THE Osun state commissioner for information and public enlightenment, Hon Kolapo Alimi, has demanded for a Public Retraction and apology from the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under Oyetola, Mr Adebayo Adeleke, BANIK over allegation of N3.7 billion fraud leveled against his humble self.



The Former Governor's aide claimed that Hon. Alimi during his tenure as the State Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under the administration of former Governor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola engaged in corruption.

Alimi responded to the corruption allegation during a Media chat with the Osun Online Publishers Association, OOPA, in his office at Abere, Osogbo on Wednesday, March 12, said, he has never been a signatory to any Local Government accounts during his regime.




Alimi added that Local Government joint account is not under the Commissioner but Director General of Finance.




Voice Air Media recalls that Mr Adebayo Adeleke popularly known as Banik accused Alimi of overseeing suspicious cash withdrawals, including; ₦600 million withdrawn in a single day through multiple ₦10 million transactions, ₦70 million withdrawn in one day by a former ALGON Secretary, who now serves as a Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke, multiple withdrawals allegedly totaling over ₦100 million in one day, with claims that funds were siphoned through different names.

The commissioner for Information, Hon. Alimi, stated; "If ALGON Chairman spent ALGON money how is that my concern. They would hear from my lawyer very soon to explain how money meant for ALGON becomes my problem."




"First and foremost, the allegations against Adeleke by Osun state government sent to the EFCC are true. This is not tit for tat. If they believe there is a case against me, they should file a petition before the EFCC instead of making noise in the media, they should write their own petition If they have anything against me."




Alimi affirmed that if Adeleke and Jamiu Olawumi who spread the lies, failed to retract the statements and tender public apology, he would seek legal redress over the matter to clear his name they are trying to smear in order to divert public attention from the real issue of misappropriation of $20m grant for health that is hanging on their neck.



Alimi further warned that if Banik refused to apologize and retract his "malicious and defamatory statement" he will go to court to claim damages.

Recalled that the State government under Governor Ademola Adeleke through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, alleged that over N1.5 billion was mismanaged by the administration of Oyetola in the local government with some of his aides.




Alimi further alleged that a company owned by Prince Adeleke Adulyekini Adebayo (Banik) who served as Local Government Commissioner under Oyetola, took renovation of primary healthcare centres while the State Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Abiodun Idowu, was also involved in money laundering using one Akeem Ibitoye, the current Director of Finance in Ejigbo Local Government.

THE Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, has called for religious tolerance, urging Muslims and the general public to accept one another despite differences in beliefs and religious understanding.



Speaking at his palace during a food distribution program for people fasting in Ramadan, the monarch stressed that religion should unite rather than divide people.



He condemned the habit of criticizing those who do not share the same religious views, emphasizing that true faith is demonstrated through love and acceptance.



“We must always accept ourselves, no matter how we understand our beliefs and religion,” he said.



“Criticizing those who do not hold the same belief as us only creates division, and that is not what Islam teaches. We all serve the same Almighty Allah, and our focus should be on love, unity, and peace.”

As part of the activities of the Osun Digital Media Week 2024, the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) has announced the commencement of online voting for the Osun Digital Media Award.

On February 23rd, 2023, in a surprising incident involving two young women has unsettled the community of Ile Ife in Osun State, Nigeria. The incident, which took place on Thursday at Gity Royale Suites, has led to the local declaration of the women, identified as Oyedepo Deborah and Olaniyan Folake, as wanted over alleged homosexual activities.


Hotel staff reportedly discovered the women engaged in what was described as “erotic activities,” including kissing and handling, and subsequently notified community elders and the police. These actions, which are considered taboo in Yoruba culture and criminalised under Nigerian law, prompted immediate local and legal action.


The Nigeria Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act 2013 criminalises any form of same-sex marriage, civil union, or public display of affection between persons of the same sex. The law prescribes penalties for involvement in, or witnessing of, such relationships.


In reaction to the incident, Oyedepo Deborah and Olaniyan Folake, both in their mid-20s, have reportedly fled the community to avoid arrest and legal consequences. The situation remains under investigation as authorities continue their search for the women.

"Under their watch, the Sunshine state has become colourless, so much that, in the history of election in the state, this is the first time , members of the ruling party would defect to the opposition party en-masse and on weekly basis too"


Before now, Ondo State enjoyed a very high commendation, as one of the state's in the country, with a standard health delivery system.

Time was when the state won laurels upon laurels, over it's solid and enviable health delivery mechanism.

But as usual of the All Peoples Congress (APC), what used to be a bragging right for the state has now become a source of scorn for the supposedly Sun Shine state, whose light has drastically dimmed, in the hand of it's present driver, Governor Luck Aiyedatiwa.


Indications that the state may have become a victim of a bad administrator emerged with the collapse of the Mother and Child health care program bequeathed to the APC government by the preceding People's Democratic Party.

One of the few legacies of the PDP, which many believed would survive the amateurish and docile government of the APC in the state, was the global standard health facilities,located in Ondo city with complex in Akure, the state capital.

