Folks,

Just thought to share our landing experience...

My wife and I were working to the very last day we were flying. So we already packed our bags over the past few weekends. We had 7bags of 23kg each and 4 hand luggages and 2 kids. The flight was pretty smooth as we flew emirates. The kids slept most of the journey. They only woke up to use the bathroom at intervals and eat. We were given a customs form to fill up on the plane. We landed in Toronto around 9.30am and just followed the arrival directions to immigration. The queue was massive at immigrations we went to the the direction of other passports. A lady officer attended to us after about 20 mins on the line. She asked us how much money we had and the customs declaration form we filled on the plane, just made a cross on the paper( we had nothing to declare) stamped us in and directed us to another queue where we spent another 20mins. I think one of the officers saw we were already swamped so He collected our passports and those forms that came with our COPR. He confirmed the address we wanted our PR card sent to and we signed them off. Next stop was Service Canada. They gave us some slips to fill and in another 20 mins were done. Then we headed to the Baggage claims. Got our bags and there was one more customs post at the exit. So you basically hand the customs declaration form to them here and you exit.

A friend was picking me up so I didn’t need to go get a taxi. My first stop was Canada Post I needed to do an ID verification for the Company running BG checks on me for my Job. Finished that and left to get a telephone line and that was it for the day. I was just famished and needed to sleep.

Cheers

@Akingsqueen,

I am sorry i just got to see your question. I am not sure why this is blocked in your country but there are lots of other free voip calling apps that will give you a US or canadian number. you can try talkatone and see if it works for you.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by hifyty(m): 11:09am On Jun 20, 2018
i would say i got lucky most of the time as i was never asked especially when the conversation usually starts with me declaring that i am not yet landed and i am just counting down my notice period. some of them outrightly tell you this can't work and but then again, absolutely nothing to lose by trying.

revenant:
And you were not asked why you had to put a Canadian address while you are not in the country?

TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by hifyty(m):
Folks,
I just wanted to share the approach I used in getting multiple job offers. So as soon as we got our PR, I started to look for a job in Canada. My first point of call was my current company. I work in the O&G industry and we have company presence in Calgary. The only caveat to this was that I was sponsored by Ontario PNP and hence ran the risk of running into problems later but all the same, I spoke to our HR in Calgary and they offered me a contractor position that would enable me work from home and visit Calgary 2x in a month. My people say, half bread is better than buns. So I held on to that offer and kept looking for other options in ON. By the way, I am a systems Analyst / Systems Administrator. The first thing I did was to get my resume into Canadian shape. I reached out to about 2 friends who are based in Canada to send me templates and I did a pretty good job in making mine. The next thing I did was to get a Canadian Number. in this case, I used an app called (text now) and put this on my resume as well as the home address of one of my friends. And bingo, the calls started to come in for interview requests. my favorite hunting place has to be indeed.ca but there are other effective ones like ziprecruiter.com, Workopolis.com,glassdoor.ca, LinkedIn and monster.ca. I would say I got an average of 2 interviews in a week.
Once an interview call came in, the recruiter or hiring manager would ask about my residency status and availability. I would normally tell them that I am not landed yet but I have my COPR and I am available in 30 days or if the offer is right in 15 days. Now to be honest, most of my interview really go smooth because I am well experienced in my Job and most often than not, I nail the interview but sometimes they want people to come in for a face to face interview or ready to start immediately but I still managed to get a few of them who didn’t mind the wait and we had series of several interviews via video conferencing and right now I have 2 pretty good job offers. One in a bank and the other an ecommerce website. from what I have experienced so far and depending on the company, the first step in the process would be a talent acquisition personnel or HR personnel reaching out to you on phone to discuss the role and this takes anywhere from 15mins to an hour long talk. And they ask you about what you do and everything as claimed on your resume and put in a little screening questions on the technical side in there just to know if you know what you are doing. if you get pass the HR, then you will be invited to talk to the hiring manager or like the team lead of where you end up working. Now this is mostly technical stuffs and as well as checking out for cultural fit. So be prepared for scenario based questions as well as all those why do you think you are the best fit for this job kind of questions. If you scale through this, for some companies they might hire you at this point if they like you but some even go further for another level of interview. At least, For my 2 job offers we went on to have another round of interviews and this had HR, Hiring Manager and a Snr Mgr. in attendance and we started the whole discussion all over and to God be the Glory, I was given offers to start in July. My family and I arrive first week in July and I would be starting work July 9th.
I would also like to advise folks to read about the company (very important) and read the JD very well and see if you can do the Job and shoot for it. For example, even though I am systems analyst/ administrator, The job offer I got in the bank is for an Office365/Microsoft Exchange Admin. If you are given an offer, you would need proof that you are eligible to work in Canada. In both cases, my prospective employers were satisfied with my COPR Visa. So keep looking and searching and never say never you might just be able to get something before landing. I hope this helps someone, it will end in praise!

