to consummate and procreate. By its logical understanding and principle of normalcy, a union that seeks to consummate and procreate alone itself does not become a union without the presence of certain factors- companionship, love, trust, freedom, security etc. Charity begins at home- a consummation which leads to the existence of another being in an environment lacking the stated factors is like the birth of another evil in the world. Are we saying that consummation or procreation is the bedrock of a union? When an average person condemns homosexuality, his words reflect his mind- a mind angry at why proper sexual intercourse would be absent in a union- a man and a woman in a sexual state. But does it even paint us as sincere in our strive against the terror of homosexuality? Gays, lesbians and others in that line listen to our arguments and read our takes, but they laugh and develop a stronger will because we are doing the right work with the wrong tool. Would it have made a difference if a man feels that happiness is what he wants in a union and he sees it in an old friend who has bought his trust without sexual attachment? He is free, happy, contented and complete around him. Does that make him gay? A union between a man and a woman that leaves the woman as a sex slave, victim of constant battery and emotional trauma is a union. Right? As long as it is a man and a woman and 'sex' is involved- they have satisfied the society, but the essence of life is defeated- freedom, love, happiness, peace etc, etc. On the moral and cultural grounds, our arguments are dangerous and they make us appear like sexual perverts before homosexuals and unprejudiced thinkers. We must start seeing unions beyond a sexual venture before we can convince them that nature itself does not understand an unexplainable attraction to the same sex. Can you tell your boy child to avoid closeness to the next door neighbour's son because he can't have babies for him and sound reasonable? Other explanation or reasons will do but not with our chant about consummation and procreation. In a bid to nip the danger of homosexuality at the bud through moral justification, we have ridiculed our own struggles before the other side. Reasons abound to condemn homosexuality on a moral ground but not the one we sell about- it is just not about sexual intercourse. |

They abound in our boulevards, in corners strategic and delicate- dressed in tattered cloths that stink. You know them- those reputed for the dance of humour, with their tangled and unkempt hair- a certification of years of religious abstinence from bath. They sing too- unsolicited songs savoured only by their uncoordinated dance steps and stridency of beats, emanating only from broken plastics, rusty iron tools and then to be audible, a stick as a microphone for the sake of audience. But there is something you cannot take away from them- their seeming contentment which mocks our very hustle- we, their brothers and sisters on the other side. You can deny that, but are we not mad too? Our brand of madness is so petty as the basis of it. Reasons not genuine anger us and we throw caution into the air- vowing never to talk to our own brother for his little mistake that affects us. Out of fury, we swear to the high heavens that it is over in our relationships, where we should actually take a pause to understand. We get mad and then decide to terminate the employment of our employee. When our own madness surfaces, it is not uncommon for us to withdraw our favour and leave the other side at the mercy of life's spiky hands. We do not think of what will become of those at the receiving end. We get mad everyday- some go unnoticed, and we pretend not to be in many instances- concealing our fury and sinister motive in laughter and pregnant words, 'it is okay', 'I am all right' etc, etc. But here we are, making a mockery of people who would not hide the fact that they are mad at life as a whole. They withdraw no favour with their brand of madness and they plot no retaliation against anyone while in that state. They didn't care about the expensive cloths like us, they know when life clothes you, it will take it one day. They are deep to realize that when life raises you today, you may be at the bottom of the ladder tomorrow. Within the four walls of your room, can you remember the number of plates you've broken out of anger? The cloths you've torn due to fury? What about the souls and emotions you've ripped by words because you are mad? The many wrong signals sent by your reactions to the unintended wrong actions of others? But that is the secondary mad men we are- we come all out after the hidden show of shame and display of destructive madness looking sane- dazzling with smile and glowing in expensive outfits. Do not be misguided, your outfit does not make you any better than those dancers of humour in rags. Madness is a thing of the mind and sleeping in the garage does not make anyone a car. That you have not been admitted for a rehabilitation or found