The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Southwest Zone D, has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, to reverse a disputed increase in institutional charges and address students' grievances over financial accountability.




In a statement released on Wednesday, October 29, 2026, and signed by its Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), the Zone said it received reports from students and the NANS Joint Campus Council, JCC, Ekiti Axis, over increased charges, lack of consultation, and concerns about the administration of NELFUND institutional payments.




NANS accused the management of the Polytechnic under the Rector, Engr. Dr. Temitope John Alake, of administrative incompetence and insensitivity for imposing additional financial burden on students without adequate consultation.




The statement noted that whether the management describes the payments as school fees, service charges or compulsory levies, the burden falls on the same students and their struggling families.




The association also raised concerns for students who applied for NELFUND support based on previous charges, saying the introduction of new charges after their applications creates uncertainty and could frustrate the Federal Government's student loan scheme.




NANS further faulted the manner in which the institution invited the JCC leadership for dialogue, describing the invitation sent at 10:46 a.m. for a 12 noon meeting on the same day as unreasonable and not directed to the Chairman or General Secretary of the JCC.




NANS Demands:

The student body demanded that within 72 hours, management must:

1. Reverse the disputed increase and restore previous charges.
2. Convene a proper engagement with the JCC and Students' Union leadership with reasonable notice.
3. Provide itemised explanation of the previous and revised charges and approvals for the increase.
4. Present a reconciliation of NELFUND institutional payments received, amounts credited to beneficiaries and refunds due.
5. Suspend penalties and registration restrictions for non-payment of the disputed increase pending resolution.




The Zone also demanded documentary evidence of the institution's share of the Federal Government's Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund, which it said was reported as N241.02 million for the Polytechnic, including approved projects and expenditure.




To ensure transparency, NANS Southwest has mandated the JCC Ekiti Axis to constitute a Campus Funds and Projects Monitoring Committee to inspect facilities and submit findings.




The association warned that failure to meet the demands within 72 hours would lead to relocation of its operational headquarters to the main gate of the Polytechnic for sustained peaceful mass action.




It called on the Governing Council, Federal Ministry of Education, NBTE and NELFUND to intervene, while urging students to remain peaceful and preserve receipts and invoices.

A youth group under the aegis of Ife/Ijesha Concerned Youths has called for purposeful and people-oriented representation in the Ife/Ijesha Senatorial District, declaring its opposition to threats and stagnation in the district.

In a statement on Thursday, the group said the district deserves progress and sincere leadership that prioritizes development, accountability and welfare of constituents, rather than intimidation.

"We want progress in Ife/Ijesha Senatorial District, not stagnation. We deserve sincere, people-oriented representation, not a leader who threatens to wipe us off," the group stated.

The youths questioned the tangible achievements recorded after eight years in office by the current representation, insisting that the people of the district deserve better.

According to the group, eight years should be enough to deliver visible development, adding that there is no justification for a third term without tangible results.

"Eight years should be enough. There is no justification for a third term without tangible results. It is time for a new direction, fresh ideas, and genuine representation. Our district deserves progress, not another term of stagnation," the statement added.

The group called for leadership that will prioritize development and accountability ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Outrage as Reps Member Shares 120 Exercise Books Among 2,000 Pupils in Idanre After Cancelling Summer Lessons


A federal lawmaker representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency has come under heavy criticism after cancelling summer lessons and distributing only 120 exercise books(5 packs) to over 2,000 pupils in a public school in Idanre.




The lawmaker, whose intervention was meant to support indigent pupils during the long holiday, reportedly distributed five packs of exercise books, containing 24 books per pack, bringing the total to 120 copies to St. Joseph school, Idanre.




Parents and community members who witnessed the distribution described the gesture as grossly inadequate, noting that with over 2,000 pupils in the school, the sharing formula amounts to one book for every 16 pupils.




One parent who spoke under anonymity said, "We were expecting learning materials to support the children after the summer lessons were cancelled, but what we saw was disappointing. How do you share 120 books among 2,000 pupils?"




The development has drawn comparisons on social media to the widely criticized "one motorcycle per ward" empowerment programmes done by the same House of Representatives member, where constituents described such gestures as tokenism.



