tkb417:
that doesnt apply to modern day footie
Terry and Carlvalho are similar in thier approach to games and they had a solid understanding b4 injury crept in
RIO and Terry for national team and some other examples like dt
modern day football will not look at 5 or 6 b4 going for players. Ability is the mian thing
Terry and carvalho are not similar
Terry is a traditional stopper, last man in defence, while Carvalho plays in front of him.
Vidic is a traditional stopper also, while Rio plays in front of him
Campbelll was a traditional stopper, while KT played in front of him.
Though, modern footie has changed all this, with so many strange formations etc,
but footie is still traditional by nature!

all ur players have lost formI think form in footie is directly related to the form of the team in question. when a team is passing thru difficulties, it tells on the players
Gallas, Clichy, Almunia all had some teriible spells and i dont think KT shld be singled out
Fabregas too was a bit lukewarm last season

nuff said, dude is gone; who are you buying?
how many are you buying cos to me, ure back to square one. Buy one lose one doesnt sound good to me cos you people had defensive issues in terms of numbers, quality and all.

Now debosky
i wanna remind you of ur crazy arithmetic of being 300% better than UTD cos u didnt lose any player as at that time
do ur maths again and lets know what you come up with
No way. . . .
Almunia's best season as an Arsenal player was probably last season. . .
and with some of the injury woes, the likes of Nasri, RvP and Song(2nd half of the season) were outstanding.
Truth be told,Kolo has not been the same player since returning from ACN 08.
I am a great fan and would always hold him special.
I wrote here that i am still gutted he was sold, but eh, he can't play for Arsenal forever.
Wish him the very best at Citeh and hope he break's Ade's ankles in training grin
Meanwhile, we've sold 2, bought 1.
A correct asessment can only happen on September 1, 2009

oh i see
when you buy, you sell grin grin

i tot the plan for wenger was to add to the defenders he had cos he singled out the backline as the place to shore up.
so why would an addition be equal to a subtraction?

it makes no sense, dont you think so.
@Tkb417,
Nope
Gallas and Toure combo never worked because they are both Similar players.
The traditional number 5!
Our best performances in defence generally had always been Gallas/Senderos, Toure/senderos,Gallas/Djorou or Toure/Djorou
(You can see I tacitly didnt include The Geriatric one grin)
Apart from the fact that combo didnt work, they didnt get along in real life.
It got so bad, that KT leaked it to the Press and
AW also commented about it in the PRESS!!!(I have never heard him comment about such before)
Things got so bad in january that KT(Mr Arsenal) handed in a transfer request.
Many of us dismissed it as a joke, but by the end of the window, it was well known that it actually opened.
KT even gave an interview on arsenal.com to reiterate that he's commited to the cause, bla, bla, bla
In fact, in many Arsenal blogsites, the debate has been raging since end of 08/09 season over who should go,Gallas or KT?
with many, though, admiting that KT has lost form since the ACN, but on sentimental reasons would prefer him to stay.
(So many arsenal fans still can't get over the fact that an ex-Chav was made a Captain of Arsenal)
It was only a matter of time, before one of them left, and since Gallas quashed the rumour of his leaving us, KT looked like the person to go.
Wenger hasn't said he's through with his signing of defenders.
Another one may come in to join Vermalen.

What is new in this story? We all knew City tried to buy Kolo in January so there's no revelation there. All he said is that there was some talk of going to City. He handed in a transfer request but we flatly rejected it then.
Abeg.Debo, tell them
Maybe they didnt read the news back then.
Once Vermealen was signed, we knew one of Toure and Gallas would leave.
It was only a matter of time.

All signing as at end of last season Most players Mourinho got in his last season were free transfers

Pizarro, Ben Haim

@ Dayo,
read wetin you post na?
I was sure when I was answering you that you would convert to Dollar, euro or Yen grin
The Reyes fee said, . .'depending on the success of Arsenal, could rise to 17m
Now, how much success was there when Reyes played for us(Or we won the CL2ce)
Did Reyes complete his contract?
We didn't pay 20m for Reyes!

dayokanu:
The highly-rated 16-year-old is moving to Arsenal for a fee that is expected to be worth an initial £5m, but rising to about £12.5m.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/4614538.stm

12.5m Pounds was how much in Euro/Dollars in 2006
Read the highlighted. . , . . .
That is expected, is a  guess by the BBC(means they weren't sure)
Arsenal did not disclose the fees, unless you were there when the signing went on. grin

Meanwhile, our biggest signing ever  is Arshavin at around 16.5 million.
compare that to the other teams who have spent over 20m on players regularly.

Not necessarily. . .the business model is essentially self sustaining if you look at the fact that gate reciepts just about equate the loan repayments. What the board are looking at is not overtly rocking the boat by being prudent financially and only making purchases that would clearly improve the team i.e AA23 and Vermaelen.
I still think all these are knee jerk reactions.
AW has not said he won't spend anymore in this window.
He has said, he feels the team is strong enought to compete and will add more to it only if necessary.

This piece was culled from the net

It really looks like the sale of Toure is going to happen, its quite sad really. I remember when he came on as a sub against Chelsea, to chants from the chavs of "who are yer" he then promptly scored! grin However, he is not the player he was when he played with Campbell sad. To my mind he's never been the same since he got malaria. Sometimes a player needs to move on to find their form again, my main concern is that it addresses the area which Man City are lacking in, their defence. I just hope we buy Hangeland, he is what we need a tall centre back, who doesn't bottle headers (remember his goal against us Mr Gallas), a leader and experienced. It he was to line up next to Vermaelen we would have the captains of their respective National sides. My worry now is what is to happen to Gallas, he was superb once stripped of the captaincy, but he only has a year left on his contract, will he be sold on or play out his contract? Sorry i forgot to state this is the worst pre-season ever! Personally I hated the pre-seasons with Viera will he, won't he stay. Until Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea strengthen their teams significantly I won't be sweating too much.

Like I have said earlier, i would be gutted to lose Kolo Toure, but like the guy said above, he's not really been the same Kolo for some time now and getting good money for him in the last year of his contract looks good(he could walk away for free at the end of next season)
However, what worries arsenal fans the most, is getting replacements.
Would we use the money from Kolo's sale to get a top notch defenderhuh huh
Why we were pissed last term was that, we lost Flamini, Diarra and Gilberto in one season and failed to replace them?
It was a recipe for disaster.
Come on, AW,Gazidis et al, you have got to do something here, . . . . and fast also!
