BEING A TEXT OF PRESS PRESENTED BY THE NANCES NATIONAL PRESIDENT, COMRADE AMINU HABIBU ON THE STATE OF FCET POTISKUM AND THE NEED TO SUBSTANTIATE DR. MADU MUHAMMAD YUNUSA AS THE PROVOST OF THE COLLEGE

Gentlemen of the Press,
Please permit me to welcome you wholeheartedly to this maiden press conference by the National President of the National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES).
Federal College of Education (tech) Potiskum is one of the prestigious college of education in Nigeria, it is located in the heart of Potiskum, Yobe state and it was established in 1988 with Dr.Abdu Bulama as the pioneer provost.

Federal College of Education Technical Potiskum ever since then have been witnessing tremendous development day in and day out and have been one of those colleges that have been producing quality teachers for the benefits of the teaming populance of Nigeria.
Dr. Madu Muhammad Yunusa became the acting Provost of the College on 24th June 2021 after the expiration of the tenure of the former provost who also did tremendously well towards the development of the college with the support and assistance of Dr. Yunusa who happened to be his Deputy Provost then and now the acting provost along other management staff the college.

Since his assumption to the office as the acting Provost of the college he prioritize the students welfare and also operate an open door policy where by the students enjoy one of the most management cum students friendly administration. With Dr. Yunusa on the mantle our students enjoy one of the most peaceful environment for teaching and learning. The National Association of the Nigerian colleges of Education after thoroughfull investigation had come to a conclusion that substantiating Dr. Yunusa as the provost of the above name college is just putting a square peg in a square hole or an act of giving the right job to the right person.

Here are some but few among his achievements within the little time on the mantle of leadership as the Acting provost.

1- rehabilitation and renovation of one of the college dilapidated students hostel

2- remodelled and renovated the college clinic to meet the National Health insurance Scheme Standard

3- Successful hosting of the re-accreditation/accreditation of old/new programmes in the college both for NCE and degree affiliation program.

4- Road networking in the college

It is in lieu of the above mention development, that the National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) as the umbrella body of all students in Colleges of Education in Nigeria and a body that works asidiously with the interest of its members (the Students). The NANCES charter of demand had orchestrated the national executive and the legislative arms of the association to work in conformity with any situation that will foster to growth of our colleges of education while considering factors that will promote the welfare and well-being of our students, it's because of that, we are committed and take a vow ourselves on paving ways to our students to continue enjoying a lasting peaceful and progressive colleges of education in Nigeria.

Base on that The body is now using this medium to call on President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, the Honourable Minister of Education, National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and the Governing Council of Federal College of Education Technical Potiskum to please see it as matter of necessity to substantiate this man that possess the characteristics and qualities of a patriotic citizens who believes in the cost of service to humanity with the meager available resources, a man that achieve alots in a short period of time that is none but Dr. Yunusa, we urge on all the relevent stakeholders to take it, into cognisant a man who students and staff of the set college are singing his praises of achievements and good deeds since assumption to office as the acting Provost of the College, we want to stress that in as much as the Colleges are established because of the students and a peaceful atmosphere is all we required for effective teaching and learning.

Dr. yunusa is the right cap for FCET potiskum, Yobe state, who is currently the acting Provost, we believe if he was confirmed as the substantive Provost one can not imagine the level of development the college would record in few years that he will spend in the college as the provost.

In addition, we want to reiterate and categorically state that Dr. Yunusa is the general interest of the students of FCET Potiskum and National Executives of the National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) in totality.

Equally it's at this note we want to also appreciate the Executive Secretary of NCCE Prof. Paulinus for all his gain and strategic efforts for our Colleges to take their rightful places in the center of our national educational policy since his assumption as Executive Secretary and for that we want to affirm our loyalty while reassuring him of our continuous support and commitment towards the development and upliftment of our colleges of Education.

Further more we want to call on our students to be peaceful, law abiding as we have all the necessary backup of our relevant agencies and stakeholders who let their doors open and ready to listen and act on our greaviances, again I want to stress that NANCES under watch we will not take it lightly with any agency that would try to sideline or marginalise our colleges of education in any of the government education policy.

I close by appealing once again to all sand and sundry to please confirm Dr. Yunusa as the substantial Provost of the Federal college of education technical potiskum for the consolidation and continuity of his good work.

Thank you.

CrimeREPORT: Late Timothy Adegoke’s Autopsy Result Surfaces by Honbright(op): 10:59am On Dec 16, 2021
Recall that in November, a student of Obafemi Awolowo University Timothy Adegoke died under mysterious circumstances at Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Coroner’s inquest has linked Timothy Adegoke’s death to trauma on the night of 5th November, 2021 due to ‘severe traumatic injuries.’

Our source exclusively obtained the autopsy report from an impeccable source who did not want to be named.

The report says there was no natural disease in the deceased’s body to cause or accelerate death or to cause him to collapse (and die).

The autopsy, however, shows that pathologists could not pin down the actual cause of his death because of his body’s ‘advanced decomposition’ before the inquest was done.