Residents are now calling on the lawmaker to prioritize more impactful educational interventions.

Political tension is brewing in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State following allegations that the All Progressives Congress, APC, House of Representatives candidate for the Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency has been tearing down campaign banners bearing the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, after reportedly adopting the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate for 2027.

Multiple residents and party supporters alleged that the candidate’s supporters were seen removing and destroying Tinubu-branded banners and posters across major streets in Idanre town over the weekend. The incident has since sparked anger and condemnation among loyalists of the President in the area.

Sources within the party claimed the move followed the candidate’s recent decision to adopt and campaign for the ADC presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections, a development that has created unease among APC stakeholders in Idanre/Ifedore.


Alleged Defection Fuels Anger

The alleged action comes amid intensified political activities and early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“This explains why the President’s banners are being brought down. You cannot be SDP and be campaigning for another party’s presidential candidate,” a party chieftain in Idanre who pleaded anonymity said.

Another resident described the development as “a betrayal” and called on the APC leadership in Ondo State to intervene before it degenerates.

Another resident noted that the banners were part of materials put up by Tinubu support groups to show solidarity with the President’s administration.

For residents of Agbinpa, a rural community in Ede South Local Government Area of Osun State, accessing basic healthcare can begin with a difficult journey.




The road leading to the community is rough and uneven, making transportation expensive and, in some instances, discouraging commercial motorcyclists from making the trip.




At the end of that journey is the Agbinpa Primary Healthcare Centre, a facility that remains important to the community but whose physical condition tells a story of years of limited attention.




Overgrown grasses cover sections of the compound. Parts of the building show peeling paint and cracks, while some sections of the facility have become unusable.




A staff quarters commissioned in March 1999 stands beside the health centre, serving as a reminder of how long the facility has been providing healthcare to residents.




But while the structure has aged, the community's need for healthcare has not diminished.




ONE HEALTH WORKER, AN ENTIRE COMMUNITY

During a visit by VAM News, the facility's lone health worker, Rashidat Lamidi, was attending to patients.




For years, Lamidi has effectively combined the responsibilities of healthcare provider, administrator and emergency responder at the centre.




She attends to pregnant women, children and other patients. Even after leaving the facility for the day, she said she sometimes returns when residents call for emergency assistance.




“Even if I’m at home and somebody comes to call me because a child is sick or a woman wants to give birth, I will come,” she said.




Lamidi said her salary is paid regularly by the state government.




Her concern, however, is the condition of the facility itself.




According to her, government officials and politicians have visited the community over the years, particularly during election periods, but the visits have not translated into the level of improvement residents expect.




“They come here, but they don’t do anything,” she said.




The situation raises a larger question: what happens to rural healthcare when a facility depends almost entirely on the commitment of one health worker?




Lamidi is already thinking about what will happen after her retirement.



“I don’t know what will happen to this place,” she said.




WHEN BASIC TESTS REQUIRE A JOURNEY TO EDE

The challenges at Agbinpa go beyond the appearance of the building.




The health centre does not have a functional laboratory.




Patients requiring basic blood tests are therefore referred to Ede, approximately 26 kilometres away.




Women who come to deliver are also sometimes required to purchase gloves, methylated spirit and other basic consumables before receiving treatment.




For residents, these additional expenses come on top of transportation costs.




A mother of five(5), Mum Kudurat, who delivered all five of her children at the facility, said the nurse's commitment is one of the reasons the centre remains useful.




“The nurse is good. It is only because of the condition of the hospital that people do not come here,” she said.




Patients requiring scans are referred to Ede, she added.




“If someone is sick, what can we do? We have to go.”




For Abdulrahaman Babatunde, transportation is another major burden.




He said commercial motorcycles often avoid the route because of its condition.




“If you hire a bike, it can cost N6,000,” he said. “If the rider waits for you, they charge as much as N10,000.”




The poor road also affects farmers who depend on transportation to move agricultural produce to markets.




NO ELECTRICITY, HIGHER COST OF LIVING

Electricity is another challenge confronting residents.




According to Babatunde, the community has been without regular electricity for a long period despite the presence of poles and wires.




“There has been no light here for a long time,” he said.




Residents who need to charge their phones and power banks depend on privately operated solar charging points, where they pay between N400 and N700.




