In the bustling Arena of Ondo State public service, Nigeria, there lived a man named Gbenga Lasekan, whose life epitomized the virtues of patience and endurance. Gbenga's journey was not one of instant success or overnight triumphs, but rather a testament to the power of perseverance and steadfast determination.

As the head of department of pharmaceutical service ,Ministry of Health, Gbenga faced numerous challenges that tested his patience and resilience. Growing up in a crowded midst of those who pretend they love him, he learned early on the value of patience as he waited for his turn to use the communal well or patiently studied by the flickering light of a kerosene lamp.

Despite the obstacles that stood in his way, Gbenga remained unwavering in his pursuit of a better life. With each setback, he found the strength in God to persevere, knowing that every hardship was a stepping stone on the path to his dreams.

Gbenga's patience was put to the test as he worked tirelessly to excel in his career. Despite facing workplace and professional colleagues hardships , he refused to give up, dedicating countless hours to his performing attitudes and seeking out wisdom from God who could guide him along the way.

Through his patience and endurance, Gbenga eventually earned a victory over his enem(ies). But his journey was far from over. He remained humble and grounded, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and offering words of encouragement to those facing their own struggles.Through his example, Gbenga inspired others to embrace patience and endurance as virtues worth cultivating. He showed them that success was not a sprint, but a marathon, and that with perseverance and determination, anything was possible

Gbenga's legacy lives on as a testament to the power of patience and endurance in the face of life's challenges.

His story serves as a reminder that no matter how daunting the road ahead may seem, with patience, perseverance, and unwavering determination, we can overcome any obstacle and achieve our dreams.

Osun Speaker Aides Beat Me While Carrying Out Court Order – Lawyer Alleges

THE security operatives attached to the Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly have been alleged of brutalizing and assaulting a lawyer, Barrister Yusuf Adeshina, while attempting to execute a court order at Technical Area, opposite Landero Filling Station.




Adeshina, who narrated the ordeal said while executing court judgment for occupants of the land to vacate the premises, the Osun State Speaker arrived the scene he told them that he had spoken with the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) who instructed them to vacate the premises.




He said the security aides attached to the Speaker attacked him when the Speaker asked if he is mad for pointing fingers at him.




He said, “He shouted that we should leave the place, because those people were hailing him, I cautioned him that his action is not well guided, I gesticulate by pointing my fingers at him. He said I am mad for point finger at him, before I knew it, his aides including the security started beating me. He supervised the assault on myself and the court court bailiff.




“We went to execute order of the court this morning around Technical area opposite Landero filling station, we had a judgment of court and we were there as been directed by the court, the people on the land were already compiling with the order, some were already vacating the land.




“However, some of them said they know the Osun State Speaker and Dupe, they bragged that we cant do anything for them.




“Few minutes later, the Speaker arrived the scene with his convoy, he opposed to our action on the land. He told the policemen that I want including the bailiff to vacate the place and not to seal the place. He told the policemen and the civil defence corps at the scene that he had called one DCP and we must leave the place immediately.




“I approached him, I introduced myself that I am the lawyer, I told him that he is been misguided by those people at the place.




“He shouted that we should leave the place, because those people were hailing him, I cautioned him that his action is not well guided, I gesticulated by pointing my fingers at him. he said I am mad for point finger at him, before I knew it, his aides including the security started beating me. he supervised the assault on myself and the court bailiff.



“He told them to beat me very well,” he revealed.

NBA React

Reacting, the Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA), Osogbo branch condemned the incident.




The Chairman, NBA, Osogbo branch, Barrister Yemi Abiona described action of the Speaker on the legal practitioner as an insult and assault on the judiciary.




He said, “We condemn the action of the Speaker, it is impunity. For a lawyer and a bailiff who are executing court order to be assault and harassed by the head of an Arm of government,




“We are going to do everything possible to make sure that our right, that of our members and integrity of court is maintained, we cant be folding our arms and watch this recklessness and abuse of power,” he added.




However, Tiamiyu Olamide, the Spokesperson to Osun State Speaker, said his principal never assaulted anyone at the scene of incident.



He said, “The speaker never assaulted anyone at the scene. The speaker was called this morning by some residents that some people were at their place to forcefully eject them from a land, he drove down to the scene, when he got there he was discussing with the leader of police officers at the operation.