wandering unclad does not make you less of a dancer in the choir of humour. In their madness, they've entertained people. How many people have derived happiness, even from your 'civil' madness. Through their dances of humour, they make a living. Who has rewarded you for your hate speeches those times anger called? Like them, we are all mad, but ours has destroyed the world more than it met it, while their input in lunacy would rather be to watch than complicate the world. Tomorrow, when you see that neighbour pass by and you whisper something spiteful about her to your friend, that is madness. When you raise your voice in an argument instead of your points, it is lunacy at play. And when you see a dancer of humour in his tattered cloth on the boulevard today and you laugh, think about the basis of your laughter- it sure won't worth it, and only then will you realize that you are only different in outlook. Here, they are mad just like us. Perhaps on a larger scale. While ours is for a part of the whole, theirs stand for the whole- life. They are mad at it for the many evil it harbours, for the orphans that are denied what it takes to compete in it, for the good people left to sleep like the evil men, for our hypocrisy and mediocrity. They have decided to ignore connection with life and it's characteristic chase- they are angry with life, they are mad with it, and like modest people do when they are pissed at someone or a circumstance, they do not shout or cause chaos- they just let the person be till the heat of passion gets cool. That is what they do- the mad ones are pissed with life and they need a break through a dance of humour, but next time, just before you laugh at that dance, ask yourself 'if life deals me the same blow like them, won't I be as mad as this? |
Those whose commitment to culture is guided by utmost dogma should not read this piece. Here is the reason, I will bruise your ego, that is not the worse part, the worse part is that I won't apologise. This mission has long become one to express and not to impress and if we see anybody that is not happy with this union, he should not indicate his dissent now and he should keep his mouth shut forever. A couple of days back, I was informed by a friend that Chief Abobaku of Ife has disappeared. 'Abomination', I interjected, jumping up from my seat. 'He must have lost his way to the palace', I concluded. Assuring my informant that if the Abobaku doesn't cause appearance at the palace within 3 days, I will personally write to INTERPOL, FBI, LAPD, NYPD, SWAT, EFCC, ICPC, NDLEA, NAFDAC, INEC and other 'relevant' agencies in that line to comb the nooks and crannies of this very small world within few hours and fish him out. I won't write the Police here, I stopped taking them serious the day I went to facilitate the bail of a Client's son and saw them selling bread and drinks for those detained right at the counter. That is me, I am culturally inclined like that and I do not take shit when anybody wants to make a mess of the culture that has been put in place since time immemorial. What is there? Is it not for Abobaku to just die with the king only? Looking at this tradition again, one must admit that Africa is rich in culture and tradition. While exercising my hand for the epistle I planned on writing to those agencies by eating a plate of 'eba', something struck my mind- Abobaku must have seen that movie- Prison break. If not, he must have read that book- Ààre Àgò Aríkúyerí. This is where those self-acclaimed Yoruba who prides in English, but not their mother tongue would feel shame. The shame is not because you've not read the book, I haven't read millions of books written in Yoruba language too, but the shame is because you can't even read one when you get it. So, that book must have been a recipe for Abobaku's missing his way to the palace. For God sake, 'the pigeon does not dine and wine with its host and flee when death comes.' Yes, Abobaku is not a pigeon, but our very rich culture has made him one. He should please come and die now. Abobaku, I know you are reading this, please come and die for the sake of our culture. Ours is a very interesting society, at least, on the altar of dignifying impunity with words. The primitive mentality of certain African conventions still intoxicates us and for that, we are slaves to our own very beliefs. Recently on a television program I watched people who were making their opinions known on the prohibition of same sex marriage in Nigeria. Like me, all those who made remarks abhor it, but unlike me for the wrong reason. The argument against it ranged from 'it is against our culture', 'how would a fellow lady have children for me' and outrageously, one man who was 'morally' inclined did say that there is no where he can 'penetrate' in another man. A logician would figure it out, that this same man is misguided- when we talk about union, penetration should not be a driving force. I abhor the act of homosexuality but not for their type of reasons. You know, our culture