For a community already struggling with transportation and healthcare costs, such expenses add another layer to the economic burden.




ABUDO: WHEN THE JOURNEY TO THE HOSPITAL STARTS WITH A BAD ROAD

Agbinpa is not an isolated case.

About an hour from Osogbo, Abudo Primary Healthcare Centre in Egbedore Local Government Area presents another dimension of the rural healthcare challenge.



Here, the first barrier is the road.



The poor condition of the road has made commercial motorcyclists reluctant to travel to the community.



When VAM News arrived at the facility at about 1 p.m., the health centre was locked.



Through dusty louvre windows, patient registers and other documents could be seen inside the rooms. Cobwebs were visible in parts of the building.




There was no health worker on the premises.




Telephone numbers had been written on a wall for patients who needed assistance.




VAM News called the numbers several times. The calls either failed to connect or the phones were switched off.




A COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE WITHOUT A PHARMACY

Chief Alao, a community leader, said Abudo PHC serves residents of the community as well as people from neighbouring settlements.




He attributed some of the healthcare access problems to the condition of the road.




“This road was not constructed by the government,” he said. “The community did it ourselves, although there are still many potholes.”




Kemi Olawole, a palm kernel processor, said patients whose conditions cannot be managed at the facility are referred to Ede, about 16 kilometres away.




The community also depends on a motorcycle vendor who brings orthodox medicines into Abudo.




Without the vendor, Olawole said, residents would have to travel outside the community to purchase essential medicines.




Kehinde Olumide, who works in the palm kernel oil trade, said transportation remains a major obstacle.





“We hardly see motorcycles here,” he said. “And when you get one, it is very expensive because of the road.”




For residents, the healthcare problem is therefore not limited to whether a PHC exists.




The real issue is whether residents can reach it, whether health workers are available when they arrive, and whether the facility has the equipment and medicines required to treat them.




EKUSA: A RENOVATED FACILITY, BUT HAVE THE PROBLEMS ENDED?

About 36 kilometres away, in Ekusa, Odo-Otin Local Government Area, the story takes another turn.




The community's PHC was renovated in 2020.




An inscription on the building states that the project was carried out by the Odo-Otin Local Government and commissioned on March 15, 2020.




Six years later, however, residents say the renovation has not resolved many of the facility's problems.




During the visit by VAM News, portions of the premises were overgrown with weeds and the borehole was not functioning.




Health workers declined to speak on the condition of the facility, with one worker requesting anonymity because of restrictions on speaking publicly about PHC matters.




“Many people have come here asking questions,” the worker said. “If it is something I cannot talk about, it is better I don’t say anything.”




The worker directed enquiries to the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Agency.




Residents said the facility normally closes around 4 p.m., meaning patients who arrive later may have to wait until the following day or travel elsewhere.




Mojisola, a resident, said people often seek treatment outside the community when the facility cannot meet their needs.




Abdulrahaman Wasiu, a spiritual and youth leader, said the problems had persisted despite the 2020 renovation.




“People only came to paint the building,” he said. “Apart from that, nothing much changed.”



Wasiu recalled visiting the facility after suffering a dislocation but leaving without receiving the treatment he needed.




According to him, the health centre has existed for as long as he can remember but remains understaffed.




When VAM News returned to the facility with Wasiu, they encountered another resident wearing an “Imole cap” who identified himself as a supporter of Governor Ademola Adeleke.




He confirmed that health workers had been directed to refer enquiries concerning PHCs to the relevant government agency.



He also acknowledged that the facility required attention but said Governor Adeleke would intervene if he became aware of its condition.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement, Comrade Asefon Sunday Dayo, has called on Nigerian students to embrace innovation, digital skills, and leadership as key drivers of national development.



Speaking on Friday at the Renewed Hope Student Leaders Engagement and Digital Acceleration Programme for the North Central Zone held in Lafia, the Presidential aide said the initiative reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to investing in Nigerian youths.




Representatives of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Kareem Olawale Lateef, and the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Muhammad Abdullah, joined Vice Chancellors, the MD of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, and student leaders from NANS, NAPS, JCCs and SUGs across the zone at the event.




