PoliticsBirthday Interview: Public Office Is A Policy Lab - Mallam Olawale Rasheed by Honbright(op): 9:48am On Feb 02
Mallam Olawale Rasheed is a public policy professional with decades of experience in journalism, business, politics and public service. The Spokesperson and Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke granted a birthday interview to some journalists, addressing many personal and public issues. Except

When are you releasing your book about your life experience ?

Mallam Olawale Rasheed: The book is ready but it is not the usual autobiography. We have been too busy, hence the delay in getting it to the public. Also,I don't want the usual traditional method of book launching. My plan is to give out the book free to students, business and political leaders. I find it difficult to ask people to pay before they read about my life experience.

But book writing is treated as a business by many people. Why is your case different?

Mallam: That is true. I know book publishing is a serious business. My disagreement is the idea of people paying to read about my life. What should be commercialised are books about ideas and contributions to scholarship, books that advances research and contributions in various fields deserve commercialisation. You are buying the book to pay for knowledge. It is different when the book is about where I was born, what experiences have I gained in the world. This is just my personal viewpoint.

So what is the book focusing on?

Mallam : My book is a blend of professional and life review. I crafted the book in a way that builds my biography around a new field that is yet to gain full currency here in Nigeria, that is policy entrepreneurship. I attempted to make it a seminar book in that field. It is all about passion for positive changes in the society through internal influencing of policy direction. The field of policy entrepreneurship is relatively new. I hope my book provides insight into that sector using my life experience as a guide.

Policy entrepreneurship? Can you shed more light on this?

Mallam: It is not about entrepreneurship; it is not about consultants submitting one proposal or the other across government agencies; this is more about policy professionals with an eye on effecting societal changes through direct influencing of policy choices by the elected heads of government. They are either advisors or special aides to leaders who have direct political power. Their preoccupation is to see positive deliveries in health, education, energy among others. Sincerely, it is like activists for social change inside corridors of power.

Is it a course of study yet?

Mallam: In Europe and North America, Yes. In Africa, it is still a fragment of public administration. What my book did was to flesh out basic principles of the new field. Such topics as who is a policy entrepreneur? How does a policy entrepreneur operate? What makes successful policy entrepreneurs among others?

What qualifies you to write a book on such a new field?

Mallam: Very valid question. I don't lay claim to being an expert in the field. I stated this clearly in the book. But the totality of my life experience fits into that professional circle. I reviewed my sojourn so far and I discovered I am indeed a policy entrepreneur. I have the rare privilege of combining so many fields and operating so successfully in all of them. What drove me mostly was the yearning to fight poverty of which I was a childhood victim. I grew up to realise that governmental powers are the best instrument to get the poor out of poverty. Hence, the aspiration to be close to the corridor of powers was to get power holders to change the story of the poor for the better. Top power holders hardly have policy entrepreneurs as advisors or players within their inner circles; they are mostly surrounded by hawks focussed on milking the system for self-enrichment. My background, my experience and my current position place me at a great advantage to write on the subject.

You mention policy entrepreneurs as social change activists in corridors of powers. Did you fall under that category?

Mallam: It may interest you to note that in my university days, I was a closet socialist radicalised and indoctrinated by association in those days with Eastern socialist Europe. When socialism failed, the energy was diverted to social crusading through journalism. In fact, agenda setting for societal policy changes was my main motive for choosing journalism as a career in those days. Our writings attempted to set an agenda for those in government. I agree I am not a Comrade in the real sense of the word. But I have an inner vision of deploying government through politics to fight poverty and under-development. Again, that passion accounted for my interest in politics right from the days of UPN to PSP to SDP to UNCP to PDP. I believe I am a social crusader who believes state power can be directed to positively touch the lives of the people.

Were your days as a journalist assisted in the career transformation you listed?

Mallam: I will say yes. From my days at the 1994 National Constitutional Conference to the Third Eye Newspapers and finally to the Tribune newspapers, the media shaped my life. My book dwells on this media journey. I reported from the headquarters at Ibadan, then later as a political correspondent in Lagos and finally in Abuja from 1999 as National Assembly and politics correspondent. It was a rare privilege to work with the Tribune titles. I salute all my bosses and associates those still within and those outside the oldest private newspapers in the country. I greet my boss, the MD of Tribune titles, Edward Dicson; the daily editor, Hadji Debo Abdulahi; Saturday Editor, Lasisi Olagunju; and Sunday editor, Sina Oladeinde; my brother Festus Adedayo among others. It was indeed an honour to serve at various times as Abuja Bureau Chief, Group Politics Editor and at a time Northern Region Editor. I was however an unusual journalist because I was in and out of the newsroom on political appointments.

You have served at the federal level. Were you able to influence policy direction as a policy entrepreneur?

Mallam: I will boldly say Yes. In all places where I have served, we tried our best to influence our principal to implement critical policy changes. As the only special assistant to the Federal Minister of Youth Development between 2007 to 2011, Nigeria witnessed her golden age in youth development innovations and policies. Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, my able minister, delivered exceptionally. I was part of that success story. My book chronicles several of such policy innovations. As a special assistant to the Minister of Power, Mohammed Wakil, from 2013 to 2015, we were part of bold reforms in the power sector including renewable energy. Again, my book listed successful policy changes of the said period. A period of positive impact in national economic reform from the private sector angle was my service as the Executive Director of the National Chamber Policy Center in Abuja between 2018 and 2022. The center is a NACIMMA/ACCI policy center. We did a lot of policy study and reports covering all sectors of the Nigerian economy to the Presidency and almost all the key ministries and agencies. Our work deals with entire policy circles. I am glad many of our proposals were adopted in many sectors during the period. In this aspect of my life, I must pay homage to my bosses in the business chamber movement, former Defence Minister, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode and First Deputy President of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and former NEPZA boss, Professor Adesoji Adesugba.