It was discovered that Timothy died of trauma as a result of excesses Marathon sex.

There have been insinuations that the deceased was killed for ritual purposes, but the autopsy report shows that his internal and sensitive exterior organs are intact.

The autopsy was conducted by three professors, seven professional pathologists by W.A. Oluogun (Consultant Pathologist) and P.O. Towoju (Senior Resident Doctor), in the presence of Timothy family and Hilton hotel owners representatives.

Timothy younger brother Adegoke Olugbade also witnessed the exercise.

Failure of the inquest to pinpoint the cause of Adegoke’s death might have contributed to reports that the Police had rejected the autopsy.

The Osun State Police Command, through its spokesperson Opalola Yemisi, said it was unaware of the rejection.

Yemisi said the case had been transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The Force Public Relations Officer Frank Mba did not respond to source request on the allegation.

Here is Timothy's movement

Timothy left Abuja on November 5 for Ile-Ife to sit for his last examination in the OAU Campus.

He lodged at the Hilton Hotel, where he allegedly died.

The deceased was declared missing on November 7 after his classmates discovered that he failed to show up in class at the Moro Distance Learning Centre of the OAU.

He had told his family he would check in at the Hilton Hotel, where he usually lodged.

These are the report gathered below;

On the night of 5th November, 2021 after series of sex with Miss Adesola, hilton receptionist, Timothy was a perpetual drug user, even to the extent of using drugs with injection and died as a result of trauma.

Beside the bed of late Timothy Adegoke at Hilton hotel ile ife; Viagra sex drug, 10mg. Cialis 20mg sex drugs, AMATEM Malaria drug, Paracetamol were found.

The autopsy was conducted by 3 professors, Seven professional pathologists and in the presence of timothy family and Hilton hotel owners representatives, it was discovered that Timothy died of trauma, which may be as a result of excesses marathon sex.

Timothy came to Hilton hotel because of sex with his girlfriend Adesola, even other receptionists exchange duties whenever Adesola receptionist is not on duty to give chance to the Timothy's heart desire

One Hamsat, a blogger had said that his body was dismembered but the police, the family of the deceased Olugbade and the members of their family and the autopsy reports have confirmed that not a single part of the body was dismembered. The family of the deceased Timothy were there when Timothy Adegoke's body was exhumed. Hence the lie on ritualism is false.

We learnt that Oriyomi was paid by a popular ile-ife king and others to tarnish the reputation of Dr Adedoyin (details later).

Copy of autopsy later because the police may not like it.

It will be recalled that Timothy lodged illegally at Hilton hotels ile-ife without paying one kobo to the Hilton Stanbic IBTC acct, curiously, rather than pay into the hotel’s account as a client, investigations revealed he made a cash transfer into the bank account of one of the employees (Girlfriend's Adeshola's personal account) – an act considered irregular.

Adesola and other staff begged the Managers to help her cover up because the Hotel chairman must not know that money was not paid to Hilton account, hence they went to dump the lifeless body of Timothy along Ede road on the 3rd day. Adesola never revealed that his boy friend had died.

The news was revealed by another receptionist on the 3rd day when the body had started smelling.

The hotel had repeatedly denied the deceased lodged at the facility before facts on the transaction emerged.

The Police consequently arrested some of the hotel’s staff, including the hotel’s owner, Ramon Adedoyin.

Adedoyin owner of the hotel

Adedoyin is a prominent chief in Ile-Ife. He owns Oduduwa University Ipetumodu and The Polytechnic Ile-Ife.

His son, Raheem Adedoyin, managed the hotel.

The source said the father, Educationist Ramon Adedoyin held by the Police, could be innocent.

PoliticsSix Months After, Osun Govt Fails To Address Menace Of Street Begging - Report by Honbright(op): 2:46am On Jan 10, 2021
Author: Bright Olorungbotemi

The rate of Street begging has drastically spread across other local government areas in the state of Osun.

Almost six months after this Newspaper has notified the state government under the ministry of commissioner for women affairs, Bukola Olaboopo.

Towards end-June last year, our reporter tour round Osogbo, Osun state capital amidst the spread of Coronavirus in Nigeria and the state after observing the surface of street begging.

The report titled ‘Coronavirus: Street begging increases in Osun amid fresh lockdown warning' was published on this newspaper. However, the report, which contains the details, the specific time and locations that make up the tour.

Similarly, recent findings revealed that there is a spike and increased of street begging across the state resulting from businesses and jobs facing hard times as a result of recession and increase in prices of goods and commodities.

Reporter discovered that, in Osogbo, Ikirun, Iwo, Ede, Ile-Ife, Ilesa, and some other notable towns, there had been an alarming increase in the numbers of street begging.

Apart from the northern children popularly known as the Almajiri, who are known for begging, findings further revealed that, the majority of the street beggars in the state are Yoruba men and women.

Yoruba people who are known for pride, dignity and who always shy away from dirty jobs have now seen begging as a lucrative job.