According to the SSA, the Renewed Hope Agenda places Nigerian students at the centre of nation-building. “As students, you are not only leaders of tomorrow but active partners in nation-building today,” he said.




He noted that the digital revolution has opened new opportunities in Artificial Intelligence, data analytics, cybersecurity, software development, and digital marketing. “We want every Nigerian student to become a creator of opportunities, not just a seeker of opportunities,” he added.




The SSA urged participants to maximize the training, networking, and interactive sessions, and to serve as ambassadors of innovation, peace, and unity on their campuses.




He also charged student leaders to go beyond representation by promoting excellence, integrity, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence in their institutions.




Reaffirming the Presidency’s commitment, he said: “On behalf of this office, we will continue to engage Nigerian students, listen to your aspirations, and create platforms that empower you academically, economically and socially.”


The SSA thanked President Tinubu for his investments and reforms in the education sector, saying they are expanding access to quality education and strengthening the future of the nation.

The Federal Government on Friday, July 31, 2026, flagged off the Renewed Hope Students Leaders Engagement and Digital Acceleration Programme for the South-East Zone, with a call on Nigerian students to become creators and innovators in the digital economy.




Speaking at the event, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students' Engagement, Comrade Sunday Asefon Dayo, said the programme was designed to strengthen government-student engagement, expose young people to digital opportunities, and inspire a new generation of tech-driven leaders.




Asefon conveyed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, noting that the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda places young people at the center of national development.



"The President firmly believes that Nigeria's greatest asset is not just its natural resources but also the demography of its youthful population," Asefon said. "This conviction continues to inspire policies and programs aimed at equipping students with the skills, opportunities, and platforms needed to thrive in the 21st century."




He described the South-East as a region with a rich history of enterprise and innovation, stating that it was fitting to reward students who have harnessed digital technology to drive transformation in their communities.




Highlighting the impact of the digital revolution, the SSA listed Artificial Intelligence, data analytics, cybersecurity, software development, and digital marketing as areas creating unprecedented opportunities for young people.




"Our responsibility is to ensure that Nigerian students are not mere consumers of technology but creators of solutions, innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders who will drive the digital ecosystem," he added.

Speaking in a video obtained by SaharaReporters on Friday, the grieving woman, identified as Mrs. Moyere from Idanre, Ondo State, stated that her son, Tope, who was killed on February 18, 2026, was murdered by political thugs linked to individuals she identified as "Cobu" and "National," and not by those currently being detained and prosecuted.

The mother of a young man allegedly murdered in Ondo State has insisted that those currently standing trial over her son's death are innocent and were framed due to political disagreements with Nigeria's Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Speaking in a video obtained by SaharaReporters on Friday, the grieving woman, identified as Mrs. Moyere from Idanre, Ondo State, stated that her son, Tope, who was killed on February 18, 2026, was murdered by political thugs linked to individuals she identified as "Cobu" and "National," and not by those currently being detained and prosecuted.



According to her, the police are fully aware of the identities of the actual killers but have refused to act because they are afraid of the Minister of Interior.



She alleged that the police instead accepted bribes and carried out the minister's wishes by arresting and prosecuting innocent people.



"It is not those who are being remanded who killed my son," Mrs. Moyere said in the video.



"Thugs and people known to be loyalists of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, killed my son. It was not Hon. Tuyi Akintimehin Sosoliso, Dele Oni (also known as A.K.A.), or Mr. Toba Akinnuoye who killed my son. They were framed because of political disagreements with the minister.



"The people who killed my son are walking freely, while the police did nothing except collect bribes from the minister and do his bidding."

The bereaved mother identified one of the alleged killers as a man popularly known as "Cobu”.

She claimed that Cobu had personally threatened to kill her son because he supported the newly appointed leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

According to her, Cobu was formerly the NURTW chairman in the Idanre branch.

She said, "Cobu came to meet me and said he would kill my son because my son was supporting the newly appointed NURTW leadership."

Mrs. Moyere said she has been left devastated by the killing, adding that she now has only two surviving children, one of whom is blind.

“Nobody is taking care of me anymore,” she said. "Cobu and National killed my son."

She said despite reporting the matter to the traditional ruler's palace and submitting petitions to the police, nothing was done.



