Nairaland GeneralMay I Not Make Your Heaven by Hidentity(op):
Some days back, I read about the brutal treatment of a section of the Muslims by some Nigerian soldiers, even around their boss. This piece is not to look into the issue like most writers did already. From the ubiquitous perspective, more deft writers already did justice to the issue, even better than I'll ever do in my lifetime. Like all men, I do not know what tomorrow will bring, but I am certain of what it should bring. However, the latter certainty is morphing to uncertainties right before my eyes. I believe that we can all see it, but we just deny it. Or perhaps, nobody cares-as long as it doesn't seal off our kiosks at the hustling avenue. How many of such incident do we need to become the human we are meant to be?

This piece may be offensive. Both virtual and live friends may be offended because I've caught many in this habit on several occasions- prioritising the dictates of religion at the expense of common sense. For those who can stomach the reality beyond the shallow teachings of inimical religious doctrines, it is good. For those who can't, do yourself good by unfriending and blocking me. I cannot change on this philosophy, because I have no choice on the voice of my conscience. The first comment that drew my attention was that of a Muslim who wrote that 'Shiites are not true Muslims and that they deserved the killing'. Wait! It used to be a divide between Muslims and Christians, but now our house is divided against itself, and guess what? You and I, irrespective of where we stand, shall sink if nothing is done.

Before now, I used to think that the insanity of doctrinal differences is peculiar to Christians- Methodist against Redeem, Deeper life against Celestial, Anglican against Catholic, Baptist against Seventh day Adventist etc. It is a shame, that for the sake of robust tithes and personal aggrandisement, our churches can go as far as striking unhealthy balances. Years back, it was the impossibility of marriage between a Muslim and a Christian, today, it has grown worse- things cannot work between a member of Deeper life and and a member of Rhema. Religion is bigger than love and conviction! So, all of a sudden, Muslims are against Muslims too based on doctrinal differences. We are in trouble! The blood of a Redeem member is only precious to another Redeem member and the life of a Shiite Muslim is worthless in the eyes of a non-Shiite Muslim. Do we still hold that God decreed this?

Poor leadership has been identified as the cause of our national troubles, but do you pay attention to your Pastors and Imams? They are leaders too. Do you apply common sense to what you hear from them at all? I mean that when an Imam tells you to vote for a Muslim at the expense of a competent Christian, do you ever pause to remind him that the affairs of Nigeria or your state is not a religious affair? A Church or Mosque by their supposed 'original' nature should be a place for the weak, the poor and people who are sincerely sober to seek peace with God and then men, now it is not. Your pastors come with security personnel and you can't even have access to your chief Imam. I have no issue with that, but it is becoming terrible that their teachings are enslaving common sense and birthing madness. It is even alarming that the madness is more dominant among the youths.

To hell with religion! To hell with a religion that decrees that you attend church or mosque and leave a sick person at home. Damn a religion that teaches us our neighbours are doomed for hell because they are not in our line. Damn a religion that tells us to ignore competence and choose based on religious affiliations. Damn a religion that places the words of their books ahead of the good of humanity. Damn keepers of faith and religion that buy jets on the accumulation of the widow's mite, while the widow's mattress remains bug-ridden. Damn your church for building universities that its members cannot afford. Damn your Imam for telling you the greatest thing that will happen to any man is being a Muslim. No, it is not- the greatest is being a human who will never lose his humane part regardless of any diversity on the part of the other person. Damn those who take your tithe and lie to you that your gain is in heaven. No, your gain starts here. It is like this: the hungry man you feed is a gain for you, the naked soul you clothe is a gain, it is a reward for you when you open your door for the homeless. I won't pay my tithe to watch my pastor grow fat while I manage to kill the humanity in me by ignoring the hunger written on this lad's face. My tithe goes to the poor, the old, the jobless and the sick. I choose to ignore that imaginative heaven created by the greed of your pastors and Imams. My heaven is in using my youthful strength to wrestle a space in the bus for an old man who is headed for his house, not to wrestle a place from him to make a crusade or a 'Tajud'.

If you can walk by one or two masjids and not stop by to pray because you've not gotten to your masjid, you are part of this problem. If you can turn deaf ears to sermon in other churches and not drop by to worship because you've not gotten to your church, you are a threat. If there is heaven, it is not the type that your pastors and Imams create in your subconscious mind- heaven is not meant for Christians, it meant for humans who do not turn deaf ears to the cry of the needy. Al-Janah is not an exclusive abode of pious Muslims, it is meant for people whose conscience were not sold out at the expense of truth. If there is hell, it is meant for the types of Christians who abhor Muslims and other Christians. It is meant for Pastors whose jets can be used for Ministry while church members languish in hunger. If there is hell, it is for Muslims who support the killing of Shiites. It is for Muslims who are nonchalant about the plight of non-Muslims. It is for a Muslim who is 'proud to be a Muslim, rather than being a humane human'. Our first move to curb this menace will be to break loose of the shackles of outrageous religious principles. We should realize that marriage is for love and not religion. That we are here not to worship a Pastor or Imam all in the name of God. That humanity comes first before religion, and that injustice to a Muslim is injustice to everybody.

I have an idea of what the current set of keepers of faith and religion portray heaven to be- a place for regular tithe payers, a place for dogmatic Christians and Muslims who are fanatics, a place for the rich men who would ignore the leaking roof of their poor neighbours and donate millions to the Church. Yes, heaven to them is a place for looters who can share his loots with the Church or Mosque even when the masses live in penury. The whole idea of heaven has been reconfigured to mean a place meant for people who will still give out cars to a religious leader who has enough already. Heaven is for those who can memorise all the verses of the Bible or Quran, even when they can't commit basic principles of kindness to heart. Heaven is meant for the ones who can spend hours in the Church or Mosque, but still go out to join in lynching a thief. That is your heaven! But I am certain, I won't just make your heaven, because I am not a qualified candidate of your heaven.
LiteratureKnow This Popular Story And The Lesson by Hidentity(op): 9:23pm On Dec 15, 2015
Sent this to a friend who didn't know the story:

The Tortoise and the Monkey were great friends in the animal Kingdom. The Tortoise, as was typical of him was a garrulous individual who could talk all day, on the contrary the Monkey was extremely reserved- a laconic individual who would say little or nothing.

For Tortoise, being a talkative was not sufficient, he felt that all his rants, gossips, interjections, allusions and unnecessary remarks should be honoured by anyone around, but the Monkey was not in for that. One day, while the duo were having a walk down their farm to check crops, the Tortoise did interject for no reason by saying this: Òrò tí a ò mo owó, tí a ò mo esè kò níí jé tiwa ò (a matter on which we are totally innocent shall not turn against us/put us in trouble). Since the prayer was of no relevance to a present circumstance, an event or an encounter, the Monkey ignored Tortoise's usual habit and made no comment on it. Tortoise was aggrieved!