Recalled the commissioner for women affairs, Bukola Olaboopo, told VAM News correspondent in the state that her office is "not aware but the government will sensitize the parents and currently the government is planning to embark on street rading."

Again, our Correspondent who visited different locations of beggars around UBA Bank along Obafemi Awolowo Road Olonkoro Area, MDS station road, Olaiya junction, Old Garage and Ayetoro/Igbona, all in the Osogbo metropolis, observed that children between the ages of 5, 7 and 10 years, including some adults, particularly women, were moving around these locations begging for alms.

Similarly, some teenage girls and middle aged women, between the hours of 9am to 5pm, go round areas where most banks are located in Osogbo to beg for alms.

Some residents who spoke with VAM News Correspondent said, the development is as a result of hardship faced by the people, lack of proper orientation and bad governance.

Mr Tunji, a staff Of Osun mall, attributed the rampant street begging to the present hardship being faced in the state and particularly in Nigeria.

”In our state here, the situation is getting worrisome due to the hike in prices of goods"

”Many parents cannot cater for their children anymore and most children have resorted to begging as a means to feed themselves and the family "

“I must tell you that if we return the state or country back to lockdown without the government cushioning the effects, begging will become worst to the extent that it would constitute, nuisance “he stated.

Also speaking, Mr David Johnson, a Contractor said street begging is much in Osogbo, especially around Olonkoro Area, MDS station road, Old Garage and the opposite side of Osun Mall where you see adults begging for money. Saying. “no amount is too small, any money you give them, they will be happy.”

He, however, called on the State governments to do something quickly to end the menace.

Another resident, urged the state government to empower youths and ensure free counselling across the nooks and crannies of the state.

"Religious centres and Non governmental organizations' should increase their hands of stewardship and service to humanity to people and should increase the volume of their lecture on the consequences of lie or being deceitful to get money for a living" resident said.

However, Osun State is one of the top states in the country currently experiencing increased rates of street begging.

PoliticsFew Hours Before 2021, Osun Makes U-turn, Gives Fresh Directives On Crossover by Honbright(op): 9:07pm On Dec 29, 2020
Author: Bright Olorungbotemi

The government of the State of Osun has announced new guidelines for cross over religious gatherings across the state

Recall that the state government had earlier directed that there should be no countdown to new year ceremonies or cross over services under any guise published by VAM News, as part of its measures at curbing the spread of the coronavirus.

But in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode, the state government said its sensitivity to the mood of the season has necessitated a review of its earlier position.

It therefore announced fresh guidelines for the conduct of cross over services, adding that security operatives have been directed to strictly enforce the guidelines.

The statement read in part: “The government of the State of Osun has decided to allow cross over religious gatherings, being sensitive to the mood of the season.

“But any organisation holding cross over service must note that they are expected to close the service early and everyone must be off the streets by 1:00am.

“Security operatives have been given the directive to enforce this guideline. Religious bodies and citizens are therefore advised to comply because we do not want anyone to spend the first day of the year in police custody.

“Also, the leadership of religious bodies must ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, which include accommodating only 50 percent capacity of their normal attendance, ensuring social distancing, use of nose mask or face fields by participants, avoidance of sharing materials and instruments and avoidance of any other action that can help the virus to spread.

“The government wishes everyone a prosperous year ahead, but wants all of us to do what is right to keep the peace, safety and health of the State and its citizens.

“Let us be our brothers’ keeper and avoid actions that may put the safety of others in jeopardy. Obedience is better than sacrifice”, the statement read.

CrimeAmotekun Corps Assaults Man For Taking Pictures Of Their Vehicle In Osun by Honbright(op): 8:15am On Dec 19, 2020
Men of Osun Security Network Agency also known as Amotekun Corps on Thursday tortured a 32-year-old Animal Care Giver for allegedly taking the pictures of their vehicles, Insight Media has reported.

According to information gathered by Newsmen, the victim, identified as Babafemi Fabusuyi, was arrested at a public function at Ring Road in Osogbo by the Corps and he was beaten by the men on the spot before he was taking to their office located at Jaleoyemi area of the state capital.

Narrating what happened, Babafemi, who is a graduate of the Nigeria Navy Secondary School, Abeokuta told newsmen that he is still critically ill as a result of several wounds he sustained during the torture that last for over four hours.

He said his crime was “snapping the Amotekun vans at the event”, calling on well meaning Nigerians to ensure that he doesn’t suffer in vain.

Babafemi said, “what happened was that after closing for work, I went to meet a friend at WOCDIF event center. On getting there, I saw some Amotekun Corps and I took the picture of their vehicles. Next I heard was that some security men approached me and asked me to identify himself, which I did.

“At the place, they beat me so bad, used electric shock on me. I was later told that they are taking me to police station, only to be taken to their office at Jaleyemi.”

Babafemi added that on getting Amotekun Office, they checked him and found animal drugs on him with identity cards of the Man O’War and that of his school.

“I was beaten by the with Sanda (a leather material) by both the men and their Field Commander, Amitolu. I was later dropped at Olaiya junction at about 10:30 in the night. During this time, my phone was seized by the corps and it’s still with them.