"I went to the palace to report the incident, but nothing was done,” she said.

"I also wrote petitions to the police, but nothing happened."

Appealing directly to Nigerians, she pleaded for justice.

She maintained that those currently in detention had no involvement whatsoever in the murder.

"Those in detention know nothing about the killing of my son. They are innocent,” she said. "They should release them. It was Cobu and National who killed my son."

Mrs. Moyere repeatedly lamented the killing of her son, describing the tragedy as one that has destroyed her life.

"My Tope, he didn't offend anyone. They killed Tope, and I will not let this go,” she said.



"What happened to Tope has broken my heart. I am devastated. I have nowhere to turn. I am crying and pleading with everyone.

"They have killed Tope. They have ruined my life. They have taken my child away from me. May they face the consequences of what they have done."

Also speaking in a video obtained by SaharaReporters, Mrs. Akintimehin, wife of the detained Tuyi Akintimehin Sosoliso, said her husband was being persecuted over an offence she insisted he neither committed nor had any knowledge of.

She alleged that shortly after the incident, authorities began targeting her husband despite what she described as his complete lack of involvement.

"After the incident that happened in April, they started victimising him,” she said. "Eventually, they took him to Abuja in April."



She accused former Ondo State APC Chairman Ade Adetimehin, House of Representatives member Festus Akingbaso, individuals she identified as Obete AK and Obete, as well as Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, of orchestrating a sustained campaign of persecution against her husband.

According to her, since he was transferred to the Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja in April, he has continued to suffer.

"Ade Adetimehin, the former APC Chairman in Ondo State, Festus Akingbaso, the member representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, together with people they call Obete AK, Obete, and Tunji-Ojo, have been persecuting my husband since April, when he was taken to the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja,” she said.



"Since then, they have continued to torment him."



She further explained that her husband's health deteriorated in custody as a result of the torture he allegedly endured.

"They are the ones financing this persecution,” she said. "They are the ones targeting my husband. They tortured him so severely that his health deteriorated.

"His blood pressure became dangerously high, and he had to be rushed to the hospital."

She appealed to Nigerians, the people of Ondo State, and the international community to intervene.

"I am pleading with all Nigerians; please, help me,” she said. "Please rescue me from these people. My children are still very young. Have mercy on me."

She said despite her husband’s innocence, he has repeatedly been returned to remand custody.

"They should release my husband,” she said. "They are subjecting him to suffering. They have repeatedly taken him back on remand. He is still being kept in remand custody."



Mrs. Akintimehin said she has been left alone since April to care for their young children while her husband remains in detention.



When SaharaReporters contacted Tunji-Ojo for comment, he neither answered his calls nor responded to the text message sent to him.



All efforts to obtain his reaction were unsuccessful.

Nigerian Students Pass Vote of No Confidence in NANS President Over Alleged Partisan Activities



A group of concerned Nigerian students has announced a vote of no confidence in the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Akinteye Babatunde, accusing him of repeatedly compromising the neutrality and integrity of the association through partisan political engagements.




According to the students, the decision followed what they described as several warnings against the NANS President’s repeated actions, which they believe have ridiculed the association and reduced its credibility in the pursuit of political patronage.




The students argued that the office of the NANS President is a national institution established to represent the collective interests of Nigerian students, not a platform for promoting or defending the interests of politicians or political parties.




They maintained that while every student leader is entitled to personal political beliefs and affiliations, occupying the highest office in NANS demands impartiality, responsibility, and a commitment to protecting the interests of all Nigerian students.




“If anyone wants to participate in mainstream politics, that is their constitutional right. However, such a person should resign from the office of NANS President instead of using the platform of Nigerian students to pursue partisan political interests,” the group stated.




The students further alleged that the continued politicisation of NANS weakens the credibility of the association and undermines its historic role as an independent body committed to defending the rights and welfare of Nigerian students, regardless of which political party or government is involved.




They also criticised what they described as attempts to “bastardize” the association for personal political gain, urging the NANS President to stop allowing political patronage to influence the affairs of the organisation.




According to the group, the office of the NANS President should remain independent, fearless, and focused on holding leaders accountable on issues affecting students rather than becoming a tool entangled in partisan political battles.