Tortoise got home, he couldn't sleep. He lied on his frayed rattan bed counting the contours of his rusty roofing sheets. To him, ignoring his prayer or his supposed words of wisdom was an affront, and anyone guilty of such should be punished. He came up with an idea to make Monkey, his friend pay for that singular act of not saying 'Amen' to that unnecessary prayer.

So, in the morning, Tortoise set for the palace of Lion-the King who also doubled as the warlord with a bag of bean cakes rubbed with honey (akara to fi oyin si lara). He paid obeisance and told the King who was also the warlord that he has come to offer him the best meal the world in the world. Salivating, the Lion couldn't wait to have the said meal and Tortoise wasted no time in setting a table before the King and served him. Apparently, it was a meal like no other- delicious, irresistible and also demanded asking for more.

When the Lion was done with the balls, he asked to be taught how to make such. That was an avenue for Tortoise to reel out his very sinister agenda for his friend's 'wrong' of ignoring his comment/prayer. With an aura of confidence adorned with hidden agendum, the Tortoise replied: your majesty, I didn't make this, one of your subjects passed those balls out as faeces on a platter of gold. Amused, or perhaps, amazed, the Lion rose from his stool and sought to know whose faeces could be that sweet, edible and worth taking again. The Tortoise replied that the faeces were Monkey's. When asked how to get such, the Tortoise informed the King that his friend, Monkey should be invited to the palace and asked to produce same. If he can't, he should be hit on the stomach continuously till he is able to produce sweet faeces.

The King ordered that the Monkey appear before him, the Monkey obliged and the King demanded for his faeces. Dazed and confused, but had to give it to the King. The king tasted it and it was so inedible, sour and different from what he ate yesterday. He remembered Tortoise's word and pulled down his royal regalia, he asked that the Monkey be hung by his two arms on a pole and with all his might, he started hitting the Monkey with his clenched fist and clubs as the Lion chanted: ya igbe didun (excrete sweet faeces). Yes, the pain, trauma, agony and all made Monkey produced all form of faeces: solid, watery, hot, cold, dark, light etc, but none was like the honeyed bean cakes.

The Monkey was left alone when he went into coma. He woke 23 days later and the first person to call at his home was his 'friend', Tortoise. The Monkey was pale, weak, frail and dying- to say a word was as hard as expecting a totally deaf man to listen to a news item and give one the breakdown. Tortoise looked at him critically, and the only word Tortoise can say was his initial prayer: Òrò tí a ò mo owó, tí a ò mo esè kò níí jé tiwa ò (a matter on which we are totally innocent shall not turn against us/ put us in trouble). With the last of his strength and without letting a second pass by, the monkey replied: AMIN O!!!

Obviously, he paid for what he had no idea of and circumstance has been reputed to change people more than sermon has.

Moral of the story? Pay attention to LITTLE details.

So much for an already 'rich' lady. Oh, sorry, did I just address you as a 'lady'? No, I mean a person. Ladies are classy, of higher finesse, cultured, thorough breeding and civil. On this post, you've displayed none of those.

Well, you have no fault, Nairaland has offered you a shoulder to leverage on. It is a refrain from a broken gramophone record that peddles the untrue to remain relevant, no one believes her (Viviangist) except his co-traveller (Seun or whichever mod is on your matter) with a predetermined agenda. So, enjoy the moment here while it lasts- make the noise, the same people you insult here will make the news you will scramble to post one day- for good, of course. Peace, girl.

Amen to the prayers. But it is crude and insensitive to place a curse on her killer beside a message praying for her. I mean didn't you think about it? Praying for a late loved one and cursing someone at the same time.
Nairaland GeneralDon't Say There Is God, Do Something! by Hidentity(op):
The person that came up with the notorious mantra 'there is God' for those oppressed by fellow men deserves to answer a case before the Court of men, and then, the Court of God for dignifying impunity. Whatever his reason was, he has succeeded in leaving unsuspecting victims of oppression helpless, even where several options abound to forestall or remedy the injustice. For those in the habit of saying 'there is God' when oppressed, I think that it is a tacit, but ignorant way of saying that God's existence is debatable. Who goes about saying 'it is raining' when everybody could feel it? I mean why? Why must you remind yourself that He exists to cushion the effect of pains you can avoid? He gave you the brain to consult. Why? Why must you volunteer to be battered, oppressed, cheated and raped, yet all you can say is that 'there is God!'

I don't know if this is a pain cushioning syndrome that is Nigeria based or African, I only know that it is one that has let evil prevail on many occasions. See, leave God alone sometimes, use your brain! Don't embarrass God- even Him, wants you to react to some things and not cry His name for all your woes. Yes, there is God, but once in a while, do what you would have done if there is no God!

Earlier this year, in one of my opinion articles, I did identify that the problems facing average Nigerians can be reduced by say 70% if we, the commoners can learn to be fair to ourselves. Ignore the government and those beautiful expectations, play your part and be fair in dealings. You may not end up having a property at the Crescent avenue, but you will most likely not be disappointed in life. But no, among us are the professional thieves and oppressors- they abound- among teachers, doctors, engineers, lawyers, students, traders, journalists, bricklayers, tailors, keepers of faith and religions, carpenters, and even you. We are the silent terrorists who like to point at the the pronounced terrorists. Now, let me justify my rant...

A couple of days back, at the end of my CDS Meeting, I volunteered to follow a sick friend to a diagnostic centre. He was weak, and he needed a hand. We flagged down a bike and told him our destination. From his face, I saw deceit well written- in French, Igbo, Hausa, Chinese, Yoruba, Efik, Russian, Italian, English and all other languages of the world. I hate to be preemptive, so I will give this bike man the benefit of doubt. 'Your money na #250', he said after Fred and I apparently didn't hide the fact that we did not know the place. I interjected that #250 is much: practically, there is no where in that state capital that should warrant paying #250 for transportation at a go. He was so convincing that we felt we were going interstate. He told us how the place was far and then asked 'Shey you be Yoruba?' Fred replied No, and because the devil was ready to have a dinner with him, he took Fred's answer as applicable to us both.

We sat and in less than 1 minute into the journey, he stopped and beckoned on another bike man. In his words 'awon eleyi o mo Diagnostic centre, nibo ni kin gbe won gba, emi n wa owo' (these ones do not know the diagnostic centre, which route should I follow, I need money) At that point, I knew the gimmick. I was once a victim in Ilorin- a victim of the average man's brutality to another average man, and I fell flat. This time, I was a victim again, but I was happy that it would be a different show. The other man looked into his eyes, I saw the smile they both struggled to fight and I knew we were just about to be played. Practically, I burst out laughing- I knew there was God, but I didn't want to involve him in this very simple issue. I gat this! That one told him to take a route and yes, we went again, after about 7 minutes of moving, we were back at where we flagged down the bike, and again, I burst out laughing. From that spot to the diagnostic centre, it was less than 2 minutes! He knew, he wanted money, our ignorance was a deficiency, and he has banked on it.