CrimeKokoricha College Franklyn Lost Fiancee, Son Over Violent Incident In Nigeria by Honbright(op): 6:53am On Nov 05, 2025
A Nigerian man, Mr. Kokoricha College Franklyn, from Delta State, has narrated the heartbreaking story of how he lost his fiancée and infant son during a violent incident in Benue State, followed by a series of threats that left him helpless and his life under high risk even after changing location to different places In Nigeria.

Franklyn, a 55-year-old commercial bus driver of Urhobo origin, had lived and worked in Abugbe, Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State for several years, operating his transport business mainly at the Obagaji International Yam Market.

In an interview, he explained that his troubles began after his relationship with an Idoma woman, Miss Blessing Omoche, met with strong resistance from her family.

“I met Blessing in 2015 during a business trip to Otukpo,” Franklyn recounted. “We became close, and by 2019 I proposed to her. Her mother supported us, but her uncle, Mr. Fidelis Omoche, completely rejected the idea because of my age and tribe.”

Despite the opposition, the couple continued their relationship. Blessing later became pregnant and moved in with him. On February 22, 2022, she gave birth to a baby boy, John Oghenekeme Kokoricha, in Abugbe.

According to Franklyn, their life together was peaceful until tragedy struck in May 2023.

“I had travelled to Akure for work when she told me her mother was ill in Otukpo,” he said. “She left the next morning with our baby, but that same day, there was a Fulani herdsmen attack along the route she was to take. I couldn’t reach her again.”

Franklyn said that despite days of searching with the help of police and local volunteers, neither Blessing nor the baby was ever found.

“I went from hospital to hospital, and even the mortuaries,” he said. “There was no trace of them. It felt like my whole world ended.”

Months later, Blessing’s mother reportedly died of shock after learning of her daughter’s disappearance.

Following her death, Franklyn claimed that her uncle, Mr. Fidelis, began accusing him of being responsible for the tragedy and vowed to deal with him.

Things worsened in January 2024 when suspected herdsmen attacked Abugbe community, destroying homes and killing several residents.

“I was lucky to be away that night,” he said. “When I returned after the army came, my house was completely burnt down. I lost everything.”

PoliticsEkiti APC Decides: Ignore Baseless Statements From Ekiti Non-indigenes by Honbright(op): 12:08pm On Oct 29, 2025
RE: CONDEMNATION OF KANGAROO PRESS CONFERENCE BY NON-INDIGENES OF EKITI IN ABUJA ON EKITI APC CONSENSUS PRIMARY ELECTION

Our attention has been drawn to a kangaroo press conference held in Abuja by some individuals who are not indigenes of Ekiti State, making false and misleading claims about the just concluded APC Governorship Consensus Primary Election in Ekiti

We wish to categorically state that the primary election held on Monday, October 27, 2025, was peaceful, free, fair, and credible, one of the best in the political history of Ekiti State. The exercise was conducted transparently, witnessed by INEC officials, and supervised by the APC National Chairman, where His Excellency, Abiodun Oyebanji (BAO) emerged as the authentic candidate of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

We therefore condemn in strong terms , the actions of these non-indigenes and so-called CSOs most of whom are known members of the ADC and PDP based in Abuja. They have no moral or political authority to meddle in the internal affairs of the APC in Ekiti State. We advised them to stare clear of Ekiti politics and focus on resolving issues within their own parties.

Ekiti State remains peaceful and united, and our delegates have spoken clearly through their votes. Any attempt by outsiders to distort this democratic process or undermine the will of the people will be resisted. The good people of Ekiti will not take it lightly with them or their sponsors when the time comes.

We urge the general public to disregard the baseless statements issued by these impostors and continue to support the peace, unity, and progress of our dear state under the capable leadership of Governor Abiodun Oyebanji

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement.

PoliticsPresidency Orders Comprehensive Review Of Appointees’ Certificates - Source by Honbright(op): 3:33pm On Oct 13, 2025
ABUJA — An anonymous source inside the Presidential Villa has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed a comprehensive review of all academic and NYSC certificates submitted by federal appointees.

According to the source, the order was given in response to growing public concern over recent revelations of dubious credentials, particularly following the resignation of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, over allegations that his degree and NYSC certificate were forged. The source said the President is determined to restore confidence in the integrity of public appointments.

What the Review Will Involve

• All ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) will be required to resubmit copies of the academic and NYSC certificates of all currently serving federal appointees, including ministers, special advisers, heads of agencies, and other political appointments.

• A verification process will be activated, possibly in collaboration with universities, the National Youth Service Corps, and other credential-issuing bodies.

• The resignations, dismissals or other disciplinary actions may follow if any submitted proof is found to be false, forged, or unverifiable.

WHAT PROMPTED THE MOVE

The source says that the President’s decision was partly influenced by:

1. The widespread media reports about Mr. Nnaji’s certificates being disowned by both the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and the NYSC. These reports raised fundamental questions about how someone with such disputed credentials could be appointed.

2. Pressure from civil society, opposition parties, and concerned citizens, calling for higher standards of accountability in public office.