Recent development in the state, especially under the headship of Aiyedatiwa, has however proved that,the situation with the state's health system, as it is with other areas of service may have been bastardized beyond redemption.

A father who just lost his son in the Akure facility of the State's teaching hospital equivalent, has written a strongly worded and emotional petition over the death, indicting the management of the facility and the state over it's poor handling of institutions in the state.

Demanding justice over the death of his son, the father of the 300-level student of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) in his petition, described the mess that has become of what should ordinarily be life saving institutions, but have suddenly become killer institutions, midwife by a trial and error governor.

Taking the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Akure (UNIMEDTH) where his son died, to the cleaners, the father, Prince Bola Adebobola, alleged negligence of a consultant doctor at the Ondo State government owned.hospital , as well as other unimaginable occurrences leading to the death.

In the petition, addressed to the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Dr Adesina Akintan, and copied to the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka and the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Adebobola demanded justice. Registering the gravity of the loss on him, the mourning father expressed his pain and heart brokenness, as he narrated that the consultant assigned to treat his son for malaria didn't show up until the fourth day of his son's admission.

Even when he eventually arrived, the consultant discontinued the treatment being administered on the son by a makeshift personnel who took up his case when the boy's laid in the hospital unattended to, and had some non professionals administered blood on the son at night with their phone touch light when the electricity supply to the hospital went off at night , the solar power panel in the hospital has also run down while there was no diseal available to power the complex Mikano generator and they have to proceed with the blood transfusion on the young man with their phone touch light (Sad).

Adebobola narrated how the consultant in charge of his son demanded on request, that he ( the father ) had to arrange for vehicle to attend to his son. The bereaved father said he had to actually arrange for a Uber driver for the consultant to be conveyed to the hospital, to treat his son.

Added to the ridiculous case of the consultant, was the non functional laboratory gadgets of the hospital and nonavailability of oxygen equipments needed to accelerate the son's recovery as they told the father of the boy that all the oxygen in the hospital has been exhausted and no replacement yet in the hospital as at the time the boy needs it to survive .

As the ailing boy's situation was becoming hopeless, he was moved to Mother and Child hospital on referral, also in Akure where the son got one but after all these , the young man eventually died at the UNIMED hospital facility because of lack of medical attention.

Indications have since emerged, that the case above, is just one out of many of such avoidable deaths, that have occured but were not amplified because the victims have no voice.

It is appalling that with the humongous fund available to the Ondo state government, it could not maintain its health facilities, while insecurity reign supreme, good educational system, transportation, infrastructure are lacking.

Whatever happened to the beautiful city and clean hygienic environment bequeathed to the APC, needless one mention again, that equipping health facilities in the state has never been on the mind of the present APC government in Ondo State.

It is important to mention that whatever mess and neglect, institutions in the state may be experiencing now, it only mirrors the lack of idea and sense of service on the part of the administrators.

Under their watch, the Sunshine state has become so colourless, so much that, in the history of election in the state, this is the first time , members of the ruling party would defect to the opposition party en-masse and on weekly basis too.

The message is clear that the Aiyedatiwa led goverment is a disappointment. That it's valueless and will be shameful on the part of the people , to continue to follow one, who does not know what it takes to represent and serve the people.

Ahead of February, 2025 Osun Local government elections, the State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSEIC) Chairman, Barrister Hashim Abioye, has assured Persons With Disability (PWD) of safety at the council polls.

The commission gave the assurance on Monday during the 5th Media Parley of the Osun Online Publishers Association held in Osogbo, the state capital.

When responding to journalists questions on the preparation of his office for the February,2025 LG Elections Barr. Abioye says “OSSIEC is assuring the stakeholders in Osun State of their determination to conduct free, fair and credible election in February 2025, also noted that the commission has reckoned with the persons with disability (PWD).

"PWDs are part of us at the adhoc level, and we have some committees which they have representation, and there is provisions to take care of them and they will be treated specially for the purpose of the elections"

The OSSIEC Chairman, Abioye, further stated that “electoral commission of today is different from the past. Nobody has interfered with our process and none is interfering in what we are doing at all levels”.

Abioye goes further to buttress his statement:”We have no affiliation with politicians but men and women of integrity and technocrats;we are apolitcal”, he said.

Barr Abioye says that he and his team are committed to supervising the best Local Government Elections in the state because a lot of voters education is on-going while also, he has been carrying along all the stakeholders:police,anti-crime units,the transport unit in the State in order to come out with a transparent processes that we all will be proud of.

According to Barr Abioye the cooperation and efforts of all the Security agents and the electorates in making the electoral process a success is a sine- qua- non.

Abioye said the commission will commence on orientation campaigns in collaboration with the media, NDLEA, and the like,to sensitize the residents at the grassroots to do away with violence during the election period.

The organiser of the Osun Youth Ambassador Award (OYAA), Youth Reformer Initiative, has announced the commencement of nomination process for the annual award.