We got down, Fred, my Kogi friend was disappointed. In that his weak state, he lamented that the man was unfair and that what did he intend to achieve from such act? I was watching- I wasn't planning to leave him to God-God himself has given him to me that day and I needed Fred to be done before I deal with him as the spirit was directing. He was looking all guilty, a man probably in his late thirties who was coherent in speech minutes back started blabbing and blinking like someone in the Kalahari desert during a windstorm. Fred paid him his #250 and I walked close and stood right in front of his motorcycle. 'You are a terrorist Sir, you're also a self-employed thief and you're dangerous for the society. You should be held somewhere. It is safer to leave wild animals in the children's playing ground than to leave you riding motorcycle around'. The ideal amount we should pay for the transportation fare if he had not made that dubious move is between #80 to #100. You know, it was a nice scene because once people see you in NYSC khaki and you are making a scene, everything becomes interesting. People started gathering in twos and threes. I admonished him, but for every word of admonishment, there were laden some words meant for shameless and pathetic individuals of his type. He knew what he did and he knew he had done it for the wrong person. Those around asked me what he did and after narrating to them, he was tongue lashed by both the old and the young. Then from the 'crowd' came a tiny voice, 'leave him, there is God'. But this day, those gathered around us would have none of that, 'Goooduu wo? Shey Goodu ni ka ma fi ara mo iwa buruku ni. Goodu gan sope ka ma jale) (which God, Did God ask us to embrace and attitudes from people? Even God asked us not to steal), one old man interjected. I then left him to the insulting gazes of those around.

When you see a thief, call him a thief, never allow him go because 'there is God'. If you're oppressed, fight for your right, you don't have to be violent to deal with certain situations, but just don't say 'there is God'. If you trust the cop, call them for your oppressor. You have a husband who batters you, ditch him now! There is God, but He created you as a woman not a punching bag. If you believe in the Court, sue somebody today. If you believe in the media like Femi Owolabi, publish your plight and the particulars of the oppressors for people to read. Leave God, He has files before him- Syria's file, the Chibok's file, Egypt's file, Libya's file, Democratic republic of Congo, Somalia's file, Sudan's file, South Sudan's file, Mali's file, ISIS file, Book Haram's file etc. Yes, He is not complaining, but I am on His behalf. The person oppressing you knows that there is God, why must you say it again? God gave you your brain so that you don't place every file before him. And I know that there is God, but what if there is no God? Do something drastic, but reasonable, biko!
Nairaland GeneralOlamide, his track and Your Lesson by Hidentity(op):
Yes, it is him- Olamide Baddo.
The 'holy' ones among us should pardon me for this. At least, we've been taught while growing up that some songs are of the 'world' and we should steer clear as sons and daughters of God. We wanted to listen back then, but somehow, we were able to sieve situation and identify positivity where the bandwagon thinks that none can ever exist. After all, they never thought that something good could come from Nazareth, but the rest is history. Praise the Lord somebody.

In my lucid period, Olamide's songs don't come in handy. When he sang 'Illegal', 'Falila ketan' and the host of other lyrical noises packaged by wicked producers like young John, Olamide himself didn't expect it to be an option for a man in his right senses. To boogie to such or reflect on it, you must have been motivated by shots upon shots of Orijin, Magic moment, Bullet or whatever is the alcoholic rave of the moment. For teetotalers who dig those songs, it could only have been induced by social craziness. On this, I am guilty as charged too. So, let us move on.

Last night, I was at a joint where Olamide's track titled '1999' was played. Somehow, I gave Mr. Baddo the benefit of doubt by listening to the lyrics carefully, and interestingly, this time, Maximiliano's dad did say novel things. In the track, he recounted a tragic event in 1999- robbers stormed his house and in the process of the operation, young Olamide witnessed his dad shot by the robbers. Guess what? That was all! According to Olamide, that point birthed his determination to excel in life through legal hustle.

After that track, I picked my phone and started digging for news item. Incidentally, the first news item I saw was a man arrested for fraud. In the suspect's words, he was frustrated because he lost his job, and then, he took to impersonating people to dupe unsuspecting individuals of their hard-earned resources.

Readers, whatever opinion we hold of Olamide does not matter here. What matters is the decision he took following the robbery. That should be a model for all of us, regardless of our belief in 'worldly' or 'heavenly' songs. Here, Pastors should learn from Baddo, Imams should learn from Olamide, Political leaders should take a hint from the brain behind Shakiti bobo. Our fathers and mothers should too, all of us! Everyday, news fly about in print and online media of suicide, sexual offences, robbery, ritual and other vices. In recent times, youths between age 18 to 36 have been caught in the web of varying criminal acts. One thing is common, they have excuses that sound a lot like: my parents couldn't cater for me, my business crumbled and I was frustrated, my parents are late, I came from a poor home, it is the devil, he committed suicide because he failed an exam, I don't have a job and my friends introduced me to robbery etc, etc.

To my consternation, Olamide was just 10 in 1999! What is your excuse if a boy of 10 years could take a positive hint from such tragic event? In his word 'armed robbers shot my dad, and then I realized it is time to organise myself.' Men are not created to be at the mercy of circumstances, we have all it takes to control circumstances. One's thought and determination are two key elements that must be watched. A robber does not need half of the energy he would exert in robbery to thrive in a legal business, let alone the risk rate.

You have an extra year? Don't give in! Don't become a part of an illegal syndicate because you feel the right route is long. You're not an animal, do not rape and put the blame on the devil that is only our imaginary creation. If you have a boss who doesn't treat you right, don't contract killers to take him out or cart his properties away, his wrong attitudes shouldn't take away the fact that you can control situations positively. Mothers and fathers, do not cheat because your partners do- using the excuse of your partner's infidelity to cheat is disgraceful.

Certain principles expected to be held by everyman should not be limited by challenges. Our determination to be what every ideal man should be irrespective of challenges should be skin deep, no external influence should be toxic enough to change who we are as humans. We would not only be dangerous to the world, but ourselves. Your positive mindset should not be fleeting- be positive because you should be and not because a favourable situation is before you. Your fidelity, humility, kindness and other virtues shouldn't be dependent on anyone's virtues. You must be whatever you are because that is what makes you You. And yes, like Baddo, you must not be broken by negative events. Rather, pick yourself and follow a legal path with the lesson.