“I was immediately rushed to hospital and I’m still receiving treatment.”

When contacted the Amotekun Field Commander, Amitolu Shittu said the Babafemi was arrested for pick pocketing at the event. He also alleged him of taking the pictures of the corps sometimes ago and publish same on Twitter.

“This is how some hoodlums ganged up to bring police down and they made sure that they silent police. Criminals are taking advantage of the absence of police. You’re calling me in respect of who? A pocket-picker? Or what what? boy who was arrested for pick-pocketing. What exactly you you saying?”, Amitolu queried newsmen.

When asked why the Babafemi was taken to the office for torture instead of police station as demanded by law, the former human rights activist said, “he was not tortured. He was only running and they pursued him. And if he thinks he has anything, let me go to the law court. Press house is not the best for him. Whatever any of my officers did, I’m responsible. He only tried to escape justice. That’s the reason why.” He said.

When asked if he used Shanda on Babafemi, he queried “have you seen me with such before? I don’t use it”

PoliticsOsun Monarch Hints Nigerian Government To Pull Out Of Anti People's Treaty' ICC by Honbright(op): 6:13am On Dec 13, 2020
The Olowu of Kuta in Ayedire Local Government area of Osun state, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama has called on soldiers of the Nigerian army not to be demoralised by Friday's statement of the International Criminal Court (ICC) which suggested that Nigeria's fighting forces committed war crimes in the fight against Boko Haram.

The Oba who said he aligned with the position of the army authorities that the ICC statement was capable of demoralizing the troops called on leaders across the country to speak out in support of our soldiers who continue to pay the supreme sacrifice so that the country can be safe for all.

He urged the troops to look at the big picture and continue their service to the nation without giving room for distractions, local and international conspiracies which indirectly serve the cause of terrorists.

The Olowu said it was sad and unfortunate that the ICC prosecutor attacked the credibility of our fighting forces at this critical point in Nigeria's war against terrorism.

He therefore called on all genuine lovers of Nigeria and believers in the rights of the people to rally round Nigerian soldiers and condemn pronouncements which support and strengthen enemies of the people which was what the ICC statement was.

The Oba urged the troops to continue to fight and forge ahead in their godly mission of securing the country and its people and flush out terrorists from the Nigerian space while counselling them to remain law abiding at all times.

The Prosecutor General of the International Criminal Court (ICC) had on Friday, 12 December, 2020, alleged that she had found a reasonable basis to believe that “members of the Nigerian Security Forces ("NSF"wink” committed acts constituting crimes against humanity and war crimes in the ongoing campaigns against Boko Haram.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General TY Buratai, however responded promptly enjoining Nigerian troops to ignore the distractions and not get demoralized by those moves of the ICC.

TravelCheckmating The Incessant Accident At Jaleyemi Osogbo, Message To Oyetola-report by Honbright(op): 6:14am On Dec 09, 2020
Based on data that are at best conservative estimates, Nigeria is a country with a serious and growing road accident problem that is about the worst in the world. From highways to Trunk B and C roads, Autocrash have become daily occurrence in Osun state, Nigeria at large, with many victims losing their lives and others sustaining various degrees of injuries.

Like every other parts of Nigeria, Jaleyemi junction, a converging points for network of roads (Olaiya, Gbodofon, Isale Aro and Isale Osun) at Odi-Olowo area of Osogbo, Osun state capital, has become a 'regular site' for road accident, with a record of not less than three cases occuring weekly. One out of these three cases results into loss of live(s) while the others result into victims sustaining serious injuries.

This ugly menace of major and minor crashes occuring virtually on a daily basis has become a source of growing concern to pedestrians, motorists and business owners along the road.

According to an okada rider who spoke with VAM News on condition of annonymity, not less than seven cases of road crash occured in the month of November, 2020.

A fact-finding mission by our correspondent revealed that, although the roads leading to the junction are in good condition, it has notwithstanding remained a death trap for commuters while government and relevant stakeholders have ignored the complaints of road users, leaving them to their fate.

While speaking with our correspondent, Samuel Adeyemi, a shop owner in the area decried the incessant cases of accidents at the junction and lamented that on several occasions, it has caused 'avoidable' loss of lives.

"Accident at this junction has become a worrisome situation. At least two times in a week, accident occurred at this place and sadly, it usually results into avoidable loss of lives. He said.

Adeyemi, a trader of five years in the area further expressed sadness that government have never shown concern to the plight and ugly experience witnessed by commuters and residents in the area.

According to him; "It is quite sad that government are showing that they are less concerned about the situation here. As a matter of fact they have never shown concern or readiness to address this ugly situation".

Observers have queried that despite the good state of roads intersecting at Jaleyemi, then, what could have been the causes of the unending accidents?

