House of rep? God, what have we done to deserve this incurably ridiculous system? So, the legislative arm is not just for governors who exhausted their two terms again, but also for entertainer with no clear cut manifesto, sound understanding of the polity and impressive antecedent in management of people? We will all be all right soon. |
The years of showers in the rain on perforated panties still lingers; Of 2 Naira hooks cast in the flood, hoping for a big catch; The ones of innocent dances among the audience of refined masquerades; Not the rascals of this age adorned in ragamuffin's masks lying on the gods; The years we earned 5 Naira daily for our meals, and no scintilla of worry in the air; 2 Naira bread, 2 Naira beans, and the last Naira as my daily tax to the bully next street; Oh, I miss the year my "8" wasn't perfect, and I had to settle for two zeroes-one being a burden on the one beneath; I miss the years I approached my sisters for a soft loan; Seeking the fund to pay the bully whose toy I fell on and shattered; By my collar, he had held me: "pay my 30 Naira tomorrow, else you die", he barked; And their collective clay bank, sisters broke, to grant their dear brother a loan without collateral; I set off Henry's debt, and I had some peace; But 12 days lapsed, and my sisters came asking: "you said 10 days, you debtor. Pay your debt, lest Papa hears; 20 days passed, and I could only pay 3 Naira, the bully next street was still collecting tax, hence, I couldn't save; One night after dinner, I was arraigned by my sisters; Father was the judge, and my mother, the jury; The complainant read my charge, and how I obtained a loan of 30 Naira which was not serviced; I stood still in my faded Kampala shorts awaiting my verdict; Beads of sweats formed on my forehead and strolled down my neck; "Onigbese", my mother said to taunt me; I always had a defence, but I was short of one this day; "...here is my judgment", Papa said; "You don't grant a loan to a man who has no source of income or collateral. This man is less than 10 and unemployed. David is hereby discharged and acquitted; But mama, the jury wasn't happy with the verdict; "Your verdict is unfair, leave the debtor, dear daughters. I will compensate you", mama said; Two decades later, I'm left with carcasses of memories... And as I took the wig and gown and bowed before the benchers, the poet in me was laid to rest, for law does not date a man committed to another. October 5, 2018. 9:30 PM. |
Nairaland has an unrivalled reputation for churning out and promoting worthless and unappealing items as news. However, the purported headlines of these already odd "news" items on the so called front page are quite weird. Look at this now: Sharon dances with her husband. Who was she meant to dance with? Even if this is a paid "advert", do a professional job of getting a good caption. Are these mods and supermods not paid? |
AnunuebeAgbawo7:And because I don't jump on all thread fighting tribal warlords, I am biased? Friend, the freedom of expression leaves me with the choice to speak or be quiet. I can only address what I see. That you did not read my reply on ALL tribalistic thread doesn't mean I endorse it. Start from the ones you've seen too. I'm not here to fish for tribalists. Peace |
ChiefAzubuikeh:You can't address an issue without making sad tribal innuendos? One begins to question the origin of your problem. Could it be that you were born and not well brought up or you had a good upbringing but threw it away when you got to the city? Whichever it is, if you continue this way, Nigeria has an additional problem to contend with. |
Like the game of draught, the people are being played. States are being administered like companies owned by a few chosen. It is a shame |
He was asked to answer to an allegation of forgery, he was playing tribal card, saying someone speaks Yoruba. One of the major problems of this country is how culprits organise pity-party when they are caught, and people actually fall for it. Crime doesn't run in the blood of Yoruba people, breaching the law is not Igbo or Hausa by ethnic. Crime is what people take to because of greed, impatience, and the impulse for sudden breakthrough. Crime has no tribe. |