Olamide hit this, and I'll tell him when we see.

Draws curtain with Olamide's 1999 track.

Nairaland GeneralYes, Your Social Media Pages Will Kill You by Hidentity(op):
Here is a caveat: I set to strike a rod against the mud, all those around might have a share of stain on their outfits. Also, this piece is not for everybody, it is basically targeted at the youths who are most likely to be victims of the karma law. As a matter of fact, writing on this didn't interest me and I have tried bottling up the urge for months, but like the Nigerian pastors will say 'this is for someone out there tonight'.

A few months back, while jumping from one job interview to another, I became privy to certain revelations which I think that I should share with readers. Before I proceeded to NYSC camp, I took out a month for a break from my former firm to relax. Incidentally, I found myself writing exams and going for job interviews at different firms as the replies of my several applications keyed into that time. I had something in mind in all job examinations and interviews I went for- to give them a run for their monies. I didn't and still don't want any job at all cost. As a matter of fact, I can say that I had up to two or three interviews I attended for the fun of it. Yes, there was a particular firm in Lagos that needed the applicants to be present at their morning devotion that day before the interview would commence, I left the firm and headed for a canteen close by. When I turned up for the interview later, it was not hard for them to realize that I didn't attend the devotion and when I was questioned, I told them that the same way I won't allow my personal interest to affect their job if I get it, I won't allow their morning devotion to affect my meal time.

To the issue, I wrote an exam at another Lagos firm. To me, it wasn't surprising that the four papers that carried 20 questions each did not have a single law question. Yes, it was a law firm, but the word 'law' did not even appear once in the papers. Like the experience at Aelex, it wasn't funny, even with the AC, I saw colleagues sweating. Fifteen days after, I got a mail notifying me that I was qualified for the interview stage. I went through provisions of the law and updated myself on global issues before I shut my eyes that night.

On the D day, I was given a tag that carried the number '8', We were 10 that day and it took each applicants 20 to 30 minutes in that den. We were all led to the conference room where we sat and then we were called one after the other to enter the den and face our fears. After each interview, you would see the applicant interviewed heading for the lift, you can't even get to talk to them because they were not allowed to come back to the conference room, but the looks on their faces were not the type the son of man would wish for. Soon enough, it was my turn, I stood up and headed for the den, but I didn't know why my bladder suddenly got filled up. It wasn't so before I was called, but now it was, yet it was too late. The moment I entered the 'den', the lady among the interviewers threw the first question, 'what date did you write your exam here?' I couldn't even remember. But then, maybe my service in the Sunday school as a kid paid off, I pretended like I didn't hear her as I forced a smile and sat.

'What can you say about Abusgar?' I wasn't sure I heard that right. However, she repeated 'what can you say about BabaAhmed Abusgar? Sincerely, I was shocked to the core. I didn't know the relevance of Abusgar there and everything seemed wrong to me. I told them he is a friend and I respect his submissions. 'We went through your Facebook wall and your posts, we looked at how you react to criticisms and issues that interest you, we find Abusgar's comments quite great, but you didn't agree with him on most occasions'. I sat there thinking about the things I posted- the mischief accounts as a student, the trouble I made at UBA, my business at the love lane etc. 'Are you shocked?' The question brought me back. I replied in the affirmative. 'Well, we do not bank on applicant's academic credentials, their performances in our exams and interviews alone. We need to access them in places where they think they have the liberty to do and undo and that is where we believe their true personalities lie...' In fact, these people addressed over five of my articles.

Friends, there is nothing that you have posted that anybody cannot post, but I think that it is high time we started to be a check on our actions on the social media. Don't be so silly to make the social media your comfort zone to insult people, post nude or almost nude pictures. Don't come here telling us all those craps about your boyfriend or girlfriend. Don't come here to embarrass yourself by asking people to donate for your birthday. Don't come here on weekends to ask guys if they are interested in taking you out. Don't post the picture of the bottle of alcohol you drank last night here. Don't just post anything- think about the message it will send and its substance. Corporate bodies know that we are mad on the social media and they are sneaking there. Well, you can continue turning your buttocks to the camera and posting it as long as you think that you won't find yourself in my shoes one day and karma won't come calling. See, you may post or tweet everyday if you have something worthwhile to type, but shut up and calm down on senseless posts and pictures. Keep grabbing the zip part of your trousers as a pose and post it on the social media. Continue calling ladies 'bitches' and guys 'assholes', one day, your social media pages will kill you, and you know what? You will die. But hey, mine didn't kill me and I am glad that I was commended.

I think that the time has come when everybody will realize that political offices or appointments do not equate business ventures where you are all about personal gains. However, I do not understand why the hawk catches the straying chicks and drops them back. What do I mean? We only enjoy the commencement of the show, our interest will soon die down when the so called EFCC starts to show little or no interest in following the case to a reasonable conclusion. But as usual, I blame the youths- why our equals in other parts of the world inherit sane states and legacies, we are all about struggling for crumbs off politician's tables, wasting on bottles of vodka and hitting every club at the expense of our dreams. We enjoy Arsenal and Manchester United's match, but the match that will shape our lives for good- the match of building Nigeria, demanding accountability and making ourselves ready for the task is left to suffer.

LiteratureAlabi Returns by Hidentity(op):
The cuckoo birds chant solemnly as the tender breeze massage the ego of the baby trees. The sky takes the position it is reputed for from time immemorial, but there was a departure from its typical outlook- today it takes a break from its usual white and blue attires, it seems to know what the two love birds under the bamboo tree do not know- the fate that the other side will birth with time. On the rock under the bamboo tree kneels Alabi saying words of consolation to the sitting and sobbing Asake. Today is different, their hide and seek has never witnessed the railway, but it is a different day- Alabi is set for the city to buy them the life they deserve, maybe not the one they need, but they want it.

Alabi is the son of Ladele, the industrious blacksmith who would do anything to see that Alabi's name doesn't make the list of disappointment sojourners in this world of shift. It is because of him that Alabi is at the train station today. Asake is not an exception to the efforts that sees Alabi furthering his studies in the city of Lagos. Her life savings has been diverted to this cause. Trust is not an issue, Alabi's strength of character is impressive among his peers in the village. Academically, he is some sort of village genius. The train fare is the savings from his intellectual labour of writing letters for the elders and his illiterate peers in the village. Alabi and Asake's love story should be close to 5 years, though a stark illiterate, Asake is ready to give in on every fragment of dream she has to see Alabi in the 'coat' Rev. Richard, the white man wore to the village last year.