They concluded by reminding the NANS President that history would judge every occupant of the office by how well they preserved the integrity, independence, and credibility of NANS—not by how passionately they defended any political figure.



The concerned students therefore called on Comrade Akinteye Babatunde to either uphold the non-partisan mandate of the office or relinquish his position if he intends to actively participate in mainstream politics.

Today is not only my birthday, it is also a significant day in the history of our nation. Democracy Day reminds us of the sacrifices made by patriotic Nigerians who fought for democratic governance, justice, freedom, and the right of citizens to freely choose their leaders. It is a day that inspires us to continue building a nation where every young person can dream, aspire, and succeed regardless of background.

Ordinarily, birthdays are moments of celebration. However, this year, my family, friends, and I have chosen to dedicate this special day to prayers for Nigeria and for students affected by insecurity across the country.

In celebration of my birthday, I will be providing support to 100 vulnerable students and internally displaced persons as a modest contribution to improving the lives of those facing difficult circumstances.

At a time when our nation is confronted with security challenges and many students and young people are experiencing hardship, including incidents of kidnapping and displacement, I have chosen to celebrate this day with reflection, compassion, prayers, and a renewed commitment to service.

My thoughts and prayers are with every Nigerian student and family affected by insecurity. I stand in solidarity with all students whose education, safety, and well being have been threatened by these unfortunate developments. As a nation, we must continue to work together to protect our schools, communities, and future leaders.

As we celebrate Democracy Day, I urge Nigerian youths and students to remain active participants in nation building by embracing the values of patriotism, responsibility, unity, tolerance, and democratic engagement. The future of our democracy depends largely on the character, commitment, and contributions of young people.

To Nigerian students at home and in the diaspora, I urge you to remain hopeful, resilient, and committed to excellence. Despite the challenges before us, Nigeria's future remains bright because of the determination, creativity, and strength of its young people.

I also commend the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all stakeholders who are working tirelessly to expand access to education, create opportunities for young people, strengthen democratic institutions, and address the security challenges facing our nation.

As I celebrate another year today, my greatest gift is the opportunity to continue advocating for Nigerian students and contributing my quota to nation building. I dedicate this birthday to the service of Nigerian students and youths, and to the pursuit of a safer, more prosperous, more democratic, and more educated Nigeria.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly cautioned the Minister of Interior, Hon. Reports alleged that ritual items, including a slaughtered goat, intestines, pap, bean cake, and other sacrificial materials packed inside a calabash, were used for spiritual purposes.

A video clip currently making rounds on social media allegedly links Akinboni Kayode, popularly known as “Kayval,” to the incident. Critics described the alleged act as a desperate move that cannot change what God has already destined.

Observers also alleged that money intended for distribution ahead of the election was allegedly taken to a shrine for spiritual backing before being shared among supporters. Many within the progressive family have condemned the development, insisting that leadership should be based on credibility, service, and the will of the people, not fear or manipulation.

Political stakeholders further recalled that a politician allegedly involved in similar acts in the past recently suffered a humiliating electoral defeat, reinforcing the belief that no fetish or demonic plan can override divine will.

Concerns were also raised over the unfortunate events of February 18, which some residents still describe as a dark moment in the community’s political history. Community members and supporters have therefore called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure that such incidents do not repeat themselves in the peaceful town.

In the same vein, members of the progressive family have been advised to exercise caution and avoid collecting money or gifts from suspicious political actors or their associates, stressing that nobody should become a victim of ritual practices in the name of politics.

It is unfortunate that a media platform would publish such damaging accusations without any form of verification or official confirmation.

We also wish to draw public attention to the fact that the image attached to the publication was clearly AI-generated and deliberately manipulated to mislead readers and create a false narrative. The use of fabricated imagery further exposes the desperation and dishonesty behind the entire report.

The call was made on Thursday at Osogbo during a media and peacebuilding workshop organised under the Preach for Peace Initiative, aimed at equipping journalists with the skills needed for responsible and solution-oriented reporting during conflicts.

In his welcome address, the Team Lead of the Peace Building Initiative, Opeyemi Oladimeji, emphasised the critical role journalists play in maintaining peace, especially in conflict-prone areas. He urged participants to be deliberate, balanced, and professional in their reportage.