is rich and it can't be checked. Brazenly, a plethora of African cultures and traditions are laudable- the culture of respect, discipline, hard work, communication and others, but yet, a lot ought to be dropped with the dark ages. So, Abobaku, according to the media is a traditional title in Ife and he must die with the King. That is a good one- the king would need to get one or two things at the mall, he would need to use the ATM, he would need someone to woo one of the beautiful ghosts on his behalf. So, why won't Abobaku keep him company? We must be fair to the king, but we can't do that in this case and still be reasonable men. So, this argument is not a logical one- it is just cultural and hence, Abobaku must die and I am here to proffer solutions. You see, Abobaku is a man like us- sometimes we all make mistakes. The mistake he made was feeling that living is better than dying with a whole king. Abobaku, choose wisely- a glorious death with a first class king is better than anything. Abobaku, you can't equate yourself to Peter who denied Jesus. These facts will reveal to you that Abobaku used the Bible in his planning process for escape. Is it now out of place to say that someone as vast as that did not arm himself with the provisions of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Right? Do you think that Abobaku is not in the know that there is a Court known as International Criminal Court? You really think that someone as informed as Abobaku won't be able to afford a US visa? And were the staffers of the airlines at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport trained to identify a fleeing Abobaku? I am sorry, but Abobaku is not in Africa, because our culture does not suit his present interest. We can think of negotiating with him- possibly an offer of euthanasia. If that doesn't work, we can make efforts for his extradition. If that fails, let the gods we seek to appease think about the option of traveling to the United States or United Kingdom to pick their lamb. And at the risk of sounding like a clown, ransack Abobaku's house. I am certain you will see a copy of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as Amended in 2011), that is exactly where he read about the freedom to life. There should be a clause in the contract of the next Abobaku- that his contract shall be revoked if caught with a copy of the Constitution. I am sorry for thinking that Abobaku missed his way to the palace. After all, no one was leading him there initially- he only adopted a modern logic to an old tradition. |

The 7 pieces of cowries shells landed on the dusty ground as the Chief priest fixed his gaze on them to figure out the voice of the god. 'Ask them- ask the gods of my forefathers what will become of my only son and how his journey in life shall be.' The old king of N'baani kingdom charged forward from his royal seat as he staggered front and back right before the villagers. For the first time, Dibia, the popular diviner was confused- the gods appeared to be speaking in tongue this time. The curiosity was boldly written on the face of the villagers as they all gazed at the cowries shells which had became brown from years of consultation. 'Whaaaaaat are the ancestors saying? Did my fathers attest that he-he-he would le- le- lead N'baani to where they desire?' The stammering King questioned as he moved from the Dibia to the baby who was placed by a scary statute. Still uncertain of the god's message, Dibia picked the cowries shell one after the other and turned to the King with his two hands directed to his mouth. 'Your majesty, ask from the gods and they won't fail you.' Then again, the King moved his mouth to Dibia's hand and mumbled a few words. Swiftly, the Dibia bent down and separated his hands at the centre of a circle drawn on the quick sand. The cowries shell dropped consecutively as Dibia heaved with relief. He turned to the curious king and smiled, then walked a few steps to the baby with a cup of white substance, he painted the baby from head to toe and lifted him up. 'Here is the pride of N'baani, here is the one sent to do our kingdom proud, here is the white one whose mission is to cleanse the land, here is liberation.' A stridency of celebratory clatters emerged from the crowd as the king gallivanted up and down in happiness. The night was troubled with cold as the frogs croaked rhythmically on the path to the stream. The moon was fainting as the dark cloud struggled to swallow its illumination completely and the earth was left with little light for marauders to operate. Ibe, the King's nephew had walked towards the path to the stream with his cutlass firmly held to his side by his arm. A moment after the dark cloud won its battle against the moon, another man whose identity could not be identified took the same path. For Ibe, it was a routine- to check his traps if a successful catch has been recorded. However, one could not figure out the motive of the other man whose identity has been firmly concealed by the absence