The honking of the train echoes through the assembly of trees as the birds scamper off in contagious dismay. That moment for Asake equals an attempt by God to take away from her everything she has. Alabi is that integral to Asake's very existence- a friend, a lover, a teacher, a brother and a whole lot that the pen may get sick of listing out. The train appears on the railway from the bent that went towards the stream. Alabi stands on his feet and lifts Asake who burst out crying uncontrollably. She holds unto Alabi's heavily patched attire as he struggles to hide the visitation of tears on his face by facing the now stopping train. 'Alabi, we can be happy here; you can keep helping baba in the blacksmith business. You will teach me the white's man language and we can both speak it and laugh. I promise you, my brain will pick the addition of large figures it has not picked all this while and you won't be bored of being the only literate here', Asake begs in a shaky voice corroborated by teary eyes... The choice is no longer Alabi's- the scholar from the city appears from the lonely road and interjects 'Alabi, a great conflagration of my fury can engulf the territorial edifice of your cupid induced affair if thou refuses an immediate solemn step into this locomotive structure with me.' Alabi, holds Asake's wrist as he gently pulls it off his attire. A loud honk emerges from the train as Alabi walks towards the stern looking city scholar who is to take him to the city... The train gradually disappears from the scene as Asake runs by its side with the likely impossibility of stopping his lover from the city pursuit. He stands by the window crying like a baby as the movement of the train makes him lose her sight...

She is grinding pepper for lunch when Dansaki, Alabi's childhood friend who has religiously played his role as an assistant boyfriend appears to her beaming with smile. 'Asake, you will pardon my memory,' he said as he brought out a folded paper from his pocket. He continued, 'Here is a letter Alabi sent through Emeka, the Igbo boy who went to Lagos last year, I forgot.' She jumps up, cleans her hands with her wrapper and hastily, she opens the paper. She does not have an idea of what the letters are, let alone the word, but she beams with smile as she watches Dansaki walks away. Dansaki has been a shoulder for her- he has played his role as Alabi's friend for 3 years since Alabi's departure.

Majority of the villagers stood at the railway station expecting the arrival of the train. Though Alabi was meant to study for 6 years in the city, but they got a note from the college in the city that their boy will arrive that day. The message might not have been well passed by the man who interpreted the content of the letter to the eager villagers last night. He was able to make them realize that the letter talked about Alabi's arrival, but the purpose was expressed in a grammar beyond his dexterity in interpretation.

After hours of waiting at the train station, the train turns up from a distance and the entire villagers beam with smiles of hope. Asake was restless- with her hand, she wipes the sweat on her face off and faces Dansaki, 'will Alabi still remember my face?' Dansaki smiles and holds her by the hand as they approach the train. They saw no one near Alabi in appearance. The two of them and other villagers approach a man who is apparently a staffer in the train. After their complaint was laid, there was a substituted look on his face as he took a puff from his pipe, 'Here is him, he will be the last to be helped down'. The villagers peep at the compartment beside the man, there is Alabi's comatose body shrouded in white as he is laid in the coffin with his eyes shut to the mundane things of this world. He has come home after graduating from the institution of life.

Is it really greener on the other side?

LiteratureLetter To My Unborn Child '2015' by Hidentity(op):
Dear Child,

Inner persons, it is four years today that the idea of writing you struck me. Since then, it has become a yearly practice to make out time to address you. One thing is certain- there are a thousand and one letters of this kind flying around the cyberspace. However, beyond the letters of this literal culture, you and I know that this pursuit is one with sincerity of purpose, an expression of events and the conviction that you are aware of this. You know me, I am no believer in fairy tales, but I hear your voices in my head every time. Little ones, easy on me, you are not rushing down here- there is time for everything. I'll play my role in making your arrival worthwhile. We have enough babies made by mistakes in our world, you cannot afford to be one. True, the pace may be slow, but I am moving- it hasn't worked out yet, but you know that I am strong-willed. Senior one, call your siblings, father is here again.

There is a major development now child, I am now a certified legal professional. Hey, take it easy on that celebratory clatter- being a lawyer is just a means to the end. What life demands from us all is beyond the professional callings. On your choice of career, I suspect that you or one of your siblings may be moved to opt for legal profession because of me. Please do not, it is a trap. We have a lot of them around- lawyers that were made out of compulsion, accident, shallow reasons and the selfish interests of their parents to pride in the fact that their children are members of this noble family. See, I have met more than enough of them heaving under epic burden of frustration as a result of that decision. Some are doing quite well, but for the others, a mere confrontation with the reality has shown them that they got it wrong the day they choose this profession on a shallow basis- they have left their essence and purpose in the waste bin in a bid to live the life of another. Where the same challenges made those of us who took that path because of passion refill our pouch of determination, they are left retreating as fast as they can. So, come here to live your life: a new one devoid of wrong influences. It is okay to be a lawyer as long as you have the passion.

Child, beware of those boyfriends and girlfriends walking the boulevards. Most pairs are so empty that one can't even imagine the degree. Right, they all look good outside and filled with values, but it is just the facade of a balloon: balloon looks pregnant but when pressure makes it burst, nought is revealed. Son, most of these girlfriends have nothing to offer except sex, it is a bitter truth that I even find hard to express, but review your relationship with them every few months, if sex doesn't take you some inches close to your goals, wear your shoes. Daughter, see those boyfriends, most can't afford what it takes to make you better. Yes, it is not bad to accept his gifts and pass time together, but is he worth it? If he can buy you ice cream and expensive things and you are still mentally stagnant, run for he is the real poor guy, not the determined boy who can't afford you a cup of ice cream at the moment. Child, kisses and cuddles are not prohibited in my dictionary, but know that you can't stop at just that with some people. Way out? Give it to the right person and you won't regret it. To know the right one is both intuitional and emotional, but do not let this knowledge show via your sleeves- men are deft at beating that.

Child, in choosing him or her, it is not sufficient to go for one thing. There are issues in a relationship that beauty will address, intelligence addresses some, a sense of humour solves some, patience deals with some, honesty is key too and friendship does sometimes. So, if you opt for just intelligence, what will happen when a problem that beauty should address turns up? I recommend an intelligent person with whom you can be proud to hold converse. I will also like you to consider beauty to an extent. He or she must be honest enough to say No to subsequent seeming better offer after yours is successful. That way, you're not likely to die of heart attack. Child, by a way of obiter, did you notice what the wrong understanding of religion has done to us as a people? I am afraid that with our type of mindsets, religions will make this world worse than anyone can imagine. Listen to me, in the process of your formation, you will become a human before you become further distinguished by ethnic group and then the religion you will come to meet us practising. Note that being human comes first, never let religion or ethnicity cloud your passion to strive for the betterment of humanity.