3. The need to prevent future certificate forgery scandals, which threaten public trust in government.

POTENTIAL IMPLICATIONS

• Federal appointees whose credentials fail verification could be asked to resign or face suspension.

• It could lead to wider reforms in how appointees are vetted, including creation or strengthening of digital verification databases, closer liaison with credential-issuing bodies, and perhaps legal penalties for forging or misrepresenting documents.

• The move has the potential to expose more cases like Nnaji’s, and could be politically sensitive, especially among those worried about retrospective scrutiny.

SCEPTICISM, HURDLES, AND UNCERTAINTY

• The anonymous source admitted that implementing the review may be complicated by incomplete academic records and institutional delays.

• Questions remain over whether the review will cover past appointees (who may still be in office) or only those appointed from a certain date.

• It is not clear how far the President wants the process to go: whether simply to verify credentials, or to enforce consequences.

EducationIdanre Students Union Questions Ondo Reps Fessywest's N800 Million Road Projects by Honbright(op): 8:20pm On Oct 09, 2025
The Idanre Students Union has refuted reports claiming that the union appealed to the Ondo State Government, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa to repair the deteriorating road linking parts of Idanre community.

In a statement issued jointly signed by all the union Excos on Wednesday, the union clarified that its call was not directed to the state government but to the Member representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Festus Akingbaso Fessywest.

According to the union, the federal lawmaker has access to N800 million constituency funds, and the group urged him to utilize part of the allocation to commence the rehabilitation of the affected road.

The students further alleged that the earlier statement sent to The Punch was an attempt to divert public attention away from the responsibilities of the federal representative, insisting that their appeal had been deliberately misrepresented.

They maintained that the union’s position remains consistent — that the federal lawmaker should take immediate steps toward rehabilitating the road to alleviate the hardship faced by residents and commuters in the area.

PoliticsEngr. Rasaq Obe Reportedly Rejects Ondo Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Directive by Honbright(op): 2:46pm On Oct 08, 2025
The recent directive issued by the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, instructing all former political office holders to return government property in their possession, including official vehicles, has reportedly sparked controversy among some affected individuals.

According to reliable sources, a former Commissioner for Energy in the state, Engr. Rasaq Obe, has allegedly vowed not to comply with the directive.

Engr. Obe, who arrived at Akure Airport aboard an Overland Airways flight (ABV–AKR, Aircraft Reg. No. 5N-CCM) on October 6, 2025, at about 11:11 a.m., was said to have immediately convened an emergency meeting of his political associates under the banner of the Rasaq Obe Political Dynasty to deliberate on the governor’s order.

At the meeting, he reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the directive, describing it as unfair considering his contributions and investments in stabilizing the present administration. He was also said to have accused Dr. Seun Osamaye and the current Commissioner for Energy of being behind what he termed his “current ordeal.”

A leaked audio recording allegedly from the meeting revealed that Engr. Obe expressed readiness to work with other political actors opposed to the governor’s leadership. In the recording, some voices were also heard making critical remarks about the governor’s relationship with his deputy, suggesting that the deputy had been relegated to the role of an “errand boy.”

Among those reportedly present at the meeting were Barrister Asani Bakare (Special Adviser to the Governor), Hon. Gbenga Adu (Special Adviser to the Governor), Hon. Kunle Adu (Special Adviser to the Governor), Barrister Collins Awoseye (Secretary, Ifedore Local Government Council), and Engr. Alex Oladimeji (former Chairman, Ifedore Local Government), among others.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Engr. Rasaq Obe nor the Ondo State Government has issued an official statement regarding the development.

PoliticsCAI4SR Tasks Govt On Inclusion, Enforcement Of Persons With Disabilities Law by Honbright(op): 5:55am On Sep 07, 2025
A non-governmental organisation, Community Advancement Initiative for Self-Reliance, CAI4SR, has urged the government and stakeholders in Osun State to embrace inclusive education and remove barriers that prevent persons with disabilities from fully participating in society.

Speaking at the event, the executive director, CAI4SR, Eni Ayeni, stressed that the sensitization became a necessity in order to uphold ethical standards in reporting and understanding the legal frameworks that protect the rights of persons with disabilities.

Ayeni added that the initiative, which was funded by Christoffel Blinden Mission (CBM) International, will further highlight the critical role of the media in shaping public perception and influencing policy, particularly on disability inclusion.

She said, “Creating awareness, sensitization programmes and having journalists coming in.

We talk about those issues of the discrimination against persons prohibition law once in a week. Imagine them talking about it on their different stations once a week.

Definitely, there will be so many people who are aware of this law. And either they are asking for the promotion of their right or the implementation of this law.

“So, journalists have a fundamental part to play in this law. And then when it comes to reporting issues that have to do with Disability rights, by the time they report these issues, they are right.

It is definitely going to bring an end to this whole stereotype and name-calling of persons with disability.

“The workshop will not only sharpen reporting skills but also empower journalists to amplify disability issues, challenge stereotypes, and contribute meaningfully to building a more inclusive society through responsible and impactful journalism.”

Re: Misguided Political Antics by the Interior Minister in Ondo State

Our attention has been drawn to recent attempts by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (BTO), to cloak his personal battles for political survival in the guise of loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

It has become clear that the Minister’s present maneuvers are not about service to Mr. President or strengthening the APC. Rather, they are about securing his own retainership in office beyond 2027. If indeed he desires continuity, the most honorable path is to face his job squarely as Minister and deliver on his mandate, not to meddle in Ondo State politics.