In the view of a resident in the area, Adejumoke Afe, impatience and reckless speeding by okada riders remains the major factor responsible for the crashes. Noting that victims are usually okada riders and their passengers. Although she could not recall the last time a major accident occurred at the intersection, Adejumoke revealed that a minor case happened on the 1st of December 2020, involving two okada riders carrying one passenger each, with both riders and one passenger sustaining minor injuries.

A nursing officer at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic hospital who spoke with our reporter on condition of annonymity disclosed that reckless driving by private car owners and okada riders accounts for the major cases referred to the hospital. Sighting that victims are mostly okada riders who had been hit by private cars. She stated further that traffic congestion as well as violation of traffic codes by motorists are also causes of accident at the junction.

While stressing the need for proper orientation for road users on safety culture as possible solution to the menace of accident at Jaleyemi, Abdulganiyy Kafayat, a student of LAUTECH College of Health Sciences suggested that mental evaluation be carried out on drivers before licenses are being issued to them. She also stated that urgent and proactive measures must be taken to reduce the rate of crashes at the junction, maintaining that government should put in place traffic light system, as this she believes would put a permanent stop to the rising cases of accident.

CrimeHoodlums Attack Presidential Task Force At Tin Can Port (photos, Video) - Report by Honbright(op): 6:08am On Nov 24, 2020
Scores of hoodlums led by Mr. Taofeek popularly known as Tao attacked members of the Presidential Task Force and truck drivers at the Tin Can Port second gate in a bid to prevent the Presidential Task Force from putting a stop to their illegal activity of passing trucks without authorization.

The Presidential Task Force had successfully cleared the road for free movement of trucks into and out of the port but this was unacceptable to the hoodlums who had hitherto constituted themselves into the lord and master of the road, deciding unilaterally which truck could enter the port and which truck could not. Of course, the truckers were only allowed into the port after the payment of large sums of money to the hoodlums.

The hoodlums, in collaboration with some unscrupulous elements in the haulage industry, had reigned supreme on the road before the intervention of the Presidential Task Force. While they were illegally in charge, there was an endless queue of trucks on all the roads leading into Apapa. It should therefore surprise no one that they would resist the intervention of the Presidential Task Force.

During the altercation, the hoodlums threw stones and sticks in a bid to chase members of the Presidential Task Force away from the road. They attempted to burn the police patrol vehicle but were unsuccessful. They later vandalized the vehicle. Following the attack, the Presidential Task Force, including the civilian members, withdrew from the area without responding to the attack and provocation by the hoodlums.

Throughout the confrontation, the Team Leader, SP Femi Iwasokun prevailed on his men to remain calm and directed them to withdraw from the scene in an orderly manner.

There was no shooting of bullets or teargas and there was no fatality. While it is true that several people sustained injuries, none was life threatening or fatal and reports of the shooting of one Adamu by the Police was clearly stage managed by the hoodlums to gain sympathy.

The video and pictures here do not contain any shooting. Instead, it provides evidence of the orderly withdrawal of Policemen and the civilian members of the Presidential Task Force from the area.

Watch Video below...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxULguwBi9c

The continued presence of hoodlums in the Apapa area is inimical to the conduct of business by operators in the haulage industry and should be checked by concerned authorities.

However, there is need for all stakeholders to embrace peace and unity so that there will be progress in the industry, ISMAIL OLAOYE, Stakeholder in haulage industry said.

PoliticsPolice Illegally Detain Me For A Month Over Article On Buhari's Minister-journal by Honbright(op): 5:39am On Nov 22, 2020
A Nigerian journalist and publisher of Power Steering Magazine has narrated his experience in detention for a month following publication on Goddy Jedy-Agba, the Minister of State for Power.

Oga Tom Uhia, publisher of the monthly independent Power Steering magazine, has been detained for weeks on a defamation complaint. (CPJ/Peter Nkanga sent to OV)Abuja, November 18.

There have been reports on how Mr Uhia was arrested October 13 following a petition dated July 1 by a lawyer, Obi Nwakor, on behalf of the minister. After a month in illegal detention, he eventually arraigned before Justice A. B Mohammed of the FCT High Court 19, Gudu, Abuja on November 9.

Mr Uhia was accused of defaming Mr Jedy-Agba. But in an interview published by The Union Nigeria, the journalist said his report indicting Mr Jedy-Agba of his alleged involvement in an incident that led to the 2012 Dana airline crash was well investigated.

He disclosed that the minister found the report hash, hence, he tried to use police to gag him.

"As a matter of fact, of the three major stories in that edition, the Minister tried to cover the others with this one. This was not the most grievous of the stories".

“The story on the stealing of crude oil in Nigeria would have been the major cover. He systematically avoided that one to pick his alleged involvement in the crash of the Dana aircraft in 2012. That notwithstanding, he picked me and locked me up for 29 days on the instance of the DIG, of Force CID headquarters, Abuja, Mr Michael Ogbizi, his mother’s younger brother.”

PoliticsFLASHBACK: El-rufai To President: Quit If You Can't Solve Nigeria's Problems by Honbright(op): 6:14am On Nov 21, 2020
Eight years ago, an uproar in the federal government reverberated across the country when former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai now the governor of Kaduna state, called on Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan now the former president of the country to quit if he could not solve the growing security threats to lives and property in the country.