Child, I can say that I have met your potential mother. A charismatic lady at that. Here is it, she taught me the difference between the typical girlfriend and a lady. I stopped having a girlfriend like my peers the day I won her. Without her knowing, your potential mother made me realize that boys have girlfriends and girls have boyfriends, but males of class go for ladies, while ladies opt for men. I can assure you that you will see beyond a lover in a lady like I see in her- she will be your best friend, your number one fan, chief critic, business partner, co-strategist, motivation, inspiration, a royal pain in your ass and a lot that most of these common girlfriends and boyfriends can ever offer in this life or their next. That is the spirit child, go for thinkers. I pray that God will show you the ONE, but it is your duty to keep her just like I intend to do to your potential mother. Child, steer clear of abusive relationships. It is not just about him beating you up or playing you. It extends to you going out of your way to buy her gifts, seeing no way with her and insisting there is way. It extends to a partner who does not see you or your opinion as relevant. Your love must not be blind to fundamental faults, but you can ignore the trivial ones.

Child, do not flaunt your achievements on the social media or anywhere. That is the hallmark of people with a sense of insecurity and those struggling to stay relevant. With your achievements, you can teach people that they can do it, but don't go the way of the average boys and girls in my generation. If flaunting interests your neighbour, live and let him live, but note this: he will only make a noise while you make the news. Remember, do not ever let temporal people or things come between you, your dreams and your loved ones. They will go, but the regret is usually a stubborn one, it will last a life time. On education, I will like you to be schooled, but more importantly is what your knowledge will make of you and what you will make of it. Child, as for me, knowledge is not power, the right application of knowledge is power. So, if engineering is what you are vast at, sell your inventions but do not trade your conscience in the process. And don't be like me, attend class religiously- i was a renowned truant at a point. But know that what attracts success is not limited to the four walls of the classroom. In fact, the things I learnt outside class on my own are those paving way for me to apply the things I learnt in class. Be vast in the content of books, be deft at dealing on the street, be a scholar in the management of men and yes, pray, for you'll likely not stray.

If you realise that you're taking life too serious, please attend a funeral- advisably that of a Muslim, the sight should make for a perfect sermon. Learn the beauty in music, a good sleep, a reflective stroll and friendship. If you're running out of wisdom, have an intellectual excursion through the book of Proverbs.
Look, you will experience a broken heart at a stage in life, it is necessary to grow and understand some basic rules about life. I've had mine broken, I did to someone too- it is one of those instances where experience takes its role as a master. If you feel like crying, don't hold it, shed the tears and discharge the burden, but not the lesson.

Child, I will stop here with a mind full of hope that I am not denied the grace to write you the next. I have a lot to say, but the page is short of lines...

Just before you pick his name and insult his ethnic group, read this.

I think that I have observed this for quite a while and I think that it need be said.

I expressed my concern on why Nigerian youths remain leaders of tomorrow even till tomorrow to someone a few years back, and he suggested that I become a member of a few social media outfits. I did- Nairaland is one. He didn't say more, but I have seen more.

E-friends, it is easier to trap the water in an ocean in a glass cup than it is to see one reasonable comment on a page on Nairaland. Is it that hard to just ignore a topic if one has nothing intellectually benefiting or wise to say than insult the feelings of a tribe, religion or sex?

Look at it from here, a lot of unemployed youths are here lamenting and the story continues year in and out. If you were an employer, are you likely to take someone on a forum like this serious to conduct the affairs of your business or firm? These things matter, but it seems we either don't know or we just deny that we don't. There are people of incredible and distinguished personalities here, but with these comments fanning the embers of ethnic war, can youths like us be left with sensitive issues like nation building?

We can't lament that we are being sidelined when we lack the diplomatic tact and mental credential to make a simple remarkable comment. Insult me for this, I don't care- people take to insult when they are short of logic. But it is saddening that these e-children of ethnic war are thought to mirror the rest of us who are not in the bandwagon of victims of social, moral and intellectual decadence.

I expected that Seun or the mods would fashion out a way to halt this madness. The truth is that not paying attention to little details has led to several wars and disasters. If this trend of singling out an ethnic group as criminals, rapists or ritualists subsists, we all may not be able to tell the story of the consequences. We can choose our actions, but we cannot choose the consequences, why don't you just keep quiet or type something worthwhile?

I am a proud Yoruba and a Christain, but I know that in my formation process, I became human first before becoming a Yoruba or a Christian and as long as the next person is human, I should be fair to him. Why can't we just live and let live? The leaders of tomorrow are just more terrible than the ones of today.

If an Igbo person is caught for doing drugs, it is not because he is Igbo- it is because of the inherent criminal nature in every human which he didn't curb. If one Hausa man is caught for terrorism, it is not because Hausa people are terrorists, it is because of the inhumane part of every human he did not restrict. If a Yoruba man is caught for raping, it does not make Yoruba people rapists, it is because that particular Yoruba man failed to control the animal instinct in him. Committing crime is never an identity of any tribe or ethnic group because speaking English does not make one a Briton.

The future awaits us- we cannot succeed in giving it the best with the way we reason, comment and react here.

Thanks

Nairaland GeneralA Peep Into Mirabel Centre by Hidentity(op): 6:59pm On Sep 10, 2015
'...omo te n chase te lo n ka ina taina, epa #10 ni mo fi gba pata lowo e.'

That was a part of the vulgar lyrics that emanated from the stridency of unorganized sound in the vehicle. Like a simulated robot, she turned her head to the back and her gaze caught mine. The lyrics was her fear, but she was not alone, it was my worry too, but her subject of fear and the source of my worry was the recipe for their 'ginger'. Yes, they said that that part gingered them. I didn't bargain for this, I had opted for 'sole' not because I couldn't afford to board a bus at the regular park, but because of the need to catch up with my appointment in Ibadan and before that time too, i observed the lady in the front checking her wristwatch several times. 'Abeg put am for repeat, rap yen make sense', the guy beside me requested as he moved forth and back, the driver obliged him. Then again, the gibberish being spewed by the disappointed artiste struck the cords of their encephala more. She looked back again, now, with fear boldly inscribed on her face and questions that left her heart pounding. No one can be trusted by her, because the body languages of fellow passengers were either that of outright acceptance of the lyrics or indifference. How else do you want a lady to react in such a male dominated vehicle with such lyrics being celebrated by more than four male passengers? Right beside her in the front was another lady who already slept like 15 minutes into the journey.