of the moon. The night passed and was greeted by a morning of mourning- the villagers abound at the palace wailing and making side comments. Remember Ibe? His body was found just beside that of an antelope in the bush- his head was shattered by what is suspected to be a bullet from a gunshot. This time, the villagers would get to the root of this- they could manage to stomach their numerous loss of properties in recent time, but not the loss of a man like Ibe. In fact, they wanted to know the one who robbed Bulu's house four nights ago. They needed the gods to tell them who set Mensa's barn on fire for unknown reason. And the gods must reveal, which kind of animal is responsible for the sudden disappearance of the livestock. The Dibia drew his circle again before the frail king who was already in his mid-nineties. In alertness, the villagers watched as the Dibia made to disclose the vision. The Dibia looked up and beckon on the Prince who was sitting right beside his father. The Prince majestically moved to the Dibia who held him by the hand and announced, 'the gods spoke again, the King is old and like he took over from his fathers, as said when the Prince was born, the Prince will take over before the next yam festival. He is our liberation. It is him that the gods assigned to cleanse the land.' The villagers felt relieved and departed for their various homes. The Prince walked inside slowly mourning the incumbent King in advance as the tradition demanded. He got to his room, bolted the door and lifted a slate up a basket, then happily, he removed his confidant and placed it on his right thigh. Then he smiled at it for the wonderful performance in the execution of his potential rival to the throne last night. |
Learned friend, I like the message you silently send. Some dramas are better watched without comment. Claroo |
This is one of the most practical and intellectually engaging piece here. I also suggest that people should improve their orison through constant research. You may be a linguist, but nothing precludes you from reading on Occupational utility of labour, Lina Medina, Laws of Thermodynamics etc. Learn a language (foreign or local) Learn to play a musical instrument Invest, no matter how little If you can, learn chess Be vast in the knowledge of your religion books I.e Bible or Quran Develop a good personality, you don't have to need favour before you put up a smile. People don't have to be around before you do good. On social media, watch your remarks and how you comment on issues Avoid pseudo names on your Facebook page, it might be the avenue through which you will be contacted for something. Avoid relationships that would wear you off psychologically- when you build yourself, all things will fall through. Be known for something outside your field. You are an accountant, Yes... But think about an accountant that plays saxophone or writes poems. That is a plus. Finally, success is one of the cheapest commodities you can get in the market of life as long as you have the right negotiating skills. All the best. |

A firm needs a skilled website designer who can do an impressive job in less than a week or two. He should be able to build an impressive website which will be easy for online visitors to navigate through. It shall contain the pictures and profile of staffers in the entity and other necessary information. Kindly drop your contact here if you fit in and let us discuss and negotiate. Thanks. |
Beamborla:Enjoy your day Miss Beamborla. The 'poetic prose' that opened this reply of yours sought to smear mud than address the issue. So, when people don't follow your line of thought, they become tartuffes & pretenders? I don't do that. |

Beamborla:Thanks for the admission. On the argument of how they mirror the society, I am not so in terms with your opinion- this part of the world is not known for promoting nudity or encouraging it. So what was it that they mirrored? That we like to run for products advertised with nude ladies? Or that our reasoning tilts more towards sexually stimulating pictures than quality and brand when it comes to products? Why? You are not fair on the society with that leg of your argument. They mirrored the other side and felt we would buy it too. Well, I think that I'll let this lie- since your argument is impliedly that WHEN you see a dying man, you should just finish him. Or how do we explain them 'mirroring' the society as a sexually driven one and projecting that with the advert? So much to do. Between, I never said they were entirely guilty from the onset, my point has been that that trend should also be checked if the war against sexual perversion would be won. Thanks |