Here in Ondo State, the APC remains popular and firmly on ground. We have just secured victory across all local governments—proof that the party’s base is solid and needs no distractions from Abuja. The Minister must therefore understand that the politics of desperation is unnecessary, counterproductive, and unhelpful to the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Instead of sponsoring attacks and engineering unrest in the state under the banner of “support for Asiwaju,” Hon. Tunji-Ojo should focus on more pressing matters that demand accountability:

👉 Clarifying the controversies around his NYSC certificate.
👉 Providing transparency about the fraud cases hanging around his neck.
👉 Addressing doubts about his educational claims, including the questionable MSc from the University of London.

These are the real issues that will determine his future if Mr. President considers him again after 2027—not media propaganda or attempts to weaken Ondo APC for selfish ambitions.

We advise the Minister to face his official duties diligently and leave Ondo politics for now. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu knows those to call upon when the time for political decisions comes. No one should attempt to drag his name into needless battles that do not serve the collective interest.

Chief Idowu Akinnusi.

PoliticsTinubu: Coalition Calls For Recall Of Ondo Nddc's Atikase Over Mismanagement by Honbright(op): 8:32pm On Sep 03, 2025
OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU

From: Coalition of Concerned Observers for Accountability and Transparency in Governance

Subject: Urgent Demand for the Recall of Mr. Otito Atikase, Ondo State NDDC Commissioner, Over Mismanagement

Mr. President,

We, the undersigned representatives of the Coalition of Concerned Observers for Accountability and Transparency in Governance, write to you with grave concern regarding the Commissioner representing Ondo State in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Otito Atikase.

Our monitoring and feedback from the affected communities reveal a clear failure of leadership and accountability. Since assuming office, Mr. Atikase has not recorded any tangible achievements for his constituency. The people of Ondo State have continued to face neglect in critical areas of development despite the availability of NDDC resources.

Equally troubling are consistent reports indicating that public resources meant for community development have been diverted for personal gain. Such actions represent a betrayal of public trust and stand in sharp contrast to the values of transparency, responsibility, and service delivery that your administration promotes.

Mr. President, this situation threatens not only the welfare of the people of Ondo State but also the integrity of the NDDC as an interventionist agency. Allowing this to continue would further erode public confidence in governance and diminish the credibility of the APC-led government.

In the interest of accountability and in defense of the people, we therefore respectfully demand that you recall Mr. Otito Atikase without delay. Doing so will:
1. Protect the interests of the underserved communities in Ondo State.
2. Safeguard the integrity of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
3. Reinforce your administration’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance.

Mr. President, your decisive action at this moment will serve as a clear message that mismanagement of public resources will never be tolerated under your leadership, and that the welfare of the people remains paramount.

Respectfully,

Coalition of Concerned Observers for Accountability and Transparency in Governance

#RecallOtito

PoliticsFrom Prison Pots To Political Pots: Nigerians Demand Answers! by Honbright(op): 8:22pm On Sep 03, 2025
The recent wave of desperation being displayed in Ondo State by a serving Minister has raised serious concerns across the country. Observers believe that the fear of losing his ministerial position is the driving force behind this sudden and aggressive political spending.

This situation demands urgent scrutiny. Where exactly is Tinubu’s Minister sourcing the vast sums of money currently being deployed to push his agenda and secure his retention in office? Is this sudden spending spree based on legitimate personal resources, or could it be tied to government allocations under his care?

Most troubling are speculations linking these funds to the prison system. At a time when reports reveal that inmates are facing increasingly poor rations and stretched resources, how is it that the same Minister appears to have access to seemingly unlimited cash for political influence?

Nigerians must ask:
Is the welfare of prisoners being sacrificed for personal political survival?

Could public funds meant for critical institutions be diverted to bankroll political ambitions?

Why are essential services suffering while political expenditure thrives?

Who will hold the Minister accountable, and when will the truth be told?

Nigerians at large must demand clarity. Transparency is not optional — it is a duty. Federal resources cannot and must not be treated as personal war chests for political survival.

Until full disclosure is made, suspicion will continue to grow. The Nigerian people deserve accountability, fairness, and the truth.

Signed,
Concerned Citizens for Accountability.

PoliticsFRSC Awards Osun Officer For Rejecting Bribes 104 Times In July by Honbright(op): 7:41am On Aug 21, 2025
THE age-long stance of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) against corruption and extortion of motorists by its personnel was recently showcased by the FRSC Corps Marshal, Sheu Mohammed, mni, FCA, FCTI, CPFA, through the award of FRSC Management Commendation and a cash gift of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N250,000.00) to Assistant Route Commander Babatunde J Owoeye, a staff of the Osun State Sector Command of the Corps.

This is the outcome of a monthly performance assessment and reward initiative of the Osun State Sector Command that measures the productivity of its Officers on integrity operations and the enforcement of critical offences that have been identified by the Corps as being the major causes of Road Traffic Crashes, deaths and injuries on Nigerian roads.

The young Officer distinguished himself by staying above inducement from traffic offenders who offered bribes for him to overlook their offences.

Consequently, he singlehandedly recorded 104 “Attempt To Corrupt Marshal On Duty” (ACS) contraventions in the month of July 2025, the first of its kind in the history of the Command.