“The Speaker called to a senior officer who is not at the scene and handed the phone to the officer on duty at the scene, after that they withdrew from the scene.




“After that, some of the occupants were trying to mob a guy and our chief detail took the man inside our car, so that they can’t touch him. They left with him to protect him and dropped him around State Government House so as to find his ways. It is a blatant lie, the Speaker never address any civilian.”

Ondo state Government has announced packages for newly deployed National Youth Corps Members to the state.

Governor Aiyedatiwa who did not disclose the amount, made the declaration at the Swearing – In – Ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) of Corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare Akoko, on Tuesday.

The Governor promised to rehabilitate the facilities at the NYSC Camp, including provision of Solar-powered light.

He enjoined the new Corps members to dedicate themselves and brace up for the task ahead as they will be exposed to daunting but fulfilling challenges of national development.

Aiyedatiwa reiterated the determination of his administration to adequately cater for their welfare and security throughout their service year in the State.

“As we therefore induct you into the national service of our dear Country today, you face a greater challenge to prove that the future of our Country and coming generations would be secured in your hands.

“This is why you must rededicate yourselves to the task of bringing about positive changes in your various assignments.”

The Governor reiterated that his administration will continue to support NYSC at all times to ensure Corp members have a memorable year in Ondo State.

Speaking after an inspection of the camp, the Governor said: “The area is clean, disinfect the bathroom and toilet but they are old, some kind of renovation needs to be done and that is what we are going to do.

“Electricity is also one of their problems and we will try to deploy solar light across the entire camp so that at night the area can be bright and for the hostels, we will see what we can do.”

THE Osun State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill to establish the State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission in the state.


This was revealed in a statement by Olamide Tiamiyu, the spokesperson to the speaker of the Osun Assembly, the bill was passed into law on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, after the third reading of the bill by the house and a consequent voice vote.


The Speaker of the House, Adewale Egbedun then directed the clerk, Mr Simeon Amusan, to prepare the clean copy of the bill for Mr Governor’s assent.


The Bill consists of 58 clauses and will provide a legal framework to fighting corruption in the state.


The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun expressed his confidence in the Bill, stating that it provides necessary tools to fight corruption and promote accountability in the State.

The House later adjourned, sitting to Monday, 8th July, 2024.

At the political engagement workshop held on June 27, 2024, via Cyberspace, had renowned architect and humanitarian, Gbenga Adene, who call for better leadership in Ondo State.



Adene highlighted three key points that he believes are essential for good leadership. Firstly, he emphasized the need for leaders who will put the masses first, citing Dr. Olusegun Mimiko as an example; “infrastructure in Health, Education, and other provisions, that met the people’s need”



“A good leader will prioritize the needs of the people, not their own personal interests,”





“The former Governor Dr. Mimiko engaged with local communities to understand their needs, and that’s the kind of leadership we need in Ondo State.”

“We need leaders who will not prioritize personal glory or gratification over the needs of the people.”



Lastly, Adene encouraged citizens to scrutinize leaders before casting their votes.



“We need to look at a leader’s antecedents, their policies, and their actions. We need to ask ourselves if they truly care about our well-being,”



“We must not vote based on accomplishments, influence, sentiment or emotion, but on the merit and credibility of the candidate.”

“White-elephant projects should be abandoned, but projects that benefit the masses should be completed,”



“We need to demand accountability from our leaders and ensure that they prioritize our needs.”



Adene also addressed the issue of politicians using the same strategy which is people’s pain points for political campaign.



“Politicians use our pain points to get our votes, but they don’t care about our well-being. We need to be entrepreneurs, we need to be self-employed,”




They know that many people look up to the government, which is why they leverage that to get our attention. We need to open our eyes, just like those Nigerians who were once fervent in prayer but no longer pray about certain matters since they travelled abroad because they realized that some things do not require prayers, but rather work and good governance,”



“We must not rely on politicians for solutions, but take charge of our own destiny.”



Adene’s points resonated with the audience, who expressed appreciation for his honesty and guidance. As Ondo State prepares for the upcoming election, Adene urged the citizens to demand for better leadership and hold leaders accountable.

As November 16th, 2024 Gubernatorial election approaches faster, it is necessary we begin to scrutinize who the main political actors are and what they offer.