“We want all the participants present here to be more sensitive in reporting conflicts across the state and beyond,” he said, warning that careless or sensational reporting could escalate tensions rather than promote understanding.

Facilitator Rasheed Adebiyi explained that the training focused on improving how journalists report long-standing communal clashes, particularly those involving Ifon, Ilobu and Erin-Osun.

“We are here to talk to journalists on how to be more sensitive in reporting conflicts. Our analysis has shown that these crises have lingered for years, and the question is when they will be resolved if we continue to report only violence without exploring solutions,” he said.

Adebiyi stressed the importance of solution journalism, urging reporters to go beyond episodic coverage of clashes and highlight peacebuilding efforts within affected communities.

“Journalists should not only report when violence breaks out; they should also examine initiatives that can ensure lasting peace,” he added.

Also speaking, Ridwan Kolawole of the University of Ibadan described the media as a critical partner in peacebuilding, cautioning against sensationalism, ethnic profiling, and inflammatory reporting.

“What we say in the media shapes public opinion, and it can either promote peace or fuel conflict,” he said, adding that global examples have shown how media narratives can worsen crises if not handled responsibly.

The Executive Director of PEACAD Network, Akinremi Olawale, said the workshop was designed to reshape media narratives toward reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.

“Media practitioners are the voices that shape perspectives. We want them to streamline their reports in ways that encourage peaceful engagement, especially in Ifon, Ilobu and Erin-Osun,” he said.

Olawale added that the initiative, supported by the German Federal Foreign Office, had earlier engaged youths and community stakeholders as part of broader efforts to resolve recurring conflicts.

“We have seen that the communities want peace, but what is lacking is a structured process to achieve it. The media have a role to play in championing that process,” he noted.

Providing background to the context of the crisis earlier, Jare Tiamiyu explained how media houses in Osogbo allowed one-sided interviews, sponsored news items, fake news and broadcast unverified reports in days leading to the crisis.

He urged media horses and journalists to take greater responsibility in managing information shared with the generalpublic. .

He urged them to be mindful of how they engage with the media and warned against the spread of misinformation.

“We must put an end to sponsoring people to spread fake news or give misleading reports about incidents. Research shows the crisis started with the media and was escalated in the media for weeks before it degenerated into what it is today” he said, stressing that verified and accurate information is key to preventing further conflict.

A member of the initiative, Koyum Hussain Adekunle, said the programme was inspired by recent communal clashes and the need for sustainable peace.

“Peace is life. Without peace, there can be no development. This initiative is about creating lasting harmony in our communities,” he said.

Participants at the workshop commended the organisers, describing the training as insightful and impactful.

Those apprehended are often taken away to Abuja under questionable circumstances, leaving families distressed and the entire community in fear.

This trend has become both constant and alarming. The people of Idanre are law-abiding citizens who deserve to live without intimidation or harassment. Our deepest fear is that known murderers and their sponsors are the ones manipulating your office and using the name of the Police to intimidate innocent citizens and settle personal scores. This, if true, is a grave abuse of your institution and a direct threat to justice.

There is a growing sentiment among the people that these operations are not only unjust but politically motivated. However, we retain strong confidence in your leadership and integrity. Your decisive approach during the recent incidents of police brutality in Delta State gave our community hope that you stand for justice and accountability. We believe you are not aware of the distress and outcry in Idanre, and that some elements within the Force are acting independently and misusing your name and office to justify these actions.

If any individual or group, particularly politicians, is attempting to use the Nigeria Police Force as a tool to influence or distort the integrity of any electoral process, especially that of the President, such actions must be thoroughly investigated and decisively addressed.

I respectfully call on your office to:

1. Immediately investigate the activities of the AIG in charge of the FID and other units operating in Idanre.
2. Issue clear directives to halt all forms of unlawful arrests and harassment of innocent citizens.
3. Ensure that any ongoing investigations follow due process, transparency, and respect for human rights.
4. Identify and hold accountable any political actors, murderers, or sponsors found to be instigating or sponsoring these operations for selfish gains.
5. Verify all petitions and arrests linked to Idanre to ensure criminals are not using the Police as a weapon against innocent people.