The Officer’s record in July is a climax from his previous performances in May and June 2025, when he recorded 18 and 38 ACS contraventions, respectively, which prompted the Osun State Sector Command to notify the FRSC National Headquarters, Abuja, of this extraordinary feat, which in turn attracted the Corps Marshal’s extraordinary acknowledgement and reward.

This recognition is sacrosanct, in view of its impact on the image of the Corps. Therefore, while presenting the Management Commendation Letter and cash gift to the young Officer and congratulating on behalf of the Corps Marshal, the Zonal Commanding Officer RS11 comprising Osun, Ondo and Oyo States, Assistant Corps Marshal Ibrahim Abubakar, pjsc, rss, fispon, MpA, MNIM, assisted by the Sector Commander of the Osun State Sector Command, Corps Commander Leye Adegboyega, fsi, encouraged the Officer to remain committed to positive image building and continue being a shining example for others to emulate.

The Sector Commander also admonished other Officers of Owoeye’s cadre to follow his path.

Going forward, the Command wishes to state its commitment to the discharge of its statutory duties and responsibilities, towards creating a safe motoring environment and minimizing Road Traffic Crashes on Osun State roads.

To this end, the Sector Commander charged motorists to be law abiding and desist from offering bribes to the personnel of the Corps as inducement to overlook traffic violations, adding that this will only make them to be less safety conscious and be more prone to getting involved in road crashes which the Corps is out to minimize and possibly eradicate.

The Sector Commander further said the Corps will soon commence the prosecution of all traffic offenders caught offering bribes to FRSC personnel, in addition to fining them the statutory Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000.00) penalty that the violation attracts in the schedule of FRSC traffic offences. Road safety, he said, is everybody’s business.

PoliticsScheme To Succeed Adetimehin As Ondo APC Chairman Thickens by Honbright(op): 7:37am On Aug 15, 2025
Bigwigs in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State are currently scheming to edge out the incumbent chairman of the party, Ade Adetimehin as his second term in office is winding up.

Members of the State Executive Committee would have to leave while another set of people would be chosen at the next congress of the party in the state.

Although the dates for the party’s congress and national convention have not been announced, aspirants have begun to lobby strong leaders of the party in preparation for the congress.

A strong member of APC disclosed that Adetimehin would remain in office till the next convention of the party, saying President Tinubu was not in support of Adetimehin’s removal before the congress.

Many aspirants, who are yet to make open their aspirations, have commenced intense lobbying and clandestine negotiations.

A number of members of the party in the state have stormed different social media platforms to promote their candidates, particularly for the coveted position of state chairman of the party.

At the moment, none of those suspected to be eyeing the chairmanship seat has made formal declarations.

Even though the state secretariat of the party is currently a ghost town as there are no tangible activities going on there, members of the party have resorted to canvassing support for their candidates at the grassroots ahead of the congress.

What would make the contest thick is the fact that some new members, who defected from the opposition party, have shown their intent to vie for some of the positions.

Though they are new entrants, they are bringing their political experiences, loyalty, and fresh ideas to play.

Meanwhile, as the countdown to the APC congress continues, the rumour is rife that Governor Aiyedatiwa would without doubt install his loyalists in the new executive committee, as he desires to take total control of the party ahead of 2027 general elections.

No doubt, some members of the state executive committee are spending their first term in the position, but their desire to return may hit the rock as their emergence was determined by the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

It would be recalled that the pre-election crisis that hit the state, which pitched loyalists of the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu against Aiyedatiwa back then as Deputy Governor, almost tore APC apart.

Even after Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as the substantive governor of the state when Akeredolu passed away, some chieftains of APC could not hide their grudge against the governor’s survival of the trumped up impeachable allegations.

It may seem too far, but political observers noted that it would be foolhardy to think Aiyedatiwa had so soon forgotten the psychic battle he went through with some handful conspirators who wanted him impeached to scuttle his ambition of becoming the governor of the state after Akeredolu.

Pundits insisted that Aiyedatiwa would merely portray himself as a political fry if he fails to take total charge of the structure of the party by ensuring his loyalists are installed as members of the party’s executive committee.

They stated that the governor would need to see how the party is run and be in the know of whatever decision the party would take.

According to one of them, “Does anyone think the man has forgotten what happened at the tail end when the late Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was on admission in the country?

“It’s possible he has a large heart to forgive, but I can bet it that he has not forgotten the fierce battle he faced from those who claimed to be Akeredolu’s favourites.

“Was it not obvious that what this crop of people were targeting was to abort the promise of Akeredolu that Aiyedatiwa would succeed him?

“Remember, if not for the intervention of some elders in this state, who spoke with President Tinubu, Aiyedatiwa would have been impeached based on the trumped up impeachable offences the state House of Assembly prepared.

“Unless he’s an upstart crow learning how to fly and decorate himself with other people’s feathers in the political circle that he would not seize the opportunity offered him by providence to take charge of the party’s structure for once.”

Besides, one of the analysts said the governor should be seen and heard while deciding on who occupies one position or another and who gets which ticket of the party for whatever elective position in the state.

However, with the changes in the state’s political landscape, several aspirants from the northern senatorial district of the state are positioning themselves as frontrunners for the chairmanship, but at present the coast is not yet clear on who would be the favourite of the governor among the aspirants.

Currently, there are about ten persons that are vying for the chairmanship, but it’s crystal clear that whoever would occupy the seat must have the backing of Governor Aiyedatiwa.

Historically, the pattern has shown that the decision of a sitting governor is pivotal in determining the next party chairman and executive members.