In this matter of discussion, I will discuss on their personalities, chances of winning and their party strength,
especially the two major contenders in the race with the broom in the hand of the Governor, Excellency Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the umbrella in the other hand of the leading opposition the former Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi.

Ondo state is unarguably now a defacto two-party state.

The APC and the PDP are the true mammoths of the state's political landscape. As November 16th approaches fast, the question everyone is asking is: Is there any difference between the APC and the PDP? Aren’t both parties the same?


These questions are not without reason. I mean incidences of either parties members “defecting” everyday to the other has been easier than opening a sachet of noodles.


However from observation since the birth of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) in Nigeria, on 6th February, 2013, while in 2015 presidential election, the party takes over power from the People's Democratic party PDP at the federal level, and also in the following year, 2016 the party has been the ruling party in Ondo state, till date.

Recalled three years after the APC was founded, in Ondo state, the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu became first APC man to win in Ondo State as Governor, He won with 244, 842 votes defeating Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, who polled 150, 380, in the November 26th, 2016 Gubernatorial election, and the total number of votes cast was 580,887.

While, on April 19th, 2003, late Olusegun Agagu won election for a first tenure with 655,968 votes as a People's Democratic party (PDP) Man, defeating AD Incumbent Governor, Adebayo Adefarati who picked 233,900 votes, while the total number of registered voters in the state was 1,504,181.

I have seen that both parties are not the same. They are neither better nor worse than each other, yet they are still not the same.

The key difference I see between both parties is in terms of their party structure and decision making process.

In the APC, we all agree that there are too many godfathers. And it’s safe to say that a higher caucus comprised of godfathers determine how decisions are taken at the APC; Bola Tinubu decides for the South West, even before he emerged as the number one citizen of the country, Nigeria and a whole lot of other shadow figures.

So, decision-making is less chaotic in the APC, but the case is totally different in Ondo state since 2016, Late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was never a product of the 'godfather Tinubu' both in his first and second term as governor under APC in the state.

But in the PDP, things are more chaotic. The PDP comprises of the most ambitious politicians Nigeria has ever seen.

And each has to vie for power or lose out to the others, from Atiku who claimed the Almighty Man in the PDP at National and Federal at the moment, and Wike who claimed the foundational and founding Chieftain of the party in the Southern Zone; also from Eyitayo Jegede(2016) to Eyitayo Jegede (2020), but again in this 2024 Gubernatorial election, the case is different in respect to the 'traditional' zoning arrangements with the birth of Agboola Ajayi, the PDP seems to be an easier ground for politicians to compete and grow. Now a former Deputy Governor under APC and former ZLP candidate, now he’s a key decider in the affairs of the Ondo PDP. This somewhat “zero-sum game” situation ensures that decision making in the PDP cannot easily be traced to godfather but can be hijacked by big personality.


Yet decisions are not being made easily. Decisions are made only after complex negotiations, and usually involve different power brokers. We’ve seen the PDP behave this way in the 2024 decides.

However, the deal making and negotiations in the APC has been a key reason why the party is in the fore front of the November 16th 2024 election. Too many cooks they say spoils the meal, as the party had picked the Incumbent Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who happened to be the most experienced incumbency candidate, a former Deputy Governor and a former acting Governor under the APC party, among all others.

And with the settling of the APC primary saga whereby, the all time governorship contestant Olusola Oke backs the Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa and order his structure to work for the APC candidate, unlike the two-time governorship candidate of the PDP, Eyitayo Jegede who didn't participate in their party primary and he hasn't officially or publicly collapsed his structure in the party for the PDP candidate Agboola Ajayi; Is Ondo PDP resorting to old ways again, where party members voted against their candidate in the 2020 governorship as their Flagbearer lost 15 out of the state’s 18 local government areas, as marriage of campaign and canvasing for votes and politicking tactics are ongoing.

C'mon, where else would the winner of the November 16th, 2024 poll comes from;
(A). The Incumbent who is the number one citizen of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa with less than six months in office and whose supporters are chanting "Ondo state Dirorun, Ondo state Datiwa", or (A). Ex-candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Agboola Ajayi, with the chanting of "Agbo", who came a distant third in 2020 governorship election by scoring 69,127 votes(12.1 percent), out of a total of 572,745 valid votes in the election.