The Initiative in a statement on Sunday said the nomination process will end on October 30, 2024, while the event comes up in December.

...ICPC is creating a structure platform for monitoring local government finances

The Executive Director of OsunOpenLG, Jare Tiamiyu has described OsunOpenLG initiative as a movement aimed to provide grassroots leadership and community engagement in each local government in the state.

The director stated this during, the first OsunOpenLG stakeholders Town hall meeting, on Monday organized by Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development, at Benbar hall in Osogbo.

While speaking with newsmen, Jare Tiamiyu emphasized that, the most important thing is to have Civic engagement where young people can hold their leaders to account about funding and other accountabilities.

He, also added that,the OsunOpenLG initiative is ready to provide way forward, regarding the recent supreme court judgment, which allows funds to come directly to the LG chairmen.

His words; “We have to hold the LG chairman accountable and that is why Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) are invited, because a good leadership start with credible election”.

“What is important is that we want to have what we call a civic engagement, young people holding their leaders to account,young people has been asking questions about development, about the funding,about their accountability

“At the grassroot, so from there we will be able to have effective leadership at the local government level, then that one will translate into development at the state and at the National level.

“But in recent times, we realized that development has died in the Local government level and then that’s why people call the attention of the state government for duties that are constitutionally under the local government. They call attention of Law makers, when you call the attention of federal Law makers, you’re by extension calling the attention of Federal Government to come and do issues like,bole hole, transformers,like roads and all of that.

” Then we have to hold the Local government Chairman accountable and at this forum we bring the OSSIEC, because good leadership start with credible election,when the election is not good, there’s no way people will have the trust and the confidence in the kind of leadership any manipulative election is going to produce.

“So we’re asking the leadership of OSSIEC, what are they trying to do and we are also bringing in the ICPC on how are we going to be tracking the money. And we have also trained people apart from the 66 advocate that we have trained, the participants here have also been trained about how they, themselves can check the local government funds, evey month and knows what comes to their local government.” He emphasized.

Speaking at the town hall meeting, Comrade Waheed Lawal revealed that there is need for a new constitution in the country.

"The federal government and the national assembly should work on a new constitution for the country, what we are using is the one for the military era

"There must be transparency and accountability at the local government levels, we will need to ask them questions, but in Osun State the Council elections will hold by February, 2025... Then we will engage them to activate grassroots development."

A member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, in his take-home address encourage everyone to participate in the forthcoming LG election and because everyone has a role to play in the development of our local communities.

“This is a very fantastic program and i must commend the organizers once again.
“The take-home is that everyone has a role to play in the development of our local communities and the fact that has been established, for a Nation to develop, it has to be a bottom-up approach and at the bottom in this regard is the Local Government.

“Especially because of the supreme Court judgement that has just allowed more sensation at the local government ,So more youth should get involved not only at the state or federal level, They should get involved in the administrative work in the governance work at the local government. He advised.

In an interview with Newsmen, OSSIEC Chairman,Hashim Abioye who was represented by Pastor Bunmi Obiloye, re-assured that OSSIEC is ready and prepared to give people a free and fair election.

In 1978, Nigeria and other members of the World Health Organisation (WHO) adopted the Alma Ata Declaration which recognised that PHCs are a basic structure and functional unit of public health delivery systems. Since then many countries got grants to develop their PHCs.


Unfortunately, it was alleged that the contracts were awarded to party loyalists who did not deliver to the standards recommended for PHCs in Nigeria.


Minimum standard for PHC

According to the report of the Alma-Ata Conference on primary health care, PHC evolved from experiences with Basic Health Service (BHS) provision and delivery in several settings over the last couple of decades.

However, it says PHC is a lot more than the provision of BHS.
WHO further identified four categories of indicators; namely, health policy, socio-economic factors, health service provision and quality of life indicators.


The Alma-Ata Conference also specified eight minimum health service areas that have since been referred to in many places as the minimum service components of PHC.
These are education on prevailing health problems and how to prevent them (health education); provision of water and basic sanitation (environmental health); adequate food supply and good nutrition (public health nutrition); maternal and child health including family planning (reproductive and family health), and immunisation against the common communicable diseases.


Others are control of common endemic diseases (epidemiology and disease control), treatment of common diseases and injuries (primary medical care), and provision of essential drugs (community pharmacy practice).

NPHCDA recommendation vs Osun PHCs

In Nigeria, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), established in 1992 following a recommendation by the World Health Organisation (WHO), is tasked with ensuring a proper and functional PHC system in the country. Its role includes stipulating infrastructural standards for PHC in Nigeria.

NPHCDA has a clear-cut specification and standard for establishing and constructing PHCs.

According to the agency, a PHC should at first cover a minimum land area of 4,200 square metres and should have a detached building of at least 13 rooms, access to clean water possibly sourced from a motorised borehole, and functional separate male and female toilet facilities.