HIS WORDS GATHERED BY VAM NEWS WERE AS FOLLOWS “IF HE CANNOT DO THE JOB FOR WHICH HE WAS ELECTED TO DO, HE SHOULD CONSIDER GOING HOME. NO PRESIDENT HAS EVER SOUGHT THE HELP OF THE ORDINARY PEOPLE IN TACKLING SECURITY PROBLEMS IN THIS COUNTRY

“The protection of lives and property of the citizens is the basis of any government in power and if the leadership has failed woefully to deploy the resources and information at its disposal to enforce coercive power for the benefit of the society, then it had no reason to stay on", he said.

Also, his tweet picked by this newspaper, "Nothing wrong with asking a president to resign, even presidents that are useful to their people get asked to..."
20:16 • 23/07/2012.

At the time that he spoke, Nigeria was the fourth most terrorised nation in the world. Now, fast forward to today, Nasir El-Rufai is now Governor of Kaduna state, and his mentor, President Muhammadu Buhari is currently the President of the nation and Chief Security Officer of Nigeria. Yet, despite this dream team, Nigeria is more insecure today.

According to the Global Terrorism index, Nigeria is now among the leading country in the world facing insecurity, attack on #EndSARS protesters, even with the current record that the epicentre of insecurity is now the northeast and Kaduna state.

MR Governor, Who once asked the then President, Jonathan to resign is today mute on the turnout of his kaduna's state internal security woo and security collapses in the nation.

It is sad that human life has become nothing and like a tissue paper in Kaduna and also the spate of violence escalates, particularly in the Southwestern states during the EndSARS protest and in Nigeria at large, kidnapping everywhere, injustice everyday.

Recalled that El-Rufai went on national television to announce that he paid Fulani to stop killing and this same Governor is positioning to be president of the nation in 2023.

There has been no improvement in the quality of life of Nigerians under Buhari’s watch. Undeterred, Editorial concluded: “Government even said if ‘we don’t perform, stone us’.

El-Rufai, apparently aware of the mess inept leadership, including his and Buhari’s, has plunged Nigeria into in the security affairs of the nation.

PoliticsCLOSE UP: Major Instances Where Nigerian Army Cover Up Officers Illegalities by Honbright(op): 11:17am On Nov 20, 2020
EDITORIAL: It appears that it is not yet time to draw the curtain on the killings that marred the #EndSARS protests against police brutality in Lekki toll gate on October 20.

Throughout the month of October, Nigerian youth were on the streets at various cities across the country against police brutality but the agitations ended violently following security operatives attack on peaceful protesters.

On October 20, military personnel fully armed attacked shot at protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos. Amnesty International, claimed that over 10 persons were killed by the soldiers but the state government said only two people died.

In reaction to the ugly incident, the Nigerian Army through its official Twitter handle @HQNigerianArmy tagged the incident false. This reaction came amidst several videos evidence circulating on social media.

There was also a live stream Instagram video by popular artiste, DJ Switch who has not gone on exile. More so, investigative reports by boths local and international media organisations detailed the shooting that occurred at Lekki.

But military officials insisted that their men acted responsibly. The soldiers never shot at protesters, the army maintained.

While investigation is ongoing, the federal government has begun a clampdown on promoters of the protests which is not limited to seizing their international passports, freezing their bank accounts and arresting some individuals.

On Thursday, the minister of information, Lai Mohammed maintained that all that happened could either be “social media massacre” or at best “massacre without bodies.”

"While we await the judicial panel in Lagos to unravel what transpired at the Lekki Toll Gate, what we can say, based on testimonies available in the public space, is that the world may have just witnessed, for the very first time ever, a massacre without bodies".

"Some have tagged it ‘social media massacre.’ The testimony of Brig.-Gen, Ahmed Ibrahim Taiwo of the Nigerian Army before the panel was compelling, and I am sure many of you have listened to or watched it."

Asides the latest cover up by the Nigerian Army, we look at various instances that the army have deceived the public.

In 2016, when there were reports backed with 87 videos by Amnesty International that military personnel dispersed Pro – Biafra protesters with live ammunition, the military denied.

Reports exposed that no fewer than 60 members of the proscribed group, Indigenous People of the Biafra, IPOB were killed.

Amnesty International affirmed that the victims were attacked at Onitsha and Asaba and they left with the remains of victims.

But the Army denied. Instead, a colonel, then acting director of the Nigerian army public relations, Sani Usman, said it was IPOB members that attempted to use arms and they threatened the security of the country.

While the Nigerian Army admitted killing six members of an Islamic sect, Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) during a protest at Abuja, in 2018, New York Times investigation proved otherwise.

The Army said the Shiites guys were stoning Tukur Buratai, the chief of army staff, hence, they had no choice than to retaliate after ten soldiers were injured.

But the New York Times video revealed that the soldiers shot at civilians who were running.