Reflecting on the journey that has prepared Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State for his current role is almost redundant, as his extensive experience speaks for itself.

His Excellency, Aiyedatiwa has previously distinguished himself in several capacities: He was the APC candidate for Ilaje/Ese-Odo federal constituency in 2015, served as a commissioner of the Niger Delta Development Commission, and occupied the seat of Deputy Governor from 2021 to 2023 under the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. These roles have undeniably prepared him for his current leadership position as the incumbent governor of Ondo State.

Governor Aiyedatiwa has inherited a legacy of quality leadership and selfless service from his predecessor.
While, His achievements in his first 100 days in office are noteworthy. They include; Grant's to young entrepreneurs (₦30M), training 618 young people in tech skills, payment of WAEC fees for secondary school students (₦550M), loans to traders, artisans, and SMEs (₦220M), recruitment of teachers, construction of rural roads across the state (₦3.4B), rehabilitation of 60km of roads across the state, and recruitment of 650 health workers. These accomplishments demonstrate that Governor Aiyedatiwa has indeed hit the ground running.

Ondo State, known for its hospitality and peaceful people, continues to thrive under his leadership. Following his initial successes, Governor Aiyedatiwa has distributed Tricycles to farmers, increased grants to young entrepreneurs from ₦30M to ₦60M, proposed the construction of two new technical colleges to promote skill acquisition, intervened in the Ikare Central Mosque saga, distributed 1,200 tonnes of palliative grains to livestock farmers, enhanced lighting in the state capital (Alagbaka to Igbatoro Road), supported efforts to restore electricity to Ondo South, unveiled an e-learning platform for youth training.

Also, He has rehabilitated water facilities, recruited 165 ODIRS staff, addressed unemployment and created more jobs, cleared salary arrears of ex-political office holders after seven years, deployed more buses for free shuttle services for school pupils, protected border communities, commissioned a power substation in Ondo South, declared support for a new generation of farmers and boosted the economy with cocoa production, donated relief materials to 300 Akure North residents affected by a rainstorm, commenced the Oda Road dualization project, awarded wage increases to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal, initiated the construction of a concrete walkway and jetty at Obe-nla, Ilaje, and ensured the prompt payment of workers' salaries.

Governor Aiyedatiwa has emphasized the importance of attracting local and foreign investments to boost the economy and create jobs, stating, "We'll offer incentives to attract local and foreign investments to boost our economy. Creating jobs is of paramount importance to my administration."

With the upcoming November 16th, 2024 gubernatorial election, as the APC candidate, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa appears ready to continue addressing the state's challenges. His efforts signal a renewed hope for economic and social progress in Ondo State.

In closing, I leave Governor Aiyedatiwa with the words of former NBA basketball player Michael Jordan: "Earn your leadership every day."

This, I presume is fitting for Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the new face of governance in Ondo State, Nigeria, as he carves out his own niche.

Passengers were delayed along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, because of the heavy downpour of rain, on Thursday, June 6

Voice Air Media reports that many who left Lagos state from Berger axis, Magodo and others around 3;30pm had their movement delayed beyond normal because of the effect of the flood on the Long bridge axis of the road.

Our Correspondent who witnessed the scene narrated with a video clip of the situation report on the road.

Passengers whom we contacted lamented the slow movement of vehicle which delayed the speed at which their vehicles could have covered.

This newspaper recalls that the repair of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to the level it is now took government about 23 years, with millions of naira of tax payers money.

"If the flood continues like as a result of possible Implication due to heavy downpour,(climate change related), road user along this route may still go back to square zero. It is very sure before long, the bridge will need repair or a total reconstruction," Eyewitness said.

THE ruling People's Democratic party (PDP) has suffered another setback as Osun All progressive party (APC) Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, has received the Elemo Aga of Ikirun Oluomo Chief Bamidele Onifade and his loyalists in Irepodun Local Government.

The decampees include; Chief Bamidele Onifade, Oladosun Kamorudeen aka Ultimate, Wasiu Oluaye, others and their loyalists.

Receiving the decampees and their mass supporters in Ikirun, on Wednesday, Osun APC Chairman Hon. Tajudeen Lawal declared that he prayed to God, and one of the answered prayer is Chief Bamidele Onifade.