Besides, the leadership of the party, historically, is alternated among the three senatorial districts. At present, the northern district appears poised to reclaim the chairmanship.

The prevailing sentiment among party members is that the next chairman must be from the core progressive caucus, someone who can unite the party and avoid further internal strife, especially in light of perceived favouritism towards members who defected from other political parties.

As the APC approaches its congress and national convention, all eyes are on Governor Aiyedatiwa, who finds himself in a precarious position.

His decision on whom to support for the chairmanship would significantly impact his control over the party’s future direction.

The stakes are high, and the political maneuvering intensifies as the clock ticks down to the critical moment of decision-making.

Pundits are of the opinion that Governor Aiyedatiwa would opt for a moderate candidate susceptible to his influence and control from the party’s core progressives caucus.

None of them gave the governor a chance in the option of choosing a more independent-minded political veteran.

PYU International Youth Day Conference Angola 2025: NYCN VP Amb. Mukhtar Akoshile Demands End to Youth Marginalization in Global Affairs

The Vice President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (North Central Zone), Amb. Mukhtar Akoshile, who also doubles as the Coordinator of the Afro-Arab Youth Council (AAYC) West Africa Region, has led Nigeria official delegation to the PYU International Youth Day (IYD) 2025 Conference, held from 9th to 12th August, 2025 in Luanda, Republic of Angola.

The high-profile gathering, organized under the Pan-African Youth Union (PYU), convened youth leaders, policymakers, development partners, and civil society stakeholders from Africa, the Arab world, and beyond to deliberate on the theme: "Youth, Global Governance, and the Future of Development."

Amb. Akoshile chaired a strategic breakout session on "Youth and Global Governance", delivering an unflinching Nigerian perspective on the state of youth participation in global decision-making.

From the African Union Youth Summits to the United Nations Youth Assemblies, Nigerian youth have been active contributors to Agenda 2063, SDG 4, 8, and 16, and have influenced climate policy through COP negotiations and campaigns like Not Too Young To Run. But much of the time, youth representation at global governance tables is still symbolic — we are invited to speak, but not to decide. We are given the microphone, but not the vote,” he declared.

His remarks struck a chord with delegates, sparking a renewed call for substantive youth inclusion in governance processes at both continental and global levels.

Key outcomes from Nigeria’s participation included:

Strengthening diplomatic and institutional partnerships with youth organizations, UN agencies, and development bodies.

Securing commitments for post conference action plans to translate resolutions into measurable policies.

Raising Nigeria’s profile as a leading continental voice for youth empowerment and governance reform.

Reaffirming his commitment, Amb. Akoshile stated:

Our mission is clear Nigerian youth must not only be present at the table, but must also shape, vote on, and own the policies that define our future.

The Nigerian delegation’s success at PYU IYD 2025 cements the nation’s position as a major driver of youth leadership, governance reform, and continental cooperation.

PoliticsCall For Military Takeover In Nigeria, By Ondo APC Chairman, Engr. Adetimehin by Honbright(op): 9:36am On Aug 07, 2025
There’s growing outrage in Ondo State and beyond following disturbing revelations about the APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, who is alleged to have repeatedly called for a military takeover of Nigeria’s democratic government.

It started in 2022, right after the APC presidential primaries. Adetimehin, a staunch supporter of former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, had mobilized a team of Fayemi loyalists from Ondo state to Abuja in a bid to push his candidate through.

But when things didn’t go as planned and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerged as the party’s candidate, Adetimehin reportedly came back to Ondo fuming — and told his followers he wished the military would take over the country.

That wasn’t a one-time slip. Sources say he’s repeated this statement several times in closed-door meetings with his loyalists. These dangerous anti-democratic remarks continued even up until the moment he was suspended by his ward executives, with that specific allegation forming part of the reasons for his suspension.

That’s not all — during the primaries, Adetimehin was accused of hiding Ondo State delegates in a popular Abuja hotel, allegedly to block them from voting for Tinubu. Tinubu’s loyalists eventually discovered and exposed the scheme.

Now, party members and Nigerians at large are calling for accountability. Many believe Adetimehin’s statements are unconstitutional, reckless, and capable of undermining Nigeria’s democracy. The national APC leadership is being urged to take immediate action before such sentiments spread further.

So far, the Ondo APC chairman has not publicly denied or addressed these serious allegations.

In a time when democracy must be protected at all costs, calls for military rule — especially from a party leader — must not be taken lightly.

PoliticsAdetimehin Under Fire For Losing Elections In Idanre As APC State Chairman by Honbright(op): 9:43am On Aug 05, 2025
Adetimehin under fire for losing elections in Idanre as APC state Chairman

REPLY TO THE WATERY REJOINDER BY THOSE PLAYING HIDE AND SEEK GAMES

The media team of Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye, popularly known as Small Alhaji, has reviewed the recent write-ups from uninformed and irrelevant sources—dingbats and uneducated fellows—who have attempted to distract from the core issues at hand.

We expected a direct and substantive response from the office of the APC Chairman in Ondo State, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, but instead, we are met with evasive rejoinders that fail to address the critical questions raised.

Notably, the write-up attributed to Hon. Adefisoye does not even focus on the Chairman but rather highlights his contributions to Adetimehin’s political relevance and the subsequent betrayal he faced.

For clarity, we address the claim regarding Hon. Adefisoye’s change of ward.

As the largest landowner in Ala Ward, with one of the biggest factories in Idanre and his country home situated there, it is only logical for Hon. Adefisoye to transfer his voter’s card to this ward, eliminating the need to travel far to vote in Idanre.

