Milan to open Nigeria academy

Italian Serie A giants AC Milan, Italy are to establish a youth programme in Africa with Nigeria and Cameroon the two destinations selected for the programme.

The Nigeria academy, which is being organised in conjunction with the Nigeria Premier League, is expected to be set up this year, while Cameroon will not start until 2011.

To kick-start the project, a five day camp will be held by officials of the Serie A club in Abuja for boys between the ages of 11 and 17 by AC Milan certified coaches coming from Milan.

NFF Executive Secretary Al Hassan Yakmut told KickOffNigeria.com that the decision is a massive step in providing a direction for football development in the country

"This is a massive project which will help us achieve at least three key elements of the Millennium Development Goals, and deserves the support of everyone" he said.

Yakmut went on to explain how the camp operates.

"The AC Milan Junior camps are official talent scouting activities organized in an entertaining and methodical manner.

"Each child taking part will receive an official AC Milan Junior camp Adidas kit and Milan Junior Camp Diploma at the end of the camp.

"The camp’s curriculum has been designed for each age group by AC Milan’s Milan Lab and doctors."

AC Milan has its Milan Junior Camps (MJC) in 40 countries in five continents, and since 2005, over 30,000 children have participated in Milan Junior Camps worldwide.

Nigeria get FIFA ban warning

FIFA have again asked the Nigeria Football Federation to take action over the current litigation against the NPL and NFF by Sam Sam Jaja, or risk sanction from the world football governing body.

Sam Jaja, a former NFA board member, has taken the football authorities to a civil court following his disqualification from contesting the elections into the board of the Nigeria Premier League.

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday put off hearing in Jaja’s case till Monday, but over the weekend, FIFA wrote to the NFF directing that action be taken.

In early April, FIFA sent in a letter to the Nigeria Football Federation, harping on its article 64, par. 2, which states that any recourse to ordinary courts of law is prohibited.

The world football ruling body has again reiterated this fact, and warned at the weekend that “FIFA member associations must ensure that their own members comply with the Statutes (art. 13, par. 1 (d) of the FIFA Statutes). As a consequence, we request the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ask for an immediate withdrawal of the claim and, in case of non compliance by the claimant, to take sanction against him.

“We remind you that if the NFF does not comply, FIFA could have to act according to art. 13 par. 2 of the FIFA Statutes which states that violation of obligations by any member may lead to sanctions.”

NFF Chief Media Officer Ademola Olajire stated that such a sanction would be in the form of a ban on Nigeria, which would mean the country would be kicked out of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

"An axe is presently dangling over that participation as FIFA is uncomfortable with the continued litigation over the NPL elections, as Jaja continues his fight in ordinary court of law on Monday.

"Here, it is clear that one man’s ambition is threatening the country’s World Cup participation, as FIFA’s sanction is usually in form of suspension of Member Association," Olajire said.

Alpha Bah plundered a brace in the second half of extra-time as Senegal took full advantage of Richard Anang's dismissal to claim a shock 3-1 victory over Ghana in the semfinal of the WAFU Cup on Friday.

The Black Stars were the runaway favourites coming into the game, but went behind on 28 minutes when Mane Asiane put Senegal in front. Parity was restored three minutes after the interval through Idan Bismarck and neither side could find any further goals in regulation time.

The story remained the same in the first half of extra time, until Anang got himself sent off in the second period.

Senegal gratefully accepted the gift of an extra man to punish the tired Ghana team with Bah claiming his first in the 113th and a second four minutes later.

Senegal will now play Nigeria in Sunday's Final, while Ghana play Burkina Faso in the Losers Final on the same day.

Musa shoots Nigeria to WAFU Final

League top scorer Ahmed Musa's goal deep into extra-time shot Nigeria's Super Eagles B into the Final of the WAFU Cup tournament in Abeokuta.