NPHCDA also noted that a PHC must be connected to the national grid and other regular alternative power sources, have a sanitary waste collection point and a waste disposal site, be clearly signposted – visible from both entry and exit points – be fenced and have a generator and gatehouses. Also, staff accommodation of 2 units of 1-bedroom flats should be provided within the premises.


The agency also recommends that a proper PHC structure comprises a building that has sufficient rooms and space to accommodate; Waiting/Reception areas for Child Welfare, ANC, Health Education and ORT corner, a staff station, 2 consulting rooms, an adolescent health service room, pharmacy and dispensing unit, two delivery rooms, maternity/lying-in section, in-patient ward section, laboratory, medical records area, injection/dressing area, minor procedures room, food demonstration area, kitchen store, among others.


According to the NPHCDA, an ideal PHC should have at least 24 workers on its staff, including a medical officer, four nurses or midwives, three Community Health Extension Workers, a pharmacy technician, an environmental officer, a medical record officer, a laboratory technician, two health attendants/assistants, two security personnel and one general maintenance staff, among others.


NPHCDA’s recommended equipment for PHCs includes consulting cubicle, artery forceps, bedpan, stainless steel, stainless bowls with stand, covered bowl for cotton wool, delivery couch, dissecting forceps, and dressing trolley, among others.


Sadly, all of the PHCs visited in Osun State fell short of these minimum standards.

However, these shortcomings are not peculiar to PHCs in Osun. Their abject conditions reflect the situation across Nigerian PHCs and hinder effective healthcare service delivery across the country.

In 2022, a heart-wrenching incident occurred in Odeyinka, a small community in Ikire, the headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State in south-west Nigeria.

A pregnant woman, Bidemi, was admitted to the Odeyinka Community Health Centre, a primary healthcare centre (PHC). That same day, she delivered a baby boy, but because the centre lacked adequate medical facilities to manage the excessive blood loss she experienced during childbirth, she was referred to another hospital in Ikire town. Still, the family was dissatisfied with the handling of her case in this second hospital.
Her husband decided to take her to their hometown, Cotonou in Benin Republic, for further medical attention. But the woman unfortunately died on their way to Cotonou a week after her delivery. Three days after the woman’s death, her son also died.

Eunice Ogundele, the only health worker in the PHC in Odeyinka, said the report she got indicated that the woman lost a lot of blood and never got well until she died.
She also said the baby became ill and did not recover.

“I was told that the child began to show very serious signs of illness. They took the baby to the hospital but I guess it was too late. The woman’s husband came back to pack their things and left for Cotonou after the child died,” Mrs Ogundele, a health technician.


Osun government speaks

The Osun State Commissioner for Health, Sola Akintola, said the state government led by Governor Ademola Adeleke has embarked on the renovation of the 332 PHCs that were not done well by his predecessor.

He said: “We want to renovate 332 PHCs, and I am happy to inform you that we have started with 50 and Odeyinka you mentioned is one of the 50 and it is at 60 per cent completion now. We are renovating and upgrading the PHCs, we want to dedicate it to be functioning 24 hours.

“At least there must be boreholes and electricity supply 24 hours. So we are giving solar to each of the 332 PHCs and functioning boreholes.”
Mr Akintola said the new administration noticed that apart from the fact that the PHCs have a shortage of personnel, there was also no provision for recruitment of staff for them in the budget inherited.

“So as regards that, the first thing we did was to have budgeting provision for that in the 2024 budget which has been approved. We will also be releasing the 40 per cent fund for the renovation. So before April runs out we are going to start the recruitment process. And we are releasing money for the second phase of the PHC,” the commissioner added.


He said what the previous administration did in the name of renovating the PHCs was just window dressing.
“You see there is a difference between actual renovation of PHCs and political renovation. You know we have to move around to see what they said they did and thank God the Odeyinka you went to is part of the one they claimed to have renovated.

“And what you met at Odeyinka is not different from the other 332 PHCs we are talking about. So what they did was just window dressing. So we want to renovate and upgrade now,” he said.
But contrary to the commissioner’s claim, when this reporter reached out to members of the community in April, they said the facility in Odeyinka was still in bad shape and there was no recent renovation, although some government officials visited the PHC at the end of February.

“No, nothing has been done here, maybe the model, but not at the PHC here. They only came around February ending and since then nothing has been done. In fact, we are currently cutting the grass around the facility and someone has been paid N4,500 to handle the thickly bushy areas within the premises,” a resident said.

Let me take all citizens and residents of the Sunshine state on a very important journey, ahead of the November 16th, 2024 Ondo governorship Election.




Abraham Lincoln said; "Nearly all Men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a Man's character, give him power", by now, the good people of Ondo state can testify to the fact that his Excellency, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, codenamed Odatiwa Odirorun, has a heart of gold, sunshine mindset and a midas touch.



The fact remains that since his days as a former Deputy Governor, till his constitutionally emergence as Governor of the state, from December till now.. There is no form of misrule of democracy, no excessive display of power and no mismanagement of funds.