More importantly, in the last gubernatorial election, Hon. Adefisoye not only won his polling unit and ward but also delivered Idanre for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

These facts underscore his commitment and electoral strength, contrary to the misleading narratives peddled by detractors.

We reiterate our call for a direct response from Engr. Ade Adetimehin himself, not from proxies or irrelevant commentators.

To ensure accountability, we pose the following questions regarding his leadership and electoral record in Idanre:

1. 2015 Elections:
As Deputy Chairman and APC leader in Idanre, Adetimehin was tasked with delivering the House of Assembly election but failed, amid allegations of rigging the primaries. In the House of Representatives primaries, he supported Famoritye and was resoundingly defeated.

Meanwhile, Hon. Adefisoye, as Director General, successfully delivered the House of Representatives and Senatorial elections in Idanre.

Why did Adetimehin fail to deliver the House of Assembly election, the only electoral loss in Idanre that year?

2. 2019 Elections:
As APC Chairman, Adetimehin oversaw losses in Idanre for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senatorial elections.

What were the reasons for these repeated failures under his leadership?

3. 2023 Elections:
With Adetimehin as Chairman, Idanre became the only local government in Ondo State where the APC lost both the House of Representatives and Senatorial elections.

Is it being suggested that Hon. Adefisoye, who delivered Idanre for the APC in the gubernatorial election, was responsible for the Senatorial election loss in Idanre?

4. Core Allegation:
Hon. Adefisoye has publicly challenged Engr. Adetimehin to deny the claim that he (Adefisoye) told Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu that he is the strongest political figure in Ondo State.

Can Engr. Adetimehin step forward and categorically address this allegation?

We will not be distracted by watery rejoinders or hide-and-seek tactics from those avoiding accountability.

The people of Idanre and Ondo State deserve clear answers from the APC Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin.

We urge him to come forward and address these questions directly, without further delay or reliance on irrelevant proxies.

PoliticsTension In Osun Accord Party Over Imposters by Honbright(op): 7:27am On Jul 15, 2025
There appears to be discord within the Osun State chapter of the Accord Party as the Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande and some of the expelled executives bicker over legitimacy of tenure.

This is as the former executives of the Accord Party in the state raised alarm over an illegitimate power grab by individuals allegedly posing as party leaders.

Addressing a press conference on Monday in Osogbo, the ex-leaders declared that the party has remained without a valid state executive council since March 2025, when the tenure of the previous officials lapsed.

Speaking on behalf of the former officials, Nasiru Bolarinwa, the immediate past State Secretary of the party, said, “I am here to brief the general public and party faithful about the current leadership vacuum in our respected political party, Accord in Osun. Since March this year, our tenure ended, and for over three months now, no executive has been appointed or elected to oversee the affairs of the party in the state.”

Bolarinwa stressed that the gathering was not in defiance of party rules but a necessary move to stop unauthorised individuals from claiming leadership roles.

He accused the immediate past Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, of continuing to parade himself as the current leader of the party in Osun.

“We want to use this medium to formally notify the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, INEC, the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigeria Police that Pastor Victor Akande is no longer the state chairman of the Accord Party. Any such claim or activity should be regarded as null and void,” he said.

Also, Yakub Olayinka, former Organising Secretary of the party, who reiterated that the state chapter is currently awaiting official communication from the national headquarters, urged all party members to refrain from recognising any individual claiming leadership authority in the state.

“We are all members of the party, and as it stands, no one should parade himself as state chairman. We urge all stakeholders to wait patiently for the green light from Abuja,” Olayinka added.

On the matter of party organisation and electoral strategy, Olayinka assured the public that Accord remains active and intends to reposition itself for upcoming political contests.

He said the party’s ambition remains undeterred by recent leadership issues.

“We are gathering strength. We believe strongly that Accord is poised for victory in the next Osun elections once we resolve these internal issues,” he said.

Oladapo Joseph, the former Treasurer lamented the leadership style under Pastor Akande.

He accused the former chairman of creating disunity and operating without transparency, which weakened the party’s foundations across local government areas.

“Under Pastor Akande, the party was run without unity or transparency. But we are not discouraged. We’re already working to rebuild trust and structure from the grassroots all the way to the national level,” Oladapo explained.

The former officials jointly called for calm among party supporters across the state.

They emphasised that any attempt to use the party platform for personal political gain would be challenged and resisted by lawful means.

“We call on all genuine Accord members to disregard any illegal meetings or pronouncements. Let us stand together until proper structures are restored,” Bolarinwa said.

They urged INEC and other relevant authorities to engage only with the national leadership until a new state executive council is constituted.

Reacting, the Osun Accord Party Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande in a message disclosed that the former executive members have been expelled from the party since August, 2024.

Pastor Akande also disclosed that theere have never been any vacuum in the party in the state because the National Secretariat of the party is aware she has directed that a caretaker committee be put in place for day to day administration.

“There has never been any vacuum in the state because before the expiration of our tenure we have written to the National about it and we have been asked to set up a caretaker for the day-to day running of the Party which we have done. I remain the Chairman of Accord Party (caretaker) until we conduct another Congress.

News Update

FEDERATION OF IFEDORE STUDENTS (FILGSU) DISSATISFIED OVER HON. BARR. TOPE AKOMOLAFE'S PERFORMANCE

There are moments when silence becomes a betrayal—not just of conscience, but of generations yet unborn. There are times when speaking up is no longer a political act, but a moral obligation. FEDERATION of Ifedore students Union (FILGSU) as the students body that embodies the welfare of the students of ifedore LGA are sincerely not satisfied with your achievement as the legislator representing IFEDORE constituency at the state assembly.