Having scored 11 goals prior to this game, the Nigerians were widely expected to run roughshod over the team which lost 4-0 to Ghana in their final group game two days earlier, but the Burkinabes were in no mood to give out any more presents and pushed the Nigerians hard.

Regulation time finished with neither side able to find the net, and the game went into extra-time.

The first half of extra time was as cagey as the preceding 90 minutes and it took a swift and decisive counter attack launched by defender Ike ThankGod to swing the game.

The Burkinabes won a free-kick just outside the Nigeria area, and as the well struck effort came off the Nigeria cross bar, Heartland defender Ike picked up the ball and loped into the opposition half.

Musa kept pace with him and as the defender swept the ball into his path, the Kano Pillars man rifled in a daisy-cutter from 20-yards that skimmed its way across the goalkeepers and into his left post.

Nigeria moved through to the final, while Burkina Faso awaits the losers of the second semifinal between Ghana and Senegal. That game was originally due to be played before the Nigeria game, but had to be moved as the South African Under -17 team women's team trained on the pitch for their allotted hour before tomorrow's World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

'Govt withdraws N350m 3SC grant

Shooting Stars Sports Club have been plunged into serious financial crisis after the Oyo State government questioned the management's expenses and then withdrew a grant of N350 million earlier approved for the club.

The Ibadan club have been struggling underthe weight of massive fan expectations, but have struggled to get the finance required to match those expectations.

Shooting have been on a monthly grant of N16.8 million from the Oyo State government, and this month, General Manager Mutiu Adepoju had a request of N350 million approved.

Club sources told KickOffNigeria.com that the huge sum was meant to pay outstanding wages, bonuses and sign-on fees.

But soon after signing that approval, the state government, through the office of the Sports Commissioner did an about-turn and queried the club's previous expenses, saying they are way too high.

In the interim, release of the grant was held back.

This has stalled the club's attempt to hire a new coach, with Adepoju having taken charge of coaching duties since Philip Boamah was fired last December.

Players are also being owed entitlements, including unpaid sign-on fees, and the team's performance has suffered as a result, with 3SC lying 16th, just one place and one point above the relegation zone.

Lagerback to send in squad list

Lars Lagerback is expected to send in his provisional squad list of 45 to the Nigeria Football Federation this weekend, according to NFF Media Officer Ademola Olajire.

The Swede announced at his first press conference that he had drawn up a list of 45 players ahead of next month’s World cup camping, but the composition of the list has so far been tightly guarded.

However, Olajire told KickOffNigeria.com that the NFF’s Technical Committee expects to receive it by this weekend.

“Lagerback has informed us that he would be sending in the list by this weekend.

“At this time, we don’t know who is in it, but as soon as he sends it to the technical committee, they and the coach will decide when it will be made public.”

With just two months to the kick-off of the 2010 World Cup, President General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club Rafiu Ladipo has again stated that the official Nigeria Football Supporters Club would discourage Nigerians from buying or using the vuvuzelas during games involving the Super Eagles.

The instruments have been the subject of divisive opinion ahead of the World Cup and Ladipo described them as ‘alien’ and ‘noisy’.

”It is alien to our style and we will not go there with one or buy any in South Africa. We have a traditional way of supporting our team and FIFA has praised our style.

“Many teams have cried against the use of the instrument in football because of the deafening noise and we are not going to encourage it in Nigerian football.”

There is growing belief that with the World Cup staged on African soil for the first time, an African team can win it, Ladipo doubts the ability of the current Super Eagles team, and says only extra support can push the team far.

“We don‘t have the team that boasts of the quality that we had in 1994, therefore, the national team of today needs extra inspiration and that is what we want to offer.”

Ghana on course for Nigeria meeting

Ghana crushed Burkina Faso 4-0 on Wednesday to stay on course for a much anticipated meeting with rivals Nigeria in the Final of the WAFU Cup tournament in Abeokuta.