THE Kelebe-Omu Landowners Association has cautioned members of the public against buying plots of land belonging to them.

The landowners under the leadership of Chief Amodu Akanbi also called on the government to mandate greater punishment on a group of people since the issue is now in contempt of court.

The landowners association, comprising 45 family compounds in Osogbo and Olorunda local government areas of Osun State, issued this warning during a press conference held at the palace of the Ataoja, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024.

Voice Air Media recalls that Kelebe-Omu Landowners in suit Number HOS/40/20, against the Attorney General of the Federation, Minister of Defence, Post-Service Housing Development Limited, the Nigeria Army and the Chief of Army Staff, alleged that the acquisition of the land by the defendants was unconstitutional and illegal.

However, the Osun State High Court sitting in Ile-Ife presided by Justice A.O Ayoola on January 10, 2023, instructed the defendants to vacate the 3,646 acres of land belonging to Kelebe-Omu landowners and ordered them to pay a sum of N200 million to the land owners for the destruction of their land.

In response to contempt of the Court, Kelebe-Omu landowners on February 13, 2024, staged a peaceful protest to the Osun State government Secretariat and State House of Assembly to demand the intervention of both the state and federal government against the alleged lawlessness of the Nigerian Army.

At the Assembly, lawmakers promised that the issue would be looked into and a peaceful resolution arrived at.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, Chief Akanbi who said there was a need for the intervention of higher authority, added that the association plans to expose the constant disobedience of the Nigerian Army to court judgements and the rule of law.

“Despite the Court judgment in our favour, the defendant, Nigerian Army, in the case of disputed land situated at Kelebe-Omu area has embarked on contempt of the Court four consecutive times within fifteen months.

“As we speak, the Post-Service Housing Development Limited incorporated by the Nigerian Army to manage the said land is selling it plot-by-plot with the sum of N7.5 million for 500sqm and N15 million for 1000sqm to private individuals upon purchase of a Post-Service Housing Scheme Military Application Form for N10,000 from its Osogbo office.

“Recently, the defendant, “POST-SERVICE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT LIMITED” Incorporated by the Nigerian Army to manage the land placed an advertorial banner to continue the unlawful layout of the land into the residential estate and sold same plot-by-plot to private individuals upon purchase of a Post-Service Housing Scheme Military Application Form for a fee.

“The said company, in the name of the Nigerian Army, had been issuing permits at agreed prices to members of the public for sand/gravel digging and haulage; construction of fish ponds; farming camps; hewing and haulage of firewood; palm oil prospecting, collection of levies, ‘Isakole’ (tributes) like oil, palm-wine, yams and kola nuts; felling of trees and sawmilling them into timber logs and planks; destruction of kola nut and palm trees within the said land.

“As we speak, if any of you sitting here wants to buy land from the Nigerian Army for your private or commercial use, it would be sold to you illegally by the agent of the Nigerian Army. Our land is being sold plot-by-plot in the sum of N7.5 million for 500sqm and N15 million for 1000sqm to private individuals upon purchase of a Post-Service Housing Scheme Military Application Form for N10,000 from its Osogbo office including a non-refundable processing fee of N100,000 and N150,000 respectfully into a Zenith bank account number 1013309582.”

However, in an earlier reaction, the Nigerian Army said it has appealed the judgment ordering the service to relinquish possession of 3,646 acres of land located between the Kelebe area and Omu Stream in Osogbo/Olorunda Local Government Areas of Osun State.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement in February 2024, said the service has filed an appeal to overturn the high court decision in Osun at the Akure Division of the Court of Appeal.

Onyema maintained that following the appeal, all parties are advised to maintain the status quo till the appellate court delivers its verdict on the matter.

The Ataoja of Osogbo land, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji in his appeal called on the state and federal governments to intervene to forestall protests and unnecessary violence.

He also reiterated the earlier warning that interested parties should refrain from buying any part of the disputed land as doing so would be in contempt of court.

Jare Tiamiyu, said it's necessary to saveguard development at the grassroots level in Osun local government, and of the 774 local government areas of the country, Voice Air Media reports.

According to him, "the project targets four key pillars, which are; accountability, civic engagement, grassroots development, and good governance, and are aimed at addressing the challenges facing local governments in the State and prove solutions to future of the council areas.