Few days after that journey, I was sent a link by a friend. This time, she felt I should be in the know about the very pathetic stories of 9 years old Dami, 12 years old Habiba or the unending list of victims of sexual abuse undergoing rehabilitation at the Mirable Centre in Lagos. I read about the fistula Mercy developed from the attack. I also read about Mary falling victim of the choirmaster. For the first time I was convinced that some people deserve to be shot on sight. Then, why attempting to make a meagre donation, I was drawn to a part where Juliet, one of the ladies attending to victims mentioned that   she has submitted numerous proposals to help the victims but received no response. An insider information has it that most corporations do not want to be associated with a cause like rape survivors. "It is too sensitive," Juliet concludes, "and it may affect their bottom line". I went through that part again to be sure of what I read and none of my careful stares or attention changed the letters or their placing. For God sake, how many people will the girl child watch out for? Apparitions of men? Their own siblings, neighbours, teachers, keepers of faith and religion, friends, bosses, mentors, makers, interpreters, and executors of the law, etc. Every day, these juveniles pay for what they didn't bargain for, and our society still leaves them to grow with the trauma haunting them right before our very eyes. Isn't it disturbing that advocacy and donations abound on television screens, but a place as committed to the cause of rape victims as Mirabel Centre at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital cannot boast of three rooms for this cause?

I wonder what bottom line the Corporate organisations were talking about that would leave Mercy battling with fistula. I wonder the pride in stable electricity supply when dreams are dimmed daily by the animals among men whose dangling carrots are on a lethal loose. I wonder why being a girl child is fast becoming an offence. I wonder if the 'rape and beg' approach I overheard at the car park years back is not gaining ground. I wonder why despite Nike's bad hip and sickle cell disease, asking for a direction led to her being driven to a secluded area and raped. But then, I stopped wondering upon placing the tiles together. Can a sick society birth sane individuals? My mind went back to that inglorious lyrics about 'getting a girl to put off her panties just because of #10 groundnut.' That is the type of music selling fast in the moment. Mentally, some men are more fortunate than the others. These mentally less-fortunate men cannot detach themselves from the evil messages a lot of sick musicians are selling.

Just before getting raped becomes the trademark of every girl, lady or woman, there is a need to look into our social life, vis-a-vis the songs being churned out, especially by certain rap artistes whose inspirations lie in Marijuana. Obviously, this type of music is only a part of the many rape encouraging factors, but a reduction, maybe insignificant would be noticed if the songs that are sold to the public are well censored. Then, the philosophy that a #10 worth of groundnut can get a girl or lady to pull off her panties, whether literally or figuratively will no longer ginger any man. However, it won't be a bad idea to visit Mirabel Centre and encourage our sisters. I will, you should.

PoliticsPresident Buhari And His Test Of Integrity by Hidentity(op):
I never thought that I would write on President Buhari this soon. I believe in the power of time and what it can achieve for the longsuffering individuals who know that there is no overnight success. We cannot turn our heads and pretend that the business of nation building equals the instant reaction that follows taking a lit match stick close to a cylinder of gas- it takes time to build, destruction is the only thing that is fast in coming to being. However, to every general rule, there must be an exception, so the need to write. Patience is a virtue, silence is dignifying- only if they come to play when the circumstance demands.

For the record, readers who have followed my columns for the last three years must have noticed my hard knocks on the head of former President, Mr. Jonathan. In the month preceding his last in office, I wrote a piece with the most terrible title one can imagine about anyone to usher him to rest. I had called unprejudiced Nigerians to join me in feasting and celebrating the funeral of President Jonathan. I didn't make any public presumption whether he would be returned to Aso villa or Otu-Oke, I only had the conviction that his political death was long overdue and I buried him, after that, he got buried for real. Here is a revelation, if Mr. Jonathan presents himself at the poll next election with a convincing manifesto and I perceive that he has repented, I will cast my vote for him if my conviction shows that he is the best candidate. After all, Lazarus did wake after three days, Jonathan can do the same politically- just like President Buhari did after almost three decades. Most Nigerians did not cast their votes for President Buhari because they wanted him at the last poll, they did because they didn't want Jonathan- the enemy of our enemy became our friend. May we review our friend's test of integrity jointly?

To me, President Buhari started his role as a President when he made that popular remark- I belong to everybody, I belong to nobody. I needed to trust him and those words sealed that. Nonetheless, it was a troubling cerebration when it was revealed that the appointment of Ministers shall be determined in September. Personally, I perceived three months as dedicated to an unwarranted wait- even developed countries act with the conviction that a stitch in time saves nine, but then, I suspected that President Buhari had an ace up his sleeve. Sure, he does, but unfortunately, as reported by the press, his reason beats my imagination- he needed time to identify people of integrity. Lately, appointments have stumbled upon appointments, and this has left questions begging for answers. As for me, I have no issue with the appointments of Northeners basically, but then, that is me and ours is a nation of over 178 million people. So, should we hide under the guise of being politically informed and more enlightened than others to see their cries as mere rants?

Presently, Northeners have been appointed to occupy over seventy percent of the occupied offices. We may adopt logic to say that credibility shouldn't be sacrificed for necessity- as long as they will perform, let it be so. But why must the beat and song change now? Nigerians supported the candidacy of President Buhari beyond the lenses of region, religion and ethnicity- we believed that Nigeria is not a religion enterprise, an ethnic entity or a regional kiosk that must be left at the control of selected ones from a 'clan'. That paid off- Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Efik, Ijaw, Nupe, Tifi, Ibiobio etc, etc were for President Buhari at the polls, how come that is not reflecting in the appointments so far? In the words of the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, he did admit that the appointments are not yet balanced. We may wait with ripples of hope that ministerial appointments will justify the balance we clamour for, however, is it not necessary to reason with those who feel that the most sensitive offices are being given to our brothers and sisters from the North? While sheer ignorance or bitterness might have made many include the offices of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, President of the Court of Appeal and Chief Justice of the Federal High Court in the list of the perceived sentiment in appointment, it should be noted that the most senior members in the Courts are constitutionally entitled to be the heads of the Court. So, it is no exclusive preserve of Mr. President.

During campaigns and interviews, President Buhari has stated that he is a converted democrat, and that he abhors corruption and nepotism, supporters have made an excuse of integrity in choice for him. At this point, it gets more baffling how seven to eight slots in every ten will go to a side and the others will scramble for two to three. The test of integrity in a reasonable man's test does not seek to search for an angel within men, its purpose is to identify the one who can still manage to stand tall while temptations and challenges force others to bow. President Buhari does not appear to be in the know of this- his test of integrity is strict, alien and seems to make individuals pass through the ethnic furnace- if President Buhari were God and his test holds way on the last day- we will all rot in hell. Nigerians are beginning to feel the same way President Buhari felt when he lost at the polls three times- that we are misguided by ethnicity, religion and beliefs. Hence, we didn't consider his credibility and the interest of the nation. Now that we did in May, do we deserve to be paid in our own coin?