No, I was PNP Outland.

Inspiring. I'm aspiring PNP and it heartens me that your application was done speedily. Please, small question, are you already in Canada?
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Workers Program-Connect Here Part 3 by hifyty(m): 5:11am On Mar 22, 2018
Thank you. Many of the PNPs are beginning to be processed with Speed too. I presented my six months statement of Account. so many people used their 25% Pension Funds to augment their POFs and they were also nominated.

phf2be:
Congratulations to you and yours @hifyty. Please what did you present as settlement funds to OINP? This one month processing of a PNP-PR application is unprecedented. Congratulations again!
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Workers Program-Connect Here Part 3 by hifyty(m): 1:07pm On Mar 21, 2018
thank you all for rejoicing with me. I look forward to seeing many more PPRs today. @justbazick, For OINP I submitted 6 months statement although it is part of the requirements, the key thing is they want to know if the funds are easily liquidable and not borrowed. so if you are submitting a 3 months statement for example, you will need to state the reasons in your LOE and yes mutual funds are accepted. you need to be able to get a letter from your investment company clearly stating the current value of your funds and how much is withdrawable in CAD. whether this is acceptable to IRCC is a question for the elders.

Cheers!

justbazick:
Congratulations...

For OINP, is it mandatory to submit 6 months bank statement. My POF is in mutual funds and planned using that only. Is this acceptable?

Folks,
I am happy to tell you that the eagle has landed. Please find below my time line and ensuing epistle
IELTS: May 13th 2017
EE profile: June 8th 2017
CRS: 432
PNPO App- 3rd Nov 2017
PNP Nomination: 1st Feb 2018
ITA: 7th Feb 2018
AOR: 20th Feb 2018
MEP: 27th Feb 2018
IP2: 27TH Feb 2018
PPR: 20th March 2018
VO: Ottawa

Background: It has been a long journey and it started 2016 July. So the high CRS of 2016 kept us initially looking the way of getting a Canadian Education to augment our prospective low CRS due to age and level of Education. We were in the middle of the admission process when the CRS started dropping 1st half of last year and armed with an MSc admission, we decided to defer the admission and pursue the direct PR dream. In the words of threadstone, “nothing beats a PR than a PR” I couldn’t agree more with that assertion. Well, maybe nothing beats a PR than a Canadian passport.

ECA: The first problem was using ICAS to assess my credentials, to be candid, I am surprised they are still in business, it took them 8 months after my verification and transcript had been sent by my school. When I became frustrated with the delay, I went the way of WES. WES took 2 months and 3 days. Co incidentally, Both ICAS and WES ECA came out the same day.

IELTS: we studied using ieltsliz.com and did plenty of YouTube tutorials for the Listening. we took the May 13th IELTS and was waiting to dive in the pool the night of May 26th in anticipation for the draw of May 31st. unfortunately, that never happened, the IELTS results was delayed and due to the large scale delayed results and reported malpractice worldwide for that test date. I didn’t want us to take chances so we registered for another IELTS, luckily we got a seat for June 3rd. Our first IELTS results came in June 8th and we both aced the test CLB 9. The 2nd IELTS results came in exactly 13 days later, funny enough also standing at CLB 9 for both of us. But you probably know the story by now, that was the end of the below 430’s CRS for last year.

Silver Lining: The wait for the CRS to fall was so traumatizing that we just couldn’t focus clearly on anything. I remember most people like me who were in the pool last year in the 420’s and mid 430s who were still doing “shakara” when Ontario sent them notification. We became sober when we realized that score was not obeying the law of gravity. Let me digress a little, in the part of the world where we live, the CRS scores come out at night usually around 2am to 3am but you can always be sure that my wife and I would be awake during this time with calculator analyzing the pool and when we think it will get to us. August 17 for sure, we thought. August saw 433’s but no 432’s again. That was when we decided it was time to go back to our first love, the student admission process. So we started that one again. Fast forward, November 2nd, the HCP stream I was using to do shakara in June opened and I remember as I saw that news flash on my phone 3rd Nov, I left everything I was doing and I put in the application immediately.

POST ITA
Medicals: This one wanted to become a stumbling block but God was faithful. I shared the testimony earlier.

POF: 6 months statement on Bank letter head and stamped. There was no accompanying bank letter because weird as it sounds, my bank doesn’t issue such letters.

LOE: I know I probably was a little bit overzealous, but I wanted to avoid any back and forth ADRs, so I looked at any high bank transactions for the 6 months, quoted the dates and put receipts and explanations in there. I also stated my bank doesn’t issue such letters.
Also I had to put in here that my wife’s name change document was a recently sworn affidavit done in 2018. Although this was placed in the Place holder I just wanted to thrash out the disparity in dates.