The Pathologist has told the coroner inquest that the cause of late music star, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad’s death could not be ascertained, as the autopsy was conducted after his body had decomposed.




This was revealed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wahab shittu after the Coroner inquest sitting on Wednesday, in Lagos.




Mohbad died at the age of 27, on September 12, 2023, with circumstances surrounding his death sparking controversies on social media.




A former record label signee of Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley, Mohbad left the label in February 2022.




The Lagos State Police Command had, on September 18, 2023, inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe the singer’s death.




His death also led to the arrest of Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, among others.




The singer’s body was on September 21, 2023, exhumed for autopsy.

THE Osun State Police Command has arrested one Adeniyi Sunday, a manager of one of the First Bank branches in Osogbo, Osun state capital.

In a public announcement made available on Tuesday to this newspaper, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Umar Abba disclosed that Adeniyi, who resides at Army Barracks Area, Kelebe, Iragbiji road, Osogbo, is a serial fraudster and dupe.

Adeniyi, it was alleged was engaged in fraud, obtaining money under false pretence to the tune of N650.8 million.

The statement signed by the Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola reads, “The Osun State Police Command under the leadership of CP Mohammed Umar Abba in its efforts to rid off criminal elements from the State has arrested a serial fraudster one Adeniyi Sunday Talabi ‘m’ 47 years, a resident of Army Barracks Area, Kelebe, Iragbiji road, Osogbo, a manager in one of the First Bank PLC branches in Osogbo for an offence of fraud, Obtaining money under false pretence (OBT), Conversion and Stealing amounting to the sum of six hundred and fifty million eight hundred and fifty thousand naira only (N650, 850,000) in an illegal product called PROOF of FUNDS which involved a total number of thirty five (35) victims (people).

“It is worthy to note that the said suspect has been suspended by the First Bank Nigeria Plc his former employers.

Kidnappers struck again on the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road on Sunday evening, killing a driver following sporadic shooting, while three occupants of a car were abducted and four passengers sustained gunshot injuries.

The incident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. at Longe village, not too far from Cocoa Research Institute of Nigerian (CRIN) at Idi Ayunre in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Information gathered had it that the kidnappers, who had laid ambush, came out and started shooting sporadically when they sighted an approaching vehicle.

The kidnappers’ shot hit an unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla car, a Toyota Sienna with registration number Lagos KSF 387 YE and a Mazda 6 car with registration number Lagos AKD 08 JB — leading to the death of the Mazda car’s driver, gunshot injuries to two female and two male occupants in the Sienna bus and abduction of three males in the Toyota Corolla car.

The driver of the Mazda car, later identified as Abiodun Emmanuel Omotoye, and that of Sienna bus, were said to have made spirited efforts to escape from the kidnappers’ attack, causing their being shot at.

The owner of the Mazda car, however, survived the attack as he came out of the car unscathed, though visibly shaken, a credible source who craved anonymity told Newsman.

The kidnappers, who must have assumed the occupants were dead, with the speed it swerved off the road into the bush and the distance it went, ignored the Mazda car and went with the two victims, it was said.

One of the female passengers in the Sienna vehicle was said to have sustained bullet injury in her chest region, while the other woman was shot in the arm.

A man in the bus also sustained gunshot in the arm, while the second man sustained injuries from the shattered glass of the vehicle.

The Sienna driver, who escaped the gunshots, reportedly drove them to the hospital inside CRIN, but it was learnt that the doctors there said that they could not handle the injuries, thereby referring them to another hospital.

This newspaper learnt that the injured victims were eventually taken to a private hospital (name withheld) where they have been receiving medical attention.

Much later, when the shootings were no longer heard and the atmosphere had regained calmness, residents around the village alerted the police.

The alert brought police operatives from Idi Ayunre Division, led by the divisional police officer, and those of Operation Burst to the scene, from where they discovered the dead body of the Mazda car driver strapped to his seat in the bush.

Bullet holes were found in the windscreen directly facing the driver, the door on the driver’s side and the one at his back.

Though initially, blood was not seen around the car, when the car was brought out from the bush and the body of the killed driver retrieved, it started gushing from his side where bullets hit him.