We live in a time where the truth is often traded for convenience, where many either from fear or favour—choose the shallow comfort of sycophancy over the hard labour of honesty. But we, cannot remain silent. Not because we seek applause, not because we harbour political ambition—far from it. We write because the burden of conscience has become too heavy to carry in silence.

We are not writing as a political group seeking a podium, nor as a rival coveting your seat. We are not moved by bitterness. We are writing as a body to express our dissatisfaction in your leadership as the voice of the constituency at the State House of assembly. You have failed to attend to the welfare of the students in the constituency. There's a total disconnection between you and the constituents. You are unresponsive to your constituents inquiries and concerns.

The union is also aware of your act of petitioning and arresting everyone that request for accountability and challenges your low performance. Openness and transparency helps to build public trust and also makes it easier to identify poor performance.

When you took office in 2023, you carried the weight of the people’s hopes. Many believed that change had finally arrived. They believed, perhaps naively, that a new season of purposeful leadership was at hand. But two years later, what we are witnessing in ifedore is not growth or transformation. It is regression.

We are writing this letter because we can no longer pretend that all is well. We can no longer be silent, because silence would mean complicity—and we are not complicit. This is not an act of disrespect. It is a reminder. A reminder of the oath you took. A reminder of the trust the people placed in you. A reminder of the vision you once claimed to champion.

The people are watching. The future is watching. And history will judge who stood up and who chose silence.

We have chosen not to remain silent.

After 9 Months Of Interview For Applicants, Osun Schools Still Suffer Shortage of Teachers

By Voice Air Media (VAM)

Going by the popular quote, "Education is the best legacy" reflects the idea that investing in knowledge and skills empowers individuals and fosters a more prosperous and informed society but reverse is the case in Osun state.

You will recall that an interview was conducted for the qualified applicants on Monday 9th to Friday 13th September, 2024, it has now become a season film without results for the past nine months, on this day, June 9, 2025.

On February 16, 2024, the Osun State Government under the leadership of Senator Ademola Adeleke approved the immediate recruitment of Five Thousand (5,000) teachers for both Primary and Secondary Schools and Two Hundred and Fifty (250) education officers in the State.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole, on July 31, 2024 said that the 5,000 teachers will be on ground when schools resume for the next academic session this month.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vuyZ3HlD3w?si=zEL1GUQIRnKbMnL2

The recruitment process involved the sale of application forms for the sum of Two Thousand Naira (N2,000.00), thirty-two thousand (32,000) applicants registered for the exercise.

The State Government realized a whopping sum of N64,000,000 (Sixty Four Million Naira Only) from the sales of the forms.

Twenty-nine thousand (29,000) applicants accessed the internet for the examination, while Twenty-Seven thousand (27,000) applicants sat for the examination.

It should be noted that the exercise lasted for two weeks, specifically from February 16 to February 30, 2024, and Thirty-Two Thousand (32,000) applicants applied in just two weeks, which points to the alarming rate of unemployment in the state.

You will also recall that in November 27, 2022, Governor Adeleke sacked 1,500 teachers recruited by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, for alleged lack of due process, and he promised to recruit more teachers as soon as possible.

While monitoring a radio program on Monday 28th April, 2025, tagged "Oro Oselu", the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Adejoorin Mayowa, while responding to questions on Teachers recruitment said, "very soon the State Government will employ the successful applicants".

PoliticsIdanre Pdp Rejects Hon. Festus Akingbaso’s "Kangaroo Empowerment" Scheme by Honbright(op): 12:54pm On Jun 09, 2025
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State has totally rejected the so called empowerment programme initiated by Hon. Festus Akingbaso, describing it as deceptive, politically motivated, and long overdue.

This reaction comes in the wake of Hon. Akingbaso’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a plenary session of the House of Representatives on May 28, 2025, without due process from his ward.

In what appears to be an attempt to lure loyal PDP members into joining him in the ruling APC, Hon. Akingbaso has launched a last-minute empowerment scheme. The party describes this move as a desperate and insincere attempt to revive his dwindling political relevance after cutting ties with the platform that nurtured and sustained his political career.

The PDP emphasizes that the empowerment items being distributed are part of the 2024 budget and are only now being disbursed clearly as a political bargaining tool. The party condemns this action as an exploitation of constituency resources for personal political gain and a betrayal of the trust placed in him by his constituents.

It is worth noting that out of a total of 201 PDP executives in Idanre Local Government, including 180 ward executives across 10 wards, 18 local government executives, and 3 state executives. Only 14 have expressed interest in following Hon. Akingbaso to the APC. This overwhelming lack of support reflects the party’s firm stand against opportunism and political insincerity.

The PDP in Idanre has consistently stood by Hon. Akingbaso throughout his political journey, supporting him through four successive elections, including as Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Member of the State House of Assembly, Member of the House of Representatives, and Deputy Governorship candidate. That he would now turn his back on the party that gave him a platform is deeply disappointing and demonstrates a lack of gratitude and integrity.

The PDP warns its members to remain vigilant and not be swayed by what it calls a "kangaroo empowerment" scheme. The party views this initiative as nothing more than a façade designed to deceive the people and undermine the enduring principles of loyalty, service, and accountability.