Yes, integrity matters. I also hold that the task ahead requires credible individual whose selfish interest cannot override our collective one, but integrity and credibility are not genetic factors in one ethnic group or people- Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and others have it. It is not hard to figure that out, especially when one is in a status where a snap of finger would make things happen. President Buhari should know that Nigeria is not Katsina, Lagos, Enugu or Rivers, Nigeria is a nation whose success is not destined to come by the coming together of one ethnic group to make things happen. There are diversities, but it takes a good leader to exploit that to achieve unity and catapult us to fulfilment. At the last poll, we forsook a likely impossibility for an unconvincing possibility, we live with the hope of our choice proving its mettle. Mr. President, I made out this piece with the conviction that you did not forget your pledge- you are for everybody and you are for nobody.
Nairaland GeneralThe Broke Gentlemen by Hidentity(op): 8:19am On Aug 25, 2015
Life seems to have a secret if one must be fulfilled- live the way you are! If you are rich, spend the money, but do not create an avenue for the poor to feel they are assistant humans. If you are broke, savour the moment- smile, hope, dream, work but all in all live according to your pocket- do not be caught at the mercy of creditors. If you are healthy, dance, laugh, sing, say something and do something, but do not let the sick see your living as a mockery. If you are sick, whisper a prayer, tell the bed you will rise, do not wish the healthy ones are like you. Life is like a round ball chased by a team of players- it will show them different sides at a time, but be sure, a player who doesn't get sent off due to an unruly attitude will end up not only seeing the ball from all sides, he will feel it on all sides too. But if you want to touch it when it is apparent that the ball isn't for you, your attempt may be interpreted for a serious foul and sorry, you are off.

So, now I am just left reminiscing on the memory of the law school- the mental pressure, the psychological stress, the physical strives and all. There was an occasion that I may not forget in telling my story- the day I had to be a 'gentleman'.

Back then, I was officially in a group of 13- eight guys and five ladies. It was a study plan then that after the general lectures, students should go back to their groups to discuss the topic and answer questions for another one to two hours. Most times, our group received members of other groups who were either unsatisfied with the modus operandi in their groups or have gotten an info that there seemed to be some above-average brains in our group. Truth be told, until the law school result justified the Biblical dictum that 'the race is not for the swift', brains abounded in that group. So, most of our guests from other groups were ladies- sometimes up to 6 or 9. So, when break time comes, you see guys bouncing outside with babes going for shawarma, expensive drinks, expensive this, expensive that. They even come back with expensive things in bags carrying expensive names. But as for me and the members of my 'household', we go just sit there dey gist nothing to pass time. Yes, sometimes we went for those #50 chin-chin, pop-corn, moi-moi and sweet. Tope and Amire would fill their pockets with sweet, Akeem would sit there smiling like an eager groom. Tolu was a loner- with his stern look, my short friend would just sit there saying nothing and doing nothing. Afeez and Abubakar were our friends from the North- very intelligent and friendly individuals. Then Jude will be busy with his law school girlfriend. I was the representative for my school at the law school and also the treasurer of my state's students association- I will either be chasing the association debtors during break, answering some questions put forward by those hard to rule people or trying to please those boys that wanted to 'kill' the honourable rep.

Ladies in the group? 90 percent of them were graduated by private universities. Most times, they would sit gisting with us during break or face their phones. So, one day, I was on a 'debtor chasing' break. I remember I was trying to learn Hausa language from Afeez and Abubakar when two of the ladies pulled me by the arm. 'Hey Davido, you just leave us here every time during break. No sharwarma, no mince pie, no bottle water, nothing! Be a gentleman for once!' I wanted to say one of those very wicked things like 'will I be the one to be paid your dowries or bride prices? Abi emi nikan lokunrin nibi? I also wanted to tell them to go and meet their boys from the same school, but I did not. I managed a smile from my throat. 'Don't worry, I will surprise you soon.' I said. 'Heeeeyyy, Davido na sure guy- after you we will ask Claro too.' I giggled inside and whispered to myself 'I hope they know the difference between I'll give you a surprise and I'll surprise you.' I only  told them I would surprise them. Later in the evening while I was in my study with my roomate- Amire. I told him about what happened and told him my plans. Amire was like 'hha, our spending here na budget o. We no get money for them sharwarma and all.' We both laughed at my plan, and because it was a great one, Amire supported it with #200. I proceeded to Akeem, Tolu and Tope, they gave me #500 all together. I added #300 and went to the woman selling popcorn in the evening. I deposited for a bag of popcorn and a bag of pure water. Then in peace of mind, I went to bed- for once in my life, I snored.

In the morning, we went to class. When it was a few minutes before the break time, I wrote a note and passed it to the four contributors to sign. They did. Immediately it was break time, I jumped out leaving them in high expectations, I proceeded to the woman's shop and lifted a bag of popcorn. I couldn't combine it with the bag of sachet water, so I just removed six out of the water and made for the lecture hall. I got there and hinted Tope to take a photo shoot as i present them the bag of popcorn and the pure water. I dumped it on their laps where they were sitting, they were shocked, but that was not all, I dropped the note signed collectively on the popcorn. The note reads: we understand the need to combat hunger in our society, we are committed to the charity mission and we won't stop doing this as our token to humanity.' 'Hhaaa! David has killed us! David is evil! You are a mischief maker' one of them shouted and burst out laughing uncontrollably. The other was dumbfounded- looking at me like the devil. I went back to my seat and people started staring at them and the big bag of popcorn on their laps- they didn't understand what such beautiful and respected law students would be doing with a big bag of popcorn. They dropped it on the floor and started sharing it.

A day after that, I went to them during break and asked them what they would like me to get for them, they all shouted 'leave us!!! Nothing!! Just go away.' Today, we can afford to buy all the sharwarma for whoever cares to eat them. But the memory has made us appreciate both sides- do not live in pretence- appreciate every condition you find yourself. May God bless all those who live as they are. God bless my law school group. God bless those girls for the incredible personalities. I love you all.

Òru, firmly adjudged as the cocoon of numerous evils
The facade of men whose tool of trades are rifles

Òru, dark and stern, pregnant with uncertainties
An avenue for the flying mothers to do and undo

Òru, to liaise with you, I have mounted this pinnacle
Heavy words tucked in my belly like I férakù.

Òru, in you lies the greatest power of reflection
Which I dare you to provoke on my behalf

Òru, among men, your integrity dwindles
To succeed, mothers warn wards not to deal in/with you
How so Òru, that treading you is exclusive to Ìjàkùmòs among men?
And that despite your beauty, a man of noble birth would eschew you for Òsán?

Òru, why have men forgotten that the hatched eggs of success were laid in you?
And that dreamers ignore sleep to exploit you for noble cause
Pardon us- that we tag you evil because of your dark outfit
And that we ignore the nectar yielded by the stinging bee

Òru- I have come visiting you just for a whisper
Tell me, why do men judge just by the outlook?