ADVICE: if you are on the left wing of the 430’s, keep trying to get that CRS UP. Be prayerful, be vigilant and be ready. I wish you the best.

I’d like to send a special shout out to smslive2- Dude, you are far too kind, SmBalogun: I think you should consider a path in prophecy and all the numerous good people on this thread, May God grant your heart desires.

See you around in Canada, It will end in praise!

Cheers

Folks,

I have a testimony, we have passed our medicals, even though the CIC doc told us clearly, you would most likely be asked for further tests for your daughter. we give glory to God that is not happening. I dont know how God did it but he did it anyway. The good glitch that happened also moved our application into the IP2 gang.

Let me borrow the most popular phrase in here; It will end in praise!

Again i appreciate all your prayers and advice.. Thank you delta 007, we will wait for the Procedural Fairness Letter and will respond accordingly. Someone on the thread also recommended taking out insurance to cover the Costs as part of mitigation. i think we can afford it. If anyone can recommend a lawyer who can help with our case as soon as we get the PFL. we dont mind too.

Cheers

Delta007:
Canadian PR Applicants may be denied entry to Canada if their health or any of their dependents' health (whether accompanying or not) is a danger to public health or safety; or will cause excessive demand on the Canadian health care system or on social services in Canada.

School aged children diagnosed with Autism, legal blindness, deafness, etc are flagged because these conditions require special care. If the applicant's family is admitted to Canada, the system is such that the child will get the best care and social support and he (the applicant) will not pay a cent other than his taxes. The healthcare system does not have a cost recovery component where an applicant can choose to reimburse the government, however there have been cases where applicants have put forward a mitigation plan, with success.

@hifyty, I will not resign yet. It may be a longer journey but it is not insurmountable. There is a spectrum of autism, the higher end being extreme and requiring all hands on deck. You will likely not get an outright rejection, unless you choose not to respond. You may be required to go for additional tests and depending on the results, you may want to start thinking of some mitigation measures you can put forward. Again, the context is to minimize the burden on the Canadian healthcare system. Please spend some time reading through this, if you have not already done so: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/standard-requirements/medical-requirements/refusals-inadmissibility/excessive-demand-on-health-social-services.html

All the best!

Good morning,

I am so sorry about your daughter. I am also sorry to tell you that the outlook is bleak, I have had to research this issue for someone before and all the people I saw on Canadavisa forum were asked to do this and that but I did not see them eventually get it.

Please use Google to search for 'autism canadavisa' I am not sure if its allowed, I would have searched for and posted links for you.

As regards your daughter, America is the best place for her. Is it remotely possible that you guys relocate to America? Have you considered options like one of you go to school with plans for post study visa or something? I hate to dash your hopes and asiprations but you need to start adjusting to the possibility of not getting this PR and make alternative plans.

Even in Canada, our research has shown that the amount of money you will pay out of pocket for her therapy is quite high. Australia is not much better either.Nigeria is certainly not the place for her.

I hope she is undegoing additional therapy and not just speech therapy.
Thank you guys for your input. My wife and I are already adjusting to the realities of a possible denial. we are trusting in GOD and just wanted to give it our best shot. She started Speech therapy and Behavioural Therapy and She has improved a lot. As for trying other Countries, we are weighing all our options too

Guys,

we went for our medicals yesterday and our 3 year old was flagged for speech delay. she has ASD and had been undergoing Speech therapy for the past 3 months. Doc said CIC might require further medical Evaluation. Has anyone passed through the same shoes? How did you pull through? Please share your experience. Secondly, will the Newspaper AD change of name for my wife suffice for Legal Name Change Document. As always, i appreciate your input

@ baisy,

if you have withdrawn your profile by mistake, you are not in the pool. so go ahead and create a new EE profile

Baisy:
@hifyty

Think I've done something wrong. I was trying to edit the application but didn't know how so I withdrew the profile. I then found where I can view and edit extisting profile.

My question: can I still use that profile after editing the ECA portion. By the way, the forms are showing "Transmitted". I hope that won't be an issue.

I'm a novice at these things so please no vex say I too dry ask questions.

Thanks.
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by hifyty(m): 5:36am On Jul 02, 2017
@baisy

Once you reject an ITA, you are back in the pool, you dont need to create a new EE profile, Just edit the current profile and put in the right ECA date and you are good to go.

The POF Issue has been debated times and times over on this thread, CIC explicitly asks for the POF in the name of PA. An alternative is to have the funds in a joint account with the PA's name on it Else, the monies have to be transferred to the PA's account and then POF submitted along with a declaration from the spouse that the monies transferred to the PA are a gift and not a loan hence need not be returned. Now while this is the standard, I personally know of a Landed PR who presented his Spouse account as POF with LOE and got away with it. so again, One is at the mercy of the VO. So whichever one works well for you.

that was a wise decision rejecting the initial ITA, you'll get another one soon enough, Do it well and do it right.