“A close review of video from the largest and most deadly of the protests, as well as interviews with more than a dozen witnesses, clearly shows the military opening fire on unarmed demonstrators, sometimes shooting indiscriminately into the crowd at close range as people turned and tried to flee.

“Photos and videos recorded that day show at least 26 bodies. The group said it had collected a total of 49 bodies during the four days of protests,” the report stated.

“After soldiers began to fire, they targeted protesters fleeing the chaos. Many of the injured were shot in the back or legs,” the international medium report read in part.

The military also lied in 2016 that they had killed the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau. In his statement, the then Army spokesman, Sani Usman, said after a fight with Boko Haram said "Abubakar Shekau is believed to be fatally wounded on his shoulders.".

But Shekau came back barely a month in a 40-seconds video posted on YouTube saying "Oh! tyrants, I’m in a happy state, in good health and in safety,”

Alas, the Army kept mum and never said anything again.

HealthSpecial Report:nigeria On Brink Of National Emergency Over Yellow Fever Outbreak by Honbright(op): 11:04am On Nov 17, 2020
By Bright Olorungbotemi

Nearly 206,139,589 people in Nigeria are at risk, Lagos, Kano state could be next and even Enugu state have had outbreaks of the deadly disease.

Urgent action is needed to combat a yellow fever epidemic in Nigeria amid signs it is turning into a national health emergency and a severe shortage of the medical attention, VAM News editorial has warned.

With nearly a millions people at risk from the deadly disease following the report of a suspected Yellow Fever outbreak in three more local government areas of the Enugu state.

At this level, the leadership of the country should be extremely vigilant not to allow the further spread of Yellow fever like COVID-19 which started from a foreigner in Lagos state and it has spread across the nation and still counting.

Enugu State had been battling to contain the outbreak of the disease in two communities of Ette Uno and Umuopu in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of the state, which reportedly claimed 52 lives between late October when the outbreak was first reported and November 2020.

This newspaper learnt that the state government has also confirmed the incident, had received reports of strange deaths within communities in Nsukka, Isi-Uzo, and Igbo-Etiti LGAs.

A statement by the Commissioner of Health, Prof Ikechukwu Obi, released on Sunday night, disclosed that the ministry’s Rapid Response Team, LGA Rapid Response Teams in collaboration with International and National Partners had visited the communities to investigate the reports and had taken samples for testing.

“Following the confirmed cases of Yellow Fever in Igbo Eze North LGA of Enugu State and the concerted efforts to control the situation in the LGA by the State Government, Stakeholders and Partners; Federal and International, reports have also been received of ‘strange deaths’ within communities in Nsukka, Isi-Uzo and Igbo-Etiti LGAs.

“The Enugu State Ministry of Health Rapid Response Team, LGA Rapid Response Teams, International and National Partners have also visited these LGAs to investigate the reports and take samples for testing just as was done for the reports at Igboeze North.

“The new set of samples from these LGAs have been sent to the National Reference Laboratory at the Federal Capital Territory Abuja for a thorough and complete examination to determine conclusively the reasons for these new set of reports and the results are expected back early this week,” it reads partly

While the Health Commissioner condoled with families that lost their loved ones in the unfortunate development, reminded residents of the state that “Yellow Fever is transmitted through mosquito bites”.

He, therefore, advised that people should keep their environment clean and remove mosquito breeding sites around their homes.

He added, “Yellow Fever Vaccination is not for treatment of Yellow Fever, it is for prevention of Yellow Fever.

“If you have been recently vaccinated against Yellow Fever, you do not need to be vaccinated again.

“It takes 10 days or more for Yellow fever vaccine to start working after you have received it.

“If you or your loved one are not feeling well, please visit or take your loved one to a nearby hospital for treatment. Trained Health Workers can recognize most of the diseases of public health importance and know what to do.”

PoliticsOsun State Workers' Salaries Under The New Minimum Wage Regime by Honbright(op): 9:25am On Nov 16, 2020
Osun State, the land of virtue is an inland state in south-western Nigeria and largely a civil servant State. Since the creation of the State in 27 August, 1991 they have been the drivers of the economy and its capital is Osogbo.

A few days ago, the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, took a bold managerial decision by changing the narrative of the welfare of Osun workers.

Recall that the State Government announced the approval of the new minimum wage for civil servants in the State effective from November 1 this year.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, #EndSARS protest and the violence that have really affected the economy in the country, the Administration of Adegboyega Oyetola has taken it upon itself to improve the welfare of workers in the State.

As at the time of filing this report, this newspaper learnt that only five governors have signed the new minimum wage.

They are:

1. Lagos state – Babajide Sanwo-Olu

2. Kaduna – Mallam Nasir El-Rufai

3. Kebbi – Abubakar Atiku Bagudu

4. Adamawa – Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri

5. Jigawa state – Mohammed Badaru Abubakar

With the signing of the new minimum wage by Governor Oyetola, Osun state becomes the sixth state in the country to put a smile on the faces of its workforce.