Sir, the peace in Idanre is fragile at this moment. The people are tired of what they perceive as persistent intimidation. It is my duty to warn, in the interest of peace and order, that continued provocation risks eroding public trust and may lead to civil unrest, an outcome we all must strive to avoid.

Hon. Oyewole Aderemi has alleged that he narrowly escaped a suspected kidnapping attempt at his residence in Idanre, describing the incident as a coordinated attack by individuals posing as police officers.




According to a statement made available to journalists, the incident occurred earlier today when about 17 armed men reportedly stormed his residence. The assailants, who allegedly claimed to be operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), arrived in large numbers and began harassing security personnel and members of his household.




Eyewitness accounts indicate that the men fired gunshots at the doors of the residence while attempting to gain entry. Unable to locate Hon. Aderemi, the attackers reportedly turned their attention to his wife, subjecting her to intimidation and harassment. Sources also claimed that the suspects were overheard expressing frustration among themselves over the failed operation.




Preliminary inquiries conducted after the incident have raised doubts about the identity of the attackers. It was gathered that the individuals did not properly register their presence at the Idanre Police Station, as required of official operatives. Further verification through a direct call to the IRT office in Abuja reportedly confirmed that no personnel were deployed to Idanre for any operation, reinforcing suspicions that the attackers were impersonators.




Reacting to the development, Hon. Aderemi called on security agencies to urgently investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. He also used the opportunity to express concerns over his safety, stating that any harm that may come to him should be attributed to his political rivals, stressing that politics should not be treated as a “do-or-die affair.”




He further urged the Commissioner of Police to take immediate action, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation to uncover those behind the attack and prevent future occurrences.



As of the time of filing this report, security authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.

Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Idanre Local Government have endorsed a unified political direction, adopting Fasoranti, Adefisoye, and Aderemi as consensus candidates.

Idanre, Ondo State — Key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Idanre Local Government, alongside members of the Local Government Executive Committee and Ward Executives, have unanimously adopted candidates for the upcoming elections.



The decision was reached today during a well-attended meeting held at the party secretariat in Odode, Idanre.



At the meeting, party leaders endorsed Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti as the APC’s senatorial candidate. Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye, popularly known as Small Alhaji, was adopted as the consensus candidate for the House of Representatives (MHR), while Hon. Aderemi Oyewole, also known as Gulder, emerged as the consensus candidate for the State House of Assembly (MHA).



Prominent leaders present at the meeting included the GAC Chairman, Engr. Lanji Akingbulugbe; the Ondo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Afolabi Adesoji; the Idanre Local Government APC Chairman, Pastor Olutosoye; and the Party Secretary, Lanke Akinde.

The residence was a bungalow-style structure commonly known in Nigeria as a “face-me-I-slap-you” building. Upon unexpectedly entering the room, he encountered Oyetayo Olakotan James together with another male student in what he described as an intimate situation.

“I was completely taken aback by what I saw,” the witness recounted. “It was not something I anticipated. I left immediately and proceeded to report the incident to the school authorities.”

After the report was made, the situation escalated rapidly. The school management initiated efforts to locate the students involved, while information about the incident spread quickly across the campus.

The witness further explained that other students soon became aware of the development. Some individuals raised an alarm, which attracted attention from both members of the student body and residents in the surrounding area.

“As news of the incident circulated, a crowd began to form,” he stated. “Tension rose quickly, with people shouting and confusion spreading throughout the area.”

Additional accounts from other students, whose identities are being withheld, indicate that the gathering soon became disorderly and posed a significant risk. There were increasing concerns that the situation might lead to mob violence, often referred to as jungle justice.

“It was clearly getting out of control,” the witness added. “Emotions were running high, and the situation could have turned dangerous at any moment.”

Following the incident, and out of concern for his safety—both in terms of institutional repercussions and possible reactions from his family—he reportedly fled the residence and did not return home. It is believed that information about the incident had already reached his family members.

Further reports indicate that he sought temporary shelter with a family acquaintance at an undisclosed location. Arrangements were subsequently made to facilitate his departure from the country.

There are unconfirmed reports suggesting that he left Nigeria within the same month as the incident, traveling to an unknown destination at the time this report was compiled.