Beamborla:Good submission again, but it is dangerous to vindicate this trend from the sexual abuse concern. I'll just drop this- to a very great extent humans are influenced by what they see, hear and learn everyday. Justify that with almost unclad ladies used for TV adverts. And one more thing, you didn't answer the question of logic in such advert. I ignored that part where you said something like men would be moved to buy TV because of those pictures. Maybe you didn't know, you only identified how much damage such advert has done to the psychology of most men. Nudity should not promote any product, quality should. The moment men start buying it because of those pictures, women stand higher risk of sexual abuse. If you can buy a product because of the picture of a semi-unclad lady used for the advert, you can molest. I repeat, such person has a sexual violence tendency. That reason is just too petty. Thanks |
Beamborla:You don't deserve any condemnation, you were so civil and reasonable in your submission. Well, you have a point, but can we hide under the guise of advert to promote evil vis-à-vis sexual abuse? |
There is a war against our women, it is one which we all concede should proceed- by commission or omission, right before our very eyes. It is raging, but in its deceitful cloak, it cajoles us all beyond the lenses of our vigilance and sensitiveness. Perhaps, defeating good judgement, public policy and native morals just on the altar of business, for the users and then. choice or maybe, consent for those used. You know it, I know it- leaving all of us in the know of a show of shame. A mockery of our collective fight against sexual abuse, a myopic and perverted judgement of our girls, ladies and women as mere sex objects, to be dignified, they say sex symbol. Logic is the reason why emotion has not led humanity into oblivion. But it is to the nose to point out very quick, that logic without a touch of emotion makes man a wild beast. The absence of one without the other sure spells doom- the type which is set to develop into an atomic bomb capable of eroding the values and worth of a typical woman if we keep keeping silent. It was a huge billboard that I saw in Lagos a few months back- carrying inscriptions so enticing- advertising the product of an electronic company. A JJC in the city would be cajoled- dropping whatever goal he has in life to concede that men are created to buy a plasma television and nothing more. It shouldn't be new, in Nigeria common balm is advertised in manners that suggest that it can cure cancer. In this case, the inscription was not enough, a picture of an almost unclad lady holding a remote occupied almost half of the space in the advert. It was really not an eyesore for me, but a mental task as the driver zooms off. What is the message? What is the logic? What is the nexus? I thought about it and nothing sensible connected with the advert. Are plasma televisions meant for half-unclad ladies? Will they give me one for free if I go to their office with an unclad lady? If I buy it, will I need an unclad lady to operate the remote before it works? I was confused- a sarcastic confusion at that. Then, in its very untiring nature, it kept looking for me all over the places. I started stumbling more on soap adverts with pictures of ladies revealing more than enough cleavages, thighs almost to the level of buttocks and all that. Again the questions came- is that a warning to ladies that cloths would no longer cover their body decently once they use any of these soaps? Are the soaps meant for only strippers? It went on and on. And now it is gaining prominence- for cushioned seats, it was all about a lady who barely covered anything in the advert. For mattress, the same applies. Is it now strange that sexual perversion is the order of the day as perpetuated by men and women who are more beastly than others? It is now very common that it has stylishly crept into our style as acceptable. There is a freedom of choice- anybody may choose to go unclad to the market or anywhere, but beyond the legal exceptions is logic staring right into our eyes. At least, reason should be sufficient. As grave as the offence of murder is, the law shifts to the side of logic when provocation or self defence comes to play. It is being bought even in religious gathering, unclothedness is almost the norm. The agencies saddled with the responsibility of regulating advertisement should look into this fast growing trend. Business enterprises and corporate bodies cannot hide under the guise of civility and insult the struggles of responsible and decent ladies by promoting this sick culture. We cannot shut our eyes and lament that life is dark on our side. These anomalies are no small things and should be checked if the fight against sexual abuse and harassment will die the death that it is long overdue entitled to. A continuation of this anomaly is a war against women- one that we all endorse by our mere silence. God forbid a day that an ideal lady will be the determined by the number of her unclad pictures that are circulating on billboards, hand bills and the internet. |
Noted. But your 'I met someone', 'someone told me', 'I was somewhere' etc didn't make all sound true. You experienced all these? Haba. |
theunusualmoon:It is okay. If it is my piece, you would either see Hidentity or no name under it. |