Unfortunately, VAM News gathered that shortly after the announcement of the signing of the minimum wage, naysayers went to town with rumours that the increments on salary are as paltry as N1000, N700, etc.

In order to put a lie to this wicked rumour and put out the truth in the public space, our correspondent took a tour of some of the agencies of government to know exactly the increment ratio and to feel the mood of workers over this development.

Our findings reveal that, contrary to the innuendos of the naysayers, the new increment is substantial. For instance, under the old salary regime, a Level 6 Step 7 officer takes less than N30,000 as salary in the State in the old salary regime.

With the new approval in which Mr. Governor has agreed to make use of one of the outstanding promotions, such an officer will be going home with N44, 000; that is, the new level will be Level 7 Step 7.

It will be recalled that workers were granted nominal promotion by former adminstration (without cash backing). But now, the New Salary structure for all workers has increased. The governor approved promotion for workers and between N15,000 and N20,000 will be added to workers’ salaries.

The salary of staff on Level 7 step 7 is now N44,000 under the current Administration effective from November 1, 2020.

Every year, civil servants statutorily move to another step. But the last time they had annual increment in Osun was in 2013, hence, workers have remained on same spot since 2013 till date.

But with the new approval, workers will begin to get their annual increments annually effective from January, 2021.

Some of the workers we interviewed, who pleaded not to be mentioned due to the nature of their work, were full of joy and gratitude.

They described Mr Oyetola as a man of his word who doesn’t joke with people’s welfare.

“We did not expect this at this critical period when the whole world is faced with Covid-19 challenges. Mr. governor has done wonderfully well and we shall forever be grateful for this gesture.”

In the same vein, the Administration of Gboyega Oyetola has lifted embargo on promotions and conversions for workers in the State.

Politics#endsars: Full List Of States That Have Institute Panels Of Inquiry So Far by Honbright(op): 10:01pm On Nov 10, 2020
After several days of peaceful agitations by Nigerians youth that was later hijacked by thugs and ended up in violence demonstrations against police brutality in tge country, the Nigerian government recently accepted their 5for5 demands.

One of the concessions agreed by the government during the genuine #EndSARS protest was the setting up of judicial panels of inquiry by state governments into cases of alleged violations of human rights by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other police units.

PoliticsREPORT: Again, President Buhari Blocks Feedback From Nigerians To His Tweets by Honbright(op): 4:39pm On Nov 10, 2020
By Bright Gbotemi

President Muhammadu Buhari can only have one sided conversation with Nigerians on twitter, a visit to his twitter feed has shown, VAM News reports.

Recall that the president disabled the reply to his Twitter feed at about 5:06pm on September 30th, 2020 when he tweeted about the railway project he approved.

Again, the tweet he regularly sends out can no longer be engaged by Nigerians who always take advantage of the social media app to express their grievance or support for government policies.

The move is strange for a public figure because the feedback mechanism help them to assess their popularity or policies.

VOICE AIR MEDIA confirmed that the tweet can't be replied.

The president had tweeted about the Coronavirus vaccines at 1:16pm today, November 10.

He tweeted; "I welcome the news that a Coronavirus vaccine has recorded ninety percent effectiveness in clinical trials. This is a major milestone. The world must now make great effort to facilitate equitable access and distribution of these vaccines, to protect people in All countries."

Nigerians on Twitter are currently reacting to the decision of the presidency to lock the comment section of the Tweet above on the President's official handle.

However, the comment section of the tweets was locked, making it impossible for Nigerians to share their thoughts on the Coronavirus vaccine.

While some kicked against the decision to lock the comment section, others pointed out that the presidency opted for the decision to lock the comment section because Nigerians have in recent times spammed the comment section of any of President Buhari's tweets with ''I follow back'', ''Please Follow back''.

This Newspaper learnt that the President has three social media handlers - Tolu Ogunlesi, Bashir Ahmad and Lauretta Onuchie. They are the ones that tweet with the handle. It is clear if they alerted the president before disabling the feedback mechanism of his tweeter.

Foreign AffairsMali Ex-president Toure, Democratic Icon Toppled In Coup, Has Died by Honbright(op): 12:51pm On Nov 10, 2020
Mali’s former president Amadou Toumani Toure, who led the Sahel nation for 10 years before being ousted in a coup, has died in Turkey aged 72, a family member and a doctor said on Tuesday.

“Amadou Toumani Toure died during the night of Monday to Tuesday in Turkey,” where he had been taken for health reasons, his nephew Oumar Toure told AFP.

Toure was Mali’s President from 2002. He led the Sahel nation for 10 years before being deposed by a military coup in March 2012 led by General Amadou Haya Sanogo.

Toure's life, in many ways, symbolised the stop-start nature of democracy in the West African country, where his successor, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, was overthrown in another coup this August.

Widely known by his initials ATT, Toure was a former paratrooper who seized power in 1991 after military ruler Moussa Traore's security forces killed more than 100 pro-democracy demonstrators.

He organised democratic elections the following year and handed over power to a civilian president, earning him the nickname of “Soldier of Democracy”.
