Dear Senators, My name is Jeffrey. I’m a constituent of Osun Central and East Districts as a resident and indigene respectively. I don’t want to take so much of your time, so I’ll cut to the chase. I initiate this correspondence to register my displeasure and disproval of the proposed Social Media Bill which has been rumored to have climaxed to its second reading. I find it disheartening that despite the relentless pursuit of the government in proposing hostile and inhumane policies, representatives have joined the Executive to partake in further desecration of the basic right of Nigerians. It is our right to speak up at all times. Falsehood is a natural phenomenon and, unless one resides in an imaginary world or heaven, this is always bound to happen. The intention of the Nigerian Senate—and by extension the National Assembly—to quickly escalate the passage of this bill raises so many questions and exposes the unwillingness and purposeful failure of this arm of government to take important matters with the same intensity of seriousness. It’s a little understandable that the government may be concerned about falsehood and its propagation, however this unwarranted fear merely demonstrates the obvious lack of transparency by every arm of the government. If the government were to be open about all its endeavors as constitutionally mandated in favor of the citizen’s right to information, we wouldn’t be here grappling and fighting tooth and nail to oppose a bill that should never have been prepared in such a society as Nigeria. To imagine the many challenges Nigerians are facing are being ignored at the expense of the ego of government officials elected by the people is quite frankly very upsetting to say the very least. The proposal of such bill is selfish. The Nigerian officials have not merited such feeling of anguish because they have NOT done anything for the people who elected them. Representatives were elected to SERVE the interest of their constituents and NOT to worry about how news—false or true—affects them. Nigerians are suffering at the expense of the unmerited inflated salaries of the legislature, and 469 people, at the comfort of their chambers, with heavy security waiting for them outside and scores of aides at their beck and call, want to make such call take away the basic right of over 150 million Nigerians without even being consulted!? That is NOT done and it is simply unacceptable. Government should be 100% transparent in their dealings and “fake news” will inevitably fizzle out, if that’s really the concern of the Nigerian Senate. A claim was made that fake news could cause attacks and reprisal attacks. That is false. There is no statistic or record that shows that fake news caused any attack in the country up till date. We live in an era where an information travels faster than you can say hello. If a lie travels fast, the truth travels just as fast through the same medium. There is no justification to eliminate people’s basic rights because some people in government feel unjustifiably aggrieved. The acts of a few should and will NOT determine the elimination of people’s basic rights. There are courts already to deal with cases of libel and similar grievances, unless the National Assembly is saying the courts are no longer reliable. This is a disastrous bill and should not be supported in any way by anyone who’s gained the backing and trust of the people at the polls. I trust that you will not only revisit this bill and study it further but that you will also reach out to members of your district to properly explain this bill to them and get their consent before taking any decision. I believe more correspondences such as this shall be coming your way from more concerned people, even to your colleagues from all over the country. Thank you for your time. (Copied)

It is really sad today that almost everything is done by some people for social media post. However of what value is this to the society and the man in question, why striking a pose if you can't do the needful by helping the man to a rehab center |

Ariza:How can you be grateful without love ? How can you show appreciation without love? Only he who has encountered love can really be grateful. If a word is being used repeatedly soon it's meaning and implication will be forgotten such is the case of love. Love is the foundation upon which humanity is created, it is the essence of man. Love is a fruit of the spirit and never a state of mind. It is deeply rooted in our being. Love is not an emotion but a very state of being......Love is totality, the ultimate truth and the absolute. Love knows no division but unity, everything is unified through love. The first step towards finding love is self discovery...Watch if your heart is functioning, so many individuals have lost their hearts to the inferior by depending on their minds. When the heart becomes pure only love is what remains. When there is no any dust upon the surface of the heart, love is what happens. The truth is that many of us don't know how to love because we have never loved ourself. |
SincereBigot:...May you not be tested beyond your threshold |
partnerbizn:No pundit and scholar can unravel the mystery of this existence only the mystics are qualify in this category. |
peterd53:you can't even trace it |
durubennie:I'm afraid they might not be able to reverse ur money considering the mode of transaction up there... The criminal in question has used ur money to buy cryptocurrency so as not to be traced |
Wantedmiller:. This to me is not a solution and what is the essence of embarking on a journey only to turn in a midway. No Nation in the world can grow without encouraging its locally made product, but to grow our economy locally we need basic infrastructure which is not readily available as far as Nigeria is concerned. The policy is good but not timing, how do you justify buying locally made rice 18k per 50kg. This will aggravate more hardship on the citizens. The foundation upon which this policy is made is erroneous and mark my word it won't last. |
The best decision for you now is to part ways so as to avoid the avoidable worries, troubles, financial and emotional drains in the nearest future. I can't even wish my enemy to continue such a relationship because of the experience had with my neighbor in my undergraduate days, out of the four children they had, 2 were ss. It drained them financially eventhough they were being paid well. Up to this moment i still can't fathom how they choose to marry each other because the husband is a lecturer and the wife a nurse..... |
According to your post... I have 3 questions for you so that the fact can be established and the truth will be encountered. 1. Your husband volunteered to take her to the hospital.......The girl upon her arrival from the hospital gave you her testimony that nothing is wrong with her .. ..what was the testimony of your husband ? 2. The girl pack her laugage and left....? What was your husband reaction? I don't want to say anything until the truth is established |

Toks2008:This does not require much deliberations to arrive at your conclusions in making your decision. Marriage is between 2 matured individual who are mentally sound, emotionally matured and not for individuals who are just sensual because marriage comes with a lot of demands and challenges. In choosing your life partner you must first understand that it's a life time journey and if your choice is based only on physical appearance you May be heading for a long thing. Sensuality can not keep marriage but love and wisdom will, having a partner who is well behaved with a good character is a plus.......When you are to choose between beauty and brain.......choose brain. A woman who is physically attractive without a homely character is a nooo for me and who tells you that can't have both beauty and brain together in a personality |
GoTV:who is this one? You said u are a born again christian and you wrote this? You must have been born again to ur creed and doctrines ......Speak for yourself |
Suicide is never an option no matter what, u have to see every situation as a possibility to move towards freedom rather than getting entangled. If you use every situation as a stepping stone, then there is no question of suicide. Of course at some point in live we get confused, some get frustrated, others get angry at themselves but we must not let any of this state of mind becomes our permanent state of abode...Our state of being is very important in every circumstances, mind keeps shifting with time..........When the soul keep calling then you realised how powerless is the mind......Suicide is a self destructive verdict endorsed by an illusory mind..........a distorted vision is before any suicide |
larryking540:and you call this Truth? If I may ask what's truth is smoking canabis....it does more harm to ur nervous system eventually..... What's truth about drinking alcohol, it weakens ur liver as time goes on and what's gainful about womanizing? I am not a moralist but when there is a void in your soul, nomatter what you do externally to fill the gap,it will keep lingering...... |
uzedo1:may you never experience depression. A depressed soul is not normal again, all the energy that is suppose to work for him is now working against him. Man must at every moment be concious of his reality, we must learn to live without allowing our psychological drama get in our ways.......Hopelessness is dangerous, a man who is hopefull can never be depressed . |

Even though I'm a born again Christian, I'm terribly ashamed of the way we Christians conduct ourselves and handle depression. Unlike our Muslim brothers who would rather make lemonade when life throws them lemons, we Christians will rather commit suicide out of cowardice. We indeed have a lot of lessons to learn from our Muslim counterparts