Mr Governor's positive side far outweigh the negative side of a human-being, a personality who has refused to allow either the accolades or the enormous power that goes along with his governorship position to enter his head. He remains true to himself, treats no one with disdain and stays humble.

It is already a norm for Sanusi Jimoh and other residents of Kelebe Road in Iragbiji Town of Osun State, to be disturbed by odour emanating from dirt dumped on the road around the area.

On a Monday morning in June, Jimoh woke up again to this misfortune, a woman had just tossed another bag of trash beside the road.

Curious, he took some bold steps, cease his breath and moved towards the bag, he would later discovered a dead pig among the refuse.

Subsequently, the stench quickly permeated the area, creating an unbearable and hazardous environment for residents.

“We have been struggling with the illegal dumping of refuse beside the roads,” Jimoh recounted. This issue affects our daily lives, creating unsanitary conditions and posing health risks. Despite our repeated efforts to address this problem, people continue to dump waste here.”

“We need the government to intervene by installing signboards and enforcing penalties against violators. Only then can we hope to maintain a clean and safe environment for our community.”

Kelebe is just one of a few communities in Osun, which livelihood has been jeopadised by poor enivironmental hyigen caused by improper waste disposal.

Outbreak Of Cholera

According to a report released in July by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), the deadly outbreak of Cholera in Nigeria has killed no fewer than 156 people and over 4,809 people infected with the virus across 187 local government areas (LGAS) in 35 states, within seven months from the beginning of 2024.

The agency added that the figure indicated an increase in the number of cases recorded in the same period in 2023 ( 2,740).

Also, the number of deaths in 2024 (156), representing a CRF of 3.2 per cent, shows an increase in the number recorded for that same period in 2023 ( 83) which accounted for 3.0 per cent.

About 90 per cent of the cases were recorded in 10 states of the federation, with seven of them in the southern region.

Of the top 10 states, Lagos, Bayelsa, Abia, Zamfara, Bauchi, Katsina, Cross River, Ebonyi, Rivers and Delta contribute about 90 per cent of the cases, seven of them are southern states.

Nigerianinfopedia's report has also highlighted Osun State as sixth dirtiest states in the country; the research gathered that Osun state ranked sixth most dirty state in Nigeria, according to data gotten from clean-up Nigeria and the United nations Environmental program (UNEP).

Refuse Repercussions On Health and Environmental Impact

In recent times, Nigeria has suffered a growing waste management crisis, with the Nigerian Environmental Society reporting that the country generates approximately 32 million tons of waste annually.

Ilegal waste dumping is not just a local problem but a global one. Studies have shown that improper waste disposal can lead to severe environmental and health issues, including water contamination, air pollution, and the spread of diseases.

It poses severe health risks and environmental hazards. Decomposing waste attracts pests such as rats, flies, and mosquitoes, which are vectors for diseases like malaria, dengue fever, and leptospirosis.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated improper waste management in Nigeria contributes to 20% of the nation's health burden, particularly in urban areas where the accumulation of waste fosters the breeding of disease-carrying vectors like mosquitoes and rodents.

The economic impacts are also profound. It diminished property values, loss of business opportunities, and heightened healthcare costs.

Addressing this issue requires a multifaceted approach, including enhanced regulatory frameworks, improving waste management systems, and community engagement to promote sustainable waste disposal practices. The Osun State government has recently warned against maintaining dirty environments.

Despite Voluntary Efforts, Illegal Dumping Persist

The waste discarded along the roadsides not only creates an unsightly environment but also poses significant health risks by becoming a breeding ground for diseases. Residents’ voluntary acts of mitigating the illegal dumping have come to nothing, as perpetrators persistently kept dumping the waste.

Ayinde Adebimpe, the chairman of Odo Omu Iragbiji Zone 13, has been at the forefront of the battle against the illegal roadside dumping that led to blockage of the drainage in the area, and water now flowing on the road, especially during this raining season.

As the leader of his zone, Adebimpe receives numerous complaints from residents who are frustrated and concerned about the refuse problem.

In response, Adebimpe has organized several community clean-up efforts and spent personal funds to remove the trash.

Despite these efforts, the problem remained persistent. “As the chairman of Zone 13, I have received numerous complaints from residents about the refuse problem and how it is affecting their health.

“People dump waste by the roadside, creating an eyesore and a breeding ground for diseases. We have organized several community clean-ups and even spent our own money to remove the trash, but the problem persists,” he told the VOICE AIR MEDIA.

For Mohammed Akinloye, a hotel worker and businessman, the issue of illegal dumping goes beyond aesthetics and health; it also poses serious safety hazards.

Akinloye's concerns are particularly acute at sharp corners where illegally dumped waste can lead to accidents. And despite repeated warnings and pleas to the community, the dumping continues unabated.

In his words, Akinloye said “The refuse dumping problem is particularly concerning at sharp corners, where it can also cause accidents. There was a time, the waste was dumped on both sides of the road. We have told people many times not to drop refuse there, but they do not listen.”