This is the dividend of a failed nation. An average Nigerian, because of what he faces daily hardly thinks of survival in the context of saving his own life. He thinks of it in the context of come what may, let me scoop fuel from a fallen tanker, let me pick monies that dropped while robbers are raiding, let me just eat something at the moment, it doesn't matter that it may kill me before morning. We have been so wired to rationalise anomalies and indulge a system that kills us silently. We are probably among the very few countries that think provision of basic amenities by the government is a big deal. It shouldn't be. They're just managers of the state. The roads they build, the power supply, the health care are all from the public fund. It is not them helping us. We are people who would rather take 5000 to vote for an aspirant without ideology and watch our children die in a state hospital that is not functioning than to vote for a sound person who would fix the hospitals. The trend repeats itself everytime. We will lament, cry wolf and woe for our bad decision for 4 years and still, within the election time forget our pains, vote because of pittance, tribal or religious sentiments and then continue the cycle for another 4 years. Is our situation not very troubling? Even at the polls, we hardly have to choose between two or more sound candidates. It is always a choice between two evils, then we are left thinking about which one is lesser. Sometimes, we choose the higher evil because of bags of rice or cash. Money that can't help us when we die on the road they don't fix, money that can't pay our hospital bill when the general hospitals do not have drugs. A country where aspirants ignore debates organised to test their competence and knowledge of policies, and yet they will win at the polls. The most frustrating part is the strange youths who can do anything to defend them. Is the benign madness not plainly becoming malignant, contagious and fast spreading? I doubt if anybody can give birth in Nigeria, leave his or her kids on the street and expect them to turn out well without some divine intervention. Power failure, bad teachers, bad roads, dysfunctional homes, high crime rate, unemployment, poverty will restructure whatever sound mentality they have. The Osun and Ekiti elections are the blue litmus tests of that is to come in 2019. There will be gross violation of rule of law and standards. The style is simple: Unleash poverty among the masses, it will rid them of the ability to think right. During election, offer them quick food or money, steal or buy their mandate. Then let the cycle continue. If we had the collective mental positioning, the type of people leading us today would have no chance at all. They won't even contest because they would know governance isn't a business meant for idiots. Rest in peace man. You won't opt to help your cassava at the expense of your life if you were in a nation with social security, good support structure and every life matters. When a man grows in this kind of hostile nation, it is difficult to know or take the right decisions. A wife and 9 children. 10 people left at the mercy of harsh economic reality in a nation taken to her knees by arguably the most terrible leaders in human history. |
I wish you the best in your pursuit. Stay true to your dream, avoid distractions, and live within your means and the law. Peace. |
Factfinder1:Forward your resume and application to info@ahmedraji.com. Tailor it towards the role of a secretary. I'll follow it up. I make no promise though. However, can one vouch for you to be honest and upright if you are not even honest about your true gender online? I advise that you desist. Your gender would not change anything for anyone who is serious about helping. All the best. |
Factfinder1:How good is your grasp of English? Can you speak well? Write well and type well. I know a law firm in Wuse 2 that needs a secretary. I make no promise, but if you have all they require, I will push for you. |
His family won't. A cat is not a natural or juristic person in law. Properties can only be willed in favour of a natural person (humans) or juristic person (companies, entities, association, etc). |
Tell this to them, not social media. |
Womenrep:I'm humbled. Thanks for taking time out to read. Just read abiut your plan to come to Nigeria too. How did it go? You found Nigeria interesting? |
Womenrep:Lol. Lawyers! Hello |

Richdad50:Without people like you, individuals who are of proper upbringing and sane minds won't appreciate what they've got. One may not exhaustively treasure happiness when he is yet to encounter a man who wallows in sorrow. In saner climes, your type doesn't have the mental capacity, strength of character and requisite exposure to bring up children. If you have kids already, they will be taken from you for adoption. I deem it fit to respond to you because of what the Bible stated in Proverbs 26:5. |
And I am still trying to wrap my head round why the OP makes compliments look like exclusive preserves from men to women. A woman can't compliment a man? A man can't be given compliments? |
With the manner Abati dined and wined in the corridor of power while the tenure of the last administration ran, one must have reservation about his person. It was sadder because he became a watch dog for the government, barking and biting hard with piercing words, anybody that had dissenting views to that of his pay masters. However, sometimes we must look at people and not their act, and vice versa. This piece calls for a need to once again see that beyond the Abati, a man who was invited to a party and forgot his voice and antecedent because of food, there is a genius whose adoption of satire to communicate scathing reality is unrivalled is here. Abati produces brilliant, exceptional and interesting work of literature. It is another piece that has exposed an irresponsible and insensitive government portraying itself as a father figure. Without dragging its gown of deceit and cap of insensitivity with him, Abati blew the cover of one of the most ineffectual and clueless leader in the 21st century. In saner climes, with Buhari's exceptional display of cluelessness, he can't even be considered for an office among pensioners, let alone a complex nation like Nigeria. |
PurplePatch:Lol. Guy, you're mean! |
Like last respect? But then, boxing at a funeral under any guise doesn't seem cool |
Tozara:Hi brother. I responded |

Elliot2:Hi, You should: 1: Stop insinuating that they bought the trial Court and Court of Appeal. You may be making remarks that are too sensitive and can't be substantiated. High Courts, Court of Appeal or Supreme Court are all an arm- you can't make a rubbish of a system and still claim you want to take its full benefits. 2: Avoid being too emotional here. You can make your case here, but here isn't a Court and no serious lawyer will come here to give you the required push with your approach. The rage and uproar may be mere sound and fury, but signifying nothing. 3: Remove the names of every individual you mentioned and alleged to be oppressing you. Your lawyer should be able to concentrate on recovering your family land without diverting attention to some defamation suits slammed against you. That said, I sympathise with you for your loss, albeit, a temporal one, as the Apex Court of the land is still there. So, keep hope alive, but until your case is properly reviewed, I can't make any comment on the issue at hand. Besides, a forum like this isn't an environment to advise you. I don't practice on NL. Now, IF you want to talk to me, do me a dm. Nairaland is not a law office, and until you meet a lawyer, you can't rely on basic suggestions here-from any of us. Thanks at remi1444 for the mention. |

Can you imagine what these Nigerian political animals are doing to our country? May God have mercy on us."