Cheers

Baisy:
So I have declined the ITA but I want to know how to edit my EE profile. Will I retrieve the entire application that was done before? Or start a new profile entirely?

Also, I want to know how proof of funds works with spouse account. Wife and I had separate EE profiles with our funds in her name. Funds were in account because she was the one with valid profile at the time. Now she doesn't have a valid profile at the moment and so not in the pool but I do.

When I get another ITA, which I believe I will soon, how do you suggest we handle the funds. Do we transfer to my account or what?

I'll appreciate your guidance.

Thanks.
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by hifyty(m): 10:58am On Jun 29, 2017
@Baisy,

That is misrepresentation and grounds for a 5 year Ban. It is not worth it, Patience is the name of the game for Canadian PR, If i were you, i would reject the ITA and wait for my ECA to come in. Point 3 means you will likely need an FBI PCC, Looking at trends, that might take you 2- 3 months to get. Once you get your ITA, your 90 days count down begin so you need to get your docs ready. Your Reference letter can be have the heading To Whom it may concern and have your Co Founder to sign on this. I am sure i have seen a couple of samples on this thread. search and you'll find.

All the best!

Baisy:
Hello everyone.

I am new on this forum even though wifey has been telling about how great this forum is. In fact, she shared useful information from this space with me in the past.

So I received ITA yesterday but there's a snag because ECA wasn't completed by the time I submitted my EE profile. My questions will in three folds and I will appreciate if anyone can give guidance on how to proceed.

Here goes:

1) What do I do because the date quoted in the EE submission for ECA will be totally different from the ECA Certificate? Reject, edit and wait for next draw?

2) I have worked and lived in different countries in the past so knowing that I need security clearance in Nigeria, can anyone advise on how to get clearance in UK & America?

3) I currently work in a company I co-founded and knowing that there has to be Reference Letter from place of work (also do I get from all my past employers), I will appreciate if anyone has a sample of the sort of letter to write plus who is it supposed to be addressed to?

Lastly, is there any other thing I should know about?

Thank you people.

@Mzjennypher, I have witnessed this before, Sadly, The individual was not allowed to write the test even though he had a printed coloured Copy of his PP.(he had to opt for rescheduling his test). BC officials are always very strict. PS my experience was for a test outside of Nigeria, I am not sure how it will play out but there is no harm in trying. The worst case scenario will be to reschedule your test.

Hello House, Please help. I have updated my spouse's education in the study section after we received her ECA report from WES but the overall scrore has not increased and its over 48 hours now. I also observed that my points look like that of a single but I filled in all my spouse's information and that is also visible in the application. e.g. I am 34 but can see 83 for age points instead of 75.

Has anyone experienced this. What steps can I take to correct it?

TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by hifyty(m): 5:38am On Jun 21, 2017
Bro, my honest opinion is for you to retake your IELTS test and try to ace it. There is no point asking for a remark in writing since you didn't hit 8 band in your listening. Saskatchewan Express Entry sub-category is closed to applications as at this time. you may want to be on the lookout for that.

Cheers

Chinnie4Jesus:
Why don't you ask for your writing to be remarked. You will get atleast 7 in it. I think you should consider that rather than going the PNP route. You have to pay CAD300 for it and you are not even sure of getting nominated. Then you can only live in Saaks for some years. PNP application takes a longer time to process. Be patient, have faith and go for a remark. All the best.
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by hifyty(m): 7:17am On Jun 14, 2017
In addition, @issyman, I think your wife has the potential to have a higher CRS due to her age and experience. If i were you, i would exploit that. Make sure your IELTS are at least CBL9 (LSWR 8-7-7-7) and you may not be needing to go through the PNP route. PS Ontario issues NOI for EE profile of 400 and above in their Human Capital Stream Category. The NSNP is currently not accepting applications at this time. http://novascotiaimmigration.com/move-here/nova-scotia-demand-express-entry/ for their category B stream. you may want to look out for that if you are still interested.

Cheers

Actually 25 weeks or more. I fell into their trap and wouldn't advise anyone to go the ICAS way at all. I eventually had to go with WES.

Dammiehar:
ICAS is worse, processing time is 20 weeks after all documents are received, approximately 5 months. We should just stick with the ones we have and hope to get it within 2 to 3 months.

I don't think you need crb.com to process your PCC. Have someone go to alagbon and pick the form for you. Return the filled form (scanned) to the person along with your passport photograph and passport datapage. Ofcourse with the fees grin. Your PCC will come out asap, not everyone in Nigeria is even travelling down to Lagos to get PCC.

I bet you dont want to thread that crb path and wait forever after paying a lot.