Another resident, Popoola Muhideen, has been vocal about his frustrations with the ongoing issue of roadside dumping. As an active community member, he has seen firsthand how unhealthy practice affects both the environment and public health.

With repeated requests for people to stop dumping waste by the roadside, the problem persists, leaving Muhideen and others feeling disheartened and defeated.

“The ongoing issue of roadside dumping is not only unsightly but also harmful to our health and the environment. We have repeatedly asked people not to dump their waste here, but they ignore us. It is frustrating to see our efforts go to waste,” Muhideen lamented.

Highlighted by Ayo Ade Ibiribigbe, a local businessman. The economic repercussions of illegal dumping are significant; citing that the condition of the roads is already in poor shape, as exacerbated by the illegal dumping of refuse.

Ibiribigbe recounted a disturbing incident involving a dead pig that created an unbearable stench and further degraded the area. “It affected us greatly, and we often have to stay outside to monitor the area," he said.

The situation has forced residents and business owners to spend their own money on clean-up efforts, yet the dumping continues.

Calls for Government Intervention

Residents are unanimous in their call for government intervention to address the persistent problem of illegal roadside dumping.

They believe that the installation of signboards and the enforcement of strict penalties for violators are crucial steps that can mitigate the issue.

“The government must step in to provide proper waste disposal facilities and enforce strict penalties for those who violate waste management rules.

“A signboard indicating 'No Dumping of Refuse Here' would be a good start,” Adebimpe, the chairman of Odo Omu Iragbiji Zone 13, implored.

Also, Akinloye suggested that the government should help by putting up a signboard and allowing them to report violations to the authorities. “This way, we can call security officers to handle those who disregard the rules,” he said.

Similarly, Muhideen added, "We need the government to take this issue seriously and implement measures to prevent illegal dumping.” Adding “Sign Boards and fines” for offenders could help deter the behavior.

Ayoade Ibiribigbe, the local businessman, stressed the need for government action to protect the community, through providing signboards and enforcing strict penalties for illegal dumping to protect their community.

OSUN: Family Planning Stakeholders have called for adequate data for national planning and development.




They made the call in Osogbo, Osun state capital, during a media roundtable to commemorate the 2024 World Population Day on Tuesday.




The programme was organised by The Challenge Initiatives Nigeria (TCI) a Non-governmental organisation in collaboration with Development Communications Network (DEVCOMS), also a Non-governmental organisation.




In her remarks, Dr Adebusola Oyeyemi, TCI State Manager, said accurate statistics would assist government to plan for her citizens.


"Without adequate and accurate data, it might be difficult for government to plan adequately for her citizens."



Represented by Mr Daniel Oluwafunso, TCI Demand Generation State Technical Lead, Oyeyemi said steps taken so far by the TCI since 2022 was to improve to improve health indices.




She said that TCI assisted in demand generation, research monitoring and advocacy.




Oyeyemi explained that TCI programme include expression of interest, programme design, implementation and graduation.

The programme which saw some pupils and students in Akure, Ondo State capital and some others from St. Stephen's African Church Primary School, Oke Ijebu in Idanre from poor families getting scholarships that entailed payment of their school fees for the term while hundreds of the pupils in the schools picked were also given customized exercise books and other school related stationeries.

In her response, Mrs Aboyewa D. S., Headmistress of St. Stephen's African Church Primary School, Idanre lauded the donor, Mr. Bright Olorungbotemi, for helping to enhance the quality of education and help the poor ones despite not even being an old student of the school. She enjoined the old pupils of the school to help in complementing the efforts of government, staff and parents of the school in providing qualitative education for the pupils.

While speaking with Idanre Media Services, Mr. Bright Olorungbotemi, who let the programme coincided with his birthday, revealed that he had embarked on the programme as a way of giving back to the society and meant to support all stakeholders in the education sector and help needy pupils from poor homes to be educated. On June 15th, 2024, the SSA on Student Engagement to President Bola Tinubu, has visited Saint Academy Jos, the site of the recent tragic school building collapse, and met with the Chief Medical Directors of Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos, Bingham University Teaching Hospital, and Our Lady of Apostles Hospital (OLA Hospital) to assess the condition of the surviving students.



He also had a meeting with the Plateau State Commissioner for Secondary Education to discuss the incident and the way forward. His heart goes out to the families of the deceased students, and he prays that God grants them eternal rest and comfort in this difficult time.

Osun Police has arrested notorious cultist and alleged serial killer, Bode Owoeye, also known as Bode Itaapa, for conspiracy, armed robbery, unlawful possession of prohibited firearms and murder.

Owoeye, 32, was declared wanted by the police command for involvement in Aiye Confraternity, which has been outlawed in the state.

Announcing Owoeye’s arrest during a suspect parade in Osogbo on Friday, the Osun Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, revealed that his arrest in Ilesa came about as a result of credible intelligence at the disposal of the command.