After scanning the nearby bush, the police saw the Toyota Corolla car with bullet holes in its bonnet and no one inside. The vehicle was taken to the police station.

The abducted men, whose names were given simply as Gbenga, Segun and Emma, were said to have been coming from Olunde on their way to a yet-to-be-ascertained destination when they ran into the kidnappers.

It was learnt that the families of the victims had been contacted, with a demand for N35 million as ransom.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Oyo State, Adewale Osifeso, said investigation is ongoing while update will be provided accordingly.

THE Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC has postponed the local government election to July 13, 2024.

While addressing pressmen and representatives of participating political parties and other stakeholders in Akure, the ODIEC Chairman, Joseph Aremo posited that the election billed for Saturday, 17th February, 2024 had to be postponed in tune with the provisions of extant laws from where the election guidelines get footing.

“We can’t conduct the election for ourselves, we will only conduct the election when parties comply with the guidelines, when we have valid nominations, when parties and their candidates turn up for verification and others, things that are required as may be specified by our guideline and the enabling laws.”

He said some of these provisions of the election guidelines have not been heeded and as a result the election had to be postponed.


The ODIEC boss said the decision is to ensure that the election reflects the aspirations of the electorate.

“Therefore the commission having met and appraised this situation, came up with this decision, that the election is further rescheduled as contained in the activity for the conduct of election to the 18LGAs and 33 LCDAs of Ondo State and that the new election date is for the election into the office of Chairmanship and Councilorship to be fixed and to be conducted on Saturday, 13th of July, 2024.”

With the new adjustment to the election time table, political parties now have between Monday, 13th May, to Monday 3rd June, 2024 to conduct their primary elections.

According to the commission Submission of forms and list of candidates will close on Tuesday, 1st June, 2024, followed by campaigns on Wednesday, 5th June, 2024, which would close on midnight of Thursday 11th July, 2024.

The Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC ), Osun Command , has called for the concerted efforts of transport stakeholders in the state to help reduced road traffic deaths and injuries, Voice Air Media (VAM) News reports.

The Sector Commander , Mr Inyang Umoh , who gave the charge on Thursday in Osogbo on the sideline of a- day stakeholders meeting with transport unions , said the need for road users to be safety conscious and safety cautioned becomes paramount.

The theme of the event is entitled " Accomplished 5 per cent reduction in road traffic deaths and injuries."

Umoh said some motorists are in the habit of transporting petroleum products in jericans while on highways without taking cognizance of the dangers involved.

He warned that the command under his watch will ensure offenders when apprehended are dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land.

He further said all efforts are in place with the collaboration of transport stakeholders to ensure that road ordinance are complied with by motorists to avoid any calamity or emergencies.

"We are appealing to road users to do away with one way traffic and also transporting animals with passengers while on wheels .

"The command will not hesitate to deal with any offenders apprehended violating raid traffic rules ," Umoh said .

According to him, there are so many reports of casualties as a result of one way traffic by both okada riders and motorists.

He advised road users and articulated vehicles owners including motorcyclists to get their driver's license intact in order to avoid been arrested and prosecuted.

2027: Adegoriola Adewale Steve names Ayodele Adedayo Oromidayo Paxtol as DG Campaign Management

The House of Representatives aspirant for Akure North and South Federal constituency, Hon. Adegoriola Adewale Steve, has named Ayodele Adedayo Oromidayo, popularly known as Paxtol as campaign manager for the upcoming 2027 Electioneering campaign.

His appointment was contained in a short statement by Hon. Adegoriola, who said the development is with immediate effect.

The convener of Adegoriola Progressive Movement (APM), and aspirant of the House of Representatives, Akure North/South Federal constituency, in Ondo state, Hon. Adegoriola Adewale Steve, has distance his involvement in any political party campaign poster, revealed he has not decided on the platform (political party) to contest for the 2027 election.

In a statement released by him on Friday, Adegoriola advised supporters who are in the habit of making campaign posters with a political party affiliation without his consent to please stop henceforth.

Adegoriola, who is one of the frontrunners in the race, stated that he is not part of any campaign poster sharing on social media.

“Let it also be known that my intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat of Akure North/South Federal constituency is not born out of desperation but out of love and genuine desire to enthrone a new Akure, that all of us will be proud of, meanwhile, I have not decided on the political party platform to use for the election."