A brace from Ansah Owusu Edward and further goals from Idan Bismarck and Kpodo Edward helped the local Black Stars to a handsome win and a place in the semi-final of the tournament as group winners.

Topping the group means that the two powerhouses avoid each other in the semi-finals.
In the other group game, Liberia beat Togo 3-2, but both sides were eliminated.

Ghana will meet Senegal in the first semi-final which kicks off at 15h00 on Friday, while Nigeria take on Burkina Faso two hours later.

Both games will be played at Abeokuta.

Local lads can match foreign stars

Daniel Amokachi believes that the players in his local Super Eagles team can compete favourably with their colleagues from the European leagues.

Amokachi's wards failed to score over two legs against Niger, suffering elimination from next year's African Nations Championship, and casting doubt over their ability to break into the A squad.

But they have since managed to score nine goals in two games at the WAFU Cup tournament, and the usually reclusive coach says the boys can do the business if given the opportunity.

"The football that we see them play at home is the same even when they go to Europe. But they have to start from somewhere first," Amokachi said.

"We have seen what the players have done over the last four games and believe me, they will give a scare to some of the regular players."

Those words are bound to ignite hope in the home-based players, but Amokachi insists that it is up to Technical Adviser Lars Lagerback to decide if he wants to pick local players, and adds that they would have to seize the opportunity if given.

"I am not the chief coach, that is Lagerback.

"It is just for these players to be given a chance and for the player selected to do what the chief coach wants."

"We spoke to him this week and he said he has not made up his mind yet, but that he would certainly not be available for the World Cup for Nigeria," Peterside told KickOffNigeria.com.

"I was mandated by the NFF to speak to him, and the coach also said he would also speak to him, but he had included his name in the preliminary squad of 45 before then.

"I called him up and we spoke a bit. He told me that Lagerback had already called him, but that he hadn’t made up his mind yet what he wanted to do. So he won’t be available for Nigeria at the World Cup.

"Lagerback had to remove his name from the list, which is going to the NFF this weekend."

Peterside added that that list would be made public by the beginning of next week.

"They will receive it this weekend, and release it by this weekend, or early next week at most."

'Awol' Amodu faces NFF action

Former Super Eagles coach Shuaibu Amodu will face disciplinary action from the NFF after failing to report for duty at the end of his compassionate leave.

Amodu, who was reassigned to the Super Eagles B team, asked for, and received permission to proceed on compassionate leave in late February, but has yet to report for duty since then and NFF President Sani Lulu Abdullahi said on Wednesday that the Secretariat would deal with the situation.

"He was due to have resumed work at the expiration of his leave, but he has not reported for duty," Lulu said.

Lulu however declined to go into details of what action will be taken against the coach.

"It is an administrative issue, and there are clear procedures to be followed. The secretariat is handling it and I believe they know the right thing to do."

NFF Media Officer Ademola Olajire added that Amodu was expected to resume duties just before the WAFU Cup competition.

"He was expected to resume and report to James Peters, and most likely would have been directed to oversee the competition from the stands and provide a full technical report to the Technical Department."

My dad was always stressing about security, "lock the front door when u're at the back of the house, back door when u're in front and both doors when u're inside"
naturally we will play  so hard through the day that we will end up sleeping so deep.
so one day after our intense play, our parents had gone for "Evening Service" in church, we were watching TV in the living room, doors and windows all locked and we slept off, this time We slept like dead people,
our parents got back and started knocking and calling our names from outside, we were just toooo asleep.
By this time, the knocking and calling had woken up the neighbours ,my father was embarassed  as they were coming out to ask one or two questions.
The anger made my father to nicely remove the louvers  , helped himself through the window, got in to open the door for my mum, went inside changed his cloths 
for the battle that is about to begin, got his belt for the flogging, all this process, we were still sleeping.
Next thing i heard in my dream was "whai whai whai yah, yah, ", the weeping started from my elders ones  , come see mass-beating, running from one point to the other    , my papa no gree o