Opalola also disclosed that Owoeye confessed during interrogation to being a notorious political thug whose group was engaged in the services of Sanya Omirin, the Peoples Democratic Party’s House of Representatives member for Ijesa South Federal Constituency.

According to the police spokesperson: “On 9th February, 2024, at about 6:20 pm, complainants reported at Iperindo Police Station that, on 8th February, 2024, their children Kelechi Agha and Tega Robinson left homes to their mining sites and they did not return before the case was transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for discreet investigation.

“Credible intelligence revealed that members of the Aye Confraternity were sighted freely moving around with dangerous weapons on that day, which led the detectives to search the hideouts of the cultists, where one Beretta pistol and a black mask were found and registered as exhibits.

“Subsequently, the detectives on the rescue mission later apprehended one Bode Owoeye, aka “Bode Itaapa,” who was identified as a member of Aye Confraternity and who was on the wanted list of Osun State.

“During the interrogation, he confessed that other members of Aye confraternity were responsible for the abduction and killing of the victims inside the bush.

“He also admitted that his group was the political thugs working for one Honourable Sanya Omirin, who usually gives them instructions through another wanted cultist, Adefioye Solomon, aka Solo Iwara, who is responsible for so many killings within the Ilesha axis.

“Also, he confessed that they attacked one Honourable Ayodeji Olaolu, the APC candidate, during the election into the House of Representatives in 2023, at the party secretariat and shot him in his head and chest.

“He further revealed that the confraternity had over 30 pump action rifles, which were mostly procured before the 2023 election.

“Subsequently, the detectives arrested one Samuel David, who was mentioned to be a member of Aye Confraternity and involved in the killing of one Ibrahin Taiwo, aka Omo-Alhaja.

“During the investigations, the suspect mentioned his five fellow hitmen under Kehinde Itaapa, who stormed the venue of the PDP rally on 21/02/2023 and killed the deceased. In the course of the investigation, one of the complainants came to report that, she was the mother of late Taiwo Adebiyi, aka “Omo-Alhaja,” and alleged one Shittu Lekan, aka “Araba” to be the killer of her son.

“Samuel David later took the detectives to Oke-Eta village, where he kept one pump action gun, given to him by Bode Owoeye to perpetrate the crime and it was recovered as an exhibit. Olabode Owoeye stated further that he bought the gun from Mukaila Lateef, his arms dealer, who illegally sold some guns to him.”

Arrested with Owoeye were Mukaila Lateef, 45, and David Samuel, 26.

Exhibits recovered by the police from the gang include one blue-coloured unregistered TVS motorcycle, one locally made Beretta pistol with three live cartridges, one single barrel gun and one pump action.

Others are one black unregulated Highlander Jeep, one black facemask, some charms and two cross bags.

Opalola said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing members and the suspects will be charged in court upon the completion of the investigation.

The Chairman of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye Esq., has declared the intention of the Commission under his leadership to issue regulations for eligibility to contest local council elections as well as the Commission's readiness to appoint Electoral Officers, Assistant Electoral Officers and other staff of the Commission ahead of Osun local council elections scheduled for February, 2025.

In a statement signed by Yemi Badru, Press Secretary to OSSIEC Chairman, Hashim Abioye hinted that in line with the timetable/schedule of activities towards the conduct of Osun local council elections earlier released in February this year, the time for political parties to conduct their primaries is around the corner, hence, the need to issue eligibility regulations to guide participating political parties in fielding qualified candidates for the elections, as any unqualified candidate fielded by any political party will not find his/her way to the ballots as the Screening Committee of the Commission will be readily on ground to address any eligibility issue.

In the exact words of the Chairman, he maintained that "having earlier given notice of Osun local council election in line with the dictate of the law, and having issued timetable/schedule of activities for the conduct of local council elections in Osun State, the time is ripe to issue regulations so as to guide participating political parties in the choice of candidates for the election.

"This is within the jurisdictional compass of the Commission. As we all know, there are three categories of politicians who may wish to contest on the platforms of their respective political parties.

"We have private citizens, government employees and government appointees. While the constitution stipulates 30 days before the election for an employee in the service of any tier of government willing to contest an election to resign his/her employment, a political appointee at any level doesn't enjoy such a latitude as he/she must resign within the time as may be stipulated by the electoral body. This does not concern a private individual who is not a government employee or appointee.

"Other regulatory issues and eligibility criteria include schedule of fees for nomination forms, change/substitution of candidates, campaign modalities, meetings, etc. All these will be contained in the regulations that will be issued so soon".

In the same vein, appointment of Electoral Officers, Assistant Electoral Officers and other staff of the Commission will be announced within the next few days.

As disclosed by the Chairman, "appointment of Electoral Officers for the local council areas is sacrosanct. They will be the eyes, ears and body of the Commission in implementing the programs and activities of the Commission in each of the local council areas".

The Chairman further assured that as earlier promised, the forthcoming Osun local council elections will be a giant leap forward in the history of local government elections in Osun State, as he reiterated his commitment to conducting the freest, fairest, most transparent and most credible local government elections ever in the history of Osun State.

Kelebe-Omu Landowners Association has called the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja to call men of the Nigerian Army in Osun state to order over a protracted land dispute between the association and the Nigerian Army which has taken a new turn despite two different court injunctions affirming the association’s ownership of the contested land.

While speaking with newsmen on Monday, the secretary of the association, Folorunsho Sulaimon, expressed concern over the alleged continuous harassment and intimidation by the Nigerian Army, reiterating that the association holds the warrant of possession and the state of execution underscoring their legal right to the land.

Sulaimon added that the persistent actions of the army were not only in contempt of the court ruling but also a source of undue stress and fear among their members, calling on the authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure that justice prevails.

In his reaction, the spokesperson for the Kelebe-Omu Land Owners Association, Alhaji Hamed Loroki, called on both the federal and state governments to step in and mediate the issue. He stressed the importance of government intervention in maintaining peace and harmony in Osun State.

Loroki added that the alleged interference of the army on the land dispute was threatening the peaceful coexistence in Osun State, appealing to the government to enforce the court’s decision and put an end to the intimidation faced by their members.

Meanwhile, Chief Amodu Akanbi, the Oluponna of Osogboland and Chairman of the Kelebe-Omu Land Owners Association, has urged the Chief of Army Staff to intervene and find a lasting resolution to the ongoing conflict.

Akanbi stressed the need for a peaceful settlement to avoid further tensions in the area, saying, “The Kelebe-Omu Land Owners Association remains resolute in defending their rights as the legally recognise owners of the land, as confirmed by the 2023 court injunction.

“The association will continue to advocate for a peaceful resolution through dialogue and legal means, hoping for swift action from the relevant authorities to prevent further escalation.”

Ahead of the forthcoming November 16th, 2014 governorship election in Ondo State, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) is facing significant internal turmoil over the setting up of the Campaign Council, Voice Air Media reports.

The announcement by one Samuel Ogunmusi appointing persons to coordinate the Campaigns of H.E Agboola Ajayi for the November Election is not only embarrassing but a violation of the PDP Constitution (2017 as Amended).

Articles 46(1) and 40(1)(a)(b) and (c) does not permit of such announcement coming from individuals not known to the party. To such an extent, all the supposed announcements are null, void and of no effect.

There was panic in a part of Osogbo, Osun State capital on Monday when soldiers stormed a gathering of the Kelebe-Omu Landowners Association.

In the ensuing mayhem, one of the drivers of the caterpillar employed by the landowners and a Mobile phone of a member of the landowners association was whisked away by the soldiers.

Voice Air Media correspondent who witnessed the incident narrated that the landowners had gathered to enforce the judgement of an Osun State High Court sitting in Ile-Ife.

Recall that Justice A. O. Ayoola had on January 10, 2023, affirmed that the association members were the rightful owners of the land in dispute.

Without an appeal from the Nigerian Army, the court also gave the association the go-ahead to possess the land through a warrant of possession.

The Chairman of the Association, Chief Amodu Akanbi reacting to the development revealed that member of the association has been abducted , also a Mobile phone of one of them was snatched by one of the Soldiers and taken to the Nigerian Army Engineering Construction Command, Ede, Osun State.

Amodu called on President Bola Tinubu, Governor Ademola Adeleke and Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja to intervene to avoid bloodshed and unnecessary tension.

He said, “After the judgment, we discovered that the Nigerian Army was selling plots on the property. We approached the court with the evidence and it was tendered as exhibits in contempt of court.

“We came here again to enforce the court judgment and the soldiers attacked us. Two of our members have been abducted and taken away. Phones have been seized and several of our properties confiscated.

“We want Nigerians, President Bola Tinubu and Governor Ademola Adeleke to intervene and make the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja see the reason why violence should be avoided. Osun State is known for peace and peace is what we want.”

The landowners had in a protest early in the year asked the Osun State House of Assembly to intervene in the matter.

THE Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC has announced the postponement of the local government election indefinitely.

ODIEC Chairman, Dr Joseph Aremo disclosed this at a meeting with stakeholders held at the commission’s headquarters in Akure.

Dr Aremo hinged the postponement on the non compliance of political parties with rules and regulations of the conduct of the election.

ODIEC Chairman while lamenting that no political party submitted any candidate’s name said the commission would review it’s activities and a new date will be communicated in due course.

Reacting to the development, Chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Prince Olaoluwa Adesanya said political parties deliberately boycotted the process due to the refusal of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to meet with the IPAC leadership ahead of the local government election.

Prince Adesanya noted that the state governor had refused to meet with IPAC despite several letter written to him.

The Council vowed not to participate in the conduct of the election until after meeting with the governor to ascertain the level of readiness of the state government for the conduct of the council poll.

In another reaction, ODIEC Chairman, Dr Joseph Aremo described the action of IPAC as sabotaging the efforts of the commission in the conduct of the local government election.
